2021 - Are there any stable ROMs for the Tab S3? - Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 Questions & Answers

If I read the right page, LineageOS never officially supported the Tab S3 and there don't seem to be any other official ROMs judging by this thread. Are there any stable and/or well maintained Android 10 or 11 ROMs for the SM-T820 worth abandoning the dated but stable stock ROM?

I tried a few - no real use.
back to stock.
after setting everything up from scratch, meaning no userdata or such, it felt a LOT faster than before.

What helped me a lot was removing all google play services (with link2sd, I just uninstalled everything with root) and switching to vanced youtube (so I still get to watch yt).
For google drive and such I can use the browser versions and now without a trace of google the tablet is a lot faster. I'm sure that properly set up microg wouldn't affect performance at all but I don't have the time to reset again. If I manage to do it some day I'll post a tutorial, and in the mean time someone else can try this method.

Giving my Google passwords to a 3rd party app doesn't feel good to me. I switched instead to watching YouTube on Firefox some time ago, with the ad blocker plugins. The only downside is that on mobile, after a video ends and the next loads, the video goes out of full screen.
As to removing bloatware, can the device be rooted without causing issues with Samsung's stock interface?

I noticed there's an official Pie release. Unfortunately, I don't think I qualify for normal OTA upgrade as I have a Wifi only tablet and no carrier. Also, this is a demo tablet not intended for sale, so additional lockouts might apply there.
Does anyone know if the official Pie upgrade should work with the demo model, and have any experience with the Android 9 firmware from Samsung?
At the moment I'm away from my PC so I can't flash isn't Odin. I'm kinda itching to get the upgrade on my tablet and wondering if there's a way to reliably flash without even a PC to root my tablet.

Eventually, I figured out how to flash a Wifi-only SM-T820 LDU (live demo model) from Android 7.0 to the last Android 9 firmware Samsung released for the model. A good upgrade and very stable.

Does snapchat not work on the Galaxy Tab 10.1 WiFi (GT-P7510)?

Ya I know, this may seem like a stupid question, but believe me I have valid reasons for asking it. So I have a Galaxy Tab 10.1 WiFi (GT-P7510) that had been sitting around not being used for quite some time. I decided to recently take it out and root it to run the snapprefs xposed module alongside snapchat. Well, first things first, the tablet was running Android 3.0 Honeycomb which is way out of date. I upgraded to the last update available for this tablet which was Android 4.0.4 ICS. through standard system update. I then rooted using CWM recovery and flashing over superuser. All worked well and the tablet was rooted. I installed the latest version of snapchat from the play store and attempted to login with ABSOLUTELY 100% VALID credentials. It went through the processes "logging in, verifying device, etc." and then crashed to the home screen. I tried uninstalling, reinstalling, signing up for new accounts, switching google accounts on the device, creating new google accounts, making sure google accounts were syncing correctly, making sure time and date was correct, downgrading snapchat to older versions, EVERYTHING. Absolutely nothing worked. The funny thing is that when initially opening snapchat, it would have the main screen where you see your camera open and have snap/stories notifications, etc. Then it would finish loading and go to the login/signup screen (since no account was logged in). That was when the problems would occur. I'm even able to sign up for new snapchat accounts which would go through just fine (I would receive the email notification from team snapchat), but when it was time to go to the main snapchat screen it would crash the same way as when logging in. At this point I was convinced that snapchat simply had issues running on 4.0.4 or something. I decided to flash a custom ROM to solve this. The first ROM I flashed was Nameless 4.4.4 .. Again, EXACT same issues. I was like wtf?? I then flashed Omni 4.4.4 and yep, same exact issue. I then tried CM 10.1 (4.2.2) and again, same issues. I went back to completely stock ICS 4.0.4 using Odin and ya, same issues as the first time. I really don't understand at this point. I thought it could be snapchat account issues so I tried logging in and logging out with all accounts that I attempted on the tablet using my Galaxy S6 Active which worked completely fine, so it's definitely something with the device. I'm someone that can typically figure out things for myself through researching, but at this point I'm really stuck, and I had to join this forum for assistance. If anyone would be able to help, I would GREATLY appreciate it. Does anyone have a Galaxy Tab 10.1 WiFi (GT-P7510) that they are currently running snapchat on? This is the original 10.1, and not the 2 or 3, and so on. Would anyone know what could possibly be going on? I wouldn't think that it would take much to run an app like snapchat, and I would think that the Tab 10.1's hardware would certainly be more than capable of doing so. The latest version of snapchat requires 4.0 and up, so I wouldn't think the android versions that I used would be an issue. Even the stock ICS 4.0.4 should be able to run it just fine. CM 10.1 was 4.2.2 and the other 2 ROMs that I tried were Omni 4.4.4 and Nameless 4.4.4.
I look forward to any help that can be provided. Thanks ahead of time everyone.

Amazon Kindle App Broken on AOSP 5.1.1

Realizing that Samsung (long ago) abandoned th P7510 (p4wifi), I rooted and installed Lollipop 5.1.1 by decatf. Fabulous! Love the speed improvements. Happy the Samsung junk is gone. The past month or so has been great UNTIL.......
I am on a cross country trip and ran out of paperback books. "No problem, I will just buy some books from Amazon and read them with the Kindle App."
Oh, s**t, the Amazon Kindle App is happy to let me buy and download ebooks, but when I try to READ a book, the Kindle App crashes and drops me back to the desktop.
Does anyone have the Amazon Kindle App working on the AOSP 5.1.1 ROM?
Can anybody suggest how to troubleshoot this problem? I have deleted and reinstalled the Kindle App. Cleared cache. The app let's me download books, but crashes every time I try to read ANY book (have tried several).
(I would have posted there, but "newbies" are not allowed to post in Development forums.)
decatf is a bloody genius as far as I am concerned. Without his ROM, I would have tossed this tablet.
kindle app update will crash on both 5.1.1 and 6.0.1 too I think.
it crashes under AOSP 6.0.1 ROM too , I just wanted to let you know that on the new version, it also crashes on some ebook title not all of them crash when opening, its almost random on 6.0 when the kindle app will crash. not sure if their going to be an fix to this problem anytime soon.
Which 6.0.1 ROM

Where did you get a 6.0.1 ROM for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (p4wifi)?
My impression was that decatf ran into a roadblock with Marshmallow and said, "That's all folks! Nothing after 5.1.1
I really have nothing to lose by giving Marshmallow a shot on this tablet, UNLESS..... are there other apps that you have found do not work on 6.0.1 ?
Thanks

The rom is right here, but some features are not working like for example I can't run the game Subway Surf update The last version that worked on my hardware is 1.47.1 on 11 26 2015, the Christmas version displays an message saying it does not support my Samsung galaxy tablet 10.1 it has an failure to initialize! Your hardware does not support this application, sorry!. So I can't use the Christmas update for the game its not related to the AOSP version but the game app itself is broken.
and the camera flashlight flash hardware part is not working either, it says the camera is working on the person page below but I can't get my camera flash at night to go on when taking photos.
The other thing is the crashing of kindle app when opening some ebooks, otherwise they do load.
under Galaxy Tab 10.1 Android Development  and its title [ROM][Unofficial][AOSP] Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow

p4wifi: WIFI only tablet.
aosp-6.0-p4wifi-20151211.zip
above is the build that I tried on my tablet. I don't think the 3D hardware is working with this build because the 3D running game called Subway Surf will not play at all and Fruit Ninja Free plays but it seems to slow down at times during the cutting of the fruits. I hope its fixed in future builds, Bluetooth somewhat works for my Bluetooth soundbar hardware but you have to turn it on each time you boot the android. and the percentage text is missing from the charging mode when the tablet is turned off, it just shows the icon changing without the text.
What does seem to work is scummvm app, these games they run just fine under aosp 6.0 p4wifi , I tried a few of mine like day of the tentacle, sam and max hit the road, and other titles etc.. so if you own these Lucas Arts games they will run on this tablet with this build they seem to run fine as far as I can tell , I got the scummvm build version from the play store but you can download it from here too.
http://www.scummvm.org/
you can use the above web link to also download new builds of scummvm if you need to they seem to work fine, on the new version. so far it has not crash the scummvm app at all, so as far as I can tell it runs under android 6.0 on this tablet, not sure how long the batteries work on the tablet running these games, I have not really test it that much so I don't no how long you can play them for on it.
Subway surfers fails to run , not related to AOSP version but the update itself cause
The last version that worked on my hardware is 1.47.1 on 11 26 2015, the Christmas version displays an message saying it does not support my Samsung galaxy tablet 10.1 it has an failure to initialize! Your hardware does not support this application, sorry!. So I can't use the Christmas update.
its not related to the AOSP build but the app itself fails to run on Samsung galaxy tablet 10.1 , the last version 1.47.1 on 11 26 2015 still runs, you don't get that message above until you update the version to the Christmas one, so its been brokened since the latest release, I just check that since I downgrade the app, and now it plays again.
Older Kindle App Works as Well!
Thanks for the wonderful observation that sometimes an older version of an app will work, whereas the more recent versions do not. I went to apkmirror.com and downloaded the Amazon Kindle app from Feb, 2015. Installed it as a "foreign source", and to my surprise and amazement, it appears to open and READ A BOOK! There are several updates between Feb, 2015 and today. I could, perhaps, try them one-after-another and find the most recent app that works. But, why bother? All I have to do now is be alert and NEVER "update" the Kindle app. (That's a good question. Since I did not install the Kindle app through Android Play, maybe it will not know the app is even installed, and will never offer me an "update".)
Of course, xdadevelopers has cost Google a sale, since I now have less incentive to purchase a Nexus tablet to replace my Tab 10.1
Thanks!
Kindle crashing lollipop
Hi
Mine crashes only on ebooks purchased after a certain date - all of them. it will still open ebooks previously purchased.
I am also running 5.1.1 on my Galaxy S4 - kindle works fine - sick of reading on the smaller screen.
thanks for the apkmirror.com hint brother

Where to start...

Hi guys. Just got confirmation that the 32/4 GB model I ordered has been dispatched so hoping to receive it in a week or two. Will need to get it up and running ASAP when it arrives, because my daughter is itching to get her hands on my current phone to replace her broken one, but as this is my first LeTV/LeEco phone, and my first Chinese grey import phone, I am a little confused about where to start to get it set up as I need. I am not sure if it is coming factory sealed with the Chinese stock firmware, or with a reseller installed ROM, but since the reseller said it is "preinstalled" I'm guessing factory stock. I have read through many of the threads on these XDA pages for the device, but as there are various ROMS and various stock SKUs it is a bit overwhelming. Hope you guys can give me your opinions.
How I am hoping to get the phone set up is as follows: at least basic Google functionality (Play Store, Calendar Sync, Contacts Sync), as little visible Chinese language as possible (preferably none), no active bloat (I definitely don't want to see the LeEco TV and video crap). Stability and decent battery life are more important to me than trying to get a more vanilla android experience, so I am thinking a stock ROM or stock-based ROM are better for me than trying Resurrection or CM (at least at first).
I am wondering if I should (a) stay with the stock Chinese firmware, try to install basic google apps and root/debloat it myself, or (b) flash the stock Indian firmware and root/debloat it myself, or (c) flash one of the debloated stock based ROMS. And if I go for option (c), I am not really sure whether to go for TeamSpain or Cuoco. What are their relative merits or demerits?
Hope some of you guys who already have this phone can give me your recommendations. Thanks!
P.S. My native language is English and I do not require any other languages (as long as I can install Google Japanese keyboard)
I've had mine for two weeks.
1. Download all the updates (latest 17s)
2. You can then choose between US or UK English.
3. Play store is pre-installed so download all the apps you prefer, like mail, browser, calender etc. and in App management go to Default apps at the bottom and then make your choice.
4. Remove the Le TV screen on the left of the home screen by long press it and click on the eye on the top and Le TV will dissappear next time.
5. To remove the Live button on the home screen you have to download a Launcher, I have the Nova launcher (Prime) and with the Prime version I can hide all the bloatware apps.
6. The Leeco bloatware is very resource friendly and
doesn't use upp any battery for what I can notice and with a launcher like nova there is no need to potentially ruin your phone already because Leeco will probably provide a couple more updates.
Any questions feel free to ask
@Barnis78 has already mentioned the most important things.
i for one use it with the Standard Rom Chinese 17s and Google Stock Launcher. And i Love it.
I don't remove Bloatware cause as Barnis mentioned it's no Problem at all, and you've got the Advantage that you get all the ota updates..
Thanks guys, that's really good stuff to know. I have Nova Prime too, so if the bloat is not impacting on device resources I may just do as you guys and go stock.

It did not with 16s, it turned out that the Google account settings didn't have the Contact option so I downloaded the Google contact sync 6.0.1 apk and restarted the phone and it worked. You will have 17s version
when the phone is updated so check when the Google account is setup if you have Contacts sync in the settings.
One more thing, if your calls disconnects after 2-3 minutes, go to the Dual Sim & mobile network settings and turn of VoLTE HD calls.

Phone calls, they did disconnected after 2-3 minutes when talking to people. I didn't know what the reason was at first but the reason was the 'Volte HD call' setting. You have to phone a person who also have the same setting, the carrier also has to support it of course.

Sorry mate, I was just joking - you know, phone calls, nobody makes phone calls anymore.
Actually, I do hardly make or receive any calls nowadays. But your info is good to know anyway. Thanks.
I'm thinking it might be better to flash the latest official Indian firmware, rather than the Chinese. I gather the Indian one has Google play services already built-in. Is it a simple process to flash that one? And is there any disadvantage to using the Indian firmware over the Chinese?
I'm also interested in the same, wether Chinese or Indian is the better deal regarding Stock firmware?

I'm running stock and the latest Chinese 19s, there isn't a single issue up until now. I had to recalibrate the fingerprint though. The battery life is very good, I charge once every 24 hours, I get like 6 hour more compared to the 17s version.

How do you update to the 19s? Do you have to do it via TWRP, or you can simply change the rom file to update.zip and then update from the file manager? Thanks

Was using Cuoco92 latest 17S based, but flashed stock 19S last night. It's a lot more effort to get it set up - get google stuff installed and working properly, root, debloat etc. But once it is done it seems to be working well. Latest xposed v86 works, fingerprint sensor works well, they fixed the theme selector bug (though I use Google Now launcher, so that isn't really relevant to me). Not sure about battery yet, but 17S was ok so if it is the same I'll be happy.

I'm running original, no root so with this update you download and place the file in the root directory in the internal memory, (no subfolders) I downloaded direct to my phone so I had to cut the file from Download directory and place it direct in the internal memory, the phone won't find the file otherwise. Then you have to rename the file to update.zip. Then go to System Update in settings and do a Local update, the phone will find the file automatically. Just leave the phone when it's updating, it will take several minutes.
I am also running 17s stock chinese firmware. I have Nova launcher and everything seems to be working fine. my carrier does not support VoLte so I have it disabled.
I am holding off on the 19s until its deemed stable by Leeco and add it to their OTA update. I dont want to beta test it
19S, with root and xposed, gravity box, and the leaked Pixel launcher is very stable and useable. Very pleased with it.
Started having a lot of problems with play store yesterday, both on Chinese 19S and 17S-based Cuoco92. In the end I decided it was too much hassle and just installed the Indian 16S. It gets lower Antutu scores and you have no control over the Dolby Atmos settings (as far as I can find) but otherwise it's stable and smooth and has a lot less bloat than the Chinese firmware. Overall, it's probably a better option I reckon.

For some reason my phone pretty much discharges 30% itself in about 12 hours while idle. WiFi is off, GPS is off, Bluetooth is off, Sync is off, all opened programs are closed. On LE_X2_X820-CN-FN-FEXCNFN5801607221S-5.8.016S or 17 firmware battery is good

Hi,
I can confirm that the Phone as delivered is free from bloatware for the most part (if doesn't sit around in the background) , The Chinese EUI factory rom 5.8.015s (mine has had zero problems) Is incredible fast My first run Anatutu was 145,725 and the EUI system menu style while not AOSP like it more than effective. Just install Google now and you are good to go.
I had a minor problem with finger prints but once I calibrated the sensor and used a better finger, Its funny how over time certain fingers are worn, lol.
I was going to root mine and Rom it but once I got my Max 2 I have been too busy snapping photos, videos, making calls to even bother !
I am looking forward to maybe android 7 from LeEco, which I'm sure they are working on, Again taking nothing away from the developer guys here.
If you want to be your daily driver I would leave it alone for now unless you want to.
cheers

Time to let go?

Hi forum!
I have a good ol' galaxy tab 10.1. And it's horrible. Super slow, Chrome won't run, constant "unfortunately ___ has stopped", for some reason Hangouts keeps attempting to run and stops. It's pretty close to unusable. Is it possible to save it?
I'm a newb (I've rooted and installed custom roms in the past, but nothing in the last 3 years or so, so I'm pretty much back to start).
Details:
Android version 4.2.2.
kernel 3.1.10-cyanogenmod
AOKP p4wifi_unofficial_Mar-16-13
The reason I haven't bought a new one is because I use it so infrequently. I've got the S7 and it does just about everything I need, but every once in awhile it would be nicer to have a bigger screen. So I don't really want to go out and spend hundreds of dollars on a new tablet if I can salvage this one for the rare occasion I use it. The reason I dragged it out this time was to edit a video, so it would be nice if I could do that (powerdirector doesn't support this version). Beyond that it would probably just be a movie player for road trips with the kid... Or if anyone has any other suggestions what to do with it, I'm open!
Any help is greatly appreciated! I'd hate to see it go!
No, never let go I've got 7.1.1 Nougat running well with the latest update. A bit laggy but not too much, and stable so far.
The trick is it will autoupdate to an incompatible version of Google Play services (and some other gapps) - unless you take the right steps as shown in this thread (check the first 2 posts and the last few pages of posts).
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-10-1/development/rom-android-7-0-nougat-t3471350
NB The gapps recommended in the orig post wouldn't flash for me. I used open_gapps-arm-7.1-pico-20170119.zip
from
https://github.com/opengapps/arm/releases/tag/20170119
Once you stop autoupdates in Play Store and roll back to the last compatible versions of some major google apps, it runs great for most ordinary purposes. My Sygic app is working properly again too.
Sure it's a bit of work and it was a bit confusing for me working out how to get the right version of Google Play services installed, but I found it very rewarding and worthwhile. There's a couple more of its nine lives yet imo. Was a great choice of tablet.
(I can't speak for hangouts though; I don't use it.)

Well here's an update in case you're curious: I've bricked it. I tried to flash it back to stock and now it's stuck in a bootloop *sigh*
So, if I can ever get it out of that state I'll give your suggestions a try. Thanks so much for posting!

So I'm going to see about getting JellyBam on there, it looks to be pretty stable.
I've just been trying to decide what to do with mine,
I have ASOP 5.1.1 but always get 'Google Play Services has stopped' so want to find a version that I can just put on and leave it on without having to do anythign too technical
Did you try the link that rubbercorners posted?
I'll take a look

Did you end up giving up on it? I updated to a newer version of Nougat (same link I linked above) and it seems to have solved the Google Play Services crashing error. But you still need to use older versions of some apps, and Google Maps doesn't seem to work properly any more (I use Sygic navigation).
It also has some kind of 'Neon emulation' which slows down some apps.
Realistically, with this tablet, you have to be prepared to use workarounds for a bunch of things and for most people it's too much of a hassle, and very laggy with things like Google Now/Assistant or whatever it's called. I doubt you could use it for video editing, and youtube works at 480p max I think.
Having said that, I have it running well for what I use it for - Sygic navigation, occasional browsing, gmail etc. And I think it would run 720p movies okay if already downloaded (I haven't tried Netflix etc.)
I doubt running older ROMs like JellyBam would have any advantage over the latest Nougat (I could be wrong?). Surprisingly, Marshmallow and Nougat run less laggy than the older ROMs ever did for me (including the official ones).
I went with Jellybam but get an error with the keyboard AOSP so can't type anything at all
Now Google Play Services started crashing again. I will try to solve it again, but I might be getting to the point of just using this tablet for Sygic offline navigation.
*slaps myself for losing faith in my tablet*
The developer fixed Nougat again and it's working pretty pretty nicely for me (no Google Play Services crash). Remains to be seen whether anyone will try to get Oreo running on it (or if it's even possible), but I can see myself getting another year out of this ROM:

If anyone tries it, note:
- read the first few posts of the thread carefully
- install using TWRP 2.8.7.0 if it fails using TWRP 3
- turn off autoupdates (see thread).
- if you have problems with Google Play Services crashing (it updated itself to 11.5.17 and is running fine for me), try to find a way to install one of the earlier versions recommended there - maybe install the earlier gapps (P7500-open_gapps-arm-7.1-pico-20170119.zip) and roll back/uninstall Google Play Services to the stock one if it autoupdates.
- there's an unfixable hardware bug where sometimes the battery drains with the power off. The workaround is to always shut down the tablet by rebooting into TWRP recovery and power off there. (This bug has apparently always been in this tablet, but it shows up more in later Android versions.)
- if tablet doesn't power up, hold the power button down for about 10 seconds
- I rooted using the phh SuperUser option (2 steps to this). Some people seem to be having trouble with the Magisk option.
seriously? ive had absolutely no issues with mine! I use it as a puzzle/game/ebook/reddit browser/ video player... nothing intensive and its a t-580 running 6.0.1 (Ultra Lean MM V6). Everything works (everything ive ever tried including magisk and xposed)...

That's the much newer Galaxy Tab 10.1 A - different tablet This thread is about the 6-year old original iPad challenger that it has become a point of pride to keep going.

OLD Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 GT-P5210

I haven't used my tablet for quite some time as I've had access to other, newer devices. However, now that the world is in lockdown I could really use it. The first thing I (tried) to do was install You Tube Vanced w/ microG, which went off without a hitch but Vanced absolutely will not load. It just spins, and spins until I stop it. I updated and tried to launch youtube standard as well and it took about 3-4 minutes to load as did every app I tried, except Titanium backup for some reason, so obviously there's a problem somewhere. The last time I fired it everything launched and connected immediately, and that was at the gyms less than optimum public wifi.
I'm guessing the main issue is that no current apps work with Android 4.2.2 so I'm most likely screwed huh? Any diagnostic apps I could run?
Well this might be important. I completely forgot that I paid to have the tablet rooted when I first got it, hence Titanium backup. According to Verify Root I have root access but no busybox if that's important.
Somebody posted about the same tablet and issues last year and the solution was installing a new ROM, I believe marshmallow, which I have no idea how to do and the instructions may as well be in Greek. I hate to even ask but is there a installation guide for the non-savvy?

Now I really need your help guys.
Thanks
