Update to android 12 changed default PPI - Samsung Galaxy S21 Questions

Default it should be 421ppi but after update it was 320 hence every apps looked awful (way too big)
anyone got same problem?

Yeah… I played around with the screen zoom settings and font size. Seems everything back to normal or I just got used to it.

I currently own a viewsonic vpad 10s tablet. It's currently on 1024x600.. is it possible to have a software hack or other to change the resolution to 1280x like the xoom?

OK, and now the even longer answer.
There is no way to increase the resolution to 1280 x 800. Our display is an AU OPTRONICS B101AW06. Look it up on the net & you'll find max resolution is 1024 x 600. What BK553 is speaking about is a change in text DPI. You can see this in Windows where you can change the DPI. Manufacturers normally set the DPI to give the user the best readability but not necessarily the highest DPI. If you change the DPI, text & icons will become smaller (or larger depending on if you increase or decrease the DPI). To see what effect LCDDensity Changer may have, see the attached picture. Icons are smaller & text is smaller, giving the illusion of higher resolution. Notice how the backbround is the same while the text & icons are smaller.
Again, you can not change the resolution...videos, pictures etc will always displayed at a max resolution of 1024 x 600.
By the way, check this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=864338&highlight=lcd and you will see that atleast in Dec 2010 there used to be a field in build.prop that you could change to change the DPI. I looked for it in mine (I'm running Calkulin+Clemsyn Combo v6) and that field no longer appears.

I use blade and spare parts to tweak the dpi. don't think you can get up to 1280 with any software though.

Cyanogenmod High screen resolution

I tried to raise the dpi on my mediapad while running cyanogemod by after_silence but if i enter anything above 213 it removes the home and back buttons and changes to the phone style notification bar. Any Ideas? His Rom is great, Its every thing i want except I want to use my 1280x800 screen as 1280x800. I would post this question in his devlopment thread but xda wont allow my account to do this since i dont have enough posts.
You need to lower the dpi to simulate a larger screen dpi.
Basically if the resolution is equal, smaller screen would have bigger dpi than bigger screen.
Android still use the full resolution regardless of the dpi. The dpi is an indicator of how big your screen is and it will choose the appropriate icon, font, etc based on that. You don't loose sharpness just because the font look bigger.
As the previous poster said - Android will use the full screen resolution no matter what.
When you raise the DPI, you are telling the OS that there are more dots per inch. The number of dots on the screen is fixed, so raising the DPI is telling the OS the screen has those dots squeezed into a smaller space.
At the default DPI of about 213, you are telling the OS that your 1280 x 800 screen is 7 inches diagonal (small tablet). Note that in Jellybean and higher, a 7" tablet will trigger the "small tablet" interface that looks like a Galaxy Nexus phone layout but still has tablet elements.
On the MediaPad stock ICS ROMs, the "high resolution" mode reports a DPI of 160, which tells the OS that your 1280 x 800 screen is about 9.3" (larger tablet).
If you raise the DPI even higher, let's say to 300, then you are telling the OS your 1280 x 800 screen is 5" diagonal (very small tablet / very large phone, like the Galaxy Note). In ICS this will pop you into the phone interface.
The OS uses this information to scale fonts and user elements. So if an app decides it wants to output text on the screen that is 0.5 inches tall:
- At 213 DPI the text will be 107 pixels tall
- At 160 DPI the text will be 80 pixels tall
- At 300 DPI the text will be 150 pixels tall.

Resolution decreased to HD - weird UI elements

Hi to all!
Well I've read some guides about how to decrease the resolution on my Z2 running latest Marshmallow Existenz ROM 5.6.5. Changed resolution to 720x1280 and system DPI to 253 (I have rather a good eyesight that is why do not mind small UI elements ).
Some apps were not satisfied with the DPI I told them to work in that is why I tailored some of them using Xposed module App Settings.
But there are some issues I could not repair :crying::
1. The bootanimation displays normally, but after some seconds only half of the screen is filled (so it says ''Xpe'' and then ''Existe''). Tried to install smaller (720x1280) bootanimation but the result is the same. I can live with that
2. The Recents' thumbnails are enormous. Even 1/5 of the app is displayed in the thumbnails. I thought initially that it is caused by SystemUI's messed settings with the DPI so I played with App Settings to repair it (both ''DPI'' and ''Screen (dp)''). Still with no luck.
Thought it might be connected somehow to Android WebView which is operating in country's local app with used stuff called Finn. There the thumbnail is also really huge, before the whole picture would fit in the thumbnails.
3. Is the suggestions/xperia menu search. The ''suggested'' apps are much bigger that the icons displayed in menu.
So it might be some scalling issue, but I have no idea which application would I need to adjust.

I reduced my resolution to 540x960 and set the dpi to 240. Performance and battery life felt largely the same. Graphics were mostly unaffected except for weird glitches like the ones mentioned in the OP (walkman aka music would straight up stop working though). Text looked blurry, perhaps a subpixel rendering thing.
At the end I returned to 1080p. It was not worth tickling my OCD for little to no benefit.
Thank you for your replies! Wow Pixelado, your resolution was pretty low. Beacause no newer Xperia has that resolution, the Sony apps could cease to work. I wanted to keep something still lower yet 'compatible'.
Yes the performance is pretty much the same. Antutu did not gave a higher score, even gave a lower on CPU and higher on 3D a bit. What I noticed was after playing 3D game for around 20 mins the temperature was around 53C, before in 1080x1920 it was over 61C (in a thin rubber cover). What are your observations?

The search for the best DPI setting for games and everyday use?

For those who don't know you can change DPI in the dev menu under "Minimum Width" (not taking any responsibility if you mess something up lol there is a reason it is hidden in the dev menu). The default is 411.
So far I have tried 10 different settings but due to the aspect ratio of the screen I cannot find the perfect DPI for games but also for everyday use. Not a fan of changing DPI just to play a game when I have a few minutes to kill. Any one have better luck?
Mine is currently at 441 (which means it must have adjusted itself from the 440 I set it to), and I think it's pretty good for daily use.
Can't really speak for games though.
Yep I'm using 480 at the moment and games seem to fit great but some apps don't like it
I've had mine set to 530 (it defaults to 533 after exiting settings for some reason) for a while. I found that setting it to anything above 550 results in a misaligned finger register where taking one place registers about 4mm above it. As much as I'd love to set it to 570, doing so results in this misalignment.
I haven't noticed any issues with 530. Only thing that messes up is Samsung's keyboard, but I use the AOSP Android L keyboard with the symbols.

Custom Resolution Android x86

Hello, I installed android x86 on an old laptop to run a game. Everything is working correctly and no issues so far. Now I’m trying to run one app that only works in cellphone resolution (720x1280). Tried to change resolution with apps from playstore, resolution changed but app stoped. Tried to change resolution with terminal ( wm size 720x1280 ), resolution changed but app still stops. Then i finally remembered to edit build.prop and added (debug.drm.mode.force=720x1280) to build.prop and the app started to work, but now the resolution doesn’t fit in display, causing the image to flip and stretch in screen. Now that I’m sure that it’s a resolution problem to use the app, is there any alternatives to display things proportionally on screen without flipping all the system and apps?
