Hi good people of XDA, Iam facing a serious issue in the Contacts app of my new Google Pixel 6.
When I call somebody and they answer their phone, the call shows as "Private number" in the Recents tab.
If they do not answer, then the contact name is shown normally, as it should.
Take a look at the screenshot here: https://postimg.cc/jL1yT1NX
All items shown as "Private" are calls that I made and they answered.
I've searched online, but i didn't find anything related to this issue. Am i he only one who is facing it?
Any insights could help a lot.

Looks like your carrier is blocking caller ID on outgoing calls or you somehow enabled it on your own. I know with Verizon I can block my number on all calls or on a case by case basis.

Hi bobby, thanks for the reply.
Caller ID is not blocked. The person that receives the call is seeing my number.

Oh I get it now. That's an odd one, I can't seem to find a setting where that would change things.
Maybe an app you have is messing things up. Have you tried making a call while in safe mode?

Explain safe mode please.
When you are on the the Emergency, Lockdown, Power Off... Etc screen, long press on Power Off. It will give you an option to reboot into Safe Mode.
Safe mode disables all of the apps you installed so you can see if it's an app causing the issue.
Just reboot again to get out of safe mode.
Go to settings > apps > all apps, tap on the 3 dots (upper right) and 'Show system' apps. Then try clearing cache and data for:
- dialer (phone app)
- phone storage
- contacts app
- contacts storage
Then reboot.
Not sure if that will help, but does not do any harm, it will resync all your contacs.
Hi all,
Thank you for your replies. I tried both suggestions.
I rebooted in safe mode and tried calling my wife.
The problem persisted.
I tried clearing data and cache for the apps suggested and rebooting the phone.
The problem persisted.
The strange thing while I am calling the phone of the contact is shown in the dialer. As soon as the person I am calling answers the phone their name is replaced and the dialer app shows "Private number" instead.
I am really confused!

I'm intrigued. Which carrier? Do you have wifi calling you can try out?
Maybe something in permissions manager?
Hello! We have the same problem. On my wife's phone (Pixel 6), the phone writes private number for outgoing calls. There is no problem with incoming calls. Like Gonik, I tried everything, but nothing helped.
We live in Hungary and our mobile service provider is Telekom.
Carrier: Cablenet
Wifi calling: not supported
My next step is to try a sim card from a different carrier.

Yes, it would be nice to fix it because the error is pretty frustrating. And on top of that, she got the phone from me as a gift.
Omg, I am not alone. So I bought unlocked phone in USA, and I am using it in Serbia (Europe) on mts network. ChrYslerHUN is in neighboring Hungary, so it could be related to usa/europe differences and European carriers.
But still, I have never seen anything like that, and it is quite frustrating. What does outgoing calls have to do with carriers. Your phone. should know which numbers you dialed, right.

I'm having the exact same issue. Not only me, my wife also has a Pixel 6 and is experiencing the same problem. I've searched in Google but only found a couple of posts in Reddit and this one. Has anyone found a solution for this? It's kind of annoying. I'm from Spain.
Happy New Year to Everyone!
In the meantime, I installed another dialer application that can also record calls, so the problem is partially resolved, as it shows the called party properly during recordings. Regardless, it would even be nice to have an official fix for the bug.
The dialer application name is: ACR Phone

I'm coming from the sensation.. and so far, the Amaze has been great. The speeds are great and the build quality is second to none..
The only issues that are actually bugging me enough to mention have to do with two google apps. First, w/ google voice.. has anyone been able to successfully configure it to work as the default voice mail service? I can't seem to get it to switch over from the default phone voice mail service... any ideas?
Also, with google talk, I can't get the video chats to work. When I connect with a contact, it does the ringing thing and then goes to a black screen and people say they cannot see me. Again, any help?
Thanks in advance.
I don't use talk, but voice works fine for me. The auto setup won't work, but your call forwarding should already be set up as that is network specific on T-Mobile.
Could you specify what exactly google voice is not doing? "Not working" is pretty broad.
I am having the same problem. Seems to work for a while and then goes back to tmobiles VM. I recently manually forwarded the calls so I'll do some testing hopefully it will stick. I called tmobile andbthey said it was forwarded to my gv voicemail but calls were still sometimes going to tmobiles

True. So to be more specific, under the call settings, when I try to switch the "voicemail service" setting from "my carrier" to "google voice," I get an error message that says...
"Failed to retrieve and save current
forwarding number settings.
Do you want to switch to the new
provider anyway?"
Then when I select yes, it then says...
"Forwarding number change
unsuccessful.
Please contact your carrier if this
problem persists."
Has anyone else experienced this? This is the first device among g1, mytouch4g, mytouch4g slide, and sensation that was done this.
Thanks.

Me too. But my settings were maintained from my previous device.
Perhaps try going to a different device, go back to carrier settings, go back to Amaze then try changing your settings and see if that works. I've been meaning to give it a try but haven't had the time.

I had it all set up with my last Android device.
I upgraded to Amaze.
I couldn't use the voicemail provider because I had errors but my voicemail was still setup with GV.
Basically the only thing that the 'switch voice mail provider' does is change the call forwarding on your device. The error you're getting, I got as well, but my call forwarding settings were set up before I switched to my amaze. You have a few options.
The first is to go into your Google voice account on the web, and go into settings and then click Voice settings. you'll see your devices and next to them there's a link to activate. It will give you the codes to dial manually based on your carrier to set up call forwarding.
And as a last resort, if you have T-Mobile you can always call customer care and they can change your conditional call forwarding settings so that when the call meets a condition (no answer, out of area, busy) that it will forward to VM. I'd assume other carriers have similar abilities, but none that I can speak with any experience.
Thanks for all the help, everyone. I think I got it figured out.
Now how about the Google talk video chat issues.. anyone else having issues with it?
Google Talk video chat not working for me either. Pretty annoying after paying a lot of money for this phone.
I had to sign out of Google voice on my old device first. Then setup Google voice on the amaze, and this got rid of the error for me.

So after upgrading to ICS I have a voice mail icon on my notification bar. This is a data only device for me with no access to voice mail does anybody have an way to clear the icon?

Ditto! Had it since first upgrading myself. Just figured out you can slide notifications away after pulling em all up, but sadly that one won't budge.
It's not a big problem, but does get rather annoying.

I got my Mediapad 2 weeks ago and had to get a new TMO SIM to make calls (old SIM refused to connect to network). I have had the new voicemail icon ever since and I have not upgraded or rooted anything. I'm looking forward to getting a clue on this mystery!

The typical way to get rid of this is to call yourself and leave a voicemail then delete that voicemail. I've had this problem on Android devices in general on the last few iterations of the OS. The problem with the Mediapad is that most of us have a data only plan on our tablets.
I had a similar problem when I asked T-Mo to disable voicemail on my prepaid SIM. Ever since, any device I plug the SIM into remains convinced that there's a new voicemail. This has remained the case for 1.5 years now. Perhaps this is an overall problem with their provisioning of accounts that don't have voice/voicemail.

I doubt it. For an unrelated reason I had to do a SIM swap on one of my trips to the USA, and the VM icon problem persisted through to the new SIM.
I think it's an issue in the way the accounts are provisioned. And T-Mobile hasn't managed to figure out a solution because I tried with them several times.
Come on guys simple solution.go to settings->apps->look for phone app and clear data/cache if this doesnt work do the same to the dialer app. This only clears that pesky voicemail notifacation.doesnt clear voicemail inbox

For me at least this won't work because I have neither a phone app or a dialer app. Nothing to clear, I personally think this is a provisioning issue that T-Mobile needs to deal with.

The only problem I see though is if I turn the device completely on then turn it on again the VMail icon appears again. But that's okay. At least I know how to clear it when I'm working on my tablet so that I don't accidentally touch it again (which I've done many times).

Hi,
I recently helped a colleague purchase a Galaxy SIII phone here in China, Guangzhou and made sure I checked the phone over completely before I purchased it.
I've done a search on the forums and check out anything that may be similar, but to no avail.
The problem is:
The phone will not receive any text messages, or at least they don't go through to the messaging app.
Text messages were being received normally for around a week
I disabled a bunch of pre-installed Chinese crap that is unfortunately not un-installable as it's baked into the ROM
It happened once, so I factory reset it, and then tested it. The text messages worked fine
I then disabled the Chinese stuff once again and installed Skype. Just to be sure, I sent more test text messages, and they were all received fine.
Around one week later, here we are, she says that text messages are not being received again.
All other functions of the phone are working. Internet / Edge network, sending texts, Play store, everything. Just not the receiving of texts!
I'm fairly confused as to this behaviour, particularly as it seems the text messages are working for a time limited period.
I had some inklings of what it could be:
- The SIII takes a micro-sim, the shop "manually" chopped the SIM using a cutter. Could this have damaged the SIM and caused this behaviour?
- The phone itself is faulty
- Something is up with the China Mobile settings / network and she needs to call them.
What would be your diagnosis, ideas, solutions XDA'ers?
Further information of any kind is, of course, available on request.
**** My ideas for a fix ****
Root the bastard and get a standard UK ROM on the phone to see if it works. However, I have some concerns. Years ago, when I bought my first HTC desire, when I rooted and put a UK ROM on it, I discovered that my phone was an imported Thai version of the phone and almost bricked it into a reboot loop as the phone didn't like a different regions ROM being loaded on.
I had to go through a convoluted process of making a specially edited SD-card to fool the phone into accepting different ROMS. Is this the case with the Galaxy SIII or have times moved on to more sophisticated means?
Thanks.
GJO
Have you try other messaging apps like Hancent SMS or Go SMS to confirm that msg service is not working?
Or maybe the CSC is causing the problem?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Open the stock messaging app. In its menu go to settings. Check that there is a number recorded under message centre. If not use Google to find the number for the carrier you are with and enter it.
I'm on an unrooted phone with a stock Rom and twice messaging has stopped working. The cause was that this number had spontaneously disappeared.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Ok, I've tried:
- alternative messaging apps, and they're not picking it up either.
- the message centre number.
When you say CSC? You mean the carrier code? It was bought in China and fitted with a Chinese ROM, but I'll look at the ROM settings and see what it is.
Thanks.
U dial *#1234# then you can see your csc

Hi guys,
I have been using the Lumia 920 for about 2 months now and I am pretty much satisfied, but I have a problem. I would be happy if you can help me out.
While I am in a call and somebody calls me on the second line, many times I get a call from an unknown number. For example today, I was talking to a friend and in the mean time my wife called. I see that someone is calling me but it says that the number is "Unknown". And it happens for many callers I get, not just my wife. Then when I look at the call log, it still says that it is a missed call from an Unknown number. Any idea is there a fix for that or I just need to wait for the next version of WP and hope it will be fixed.

HI,
I have the same issue. I think it's related to a call divert, when my phone is not reachable - do you have any call diverts configured ?
The issue could also be that your second line does not support or is not configure by your provider for caller ID.

No, that is not the case, since by last phone that I used on that SIM card was an iPhone 4S and I am still using it with another SIM card on the same mobile provider. On the iPhone I don't have that problem.

I guess that might be the problem. But how do I fix it? Remove the forwarding? I don't want to do that.
On my dual SIM s9+ I seem to be experiencing a weird bug with missed call notifications. Quite often no notification are shown for not answered calls. I only realize that there was a missed call when I open the phone app.

Go to settings, notifications, advanced, then menu button at top right to show system apps. Mine had 3 Phone options, select the second one and there's an option to turn on missed call notifications. Vzw had me change the importance to Urgent.
