Question Hotspot now works as a repeater while on WiFi? - Google Pixel 6

I was just testing my hotspot with my work computer and VPN for upcoming travel and realized that hotspot did not disable WiFi on my Pixel 6. Everything worked fine, so I then tried it with my wireless data connection turned off and my laptop still connected.
The only caveat is that when in 'repeater mode' my laptop connects to the VPN server but there are issues with internet connectivity. YMMV.
Is this new for Android 12 or Pixel specific or have I missed this before. I know earlier phones I have had always disabled WiFi when used as a hotspot.

I have seen it on my friend's samsung s21. Did not know that pixel 6 also supports it. Thanks for sharing.

It's been like that since android 11 I think. I had it on my Pixel 4 XL on android 11

Ah, ok. I am coming from a Moto Z2 Force which was abandoned on Android 8 (AT&T variant)

Started at either 3 or 3A.

Any way to make this work on Pixel 2 XL?

[Q] Change Wi-Fi Tethering Channel in CM10?

Greetings forum!
My setup:
Verizon Note II running PACMAN ROM 20.1.0
I was wondering if it's possible to change the channel that the Wi-Fi hotspot uses? I've scoured the forums and found that most people say theirs works very consistently and I thought mine was not . . . I can enable the wifi tethering option and my Mac Air connects ok, but it just doesn't browse the internet consistently. I thought I was an unlucky one until I noticed that my Windows laptop and Nexus 7 work just fine!!
I instantly had flashbacks to when I used to have a Clear Wifi Hotspot that only supported channels 1 through 7 and three different Mac Air's would not connect to it, but other devices were fine. The ultimate fix for that situation was to get a different hotspot that supported up to channel 11 and set it static to that. I don't know what it is about my neighborhood, the Mac Air, or what, but it just did not like to work on anything other than channel 11. I was waiting for the Spinal Tap joke from the Clear representative, but never got it.
I recently utilized a tip from Kaleb Randleaxe (thank you kind sir!!) to add ro.agps.allow=false to my bulid.prop and it fixed my GPS not working while the Mobile Network Location option was enabled!! Now I'm one fix away from having a perfect phone again. His suggestion made me wonder if there is a similar line I could add to build.prop to force the Wifi Hotspot to a certain channel? I have already tried changing the ro.wifi.channels to 11 and 14 with no success, but thats the total number of channels, right?
I actually got grandfathered in on unlimited Mobile Hotspot through Verizon, so I pay for the service and wish I could just use the native VZ hotspot app. I actually used to set that to channel 11 for best compatibility with my devices as well. At this point, there is no way I'm going back to a stock ROM after using PAC, and I hear it is built in to the TW framework.

how to use android as wifi repeater?

Recently my friend came across a device named Hisense E76 snapdragon 430 Android 6 which has the feature to repeat WiFi signal while connected to a WiFi network means the device can connect to a WiFi and also can tether or hotspot that signal like a laptop
So how can we also get that feature in any android or iOS phones if anyone can suggest or help about this it will be helpful or any app which can enable this feature for any phone.
Here are many hardworking developers if someone can help me out it will be helpful because I have a old phone lying around me I want to use it as a WiFi repeater for my own home's WiFi so if any one can help me it will be great full!!!

Lineage OS: Tethering not working reliable

Have the latest version on my Honor 5x KIW-L21. Very good ROM, much better performance than with Stock ROM, thank you all for the great work!
But what's very annoying is that tethering is not working good: Over WiFi Tethering connected devices periodically lose the internet connection, about once per minute. Sometimes, even the AndoidAP disappears on the connected devices. Have the same behavior on a Chromebook and on a Windows 10 computer. The Hotspot is configured WPA2/PSK and that it should never switch off. Haven't found any other configurable parameter. Have the problem regardless if the screen is on or of, or if the phone is charging or on battery.
It must be a Lineage OS issue, had never this problem on Stock ROM B370. The only thing that works reliable is USB tethering. Bluetooth tethering doesn't work at all (can switch it on in settings, but the Honor 5x is never visible on other Bluetooth devices).
It's a very important feature to me, because I have a mobile contract with unlimited data and I'm using that for all Internet purposes at home.
Have done a clean install with factory reset before flashing. What I have not done is rooting the phone, for security reasons, and because it's not described in the requirements for Lineage OS.
Has anybody have reliable Wifi tethering on a Honor 5x with Lineage OS or with another custom ROM?
Thank very much for any advice or hint about this problem, or a solution or workaround.

Problem doing VPN

Hi all
I've setup VPn tunnels to my office on my S9+. I've setup a PPTP from the built in client and IPsec and SSL from the Fortinet Client and none of them are working.
I'm sure that authentications are correct as I use same settings on my laptop running windows 10 and on a iPhone 7 plus.
Anyone with the same problem?
This might not help you exactly but there seems to be an issue with the stock ROM and VPNs. Adguard, which blocks ads via VPN, was also having the same issue and the devs have reported it to Samsung from what I understand. The fix will probably come during a later update since VPN issues are a bigndeal, especially for people who need to use their devices in a corporate environment.
My VPNs include one PPTP and one IPSec/PSK, and they both connect without issues on four different Verizon S9+ phones.

Hola
I just wanted to give you a heads up that Adguard dev's have figured out a temporary workaround to make the their VPN ad blocking features stick. You'll need to check their forums for the actual setting (or use their nightly release which has the setting enabled by default). I have this setting enabled and now I am able to browse ad free for the most part without issues.
I've just update the phone and it's now working yet. Besides that the problem is even worst because I can't even connect VPNs on my laptop if using the phone as hotspot.
I've reported to Samsung and I'm waiting for a call and a remote assistence but if I can get a fix in a few days the phone will be returned because this is a big issue for my work.

I used this functionality fairly frequently with my (Verizon) S8+.
I've just completed about an hour of testing with my (Verizon) S9+.
I tried the USB tether, the Bluetooth tether, and the Hotspot networking on the phone. In each case I established a network connection to the public Internet without issue.
The VPN connections from my Windows 10 system, however - using that S9+ connection - all fail now with one exception.
The PPTP, L2TP/PSK and IKEv2 connections (that all work[ed] with my S8+) will not connect using my S9+.
The one exception is the Microsoft-specific SSTP variant, which tunnels over port-443. That one will connect with the S9+ in all three networking scenarios - USB, bluetooth and Hotspot WiFi.
This seems to indicate that the new phone does not pass TCP port 1723 and/or GRE 47 (PPTP) and UDP ports 500 and/or 4500 (L2TP and IKEv2) through it's network tethering and the WiFi connections.
Bummer.
At least I can still use SSTP to get to my server resources - which is 90% of my VPN needs anyway - but the other connections are dead now.
Connections FROM the phone, using it's built-in PPTP and L2TP profiles to host networks, continue to work properly on the S9+ -- as they did on the S8+.

That is the Snapdragon version? Does it have a special ROM from Verizon or is the stock Samsung?
Maybe that is the difference

Stock Verizon (SD845 8.0) S9+ compared with a stock Verizon (SD835 7.0) S8+. I suppose the difference might be explained by going from Android 7 to Android 8, but I have no way of testing that hypothesis at this time.
(The last phone I modified was a 2013 Motorola RAZR. I've subsequently switched to using my phones as phones, rather than as a hobby. )
If someone has a different experience with employing a networked platform's VPN while using a similar phone in a tethered or hotspot configuration, it would interesting to know.
My own successes with the phone's built-in VPN (PPTP and L2TP) - as separate from the scenario described above -
apparently differ from those of others in this thread for reasons I cannot explain.
I'm in the same boat - a new S9 and can't connect to my work VPN when using the phone as a hotspot. It works fine on S8 and Iphones. Does anyone know how to fix this? This is a critical issue for me as I work remotely quite a bit.

I think there is no fix yet. I had someone from Samsung support connected to my S9 last Tuesday and they could not find anything so they escalated the problem inside Samsung but until now no further news.
S9+ work with IPSEC!
My Samsung S9+ work with IPSEC - tested on Andoid version 8.0.0..

What CPU does it have? Is it unlocked or from what network/provider is it?

CPU - Exynos 9810 - 2,7 GHz, its on Croatian network - T-Com ( T-mobile ) - locked.
New update in germany : G960FXXS1ARD1
Maybe a good patch ...
My S9 unlocked (SD) can connect to my L2TP/Ipsec VPN but disconnects within a minute or so (even if the connection is under constant use.) I have another Anrdoid 7 device (and a Windows 10 laptop) that has no problem with the same VPN/router/WiFi combination and can stay connected for hours. I don't know how to escalate this with Samsung in a way where they just don't blame my other hardware.

Enable Mobile Data while connected via Wifi (Xiaomi / Android Auto Wireless Problem)

Hi there,
i would like to use Android Auto Wireless which is slowely rolled out at the moment.
First only Google Pixel phones could do it, now Samsung phones are certified too.
In theory it could work with every Pie (Android 9) device.
I bought a new Kenwood Headunit for my car and it works after enabling it in the developer options - BUT - without internet connection.
The phone automatically connects to the headunit's wifi and that's it. No internet available. Of course the headunit doesn't provide internet and wifi is just used for the connection.
My phone is a Xiaomi Mi Max 3 with MIUI11 (ROOTED) and Android 9.
Google Play Services: current beta (19.4.20)
Headunit Kenwood DMX8019DAB
How can i force the phone to use mobile data when connected to the headunits wifi?
Thanks
...

I have the same issue with my oneplus 6t when connected wirelessly to my Pioneer AVH-W4400NEX. My mobile data/LTE disconnects and wireless android auto becomes unusable. Needs help here.
I use a OP7TPro now and maybe this helps because I needed to change this setting to make it work:
Settings - WiFi - wifi settings - automatically swap to mobile data (or something like that, it's german on my phone)
I have the Android 10. Yup basically that it the solution. Go to wifi preferences and enable "auto switch to mobile data". Thanks.
Unfortunately this doesn't work on Xiaomi phones. One of the reasons I switched.
