Is there a way to unlock the MetroPCS A52 to work with a T-mobile SIM?
I thought the TMobile sim work ok without unlocking the Metro PCS? Did you try to put in your sim directly in the phone without unlocking?
I'm using a tmoble a32 with a metro Sim and it's not unlocked at all.
T-Mobile owns Metro, so I think if anything was going to work easier than most, it would be a Metro-to-T-Mobile switch. I know Metro has an app that facilitates switching and it asks if your phone is unlocked (mine was, so I'm not SURE what the step after this was) but the way it was phrased seemed to imply that if it WAS locked, it mattered what carrier it was locked to for moving forward. I would investigate the T-Mobile site, or see if you can download an app of theirs?

Hi,
I'm kind of confused regarding the term locked/unlocked.
When I talked to Sprint, they told me that you can take the Motorola Photon to other countries (that use GSM), and simply buy a local SIM card. It's "unlocked", so you're free to use other SIM cards. BUT, she also said that in USA, the Photon has to use Sprint CDMA network. Was she just saying that to dissuade me from trying another US carrier on GSM?
So, is the Photon locked or unlocked?
On some other threads here (like this one), some of you refer to "unlocked bootloader". This is different than an "unlocked SIM card", which was what I was thinking of, right?
Are there other references to "unlocked" things that aren't related to SIM cards?
Thanks!
It does have an international unlocked Sim slot but the radio software is written to ignore USA gsm networks.so it will not work on another carrier here unless you unlock the bootloader and someone figures out how to rewrite the radio software, which they haven't yet.

Thanks for the response.
Another noob question. Rooting is different than simply unlocking a phone right? Or are the two terms used for the same thing? Rooting a phone gives you admin rights to install software that require higher levels of user access?
Where as unlocking (in this case) implies unlocking the SIM card to allow other GSM networks, or unlocking the radio to allow other US GSM networks?
That is, you can unlock some smartphones (allowing global SIM card use), but not have the phone rooted (not have admin rights)?
Unlocked has nothing to do with the sim card in our case. The sim slot is and always was unlocked from the start. Unlocked refers to basically the phones equivalent to a BIOS which allows us to rip out the os and install a new one aka custom Rom.

While the sim is unlocked it still won't work on US domestic gsm towers as the radio specifically blocks those regardless of sim lock/ unlock.

I am going to get the note but when i research on unlocking it i found the modem t unlock that makes it works with tmobile hspa+, but when i go on craigslist to to buy it they sell the note with "imei" unlock....whats the difference?...
IMEI Unlock = SIM/Network Unlock
If your phone is AT&T Network locked, you can use your phone with only AT&T sim cards.
So If phone is Network Unlocked, you can use it with any sim card.
Modem unlock will make your phone able to connect T-Mobile's Mobile Network (it unlocks the frequencies that hardware supports but not software)

There is no better or worse - if you want to use AT&T and have an AT&T SIM, then you don't need either.
If you want to use T-Mobile then you need to IMEI unlock the device so it accepts a T-Mobile SIM, then you need to install the T-Mobile Modem if you want speeds beyond 2G EDGE.
TL;DR: IMEI Unlock lets you use a non AT&T SIM in the device, Modem "Unlock" lets you use T-Mobile's 3G frequencies along with that T-Mobile SIM.
Can anyone point me to a good write up on how to install the Tmobile modem?
I am rooted and IMEI unlocked. Sorry just new to this stuff.

all i had to do (after root and unlock) was flash the "Blaze 4G modem" through Clockwork mod, from AllGamer's thread. that opened up the AWS frequencies.
EDIT: found it

so basically you need both unlocks to use it on t-mobile....imei to use t-mobie sim card and modem unlock to use 3g/4g speeds on t-mobile network....and i heard u still get a weak signal .....dont know if affects your experience as in dropped calls and slow data ect ect...but um @ schuflea http://rootgalaxynote.com it will tell you how to install anything on your galaxy note...good luck ..
if any one is still thinking about getting a gnote.....you should wait...its officially coming out for t-mobile....well thats wuts going around the net....theres even pictures of it with t-mobile branding.....you should wait like a month...its 4/28/12 wait till 5/28/12 lol....see wut happens....
So my brother owns a Moto-Photon, and he doesn't like Sprint as a carrier, he wants to go to either Verizon or Tmobile instead. Is it possible to switch carriers? I own a spare SIM card from T-Mobile, and when I put it in his phone, it worked just fine with it, so maybe there is some compatibility? I really need some help with this. I already rooted the phone itself, and I will be doing a bootloader unlock so he can get CM9 for it.
So can I switch the carrier, like some form of Super CID or something? I know it is possible on my Tmobile Sensation, so is it possible here? Let me know, thanks.
Check this out. Works for t- mobile or att. Don't know about Verizon

(HOW-TO) UPDATED 6-21-2012 Unlock GSM for domestic carriers on Photon
Sent from my MoPhoKing CMX Photon!
My question remains, when carrier unlocking an s9 or s9+, is there any way to make it available on different network types like say if the phone started out using a carrier that uses CDMA, is their any way to flash it to utilize t-mobile's frequency bands?
I unlocked two galaxy s9+'s that were on xfinity, which uses verizon towers. The two phones did unlock, but only for carriers utilizing CDMA. I was hoping they would be able to be used on t-mobile after unlocking, but they can't. Only messaging and data works using a t-mobile SIM card. Verizon works fine. SO my question still remains, is there a way to make it work?
I used itekimei .com to have the phones unlocked, as I found they were suggested here on XDA. And they weren't really able to answer my question either. They said it should work with t-mobile, but the conversation ended with "t-mobile is having problems with unlocked phones." This is super frustrating trying to get an answer.
Edit: I found this forum https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s9-plus/help/sim-unlocking-sprint-samsung-galaxy-s9-t3783571 which debates whether it will work or not. Also this one specifically about Xfinity https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s9-plus/help/xfinity-mobile-unlock-service-t3796349. But mine didn't work. I don't think U.S. S9's are cross compatible from CDMA to GSM. I have been searching and searching and can't find a way.
Yes, the US unit hardware is cross compatible. Heck, Verizon itself isn't all CDMA. They are phasing out CDMA soon and most of their network is LTE.
I have a US unlocked S9+ and can use any carrier in the US. You could too, all you need to do is flash the US Unlocked firmware to the device using Odin.
Your problem may be the Xfinity firmware restricting certain bands is all. Or possibly the device isn't really unlocked.
Regards,
I have a n200 5g on metro. I need it network unlocked. I'm not eligible through metro to do it for free yet. any cheap alternatives I can use? I have to do this by Monday so I can use the device on qlink wireless. I've searched around and I can't find much and the few places I have want to charge $70. yes I own the phone and it's a clean IEMI.
I spoke to metro just now. they refuse to unlock it. I've had it for 120 days and they require 180. qlink wireless uses the TMobile network just like metro does. do you guys think the sim would work without unlocking the device? I've heard a TMobile sim card does.

I would say to just wait until you reach 180 days. Only Metro can unlock your phone, not an MVNO or T-Mobile. Putting a different SIM card may reset the unlock timer.

I'm loosing metro service Monday. I have free service through qlink. I need to use the phone. I cannot find an unlocking service for it. I guess I'll have to sell it.
I want sim unlock for my phone N200-5g of metro by T-Mobile n200?
Me too
SIM UNLOCKED (bought in September/2021)
It got sim-unlocked after 180day, by simply pressing "unlock permanently" without using Metro or T-Mobile sim ever. after 180day however the phone is seems out of time (outdated).
