Why wont my pixel 6 choose a better Band with a better signal. All my other phones choose band 3 with signal around -92dbm while the pixel only stays on band 1 with the signal around -104dbm.
I dont know if it is the dec update or the beta carrier services or what else there is but it used to use band 3 which had the best signal.
If you installed the December update, that is likely the cause.

According to the HTC websites the supported LTE bands of Nexus 9 LTE version are: Bands 1,2,3,4,5,7,8,20
But when testing where only band 20 is available (using the Telia operator in Sweden) it only gets 3G. If I try the same SIM-card in my Galaxy S4 i9505 I get full signal strength of LTE/4G on band 20 (verified using the service menu).
I also tried the Tele2 operator which actually showed LTE service, but from using it in my S4 again it seems that band 7 was the strongest band in that place. When I tried Tele2 in another place which should have LTE coverage on at least band 8 and possibly band 20 it again showed 3G... (I didn't try it in the S4 as I didn't bring all the tools and adapters to use the annoying NanoSIM standard).
So does band 8 and band 20 actually work on Nexus 9? Otherwise it's going back to the shop because the lacking 4G support is not acceptable.
Well, the 5X is already getting an update, which, among other things, enables VoLTE and band 12 for T-Mobile users. So, we know that we may either already have the update before it ships, or an OTA will be available. For those who have been following this, it looks like Google beat everybody to the finish line with this. Motorola and OnePlus now either pretty much have to get certified or they'll be losing quite a few people!

If you read further down in your source, others users are saying band 12 is not working. The OP in reddit is just assuming b12 works as VoLTE is working..... I will get my 5x tomorrow and should be able to confirm is b12 is working.

A guy on these forums has a test unit and he still has LTE during phone calls on T-Mobile.

That doesn't mean anything the requirement is that the phone can make calls when only connected to band 12, for example if you are trapped in basement and can only get the band 12 connection you can make phone calls over that band. If you are on LTE and just standing outside you could be making calls on other bands of LTE.

Yes there is some misinformation going around. I originally read that Band 12 was for VoLTE but its just another band (700mhz I think) that has better signal penetration. So your phone can do VoLTE but not get band 12

True, but if the phone supports band 12 and VoLTE is working then there is no reason to disable band 12 since one can make calls when only band 12 is available.

Exactly. But T-Mobile has requested that Band 12 be disabled until they can "certify" it. I'm sure Google is going through that process now
I received my 5x and it does not connect to band 12. When I go to my basement, the 5x switches over to HSPA. When using my Sony Z3, it switches to band 12 LTE and can be confirmed by an increase in signal strength and via LTE Discover.
Not sure this will be the same with the 6p. But definitely hoping both the phones gets certified quickly so band 12 will be enabled.

VoLTE can work with or without band 12. Band 12 and VoLTE are enabled with this update. Band 12 is not fully deployed on T-Mobile yet. They require phones to have VoLTE capability on band 12 for safety purposes, and that requires extra certifications. It's a recent requirement, and unlocked phones and companies are scrambling to play catch up. However, VoLTE will still work on LTE bands 2 and 4.
Hopefully it won't be long.
I'm currently getting band 4 (NJ) in my area with great speeds. I just picked up the oneplus x and I'm wondering if down the road I may be on 3g or hspa connection since it doesn't have band 12. With tmobile expanding the band 12, should I be concerned that I wont have lte connection. will band 4 be inaccessible/dropped if band 12 hit my area? I'm not sure how the whole lte bands work.
I read this on a different forum. "Just because they are expanding band 12 doesn't mean they will phase out band 4, they will probably keep both so they can have better coverage."
I'm not too informed on these things, but that makes sense.
(Also using the OPX on TMo band 4 area)
thx. i read someplace that the band 12 is usually in areas where there is no band 4 or weak signal areas. so its kind of like an extension if that makes sense. i just hope the lte lasts a year til i move onto another phone. or someone finds a way to enable the b12 since it seems it has the hardware for it.
I've heard about the band 12 stuff but is there any unlocked phones with band 12?

yes, my backup zmax 2 has b12 as well as the nexus 5x just off the top of my head. plenty of others though. band 17 is another that some are missing from phones but that's for at&t.
Thanks for pointing that out I had a og nexus 5 this replaced an it didn't have band 12 either.
In the chicago market, att has 5 lte bands in my area - 2, 4, 12, 17, 30. The phone may not always lock onto the strongest signal. Of course there's direct control over gsm/hspa/lte, but not granular control over which bands in each standard can be used.
Came across this app which seems to almost do it all.

Requirements for band locking: Root
Limitations: only applies to sim 1
Not sure if it's an android 6 api issue or if the app just needs additional updating to allow similar control over sim 2. Either way, being able to lock out certain bands is helpful. In my immediate area the phone likes to lock onto band 30 (2.5 ghz). Signal is rather weak. Fastest throughput is not a necessity for most phone functions. Phone will achieve better battery life when signal strength is good/excellent vs weak.
Enjoy!
Could someone with a rooted euro a2017g please try this app and confirm it supports band 28?
Hello all!
I actually have an Oppo A series 2020 that I got while in the Philippines. I travel there frequently and live in Guam so we have a poor selection of phones to buy here.
It's a quad band dual SIM phone so I mistakenly thought it would work on my carrier here in Guam.
My carrier uses LTE Band 4 and the phone supports only 3 & 5 and like 20 others that are not 4. My question is, is there any way to change this? A search of the forums did pull up some apps that adjust the LTE Band but I couldn't tell if that was switching the default band or actually changing the bands available. Are these other bands locked by software only or are they fixed with hardware?
Any info or suggestions would be great. Thank you !
