Question Calls drop moving from Wi-Fi calling to 4g - Google Pixel 6

I've noticed if I'm making a Wi-Fi call and walk away from the router, the call drops when it should seamlessly switch to 4G
I have a strong 4G signal outside the house, so it makes no sense, has anyone else noticed this?

Have you switched off Mobile Data Always Active in developer settings. That may make a difference.

Nope, that's still enabled.

I've noticed this as well. There's been several times that if I leave my wifi with wifi calling enabled to mobile data, I cannot make or receive phone calls until I turn on airplane mode and reset the connections. Super frustrating

Mine just cuts off and can call back again so not quite the same.

Same here, the radio on this phone is a disaster for many of us.

WiFi issue on my Hero...

Hello everybody!
Someone of you has noticed a poor WiFi reception on Hero?
I'm experiencing a poor WiFi reception in my house when Hero is connect to internet thru an access point.
What happen is that after WiFi connection has been established the phone tends to loose it and restart connection thru GSM/3G link.
That happen also if phone stay in the same place without moving around and also when phone is close to access point location.
Any idea about way to solve the problem?
Regards.

Just an upgrade on issue...
If I turn off data connection thru GSM/3G and switch on WiFi seem that WiFi connection is stable so maybe issue come when both data connection are enabled...
Anyway is annoying shout down each time data connection on GSM/3D and power on WiFi!
Regards.
i believe wifi goes idle when not in use. so it connect to 3g or edge. However there is an app if not various in the market already to help keep wifi always on..
Do a search for wifi and see for yourself.

Thanks for suggestion!
At now I've solved turning off GSM/3G data connection when I'm at home anyway I guess that WiFi reception sometimes go away due to issue of the phone or maybe as way to save battery...
when that happen phone stay unconnected so I guess that should be better if I will check for apps that keep WiFi connection always working!
Alex
when the device goes into standby, the wifi is turned off to save battery poweer, and it will go back to 3G.
go into the wifi settings, press menu and select advanced.
select the timeout options
set to never and it will not turn off when in standby.
problem solved and you shouldn't have to turn off Mobile data, although with the settings widget on your homescreen turning mobile data off off each time is hardly going to ruin your life. in fact i tend to do this anyway, just cos i have spent too many years with windows mobile....
Here's an annoying bug I've found tho - on TMob UK
If I send an MMS from home, wifi on, it sits there, and doesn't send the message. Until I turn off wifi and 3G kicks in again.
Now I know for a fact that on my Magic, it was able to turn on 3g/HSPDA to send the message all by itself. Might have a look in thodse advanced settings tho to see if there is something I can do.. Not a biggie, just a bit of an annoyance.

I too, have been doing a search on Forums all over Google looking for a resolution to this.
I have noticed if Wi-Fi is enabled I am unable to send or receive MMS messages.
It is an annoyance having to turn Wi-Fi off each time also I am never to know if someone has tried to send a message in the first place.
Currently using T-Mobile G2 (rooted with MCR Rom 2.8) on T-Mobile UK

[TIP] Smart Action: WiFi Connection

Just thought I'd share something that is really working for me in terms of battery life:
Create a smart action that disables cellular data whenever you are connected to a WiFi network.
I have been consistently getting 12+ hours of battery with moderate to heavy use when on only on WiFi.
Thanks for the tip. I will definitely try this.

I have the same setup. Also have an action when I turn my screen off it disables wifi, background sync, cell data, and GPS. 12+ hrs here also.

I was thinking about setting something like that up, but was worried about interference with calls & SMS & junk... Any problems to report?

Why would you turn data off when screen is off??? Don't make sense doing that.
On mine data turns off the moment I connect to WiFi and that is the way it is supposed to work. Do you see a H, E, or whatever data icon next to the bars when you connect to WiFi? If not, it means data is already off. Why use the smart action then?

Calls and SMS you should be fine with because they do not require a data connection.

IIRC, although a WiFi data connection superceeds a cellular data connection when it is active, the 3G/4G radio is still alive even if it isn't involved in data transfers during that time..
I've certainly noticed improved battery life when on WiFi but explicitly turning the 3G/4G (mobile data) radio off.

How not?? Your screen is off and 3G/WiFi is killing your battery for no reason (unless you are downloading or background sync on for a reason), so why not have it off when screen is off and save battery. I still stick with JuiceDefender for this.

1. Data radio is one and the same with your cellular calls radio, so unless you go into flight mode, it is going to be active.
2. If it is not sending or receiving data it is not using more energy than when data is disabled and cellular stays enabled.

Interesting you say that, but I've noticed that as far as the what the phone's reporting via settings/toggle widgets etc.. "mobile data" is still active when WiFi is active (even if its status disappears from the notification bar and no actual mobile data activity is going on).. and, it can be explicitly turned off - leaving you still able to receive calls etc. Perhaps its not turning the
radio "off" per-se, but its definitely seems to be doing something over and above just letting WiFi take precidence for data transactions..
I've definitely noticed an improvement in battery life by doing this, over and above simply turning on and connecting to WiFi and NOT explicity turning mobile data off..
I also noticed that in some older versions/flavours of android (2.1, 2.2) the option to explicitly turn off "Mobile Data" wasn't present, relying instead (I assume) on what you've described above..

I don't believe this is correct. I believe the Wi-Fi chip is independent of the cellular antenna. That is what I have seen in every tear down of the phone.

Where did I say WiFi radio and cellular radio are in one chip? I said DATA and CALLS chip is one and the same.
I thought that it would be better to bring back an old thread rather than start a new one.
I have a smart action as described in this thread that turns off cellular data whenever I am connected to wifi. However, the problem I have is that cellular data does not turn back on whenever I disconnect from wifi. I have to manually go into my settings and enable data. Has anyone else run into this?

I sorta have the same(ish) problem. Data can take a little while to activate after I'm disconnected from WiFi. Every once in a while, I need to turn airplane mode on and off in order for data to turn blue. The fact that MMS messages are disabled with this Smart Action is a little disappointing too, but I don't receive enough while I'm home to be super frustrated by it...

I think the problem is to do with Smart actions not returning your device back to the exact state it was in before the action was triggered.. Possibly also issues with other smart actions interfering with the state of other parameters..
I wonder why Moto didn't go with an 'exit action' approach used by apps like Tasker?

Wifi Turned Off unless i Disable Mobile Data

My mother in law got an ATT Alpha and tried to connect to wifi. It will connect and immediately say wifi turned off. When you disable mobile data it enables wifi. That makes no sense... why would the phone favor mobile data.
How can we correct this? I have owned 5 Samsung devices and never seen this.

Beacuse the phone has a Smart network switch feature. You can turn off in the wifi menu.

We turned that off and it still didnt work. we then turned it back on and it didnt correct the issue either. Is a restart needed when you do or something?
Kinda odd that in a home with nearly no data signal from the provider (they use femtocell) that it would prefer the mobile data network over the wifi.
apparently a reboot was needed. thx!

WiFi Calling Not Working

Hello everyone,
Has anyone here experienced issues with WiFi calling? I have it enabled and it initially received some sort of message stating that it was enabled, however I constantly have dropped calls at my home. Unless the feature is virtually useless, this leads me to believe that it isn't really working. Does anyone have any input?
I'm on patch level 2016-09-01 (6.0.1) on the H820 just to be clear.
Thanks for any input.
Have you tried putting the phone into airplane mode, then turning wifi & wifi calling back on? That should force it into wifi calling mode, the wifi signal with a + on it will let you know.

First off thank you for the response. I will try this, however I should point out that wifi calling shows the icons and therefore should supposedly be working. I just constantly have dropped calls and feel as though it isn't doing anything.

Question Failing to switch to cellular data with "Mobile data always active" switched off

If I go into developer settings and switch off Mobile data always active (in an attempt to save a little power when the phone is on Wifi), I find the phone often doesn't enable data when I leave Wifi. I have to cycle airplane mode to make it do it.
Anyone else finding the same bug? Or even using this setting?
I've had dropped connection issues since day 1, with airplane mode being the only way to restore my connection. And this was with Mobile Data always active set to on.
Who is your Carrier??
Have you noticed similar issues even with mobile data always active?
When I go to building with no cellular and come back outside. The phone doesn't automatically reconnect to cellular, leaving me with no service. What a strange bug.

EE in the UK. Works fine almost all the time so far if I keep mobile data active.
Vodafone Romania, toggled the setting off in dev options as soon as I got the phone. Data switching works fine still.
Try going into the testing menu (dialer code *#*#4636#*#*), select phone information, select 3dot menu on top right corner, try switching around between Europe and automatic. I'm my case ,selecting Europe presented various weird connection issues , biggest of which was that the phone refused to connect to LTE unless I used "automatic".
