Question Heat - Google Pixel 6

Anyone else pixels getting very warm when just basic using the phone ? No gaming , no camera.
I'm using WiFi and just checking fb , chrome etc.
Phone is constantly warm

Not here. Constant warmth is a sign that something is using processing power all the time. Usually this is a app that has gotten messed up. You can try uninstalling and reinstalling all your apps, or do a factory reset/wipe. The factory reset/wipe is more likely to fix the problem, but it will also delete all of your apps and data (text history, etc) so make sure you backup anything you want to restore.

Running in safe mode is good way to test the rogue app theory.

If you just received the P6. Give it a few days.
When I first started using my P6. It was extremely hot for about two days. It was so hot that it scared me into thinking it was going to be toast soon.
But for some reason it went away.
There were quite a few other people back in October that also had the same issue when it was new.
Try a search in the P6 threads to read about it.

No such issue, even on first day of usage. Only warm came from 4K video on 60 fps for 10 minutes. But there's already a topic for this problem.

Too many apps to do that! I'll try safe mode

I don't have such problems on mine. Usually it is misbehaving app causing this. You can check battery stats in settings and see if there is app using too much battery to identify the problem.

Has anyone tried this Suduko game which works well on my Pixel 3.
But it now makes Pixel 6 very hot.
Any suggestions would be appreciated

my device is getting worse somehow

Had mine since christmas. I have accepted the wifi and GPS issues. Also the sdcard popping out. No other real issues
Now I'm getting a few deal breaker issues out of nowhere!
1. Browser crashes at least 1 time for every hour of surfing. Ill be watching view and standard surfing and all of a sudden the browser closes and leaves me on home screen. This is not talking about the constant "not responding" alerts. I need flash so I use this browser.
2. Can't use gmail! Its very sporadic but basically ill try to open an email and it becomes non responsive and eventually either closes or just goes black screen. I've read this is common? How can it be?
Those are the only 2 things I do on my device. Surf videos and check emails.
Any known solutions I may have missed? Any help much appreciated.
No idea if you have seen it or if it will fix your gmail issue but there is a gmail update out today.

Sounds like you need to first update the gmail app
Secondly your cache might be full : try one of two things - download and app called cache cleaner and use it or cold boot your Prime which essentially does the same thing
I'm not seeing an update but ill keep looking thank you! I really hope it helps so I can use my device more
Nobody else has similar issues huh?

hmm, 480mb does seem kind of high. Also which browser do you use?
I personally prefer either chrome or Opera.
Opera seems to be the fastest with the least issues, however the it doesn't feel as smooth as stock or chrome. (smooth as in scrolling and such, not the loading speed, etc)
GMail was just updated today that might help, version is 4.0.5

Glad to help. I don't know if that's high or not but if its slowing down then it might be. What I normally do is take the widget from that cache cleaning app and put it on one of my screens and every so often just tap it and cleans the cache.

I use stock browser for surfing my vids or anything flash related, I use Chrome for everything else such as surfing forums, etc.
BTW i read the post above wrong i went looking for a device update and didnt see one. Ill check for an update to the gmail app when i get home.
I'm in the same boat as you OP. I never had decent GPS, I didn't test Wifi/BT death until a few weeks back & Wifi was weaker than my OG droid. But, up until a month ago I wasn't having any daily issues...no more. I bought mine in the HH Gregg Friday the 13th "sale".
Now I'm starting to see screen bleed. That jives with the screw tightening theory.
The tablet crashes almost daily. The first crash didn't happen until after .19.
The stock browser wants to FC/Wait/Cancel at once per use.
Wifi is all over the place - it used to be only a few dBm lower than the OG Droid, now it can be 10 to 15 dBm less.
Wifi/BT immediately kills streaming (finally bought a BT headset)
I can't wait to see how bad the RMA process will be. I'll be video taping the packing at the post office, heh...

HHGregg next to Target actually carried these things? That's a surprise. And you must mean .15 it went from .15 to .21 US never got a .19.. as for the wait message in browser try going into settings>advanced and setting plug-ins to On demand see if that helps
Gmail has been unusable for ever since I bought my Prime. Constant crashes. I feel your pain. Yesterday's update did not fix it.

Thank you, at least I am not alone. Do you have any other info on this issue?
Is it google? Asus? Did the cleaning of Cache help?
I am at a loss if I cant have email working. In fact, who the hell will buy a device with no email??
Which means I'll have a $500 dollar paper weight.
Gmail has been fine never crashed since I bought it in Feb.. Are you rooted? Run fix permissions if you can that might help
not rooted
maybe its only us first batchers? the bcokas or whatever
Tons of opengl errors in the logs when gmail crashes. Sometimes I do see other error messages as well. I have tried submitting bug reports to google. No response. Tried with Asus. One completely inane and unrelated response 8 days later. Not sure where else to try looking for help. I'm not rooted. Completely stock. C2 serial number. I have done a lot of googling and found a lot of other mentions of the problem, but no fixes. Clearing cache and data does not fix it, nor did a factory reset.
I am in the same boat!!!
I could deal with all the other problems, but the web browsing SUCKS!!!!
I have done all the settings BS.....java on/off....plug ins on demand...etc. Even with Java off and plug ins set to on demand I have had the "wait/cancel" pop up....wtf!
Even other browsers....the page will load about 75% real quick and then BAM stop. It will then take some time to load the rest or I get the "wait/cancel" deal.
Twice today out of nowhere the screen goes black...and then it reboots.
The only thing I can think of is there is some sort of bottleneck with all the adds in java. If there is root for .21 maybe adfree would help.
But why the hell would you have to go thru all this!! I really love this little thing, but if this is the top of the line android tablet......man that is pretty freaking sad!!!
Its embarrassing sometimes, trying to show some one the prime. I dont even want to show anyone how it works....its gotten that bad.
As for the browser waiting/force close messages..
and it may not work across the board because I don't know what you have installed.
I got the wait/close messages very frequently during every browsing session.
using stock,ics +,boat,chrome,xscope,and opera, etc.
I uninstalled chrome and flash, then reinstalled flash and I now use opera exclusively and haven't had a wait/close message since. Going on a week now!
I use desktop user agent and flash always on.
I hate opera on my evo because its so slow but it works great on the prime.
Can't hurt to try it if you happen to have chrome installed.
never had an issue with gmail on mine. have you tried removing your gmail account under accounts and sync, then go to app settings for gmail, clear the cache and data, then re-adding your account?
I've got a BCO serial.

This might be simple, but have you tried a factory reset? I had stability issues with a couple of apps as well as the occasional OS freeze and a factory reset after the .21 update cleared up all of my performance problems.
If you check the "automatic restore" box under Backup & Restore in the System menu the tablet will automatically re-install all of your Google Play apps.

Is OpenFeint draining my battery?

Hello there!
I'm having a somewhat curious issue with my Samsung Galaxy SII phone: almost each time I turn the screen on from sleep, I get the "Feint requires an internet connection running to work...etc. etc. etc.".
I removed all games I knew brought OpenFeint with them, and scavenged around the phone to avoid it coming back to me....yet it constantly does, and I'm actually beginning to fear this OpenFeint "daemon" (or such) is actually draining my battery more and more (to the point I'm actually forced to charge it back twice per day....).
I'm on 4.0.3 stock rom, not modded since I haven't finished paying the phone yet, so rooting is out of the question....I was thinking about taking a backup and a hard reset, but I'm more than scared of loosing something, so I was hoping for a way to trash the darn OpenFeint out of the phone without having to re-initialize the phone itself....
Any word of advice, there? (Can provide additional details on the way, if needed.... )
Cheerio!

Save your contacts using kies or google sync and back up any files you want using app like titatium back up.
then do a factory reset, that will remove any user data including any problem files.

Thanks, Cosmic Blue, but, as I said, I'd like to think of this solution as a "last resort" (I'll keep in mind the suggested steps, though, )....anything else I could/should try before this, to nail the issue down?
Sorry no other way since Openfeint has installed itself in several needed files.
Short of factory reset, there is a very slim chance of deleting it without rooting the phone, as any app that can get rid of it requires root access.
OpenFeint faced has been accused of computer fraud, invasion of privacy, breach of contract, etc. so I am not surprise of the annoying stuff you're receiving. I managed to get rid of it when I upgrade to JB, for your case you may want to try this (sorry, can't post link yet):
1. Ensure you have a data connection, like 3G or Wi-Fi.
2. Start up a game with Openfeint support and hit the score or Openfeint tab.
3. You should now be in the Openfeint webpage.
4. Hit the menu button on your phone and select the settings tab.
5. Scroll down and hit the REMOVE ACCOUNT tab.
6. A second screen will pop up and you have to confirm your decision to remove your account.
Openfeint will be a thing of the past soon (they're gonna shut their servers down) but meanwhile you can use a file explorer app and delete the openfeint folder in your internal sd.
Hope that helps
Thanks xdanoober and bi11ie,
I had already tried deleting any openfeint account I might have unavertedly subscribed, but, of course, I could not connect to the darn server itself....:cyclops:
Yesterday, after writing my answer to this topic, I also tried deleting the OpenFeint folder itself as suggested. I actually zipped a copy before, to see if the contents matched any auto-respawn of the same...so far so good....the phone has been sitting quietly since this morning, and I'm still around 50% battery....let's see how this goes...will report back in a pinch.... :fingers-crossed:
A small update, 24 hours later: battery life slightly improved, I still see the Feint message, now and then, soI guess I'll pack my things and go for the harsh treatment.
Btw, does anyone know some kind of savegame backup app?I'd hate having to play again all my videogames...
Yet another update:I uninstalled "Elemental" and Feint messages seem to be gone for good: apparently, the game had an "exclude Feint" option....which did not work at all!!
Will monitor the situation for more developments....unfortunately,now that Feint has shut down, this issue will plague almost all Feint-supported games: they will try to log in to Feint servers at least once...and fail miserably, thus starting a battery-costing loop....:banghead:
Ok,we can flag this as SOLVED.
No Feint messages in more than 24 hours.Battery working slightly longer. Yay!!
Summing up the results, it was all Elemental's fault. A pity, since the game was funny to play....
Thanks you all for your suggestions.

The best backup app there is is Titanium Backup. You can find it in the Play Store (there's a free and a paid version) and your phone has to be rooted. You won't lose your data if you root your phone, so you can root your phone and then back everything up All the progress you've made in your games will be saved and you'll be able to restore it. Go for the Pro version because the guy who made Titanium Backup is amazing!! We should all buy him a  !

[Q] How to troubleshoot random reboots on stock ROM - Galaxy Note 3?

i've recently been encountering random reboots on my Galaxy Note 3 (N9005), on stock 4.4.2 ROM.
The reboot occurs regardless of time, foreground/background running apps, battery level and anything else i can think of. for instance, it can just instantly hang+auto-reboot while i'm browsing facebook, surfing on chrome, switching tracks on poweramp, or even when the screen is off doing nothing (deep sleep)!
I've tried to uninstall some of the recent installed apps, but still unable to find any culprit. is there any way i can identify the culprit, without resorting to factory-reset for my device? i spent a lot of time doing the configuration for each app that i use, and wouldn't want to repeat the whole process..
Thanks in advance for your help!
could anyone help please?
Only way to know would be to get a logcat or last_kmesg. You might try something like this since it is so random:

i downloaded aLogRec as requested and recorded the log for the entire day.
this is the log for the first 16hours - i opened it with notepad++ and the log was super short - is it normal?
Link 1
this is the log for the next few hours, where the random reboot occurred halfway - seems that it's empty. does that mean there's no way for me to know how the reboot came about?

Yea, that app definitely didn't work. Not really sure why. But other than catching it in the act using the logcat, whether it is another automatic one or just the manual way via the phone or computer, there's no other way to tell. You do know that you can backup most of your apps and settings with a variety of tools? It won't make everything perfect, but cuts the time of restoring your phone after a factory reset way down. I literally wipe my entire phone and reset it up like 3 times a week on average. It usually takes me about 20 minutes to an hour depending on if I just need it usable or exactly the way I like it.

thanks for the reply. got a few questions:
1. other than aLogCat, any other app i can try to catch the random reboot in the act?
2. yes, i could backup all my apps+settings using TB, but would i also be restoring the 'random reboot' in this case as well?
3. another symptom just occurred and i'm not sure whether it's relevant to the random reboot. after the random reboot (or so it seems), all my saved WIFI passwords get forgotten, and i need to re-enter the passwords for it to auto-login to my home/office network. i also realize it loses one of the settings i previously adjusted in Developer Options - the transition animation scale was set to 0x last time and set back to 1x.. but when it random reboots nowadays, it will just default back to 0x (which isn't the correct default).
i'm so frustrated at the number of problems my phone is facing right now..

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=scd.lcex - looks pretty solid and more updated than the other one.
Possibly, but since we don't know what caused it, no way to know. What you do is backup everything, reset, then test, then start to add apps back in and test. Sucks, but just one of those things. Software issues can be tricky because there are so many different factors in play.
But it seems like this might be an issue with certain Samsung phones with batteries that are not performing as they should:

alright, will try the Extreme version and hopefully it catches the culprit.
As for the battery problem, it doesn't seem like the same case as mentioned in the other thread - he had a reboot loop and crazy drain, both of which are not existent (luckily) symptoms on my end.
Your issues could definitely be explained by battery issues though. Have seen stuff like this before at my shop. Batteries are less than $10 typically and worst case, you have a spare battery so if you go out and about and the phone dies, you don't have to run to a charger / outlet.

any other possibilities and any other way to avoid it?

The only thing I can suggest is resting the DPI to stock, unfortunetly. Or a DPI that is known to work well with your device.

Display issue on game applications. [Galaxy s6 running marshmallow]

Okay, so as of yesterday, march 27, I have been having severe issues with my display becoming an extremely low resolution and pixelated to the point where nothing is legible or recognizable.
I've included a link to two two screenshots and their descriptions are as follows...
Picture 1, final Fantasy brave exvius main loading screen
Picture 2, Vainglory mode select screen
Picture 3, clash of clans loading screen.
I've done a factory reset, wiped all data under the sun from my phone. Installed and reinstalled games repeatedly but no fix. Can't seem to find a solution anywhere.
I've tried optimizing graphics apps but no bueno. Even tried battery optimization off for all apps. No fix. Only on game apps. Everything else runs as it should.
Please assist if a solution has been found for an issue as this.
Edit okay so I can't post links so message me if interested and I can send you the photos.
My post here helped me.

I tried reverting the game optimization back to its original version by uninstalling updates, clearing the factory default gameservice cache. It causes occasional flashing on game restarts and I have to repatriation the process, but resolves the the lower resolution issue.
I very much appreciate the call out on the other thread!
However I run into the slight annoyance of having to do this several times during a normal day of usage. It never actually saves the setting. I do not have root access as this is the factory Verizon build for marshmallow. (I wouldn't be able to do that on this worn thing).
Caveat: along with the "ghost" reapplying the game optimization services update and causing it all to happen again, what would be a good recommendate on for keeping the service at a factory setting?
Edit: skipped that infernal game Tuner altogether. It proved trivial to what the issue actually is...and was useless in the entire process.

Try a network reset.
Clear system cache.
Install Karma Firewall and see if an app or service is hogging the bandwidth.

Hi Blackhawk,
sorry that I didn’t mention clearly what kind of lag I’m experiencing. The lag I’m facing is not internet but the scrolling of internet and playing games frame rates not smooth. I see on YouTube that some people do use v30 to play games with smooth frame rates while my is set to the lowest quality in game but still lag.
Try clearing the system cache.
Try a hard reboot.
A 3rd party app might have alter hidden settings.
Was the change coinciding with a recent app install/uninstall?
Sometimes even after uninstalling the app the setting change remains.
If that's the case a factory reset may be needed... if you get tired of chasing it.
What's ram usage look like? Are any apps or services using excessive ram? Or shouldn't be there?
Play with it.

Hi Blackhawk,
I have tried factory reset 3 times. But still lag. My mobile is always free 1.6gb out of 4.0gb. I’m not sure what apps is hogging or causing the lag. I have tried uninstall some of the bloat ware that come with it like the telco apps, Deezer , google office.

Meh, factory resets are best used very sparingly like after a major firmware update, malware or OS is damaged. If the firmware is suspect at this point a reflash serve a better purpose.
Your ram usage sounds nominal.
What's the SOT like?
Install DevChek and examine the hardware etc.
Is it using excessive battery/cpu cycles at idle?
Install Karma Firewall, it's freeware and uses almost no battery.
You need to try to isolate the cause.

Hi Blackhawk,

Thank you so much for helping me. Really appreciate.

DevChek. Load Karma Firewall and use it's logging feature to it what apps are accessing the internet and how often.
Maybe something is goofed up with the internet connection settings due to changes on the carrier side. Access point names is as far as I've had to play with that.
Hi BlackHawk,
My phone start to work slightly better after I block some of the apps connection. But lagging is still there when I play graphic intensive. Phone doesn’t feel hot while playing game or maybe it’s cpu/gpu throttling.
Thank You for your advice. I will continue to observe the phone condition.
That's strange. Did you do any firmware updates*?
Is it internet connection related maybe ie online games?
Have the carrier do a network reset on their end.
Make sure the access point names are correct.
Double check all connection settings.
Maybe try replacing the sim card, handle like a stick of ram. They are susceptible to ESD damage, a failure maybe delayed or partial. They are dirt cheap but can cause a lot of trouble if not handled properly. Very few people handle them correctly. Like ram sticks they're nearly 100% good when they leave the factory until the end user gets them...
*Maybe the firmware got corrupted or the update was a dud, try reflashing to the same original rom.

I'm not sure how to reflash the ROM. Do I find the apps on desktop and use it to reflash it ? Sorry I'm quite green in this area/field.

Unfortunately I'm just as green. Never had to do it. Make sure it's not the internet connection causing the issues.
