Hello Guys,
I am so desperate and frustrated, hope you can help me!
I dropped my phone from 2 stairways height.
It was working so i didnt care, but when I came home I noticed that I had no reception!
So as I have bought the phone from Germany Amazon.com and using it in Turkey, I had no warranty (even if it said I have!!) I decided to open my SGS2 (I9100) and see if anything was loose. I lifted the pins that touched the middle housing and now I have reception for phone calls all the time thanks God!
But I have no 3G at all, what happens is that is some times shows G in the status bar but never with a + sign near it. I saw + sign only once or twice in the last couple of months.
I called my operator which is Turkcell and they said that my contract is on 3G so no chance on that side. The wierd think is that my phone works with no other SIM card than mine which is 5 years old!
Can anybody help in order to solve my problem? Is there a diagnoses tool that will help me test my SGS2 in order to find the errors?
Thanks for reading guys, I'd really appreciate some help.
Hmm I'd check my APN settings first, make sure they didn't randomly change for some reason. If that failed, I'd factory reset. If that failed I'd flash a new firmware+kernel+modem, and check my APN settings again.
If that failed I'd open it up again, disconenct and clean the antenna wire, reattach and hope for the best.
If that failed I'd suss out what is the most appropriate looking part/area of parts to replace, then replace it with either that specific part, or a pre-assembled part with the surrounding parts attached.
If that didn't work I'd list it on ebay as clearly stating the phone is damaged, outlining the problem and sell it "for parts only". Lots of people pay good money for damaged smartphones. Just make sure any sensitive data/pictures etc have been securely removed before selling it.
The problem with reception was fixed with lifting the pins that touched the middle housing but, stand by :
I think I never had 3G since I bought that phone from Germany.
I feel so stupid!
I read through more and more and I found that article:
androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s/258859-how-enable-850mhz-3g-network-frequency-your-samsung-i9000-galaxy-s.html
It mentioned about the modem frequencies so gave it a try.
dialed the number * # * # 1 9 7 3 2 8 6 4 0 # * # * as stated and bingo!
My modem doesnt list GSM 2100 which is the deault frequency for 3G in Turkey!
But the article doesnt mention how I can ADD GSM 2100 from the menu that dialing that number took me.
Any help with this is appreciated!
First, that article is for am i9000, which is the S1. But that's largely irrelevant because the service menu code still works.
Second, this phone doesn't get GSM 2100. Never has. It gets WCDMA/UMTS 2100. GSM is for voice and 2g, WCDMA is for 3g/HSPA. Looks like you went to the wrong option. (GSM, instead of WCDMA, like the article said.)
Third, you CAN'T add frequencies, on that menu or otherwise.
Thanks.
So why is that my phone connects with only Edge?
Can this be a hardware problem where everything else works?
Maybe these setting are wrong? Or maybe it has a SIM lock? but it works with Turkcell
Is there any manual so that I can these settings_

You said above you don't think you ever had 3g. Maybe your carrier uses 3g frequencies this phone simply doesn't receive.
For example, this phone well never get a 3g signal on T-mobile USA's network, because the phone doesn't receive 1700 UMTS/WCDMA. This is one of two required bands on AWS... Which is the band T-mobile USA uses for 3g and "4g". If your carrier uses AWS for 3g, it won't work on their network either.

No this is not possible. Turkcell is using 2100 Hz.
I have bought 3 phones from amazon.de site. The other 2 phones are working.
I have to get my settings set properly, to make sure its a faulty product, so that I can return it.
There are menu options like HSPA revision, GCF, bank selection, service domain, acquisiton order etc..
Where can I find what they have to be?

In that case, just go back to that service menu, debug screen - phone control - network control - band selection. Make sure this is selected to automatic. You can make sure all available bands for this phone are selected on in combi bands. If they're all selected on, then it sounds like it could be a hardware issue.
EDIT to add: OR it could be a modem issue. Maybe try flashing different modems?
Turn back time and don't drop it

So around 3 weeks ago I got a brand new unlocked Z2 D6503. As it says, it supports LTE and the bands it support are available and broadcasted here in KSA.
I'm on the operator Zain KSA and when I manually search for mobile networks, I do see the LTE network by the operator but whenever I select it, it doesn't register on it.
I've tried everything from calling/visiting the network operator from changing the SIM and getting a new one.
The FW I have is .314
Anyone has any experience or any idea? Do I need to reflash the FW?
May be enter the correct APN settings for your carrier?

Firstly, are you on an LTE plan? For Singapore, we need to sign up to an LTE plan and the operator has to do the necessary activation, before we can register on the LTE network.

That's the thing, I already had 4G activated, and I specially got it deactivated and activated again on this handset. 4G coverage is in my area, each and everything is in optimal condition. The network operator says everything is also fine at their end...

Yup everything is configured correctly
I can confirm that it is the handset that is not registering LTE.
I just popped in a working LTE SIM which has full coverage in my area and Z2 fails to register it...
Well I can't say much about LTE since I am on 3G data plan so can't use it. But the funny thing happened that I was on Edge connection, even tho I was in city centre and I could use 3G, it was full. So went into phone options and changed into 3G only and then Z2 has magically seen the better connection. Try to do that for LTE, maybe it will work. Otherwise I would flash other firmware or repair with PCC.

Okay so actually solved the issue.
I reinstalled/repaired the FW using Sony PC Companion and now LTE works perfectly. But the side effect? I heard that 4.4.2 causes many bugs and seems like I just got the phone sluggish one.
Phone feels sluggish in different parts as well as when I tap the recent icons button. Also the animation for WiFi turning on and off is not there anymore...
I don't know what's happening anymore....:/
I too have a bit of a lag when I hit recents menu button. I guess it's just the way Z2 is now and we have to wait for new firmwares, hopefully with less bugs, to come.
Happy for you that you fixed the problem with LTE

Yeah, seems like we'll just have to wait for 4.4.4 to hit...
Sad how the animations worked and there was no lag but sadly no LTE functionality. Such bad FW release.
And yeah atleast I fixed the LTE issue as I really can't stand slow internet and H+ seems pretty slow to me.
Same problem...install the new software through PC companion still the problem

I have an LG G3 Verizon VS985. I recently tried to update stock VS98547A using the LG UP method with VS98547A_01_0314_ARB01.kdz. Everything works great except trying to make or receive a call. Phone shows I have a good signal. But the call won't event connect. Just dialing for a minute then call would end. I do use a t-mobile sim, but voice calls did work when I was on Android 5.1.1 before upgrading to Marshmallow. Also noticed that only the 4Glte symbol only shows on the top of screen. It used to change from edge, hspa and 4g symbols I remember.
I tried going back to stock VS98510B by flashing the TOT file. But that still did not get the voice call to work. Maybe I should have set it to refurbished instead of upgrade when I tried flashing it. Any ideas on how to fix this?
I have same problem , plz help me too
Since I don't use T-Mobile I don't know for sure but maybe you have to add a T-Mobile APN.

I have added t-mobile apn settings, but the I still have not been able to get voice calls to connect. Receiving a phone call goes straight to my voice mail without even ringing on my end. I will try to put a different sim and check if it works. Thanks for the reply Rode Warrior.
You're welcome! Again, just guessing but there are certain radio bands that come disabled by default and can be enabled although I assume it might require root.
There are threads about it in the General and this section. I wouldn't know what you wouldn't have had to do that previously but would have to now, though.
Maybe find one of the T-Mobile threads in these Verizon sections and someone with actual experience using the phone on T-Mobile might be able to help better.
I cant receive and make calls , i cant call on 112 or 911 .
i can receive and sent sms , use wifi and other soft working correctly .
i try to flash tot file, kdz, but result 0
this is a video of problem
sorry for my bad English .
Ha, I have the opposite "problem". The phone makes and receives calls just find but it always says "no service". I change the band back and forth to global and cdma and the signal reappears but only temporarily.

No problem, your english is just fine. Looks like we have the same problem. I wonder if flashing the tot or kdz file changed the band settings.

I am wondering if flashing the tot file altered the radio bands of the phone somehow. It would be great if the VS985 had the hidden menu accessible to change the bands but that seems to be not available at this time.

If you find the thread or threads I mentioned, they give all the details. I'm only going from memory since I haven't had a need to enable bands that are normally disabled and I read almost every single post in every Verizon G3 section.
From what I recall, this phone doesn't even contain the necessary hardware for every LTE band out there, but it does have what it takes for some bands (LTE and/or otherwise, again I don't know off the top of my head what ones were available to enable). Somewhere in those threads - I don't even remember if the information was in the OP of those threads - they detail what bands are available on the VS985 (including the ones enabled by default, and what's available to enable). I know I also saw mention of which particularly bands some carriers use.
I check in Verizon Hidden menu all LTE bands ,
and after watching , when Signal losts , i undarstand , signal lost when mobile in active using , mobile temperature are high and when GPS, LTE and other services are active .
I think problem in antenna (motherboard , or other)
I have At&t and just got the Oppo Find N, chinese version. When i got to make a phone call, it pauses and sometimes doesnt seem to even connect before the call goes through. Data and texts seem to work fine with no hesitation. Anyone else having this problem or any advice? Thanks!
I had the same thin happen while in the office at home is working well.. not sure will test again tomorrow.. are you still having the issue ?
Sorry lads, i was on the same boat as you just a few days ago. My Find N also stopped making and receiving phone calls. Turns out AT&T shut down its 3G services hence you're unable to make phone calls. You'll need to switch to Tmobile if you want to continue using the phone. Tmobile is retiring 3G in July but I believe it handles phones differently than AT&T so we'll still be able to use it after July.
Not sure if that is the case I am on ATT and my Oppo N is on 4G able to make calls…
and might have spoken to soon.. unable to make calls any more.. The weird part is that SMS and 4G internet works..

It is pretty much the case. If youre able to make phone calls currently, it means ATT hasn't shut down the 3G towers in your area. They have plans to complete shutdown by Feb

Right..... You didn't speak too soon. The towers in your area were just shut down. You'll have to switch to Tmobile now.
Since folks here are talking about T-mobile, I have a question.
Does 5G work with it on T-mobile (I'm in the US)?
I saw that it supports n41 which is one of the band supported by T-mobile. But just wanna double-check.

I guess 4G LTE speed wasn't too bad?
I've been on both and honestly my 5G UC indicator shows up but the speed difference is not perceivable.
Suggest trying to manually change the band preference using a utility such as '5G LTE' by Rudra Green on the play store. This allows lots of different LTE and 5g options to be selected. The only problem is that the setting is lost after the phone is restarted. I have been using this to enable 5g in the UK.
I know with the op n200 metro version you could put your T-Mobile sim in and unlock the phone to work with TMobile automatically, I can't find confirmation anywhere if this works with the n20 as well, does anyone here know?
I just tried with a T-mo sim card in Metro by Tmo N20 and it didn't work

Was the n20 brand new and the T-Mobile sim inserted before turning the phone on the first time? I read that's how it works on some older phones, I think metro blocked it finally but was hoping it might still work.

yes, I received the phone in mail this afternoon, Brand new and first boot was with T-mobile sim, no service and Mobile network status showed "Disconnected"
The Boot animation did change to T-mobile on a reboot with the sim inside but still no service
As I was playing around with the phone, I stumbled upon a weird way to get signal by trial and error got 4G and 5G data as well but when Wi-fi connected, data seems to switch back to 2G. Let me know if you want to know how

Sure, here it is:
1. Boot the phone with T-mo sim inside the device, once booted you wouldn't have any signal
2. Go to "Sim info & settings" > "Preferred network type" and choose "2G/3G(Automatic)"
3. Reboot the device, once booted you should see signal along with 2G icon
4. Now go back to "Preferred network type" and select "2G/3G/LTE(Automatic)", you should now have 4G (Texts and data works but call dropped)
5. Now switch to "2G/3G/LTE.5G(Automatic)", you should see 5G network (Texts, calls and data all worked fine)
5G was stable for several hours until I connected to Wi-fi and when I disconnected Wi-fi, I noticed that data said 2G.
Let me know if the above steps worked for you

Did you get an incompatible SIM error, or just no signal? Also, you can't just put a Metro SIM in a phone and have it work. You have to call them and tie the IMEI of the phone.

OP is talking about the other way around, T-mo sim in a Metro device
Nord N200 had a bug where the device could be locked to Metro but worked flawless with T-mo sim.
That bug being patched is what OP meant by "blocked"

Yeah, I got that backwards. But if he's not getting an incompatible SIM error with a T-Mobile SIM in the MetroPCS phone and actually getting an edge signal, maybe add a new T-Mobile APN profile. Should work in theory.

Thanks! Good find! Yes I was able to reproduce the behavior. Also in my case it seems that the 5G/LTE will revert back to 2g after some idle time. But I can use the airplane mode to repeat the process (without rebooting the phone) to repeat the process. I was able to reproduce on another metro phone as well. must be some kind of loop hole.

I take it you're not a MetroPCS customer. Must be something baked into the OS. I wonder if it still has the MetroPCS bloatware since it booted with T-Mobile boot animation? Anyway, there are services on eBay that will unlock this phone through the MetroPCS unlock app. I'm not selling anything just letting you know that's an option if you didn't already know.

In theory, it's 180 days of active service but in reality, they've been unlocking 180 days after activation. I pay for first month and then throw it back in the box.
Also, I didn't see the unlock app as part of bloatware, its built into settings > about. It'll pull up the same screen as in Unlock app and we can try to unlock from there but obviously, throws the error showing it needs 180 days of service to unlock and is not eligible currently

On eBay it's 75 bucks to unlock. Thats like 2 months of service and you'd be able to use it in a few days instead of having a paperweight for 6 months. Thats what I did on my old Moto One 5G Ace.
