I'm curious if some one can tell me if this is an issue specific to this phone because the old Galaxy s7 I have does not have this issue at all, even when using the google messages app. I cannot receive images through text at a set quality on the Xperia 1 III. I have tested this by sending my self the same image multiple times in a row through a texting app. The original image size is 3024x4032, the lowest size it sent was 360x480, the second image and also the most common size is 822x1096, highest quality it sent was 1440x1920. It seems to receive the 2 lowest sizes the most. On my old S7 I never received images this low of quality, the highest quality on the S7 was 1536x2048, I have not changed my provider or anything in my plan.
Check the text message settings...
I've checked through all the settings I can find in relation to text messaging, I haven't found any setting to pic the texting image quality.
Are you sure your messaging app is configured to use RCS instead of SMS?
According to all of my research, I am using RCS. The thing that is funny to me is that on my Galaxy S7 I used the default text program until about 2 months ago when I started using Google Messages, and I have received higher quality messages with and with out RCS on that phone. It just seems like this Xperia 1 III decides what quality at random. Even earlier today I received 2 images from the same person while connected to my Wi-Fi 6 and one looked good and the other was pixelated to hell.
The Xperia comes with Google's messaging so when it works and when it doesn't is different from the other variants. It uses Google services for enhanced messaging.
It's just an app so you can replace it or even use more than one.
I've tried multiple texts apps already and they've all basically all did the same thing. It just seems hit or miss on this phone overall. I'm starting to feel like it might be the Verizon 5G network, but even when I set it to only LTE mode it doesn't seem to give me better picture quality., even though the S7 was only LTE and always had consistent image quality even with Google Messages.

Might be firmware. My text message pic size is always down sized.
I've now updated my phone to Android 12 and I still get this issue. I really think Verizon is destroying the image quality.

Ok first of all, hi ! Yes im the latest annoying newbie but I will try to keep my annoying questions to as few posts as possible.
Ok so the Galaxy S 2. My dear god I love this phone but sweet Jesus its driving me crazy ! It seems that to use a smartphone today you need to be a member of forums such as these or a degree in techstuffthatjustsoundslikenonsensetome.
For the life of me I cant believe modern smartphones do not come with a manual. I remember my old nokias of a decade ago came with small books to guide you through what was basically calling and texting ! These days...nothing and the manual from Samsung is hardly any better than the 'leaflet' that comes in the box. Anyway rant over but after exploring for days and searching on tinternet for answers I still cant solve a few issues I have with this phone so please any help would be a god send.
1. Vibration level. Is it me or is it crap ? My old 3g ( goodbye forever Apple ) could practically take me across a linoleum floor if i sat down but i just dont feel it when its in my pocket. I have it up to max but have missed every call so far !
2. Sms notifications. I have installed Go sms pro which is a great little app and i prefer it over the stock sms. However i cant stop getting sms through from the stock app as well as go sms pro ! I have uncked all available boxes in settings for the stock one but still getting them through, its driving me nuts. How can i receive texts only through go sms pro ?
3. Contact photos. Just cant sync them with facebook at all. when i try all i get is two each of the same people in my contact list, one for fb and other with phone details etc. All i want is a bleeding picture next to my contacts Am I missing something very simple or is this a good example of companies alienating the average consumer with 'harder than it needs to be' technology ?
And lastly
4. Web page autofit. So if I double tap on text it should autofit right? Well all it does is zoom in. I have tried all different settings, double tapping at different speeds etc and it works about a third of the time so I just dont know what im doing differently those times ! Do you have to tap on a specific part of the screen to auto fit or what ?
Anyway I hope your not all lighting your torches by now, I have looked for the answers ( and looked, and looked ) but to no avail and tried the suggestions from similiar questions on here but alas my love / hate relationship with this phone continues.
For many of your questions, a good old fashioned search would have turned up quite a few answers.
Just saying.
But....
This seemed to deal with your fb questions.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1088385&highlight=facebook+contacts
As for question four, have a search for 'text reflow'.

Thank you for your reply. With respect, as mentioned in my op I have searched for the issues raised and read the thread you linked to however my problems persist.
Does anyone else see the vibration level as an issue ? It does seem very low to me.
Yes, the vibration issue is a big problem for me too. I'm coming from an iPhone 3GS and before that I used a Nokia E71. Both of those phones' vibration would wipe the floor with SGS 2.
When I first got it, I kept searching in the menu for a setting, but there was only one for haptic feedback strength, not notification vibration.
I'm just hoping a future firmware update will fix this or a code will be revealed where we can set vibration strength.

i think this is a bug with the SGS2.

wait so text reflow DOES work for you sometimes when you pinch to zoom, then double tap that text and it fits the screen? cause most are saying it's not working on the SGS2. but i tested the samsung infuse last night, and it does in fact work like normal. so is everyone here not performing it correctly?
what i did on infuse, load a webpage, it loads zoomed out. i pinch to zoom to a desired level, then release. text goes off the screen edge. then double tap the text i zoomed to, and it re-formats to fit the screen.
we assumed this does not work on teh SGS2.
Feeling your pain, dare I say starting to think I wish I bought a htc sensation.
Come on, the facebook issue is a joke. I dont want multiple contacts of the same contact, ok ive merged them now, and hidden other fb contacts. That is until I want to send a txt, whoa they are all there again.
Sign out of fb, merged contacts disappear.
I just took this stuff for granted on my aging htc topaz.
Can't get any 3rd party launcher to display photo wallpaper properly.
Reader hub, sns etc, what a load of...
Page rendering/text reflow, taken for granted.
Hotmail, can't sync junk folder unless using exchange, which only downloads first part of email, click to load more.
Could go on.

Thank s for the replies, at least im not being a noob when it comes to these issues. its actually a relief ti know its software bugs and not me !
As for the double tap method i can confirm it DOES sometimes work to autofit the text. that is why i was getting frustrated when most times it does not work. i thought i was tapping a different part of the screen or some thing. i double tap in and out about six or seven times and then it will suddenly autofit.
im really hoping they sort the message notification bug out. as for Facebook i spent an hour earlier saving pics from fb, tra nsferring them ti my ohone and then adding my contacts pics one by one. pain in the arse but its done now.
typing this on my s2 has reminded me of another annoyance. the bloody full stop being so close to the space key i always have about 6 full stops in every sentence.

Better keyboard. Just get it. Or multi-lingual keyboard. Either will solve that problem
not sure why someone mentioned the "double SMS notifications" is a bug because it clearly IS NOT
you just have to go into the STOCK MESSAGING app, go to settings and UNCHECK "Notifications" (its at the very bottom of the settings)
I have Go SMS pro installed as well and only get ONE notification from SMS pro when i get a SMS - none from the stock messaging.
If the notification box is checked in the STOCK messaging app then you will get a notifcation from both the stock app and goSMSpro
I think it was very difficult to fit a bigger vibration motor in a smart-phone so thin like SGS2.
I guess we will have to live with it as is.

I can assure you that setting is unchecked. It was the first thing i did. I'm not the only one with this bug
I'm on the official ICS firmware with Galaxy S2. (With Bell to be detailed)
I have an issue with sending MMS. When I try to send a picture, it seems my phone sends the picture as a video/slideshow instead. This results in the picture file size being extremely low since it's gotta compress the image quality to fit it in a 5 second video clip.
Receiving hasn't been an issue. File size is all good and if I forward a received picture, it sends it exactly the way I received it.
I very rarely use MMS, so this is something I've recently tested. Don't think this happened before on the stock Gingerbread firmware. And on some custom roms (Samsung themed) it occurred and on others (official/pure ICS themed) it didn't; at least from what I recall. Any solutions?
Anyone got any ideas?
I've done some more testing and I've noticed that this seems to be effecting messages over 40kb.
I'm pretty sure this is the same on all the Samsung phones, but if I get a Picture via MMS, I cannot zoom in or out on the picture. The only way I have found to resize the thing is to first save it then go into gallery and then you can zoom in. Anyone have a better way?
And yes, I have used other SMS app's like Go and it works much better, but I happen to like the stock Message app, except for this non feature.
Yes, I find it extremely annoying after switching from SE Neo. I would also like to know if solution exists...
I've been using Skype on my Flyer since last November with great results. I bought my GF one for her Xmas too and we've always had good quality calls when I'm away from home.
She made the mistake of doing the update to HC a few months ago and since then our calls (from her side) were of poor quality - the video image was more pixelated and the video appears to jump back in time every so often.
I just updated to the later version of Skype the other week and now it appears that my video quality also sucks. It was excellent before.
Any ideas?
I had to remove and re-install Skype tonight as we couldn't get a video call to work at all....the cameras on both tablets would not activate and we were both left with black/blank screens.
Same here on my View, quality has been poor recently.
Plus I can't stay logged in for more than 20 minutes. It automatically logs me out and closes by itself and when I try to log back in I have to redo my password. I tried unistalling and then reinstalling but still the same.
Does anyone have the same log in problems as I do?
Have you contacted the creator of the App?
I have another issue with Skype that is strange, most of the time I launch the app and it logs in but no contact show up - turns out that it will somehow login without my password. It's not really logged in but for some reason a blank version of Skype is running - I need to log out and then login with the password and it's back to normal.
I've become used to this but it is a pain.
I left feedback for Skype complaining about the recent lack of quality of calls on both Windows and Android platforms.
Skype used to be by far the best option out there on Windows but recently I've been using MSN and Yahoo as the quality is vastly superior.
Is this what happens when Microsoft get involved?
One other thing that I noticed last night is that when the call starts my video is upside down (in my view). I then have to rotate the tablet to portrait mode and flip back to landscape to get it oriented properly. Anybody else having this problem? The other party sees my video in the correct orientation.
What messaging app do you all use? I have really been liking Google messenger for the past year or so, but ever since I moved to the V10 the MMS I send are garbage, the down sampling in pictures are terrible
Just a week ago I was on my trusty oneplus one with the same app and carrier (T-Mobile) I checked and all apns are the same, but one opo they sent great pictures via mms
My wife's G4 has been sending poor pictures via the same app and service for some time now, seems like March or so looking back at old pics - so with her MM update?
My question is why, I put my sim back in opo and use same app the pictures are great, videos are actually watchable. But through stock rooted MM on the V10 it is garbage...
The pictures I sent prior were in the 600-900kb range Everytime with the opo, now on the v10 they range from 20-200kb but mostly around 100kb
Is this the same for you all? Did you just use a different app for mms?
Super frustrated with this...

Really annoying and still can't find the fix
It turns out no matter what messaging app I use it still compresses mms way too much, some of these as little as 20kb
I tried Google messenger, hangouts, default app, textra, among others
All trying the various settings within the app to allow for the least mms compression
This is the same on both the wife's g4 and my v10 - and like I said before she didn't have the issue when she was on lollipop (I've only had mm so don't know)
I would like to blame T-Mobile but this doesn't happen when I use my oneplus one, so the issue isn't there, it's marshmallow on LG devices
I hope someone can weigh in here, searching the web I come up with lots of suggestions but nothing that works
I'm just about ready to sell this phone as between our families we send tons of pics everyday and people just get grainy garbage from my end and the wifes

Could be your messaging app changing the ua agent to something T-Mobile doesn't like (which results in T-Mobile resizing the pics to horrible sizes), or it could be the app itself resizing them like that. I use handcent and it resize pics to like 1.2mb to fit the mms restriction, gosms dos the same but both send and receive non blurry pics for me

Yeah something is strange, I haven't tried either of those apps but I will upon your suggestion - just get a bit weary over 3rd party apps for messaging
But either way it is odd I can use the same apps on other devices and all is fine
Upon further research it appears many had issues with the initial mm release not compressing photos enough so recipients couldn't view them or they never sent - maybe my issue is an overreaction to this issue with results in over compression
Either way I need to figure this out or I'll be back on my OPO

I have a similar issue using textra, but it seems to be mostly those with iPhones don't get my pictures or, usually, gifs. Could just be more people have iPhones though. Anyway, I tried increasing the size limit in textra but it doesn't seem to work. Really wish I message was universal, but I don't want an iPhone.
Just spent 45 min on the phone with T-Mobile, they are admitting there is an issue as now all 4 lines on my account are sending super low res mms,
They are sending to engineers and will get back to me in a few days
Can anyone do some tests for me, take any photo and send to someone, don't care the mms app, and then check the size your phone compresses to and then the size received -
On average I'm compressing and sending at around 750kb, when they receive it will be about 150kb, sometimes as small as 20kb
This wasn't the case just a few months back and I still get mms from many people in the 600-900kb on different networks
Just curious what everyone else here is getting
Sent from my LG-H901 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Figured I'd leave an update here in case this happens to anyone else
So after weeks back and forth with t mobile tech support and engineers it is now fixed
There was some strange issue that they refuse to explain to me but in essence once the device sent an mms and t mobile received it, it was then further compressed when sent out
This happened to all four lines on my account, all different phones...
Been with the same service for 16 or 17 years now and the first real annoyance, but i will say they at least pretended to care for the few weeks of back and forth and did finally fix this
So if anyone experiences something similar just be adamant about getting it fixed... It will take time
