What messaging app do you all use? I have really been liking Google messenger for the past year or so, but ever since I moved to the V10 the MMS I send are garbage, the down sampling in pictures are terrible
Just a week ago I was on my trusty oneplus one with the same app and carrier (T-Mobile) I checked and all apns are the same, but one opo they sent great pictures via mms
My wife's G4 has been sending poor pictures via the same app and service for some time now, seems like March or so looking back at old pics - so with her MM update?
My question is why, I put my sim back in opo and use same app the pictures are great, videos are actually watchable. But through stock rooted MM on the V10 it is garbage...
The pictures I sent prior were in the 600-900kb range Everytime with the opo, now on the v10 they range from 20-200kb but mostly around 100kb
Is this the same for you all? Did you just use a different app for mms?
Super frustrated with this...

Really annoying and still can't find the fix
It turns out no matter what messaging app I use it still compresses mms way too much, some of these as little as 20kb
I tried Google messenger, hangouts, default app, textra, among others
All trying the various settings within the app to allow for the least mms compression
This is the same on both the wife's g4 and my v10 - and like I said before she didn't have the issue when she was on lollipop (I've only had mm so don't know)
I would like to blame T-Mobile but this doesn't happen when I use my oneplus one, so the issue isn't there, it's marshmallow on LG devices
I hope someone can weigh in here, searching the web I come up with lots of suggestions but nothing that works
I'm just about ready to sell this phone as between our families we send tons of pics everyday and people just get grainy garbage from my end and the wifes

Could be your messaging app changing the ua agent to something T-Mobile doesn't like (which results in T-Mobile resizing the pics to horrible sizes), or it could be the app itself resizing them like that. I use handcent and it resize pics to like 1.2mb to fit the mms restriction, gosms dos the same but both send and receive non blurry pics for me

Yeah something is strange, I haven't tried either of those apps but I will upon your suggestion - just get a bit weary over 3rd party apps for messaging
But either way it is odd I can use the same apps on other devices and all is fine
Upon further research it appears many had issues with the initial mm release not compressing photos enough so recipients couldn't view them or they never sent - maybe my issue is an overreaction to this issue with results in over compression
Either way I need to figure this out or I'll be back on my OPO

I have a similar issue using textra, but it seems to be mostly those with iPhones don't get my pictures or, usually, gifs. Could just be more people have iPhones though. Anyway, I tried increasing the size limit in textra but it doesn't seem to work. Really wish I message was universal, but I don't want an iPhone.
Just spent 45 min on the phone with T-Mobile, they are admitting there is an issue as now all 4 lines on my account are sending super low res mms,
They are sending to engineers and will get back to me in a few days
Can anyone do some tests for me, take any photo and send to someone, don't care the mms app, and then check the size your phone compresses to and then the size received -
On average I'm compressing and sending at around 750kb, when they receive it will be about 150kb, sometimes as small as 20kb
This wasn't the case just a few months back and I still get mms from many people in the 600-900kb on different networks
Just curious what everyone else here is getting

Figured I'd leave an update here in case this happens to anyone else
So after weeks back and forth with t mobile tech support and engineers it is now fixed
There was some strange issue that they refuse to explain to me but in essence once the device sent an mms and t mobile received it, it was then further compressed when sent out
This happened to all four lines on my account, all different phones...
Been with the same service for 16 or 17 years now and the first real annoyance, but i will say they at least pretended to care for the few weeks of back and forth and did finally fix this
So if anyone experiences something similar just be adamant about getting it fixed... It will take time

Hi, I am a somewhat new user here starting originally with xtrsense 4.6.5. I am now using v 5.0.1 but I believe all the xtrsense roms use the original sense message app from stock 2.1.
My issue is that the messenger doesn't seem to split the messages up before sending them. From what I have read this isn't a problem for verizon users but I am not on verizon. I have set up my apn, prl, and everything else manually to get the phone to work, but this is the one last bug that I haven't been able to solve.
I know that I could use go sms or handcent, but I kinda like just sticking with htc's messenger. Does anyone know which files I could edit to help change this. I just downloaded the android sdk today so that I could poke around from the computer instead of just on the phone itself with a file manager. Also out of curiosity, where is the mms max message size stored? I think the default 1.2Mb is working fine but I want to play with some of the mms settings to see if I can get a better quality receiving/sending. I think it's just that my user agent isn’t really understood on this carrier, so I should change it to an android phone that they do have.
does anyone know why sometimes pictures on S3 come in as short videos even though they are clearly pictures?
i have found a work-around for this little problem, ill explain it in detail for those that have this same problem. I would love to hear some input
OK, so first i noticed that this problem was occurring between me and my roommate ( we both have s3's) when we would send pictures to test out our new phones. We were sending pictures directly from the default messenger app, we were both using the attachment button (paperclip button). It wasn't until today that i realized that the problem would disappear when we would use the photo gallery app to send the pictures by using the share function and using the messenger app. If youre having the same problem i hope this helps!
This was a Samsung thing that started with the GS2. It was fixed by the time ICS was released for it. Now, they seem to have forgotten they fixed it and have broken it again for the GS3.
I use GoSMS, so I don't really have to deal with it.
Has anyone had this issue?
I've Handcent and emjoi have worked for 2 years. Last 3 weeks, I just get this: ?=?
I tried GO SMS as well as ChompSMS and it's the same.
They can receive MINES but I cannot see theres.
Just seeing if it's an HTC thing (Rezound - Stock 2.3.4), Verizon thing or an Android thing.
Thanks in advance
same here, been working fine up until a couple weeks back. its really hit or miss as sometimes it goes through, other times, it receives the text in gaps L I K E T H I S. Reading the reviews on all the 3rd party messaging apps, it seems like everyone is having this problem
I saw that as well. But some recent reviews reporting it's still "functioning properly."
But now even if I have GO SMS, others I know w/ GO SMS can't recieve them either.
Sure hope Apple didn't "Patent" this and now blocking Android from exchanging them...
I'm not sure when this started, maybe around the 4.0.4 update. I used to receive pics/video from my wife, and they would display full screen. I could even pinch/zoom on photos. Now, they're always in a slide show. Even the videos show up in the slide show format and take up such a small portion of the screen it's hard to make out.
I have this issue receiving SMS from people on Android or iPhones. Is there any way to change this on the stock app, or is this something I'm stuck with unless I use something like Handcent? Do Nexus phones pull this crap?
I'll give this one bump back to the first page, but based on 242 views, it looks like this might be one of those cases where root and/or 3rd party app is the only solution.
I'm curious if some one can tell me if this is an issue specific to this phone because the old Galaxy s7 I have does not have this issue at all, even when using the google messages app. I cannot receive images through text at a set quality on the Xperia 1 III. I have tested this by sending my self the same image multiple times in a row through a texting app. The original image size is 3024x4032, the lowest size it sent was 360x480, the second image and also the most common size is 822x1096, highest quality it sent was 1440x1920. It seems to receive the 2 lowest sizes the most. On my old S7 I never received images this low of quality, the highest quality on the S7 was 1536x2048, I have not changed my provider or anything in my plan.
Check the text message settings...
I've checked through all the settings I can find in relation to text messaging, I haven't found any setting to pic the texting image quality.
Are you sure your messaging app is configured to use RCS instead of SMS?
According to all of my research, I am using RCS. The thing that is funny to me is that on my Galaxy S7 I used the default text program until about 2 months ago when I started using Google Messages, and I have received higher quality messages with and with out RCS on that phone. It just seems like this Xperia 1 III decides what quality at random. Even earlier today I received 2 images from the same person while connected to my Wi-Fi 6 and one looked good and the other was pixelated to hell.
The Xperia comes with Google's messaging so when it works and when it doesn't is different from the other variants. It uses Google services for enhanced messaging.
It's just an app so you can replace it or even use more than one.
I've tried multiple texts apps already and they've all basically all did the same thing. It just seems hit or miss on this phone overall. I'm starting to feel like it might be the Verizon 5G network, but even when I set it to only LTE mode it doesn't seem to give me better picture quality., even though the S7 was only LTE and always had consistent image quality even with Google Messages.

Might be firmware. My text message pic size is always down sized.
I've now updated my phone to Android 12 and I still get this issue. I really think Verizon is destroying the image quality.
