I have been using my AT&T black Lumia920 for about 2 weeks now. It runs Portico out of box (maybe, dont actually remember). I have been a WP7 user since launch so I know how windows phone works.
The first 3 days on Lumia 920 were fine, everything went well, however starting from the 4th morning I noticed the phone wont wake up by pressing the power button, nor did the alarm sound. I had to soft reset to power up the phone. So simply it's sleep of death. This happens every night and occasionally happen during day time when I leave the phone for a few hours.
4 days ago I cant bear the problem anymore so did a hard reset then flashed Rogers ROM on it. However after I reinstall some of my previous apps the phone wont wake up again. I looked into the backgroud loading apps and uninstalled Engadget, the phone did make it to the next morning. However after I got a few other apps from the marketplace the phone is dead in mornings again. I cant figure out if this is an app issue or system issue this time.
Anyone else having this problem? Should I request a replacement phone?

I have this same issue but I on;y have it at home where cell signal is garbage.
If I'm at work (in the city) i have zero issues.
If I work from home the phone will SOD more than once in an 8 hour period.
I'm curious, do you have a strong signal all of the time?

Signal is medicore at home where I charge, I use the phone a lot during the day so I cant really tell if SOD happens when siganl is good.
I don't think it has to do with the Signal. Me and my wife both have the Lumia 920 on the same Network, my wife never had this issue, I have it almost every day... I'm currently trying to get a replacement.
that happened to me once or twice before flashing portico, after flashing it never happened again

I've had this issue, I really never payed too much attention to it but its happening more often lately, with my wife having power button issues on her iphone 5 I began to think that mine was too having the same problem. But I can actually feel the button clicking which is something I can't feel with my wife's phone.
Nokia store updates to blame?
I've been having the same issue since I bought the device. It only wakes up after pressing the VolDown-Power combination.
My device has been running the Portico update out-of-the-box (8.0.10211.204).
To see if I could pinpoint the issue, I have been wiping my device and start all over. The wipe has been done last Friday night.
About 30 minutes after initial installation it prompts me for 6 Nokia updates:
* access Point
* network+
* accessories
* audio
* display+touch
* extras+info
This time, for the first time, I have NOT applied any of these updates, and until now it has not hung.
Another thing I noticed in the past is that when I disconnect from the charger (either cabled or wireless) it makes a sound.
After applying these updates in the past that sound was gone.
I will see if my phone keeps working throughout the week and then install the updates to see what happens next.

I tried the same, didn't work. Then what I did was uninstalling each one of those apps (my update list was bigger but some i couldn't uninstall as they were system settings) and then installing them back on the device instead of updating. No "SOD's" since, and i've had a lot. Hope it stays this way Either way I'm hoping the next update from nokia will fix these kinds of things.
Cheers!

I have the same problem but I think that is related to notifications, after uninstalling apps that used push notifications the phone last longer before it goes to SOD. If I use skype and whatsapp a lot the phone SOD more often and more frecuent too when I have it in my pants pockets.
I've never tried not installing the updates and the phone is wih the carrier so I can't test
I had several issues with this, and here on the forums I have made several posts thinking it was because the Keep WiFi on. But it is not!
I think it might be Battery App related. Or some other app, as some1 noted, possibly because of push notifications.
I had the last SOD several days ago, I have turned on Keep WiFi on, no SOD so far, yet before it was like several hrs after it was turned on. Also, I had overheating of the device on 2 occasions, then I have uninstalled EverNote, and everything worked fine. Again 4-5 dasys ago I had the second overheating issue, and the phone was in stand-by whole the time, I turned it off, waited 30 secs, turned it back on, no issues so far.
So, for now I cannot say what the trouble is except it is NOT OS related, it is APP related (probably an app with push notification).
The solution? Pretty unpopular, but that is the only 1, except for hard reset. Uninstall all the non-system apps from the phone, and install them back 1 by 1, and testing each app at least 24 hrs.

In the last 3 weeks I had 1 SOD, that last one 8 days ago. And that happened very strangely, I have received an email (heard the sound), and since my phone was in my hand I immediatelly pressed the power button, and the screen didn't come on. Tried 2 more times, and I knew what happened, so I did a soft reset and that was that. From that time, no SODs.
Is this issue limited to certain ROMS or non AT$T models? I have had mine for 3 months now and have yet to have the SOD and I have even recently ran the OTA update and still no SOD two weeks after that OTA.
I got the same issue with my Lumia 920 (European network/sim unlocked). Happened once after night and already twice during the day... . Phone has all latest updates installed... no idea what to do...

Review what apps u have installed. I think I have proven that it is push, and app related. Possibly even some battery app is responsible for this. Try uninstalling some apps, and to see what will happen.
Well, basically I got my phone back from the carrier it passed 5 days of monitoring without SOD and after 24 hours in my hands it happened. I did a hardreset to my phone to clear all my info before giving it to the carrier and now I'm sure that is some kind of app or at least a function that isn't often used by the OS.
I don't know if a flash could fix the issue since not everyone is experiencing the problem.
In my case it seems that the issue is increasing in its frequency...
I think I will have to go to Nokia Care Centre
1308 update seems to have solved this issue. At least 4 me.
My phone does not show any updates available
Got my phone yesterday and today it was in SOD. Luckily I woke up earlier than planned. Have a meeting today and things like this is fatal.
I need to be able to rely on the alarm on my phone.
Is there some way of disabling push notifications for apps, like in iOS? That would help a lot in this case, as it seems it's caused by push notifications.

Hello:
So, the bottom line up front is I need help solving a problem with my now third, new Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4--it keeps restarting on its own, at random times, but most often after I lock the screen.
To go in more depth, if you think you may know the solution: I purchased the S4 when it first came out, some time in 2013 (not sure specifically, but it was new) and it worked just fine for 13 months (1 month past the warranty of course); this was back in August, when I got the latest Android update pushed to my phone from Verizon (4.4.2). A couple of weeks later, I would occasionally get overheating warnings that would very quickly disappear (like within a few seconds), and then the device started restarting itself... I cannot predict when it will restart, it's random, but like I said above, it usually happens most right after I lock the screen by pressing the right side button once. I started looking around on the internet for a solution then, but only found a couple of videos from earlier in 2013 where people were having battery problems (Google search has been letting me down more and more as the years pass). One day while at work, I was listening to Pandora as I always have with the phone in my front pocket, as I always have. A few hours later when I got home, not having taken the phone out of my front pocket since those last few hours at work, I went to answer a text message I had received; when I unlocked the phone, the screen was black, except for a small bit of white showing through some cracks UNDER the LCD, UNDER the screen protector, INSIDE my Otterbox Defender... the phone appeared to be working still, but the screen and touch screen did not. At that point I was pretty damn irritated and tried to find answers for a week with no luck... I called Verizon, they sent me on a goose chase to Samsung, who sent me back to Verizon, who got me in a conference call with Samsung and then left the call, and then Samsung ultimately said I would need to pay for repairs to the phone... SO... I went back to Verizon who again said I would have to talk to Samsung, but instead I just settled to giving Asurion (my phone insurance through Verizon, whom I pay an extra $9 monthly) $99 as a deductible to get a replacement S4...
Two days later I receive a brand new S4... spend hours setting it up the way I had my prior one... wasting tons of my valueable time to do so and bandwidth from my Concast ISP and the data cap they've decided to give us... one week later, the phone starts restarting itself... and this one did it more often than my prior one... EVERYTHING is up to date, minus a good amount of useless bloatware apps I never use from Samsung, like "Watch On," which I ignore... but everything necessary, I update. So, I go back to Asurion, who quickly ships me a 3rd S4...
Two days later I receive that third, brand new S4... spend hours setting it up the way I had my prior one... and now, this one is also restarting itself randomly. Interestingly, when I visited family for Thanksgiving, it restarted itself over and over and over much more frequently than when I'm at my place... at my family's place, they have very poor reception, and my phone usually has to work more to try to get the signal... IDK what the deal is, but maybe that information can be helpful to y'all.
Other things to note:
1) When I check the "RAM manager" by holding down the home button and then choosing "Task Manager", the phone is always using at least 800MB of 1.77GB of RAM... even when I choose "Clear memory" and it tells me 30 something apps have been closed... it jumps right back up to 800-900MB of usage.
2) I've tried factory resets on all three phones; with the first one where the screen cracked inside, I hooked the phone up via HDMI... within a couple of days, the restarting begins.
3) With the first replacement I received, I could not sent text messages with the default messenger app... and shortly after trying, it would restart.
4) I have used the same SIM card with all three phones since the issue began, when I first got the 4.2.2 update... I do not suspect the SIM card is the problem, but I'm also not savy with the phone... I know my way around it, but I'm not in the know.
5) I thought maybe it started because of some apps I had been trying, so I had deleted them, and the problem still persists.
6) I constantly have a Pebble Bluetooth smart watch connected to the phone... I have since I got it last Spring (2014).
7) I have never rooted the S4, overclocked it, underclocked it, or modded it in anyway because I do not know how, and I was afraid of what could happen in the future with whatever ROM I did flash onto the device if Verizon tried to push an update to it... I just don't know anything about the whole process, and I'm assuming it requires a lot of know how and babysitting of the device... I just want it to work.
8) I've replaced the battery twice; it doesn't seem to be the problem.
9) I've cleared the cache through the boot manager thing gotten to by holding a combo of buttons on the device while it's rebooting... it did not help.
Edit: 10) Today while I was listening to Pandora in the car, the audio began to skip and scratch, and then it paused for a moment, and then the phone restarted itself.
11) I forgot to mention that the reboot process itself is very fast compared to a manual restart performed by me... the phone will go black, the Samsung color rings will show a second after that, the logo appears then, the screen flashes the red Verizon logo, and then the devices is ready to be used... it's less than 10 seconds.
I've been searching around on the internet for about two months now while dealing with the problem and I can't find anything useful. Does anyone here know what my issue is and how I can fix it? Is there a way to pull error logs / information from the S4 somehow to give to someone to diagnose, like DxDiags on PC? I don't know how to read that stuff myself, but I know it can be very useful... I just don't know how to find that info inside of these very locked down ****boxes we call smartphones...
I truly appreciate any help I can get--sorry I can't offer anything in return; if I can't find a solution, I'm just going to go to my backup phone from 2011 (Droid X), and I will definitely never purchase another Samsung device, especially after they blamed me as the cause of the problem without even seeing the phone...
Thanks.
The problem is with the NG6 software build, and "probably" not with your phone. Go to Settings>About Phone> and see what Baseband Version is on your phone. If the last 3 letters are NG6, that's probably the problem. There is a new OTA update (as of 12/1).....Baseband Version ending in NK1, which corrects the rebooting problem. Either install the new update, or go back to the NC5 baseband version and that should solve your problem. Both NK1 and NC5 can be rooted if you desire.
Yet another problem with my device: random reboots. No matter what I'm doing, lots of apps open or only one, battery high or low: the screen goes black, the red LED blinks a few times and off the device goes. Any other people experiencing the same?
You most certainly have a faulty unit.
It happened once. I got the phone on Tuesday. I was reading on Flipboard. Let's see how it goes.
Sent from my E5823 using XDA Free mobile app
it happened to me too, it was within 7 days period so i exchanged it for another one, the new one has been problem free
one of my friend also had random rebooting problem on her z3c and she sent it in twice for repair without success, if i didn't hear her case i wouldn't have demanded an exchange
Happened to me too, listening to music with my headphones, I pause the music to talk to someone, 5 minutes later press the headphones button to play, nothing happens and when I check the phone it was rebooting. Hasn't happened again yet, was 7 days ago
My phone has rebooted maybe 5 times in two weeks. Usually phone has been idling on table.

Seeing all responses here, it doesn't look very promising... I dont want to send it back yet, because the "service and repair" here in NL is a joke. They do a factory reset, say everything is fixed and send it back to you. I've experienced this before several times with my Z3c...
Hope a sofware update gets rid of these blackouts and bugs.
I got zero reboots after 1 week so i wanted to let you know because its to easy to get negative things out while the people with no problems dont come to the web because they have no reason yet
I had this problem, I fixed it by flashing latest build from xperifirm, and
I also had noticed media storage app using 1gb of memory so I forced close n cleared data and problem has gone.

that's exactly what they did for my friend's z3c, they kept believing it was a simple software problem, you gotta be tough to get more
like the other guy said, my first z5c would reboot just sitting on the table doing nothing, i suspect this might be more than software
Ill repeat, mine does not reboot for itself, and if would be, its an obvious sign 1) you did something what the device doesnt like, 2) you clearly have a faulty unit. Peace of cake, nothing to worry about, just exchange it and voila.
I've been having this problem on my brand new Z5 as well. I bought it from Clove so I really don't want to have to send it back. Gonna try and see if I can narrow down the cause or try to see how I could fix it (factory reset, reflashing the stock firmware or whatever).
Really hope it clears up.
Edit: So I repaired via PC Companion and I don't want to speak too soon but it looks like it's all good. The first time it happened was after installing a bunch of apps, including some older ones as well as some obscure ones. It's entirely possible that one of those apps were at fault. I've tried my hardest to replicate the issue since the repair (and being much more conservative with the apps that I've installed) and I haven't seen it happen once. I'm definitely hopeful now that it was an app-related issue and not a hardware one.

Just out of curiousity..
What color is your device and from where did you purchase it?
Ive been hearing about faulty white Z5Cs which Sony acknowledged even.
Mine is black. But I have only had one spontaneous reboot the second day after I bought it. 3 weeks now and it hasn't happened again.
Sent from my E5823 using XDA Free mobile app
Mine is black color.
I have it since 4 days, and it already rebooted three times randomly ...
I don't know if I'll keep this phone or resend back and have an other brand device.
It happened with my white one when I had my SD card plugged in. I sent it back and got a new one
Mine's black and it never rebooted on its own
Black Z5C. I've been getting that kind of reboot regardless of repairing via PC Companion, or build number.
Any thoughts on what might be the issue?
Also, off topic, I believe I have two dead pixels (installed Screen test, and two pixels can't reproduce blue color) and I was wondering if that was an issue that might get me a new phone or just repair (it's been 2 months since I got it)?
I've had it for a month and maybe have gotten one or two reboots. I recently took a week long vacation and got 4 or 5 freeze/reboots. I'd be viewing photos, taking a picture, recording 4k and it would freeze. Power button could still bring up the menu but screen is not responsive. Eventually it reboots with the red led flashing. Only one it just rebooted with no warning
I have between 0 to 3 restarts/day. Sometime it crashes and freezes in the crash without restart. That is very nasty. I'll try to track it down.
Ever since the Marshmallow update I need to factory reset my watch everytime it disconnects from my phone.
I get the touch to reconnect card on the watch, launch the app on the iPhone, press it and then it says Reconnecting... and after a few seconds it says Touch to reconnect once again - essentialy nothing happens.
I have been using Android Wear with my iPhone ever since the app came out in August, and this used to work perfectly with my G Watch R and then Moto 360 2nd Gen, up until the Marshmallow update a few days ago. Sadly, this makes this otherwise perfect update, which has made the watch so much better, useless to me.
If I do factory reset the watch it pairs without an issue and works again for a day or two until I wander away from the phone. Do you guys use your watches with an iPhone and if you do, do you experience such problems as I do?

Me Too!
This just started happening to me yesterday! I performed a factory wipe on my iPhone, and after going through the Android Wear setup successfully, I was connected normally. I turn off my watch at the end of each day, and the next morning I was unable to reconnect the two devices. That annoying "Tap to reconnect" card was displaying, and I couldn't get rid of it. Usually when this happens, I'm able to either turn off Bluetooth and switch it back on, or just completely restart the phone, and then the watch and phone are able to reconnect.
This is very frustrating, and I can't find a helpful thread anywhere! If anyone has found a fix, please let me know!
iPhone 6s running iOS 9.3.1
Moto 360 2nd gen running Android OS 6.0.1
Thanks in advance!

I have in fact found a solution for my problem about a week ago. I've spent the last few months using Aerlink and that was a miserable experience.
The solution as it turns out is even posted on Motorla's web site but I only found it there after I knew what I was searching for. Talking to their support earlier never helped and they never offered this particular solution.
All I had to do was, after a factory reset of the watch, go to the Bluetooth settings of the iPhone and just press "Forget this device" for my watch. Only then can you pair it again using the Android Wear app and have no connection problems later.
What had happened was that I had a working watch on Lollipop as it was the first time I had ever paired it to my iPhone. I then proceeded to unpair and pair it with my Android phone so I can get the Marshmallow update faster, which I did. Resetting the updated watch and trying to pair it again with the iPhone via the Wear app and without forgetting it from the settings app is what triggered my problems. I hope this was helpful to anyone who has this problem

WOW! So simple, why didn't I think of that? Thank you for the quick response as well!
The Zenfone 9 is a great little device. However, since today I have seen several automatic reboots of the device. Anyone else seeing this problem?
I haven't seen a reboot; any new app you've installed of late?
Good hint - I have installed one yesterday. Will uninstall and report back.
Unfortunately is still get 1-2 reboots a day. Not critical but annoying! Anyone else?
I'm on latest update and unlocked+rooted. Not a single unwanted reboot.

Are you on the latest update? Mine hasn't arrived yet, but I'm worried this issue will appear on mine.

Yes I am. No worries. Device is great. Just software.
Did a hard reset - problem persists. Not sure what the cause is - working with Asus support on it.
Hi, a friend of mine with a ZF9 has got reboot every night during charge (he uses slow charge, this night he'll try normal charge).
He had reboot even during daytime, he did a hard reset yesterday and for now everything is ok, but I'll update with new info in case of.
I've been having those reboots for weeks now. There is an official thread on the asus forums talking about it. There are more than a dozen people who have also reported it and from the looks of it, Asus hasn't found the source of the problem yet. Out of curiosity, in which country did you buy it? Are you rooted?
my version is a french version. I neither had any beta OS on it nor was it rooted. I wanted to provide Asus with Logs but they rather wanted the device for repair, now I'm waiting for its return.
I doubt this is a hardware issue though as the reboots did happen in cold state w/o any system activities ongoing. The only special thing on my setup was that I used two sim cards in parallel.
I did a hard reset and he problem remained. I also used slow charging.
I'm from Italy and the phone of my friend is not rooted and with bootlloader locked.
I heard my friend minutes ago, and from when he deactivated programmed charging the issue seems to have disappeared. Have you got programmed charging on?
Yes, I have the upload scheduled. But I'm beginning to suspect that the problem originates from a lot in Italy. I just asked you because I thought it was from there.
Love this phone but also having the same issue. Bought from Asus directly (US site) too. There's a whole thread of folks with the problem too on their forum:
ZenFone 9 randomly restarts
Hi all, I bought an Asus ZenFone 9 from the UK online store. I started to migrate the apps from my old phone to the zf9 and once I finished I started to use my new ZenFone 9 as my main phone. However, I noticed around 3 dso that when i wentato unplug a fter charging the phone it looked as if it...

Try to deactivate it and report please ;-)
My friend hasn't got reboot since then for now, two days and a half ago.
My reboots do not happen while charging, FWIW. And they're always while the phone is idle (sitting on desk). I look up and see it's spontaneously rebooting...
I was having reboots on custom kernel, just updated to 32.2050.2050.34 without going custom kernel (still rooted) and have had no reboots yet.
Mine reboots while watching YouTube app, either with high brightness, while charging, or both. It seems to be less likely to happen if i clear cache from YouTube settings.
It typically doesn't happen in other apps. Phone is stock. EU version.
After testing for a few weeks, there is a good chance that the reboots on my device are due to Magisk (not modules)
