Question Can't unlock bootloader - Motorola Edge+ (2022)

The option for "OEM unlock" is greyed out with a "connect to internet or contact carrier" error message. This phone allows the unlock code to be sent to my email so this must be a mistake. I've already received my unlock code but I cannot unlock the bootloader without this option enabled.
I've already tried wiping and reinstalling the firmware from the LMSA tool 3 times which was a suggestion on another phone on xda forums. This didn't resolve the issue. I've tried with and without the sim card inserted. I've had the phone for a few days and still greyed out for this option, it's been connected to WiFi and cellular the entire time. My carrier is straight talk and I'm using an unlocked sim as it works on all my other phones to connect to the network and receive data and text messages fine.
The Motorola website says my phone is unlockable and I've received the unlock code for my device, so why can't I enable this option in settings.
There are no updates available for my device.

I had to wait about a week after activation before I was able to unlock the bootloader. Once activating I was able to root it by getting the img file from the LMSA tool. The img is not yet on the Motorola web site and using the same methods as the 2021 Edge.

Here is a question
Can you play paid subscription video app OK?
Edge 2021 cannot after updated to S even with USNF 2.3.1
I am holding off Edge+ 2022 from rooting for this reason.

That makes no sense, "not saying your not telling the truth". Be aware Verizon is pushing these phones hard core, the reason I'm not sure of.....I checked my oem unlock in dev options and it lets me turn mine on..is not greyed out. Where did you get your device from? If you are not happy with it return it. Get a pixel or a OnePlus device.

The option was greyed out for over a week. But eventually it did unlock for me. And I bought my device directly from Motorola. I don't ever buy any devices from cellular providers due to the extra trash they install, not to mention the ton of background processes they install on your device for data collection.

I gotcha...I made the mistake of buying from provider, but fortunately I'm within my 14 day return period, so tomorrow my uw edge+ is going back!! I'm gonna get a OnePlus on Swappa!! The edge+ uw is not worth 900 bucks more like 450 tops! Your smart for staying away from providers!

Is there any kind of development on this? Thanks.

Verizon never lets you unlock the bootloader. Period.

[Q] Unlock HTC Thunderbolt SIM

I understand that this has been posted several times but I feel my question is a different in the reason that this phone will be used in a lab environment only.
I've been digging for ways to unlock the thunderbolt and I've come across many websites claiming they can unlock with a SIM unlock code if given the IMEI.
Here is my situation. We have here in our lab a LTE network in the same frequency range acceptable to the HTC thunderbolt. We've seen the Thunderbolt try to attach but of course we fail because we can't use our own SIM with all the parameters to pass Authentication.
From what I've read on other HTC phones when you put in a new SIM I should get a screen asking for an unlock code. This never pops up we just get an invalid SIM error. So is there a manual way to get this screen to pop up? Are there any other ways anyone could think of to allow me to use my own SIM for our network? The phone is rooted if that helps at all.
Thanks!
Call Verizon - They can unlock it for free - just explain your going on vacation overseas only thing i can tell you...
your allowed 1 free unlock per device then if you decide on another device wait past 6 months so you have another
chance to unlock the next device you get...
Have you been able to unlock the SIM on the thunderbolt yet - have same config in lab and want to use alternate SIM card for testing
I'd be interested in knowing how this went too....
Right when I got my TB and before I rooted, I was messing around with the privacy settings and I locked the SIM to see if I liked that feature. Something happened and it kept asking me for the IMEI, even though all I had set was a PIN. I called Verizon, quickly got tier 2'd, and the woman there gave me the IMEI without any problems. So if all you need is the IMEI, then all you really need is a good story

hahahaha, sounds good!
So, am I right in saying that VZW is the only one with LTE right now? Pretty much makes SIM unlock worthless (for now) except for those of you who are lab testing and such?
I'm doing Lab work with an Interphase LTE testrig at the moment.
Anyone succeeded with this unlock yet?
Sorry for the very late feedback.
So unfortunately we've had no luck finding ways to unlock the TB. We put a few weeks worth of work into it, and decided we had higher priorities to work on.

The IMEI code can be obtained on any TB by just looking behind the battery. The way these unlock services work, as I understand, is they use your IMEI code to run through some algorithm that will give you an unlock code. A lot of phone vendors use these special algorithms to lock their phones and they take in the IMEI code as input.
Now we did try one of these services but when we put in our SIMs according to other sites I've seen the phone should ask us for an unlock code. This unlock code is what you get from either you're service provider or someone selling the service to unlock devices. Unfortunately we never see any screen to even attempt to input this code.
So that's where we are with this.. Maybe we'll look into it again in the future.
Verizon doesn't lock them. It will only ask for an unlock code if you first lock your SIM (menu/settings/security/set up sim card lock) You'll want to call VZW to get the PIN, you might want to ask for the PUK at the same time. They gave me both, no questions asked.

When I say "unlock" I mean unlock the phone to allow for multiple SIM card use of different carriers... And like I said in the first post, we have an LTE network here in our lab, that is completely compatible with the HTC phone. We see messages being exchanged between the phone and our network.
We need to be able to use our own SIMs so that we can pass all authentication necessary to attach to our network. Unfortunately the Thunderbolt gives a "invalid SIM" error when we pop in our own SIM. So verizon must have some kind of special sauce that needs to be broken.

Do your UICCs have both USIM and CSIM applications on them? The TB is a special case phone, since it uses both CDMA and LTE networks to communicate. It may also be looking for an ISIM app. Finally, unless you also have CDMA running in your lab, the phone may still not come up on the network.
Any updates on this?
HTC Thunderbolt SIM CARD issue
You know after dealing with over three people I have spoken with I have told them that I need talk, text, web, mms and apps the whole nine yards now, I am dealing with some real issues I am giving in and I need someone who can flash my phone or program it to something I really don't care what even if it's a new activation.
I am currently using PagePlus Cellular so if you know anyone out there please let me know, I am ready to do this ASAP!
If you can beat the price of $50 dollars I am willing to listen.
If you put in the SIM card from another provider, you will get a "SIM CARD UNRECOGNIZED" error on boot. To fix this, go to settings -> wireless and network -> mobile networks -> and APN settings. In the menu there should be a locked APN listing. To unlock it, simply press the menu key and choose to revert to default settings, and then refresh. It should now allow you to modify the APN settings. Just insert them with ones from the old phone that you pulled the SIM from, and reboot. I was able to switch this phone to T-Mobile no problem
So, your thunderbolt works fully with a t-mobile sim in it?
You can get the unlock code from My Verizon off their website.

Has anyone bypassed the t-mobile data problem

I have been digging through the threads and it gets confusing with different people referring to unlocked tablets that are overseas etc.
I have a tmobile US springboard that is running the most recent rooted mediapad rom from this board (it runs great btw).
I was hoping I could use this device as my phone. I rarely take voice calls on the phone. I have Bluetooth in my car which is really the only place I talk to anyone and I have a Bluetooth headset if I need it. Most of the time I send texts and use data.
The problem is that when I put my phone sim card in the tablet, phone and sms work fine but data stops working (more specifically, it redirects to my.tmobile.com). From what I have read, I think we are just going to have to deal with it for now but I wanted to see if there are any options because some people thought that removing the imei file would help. There is also some stuff about data in the build.prop for the device.
How about getting a device subsidy unlock code from t-mobile? I should be eligible.
IMEI unlock
I copy and paste tmobile policy as blow:
support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-1588
" For information on the SIM Unlock Code, refer to the following:
If you purchased a device from T-Mobile, it has been programmed with a SIM lock which will prevent the phone from operating with other compatible wireless telephone carrier’s services. If you wish to use the phone with the service of another wireless telephone carrier, you must enter a numeric SIM Unlock Code to unlock the phone.
If you have a Postpaid Plan, T-Mobile will provide the SIM Unlock Code upon request to eligible customers, provided the requesting customer has a minimum of 40 days of active service with T-Mobile and did not request a Subsidy unlock code in the last 90 days.
For customers with a Prepaid Plan, T-Mobile will provide the SIM Unlock Code upon request to eligible customers, provided the requesting customer has a minimum of 60 days of active service with T-Mobile and either a Prepaid Plan account balance of at least $10.00 or a prior refill within the last 30 days.
T-Mobile will provide the SIM Unlock Code upon request to eligible former customers, provided that T-Mobile has such code or can obtain it from the manufacturer.
If you paid full retail price for a device, you qualify to have the SIM subsidy unlock code providedif you meet the following requirements:
The device must have been purchased at a T-Mobile retail store or authorized T-Mobile retailer.
The device must be paid for completely. You must be able to fax the proof of purchase to T-Mobile."
As indicated if the device is paid for completely, we qualify to have the unlock code. Have you or anyone tried to get an unlock code and tested?
I bought a Springboard on ebay and signed up for prepaid data for 60 days with tmobile after which time I requested a SIM unlock. I received the unlock code and after inserting my AT&T sim I'm able to make calls , get data, and text.
I can't specifically verify which bands on ATT nor whether I am getting real 3G data. I can verify that I am able to talk, text, get data.

If you're able to get more than 384kbps then you've got HSDPA/HSUPA/HSPA or whatever (real 3G is 384kbps). On most country, the signal label would change to H, on T-Mobile it would probably change to 4G. I can't exactly verify the label change though, since I'm on a data plan with 3G only speed (so my top speed is 384kbps).
If you can't trust the label then use those speed test app and verify it yourself.

I have a question: Since your device has updated firmware (mine is running ICS), does it mean it has been unlocked already? Have you tried a SIM from another carrier? In another word, will updating to a generic firmware unlock tablet automatically? My reasoning is that all the coding/decoding is through software and an updated generic firmware removes all the T-mobile stuff as far as I can tell. The software that is in charge of sim lock is very likely been replaced as well. My doubt is that people can then buy a Springboard with data contract at a much lower price and update the firmware to remove the lock. I bet T-mobile is smart enough not to let that happen.
I finally got the unlock code from T-mobile and bought an ATT sim card. Unlock is not that as simple as I thought to be. Strangely, my ICS does not pop up the unlock code entering interface. I cannot remember from which post I downloaded the ICS. It is within "the" giant thread. By using the famous ()()2846579()()=, it showed nothing after "SIM card lock state". So I flash back to HC3.2 and unlock the device in the pop up interface. After flashing again to the most recent general firmware from huaweidevice.com, it shows "SIMLOCK_DEACTIVE" after "SIM card lock state". Recalling the sim card lock status is one of the features installed after a second boot during the installation and I did not recall my first ICS did that, I am wondering if the first ICS does not install the component related to sim card lock status. Probably my springboard under first ICS is unlocked by software.
Anyway, I am pretty happy with the latest version and have an officially unlocked springboard. From this experience I learned that SIM card lock status in general does not change after update the firmware (at least the official one). And probably someone can do it by modifying the firmware by his/her own.
By the way the ICS I first had has no fastboot option.

I am thinking of unlocking too and I am wondering where you found the HC3.2 to flash? I searched the forum and the only one I found appeared to be made up of many smaller files. There appeared to be multiple versions of files and I was not sure which ones I needed and how to flash them.
If you only want to unlock, flash the latest ics for general purpose from Huawei. The unlock interface appears after you insert a sim card other than tmobile.

[Q] Gear S =Phone Not Allowed MM#6

Hello Everyone.
I am stumped on this issue. There doesn't seem to be any solutions for me. Here is What's happening, then I will tell you what I know..
Originally an ATT watch. SM-R750A
The IMEI is perfect. Not black listed at all. (Verified with ATT,SAMSUNG, and TMOBILE)
It is unlocked by ATT - I received the code and used it with the Tmobile Sim card inside when prompted. Success.
ATT Sim cards work perfectly, and with 4G!! When my Tmobile Sim goes in there, it only allows Emergency calls.
The APN settings are automatically populated. Verified to be correct with Tmobile. Basically, everything is fine on their end..
I am getting the run around from all 3 sources. They point the finger at each other.
Example:
Tmobile :"ATT did not unlock it completely, call them and ask for it to be fully unlocked."
ATT: "Once we gave you the code, our hands are tied. Call samsung, they may be able to complete your request.."
Samsung: "This is a service/network issue. Contact who ever your sim card has service with.."
Please help me, I have tried everything I can think of.
I researched all over the internet.. There are no working solutions anywhere!!!
I even Oden flashed the Official Firmware from ATT to Tmobile, so now my Model # is SM-R750T. I get the same errors. Att sim cards still work perfectly.
:crying:
I added photos of a menu I found on the device.. I dont know what this means..
I can draw conclusions, but I still need help..
Also, I have had the Tmobile Sim card replaced twice..
If someone could help find a solution, this will help a LOT people!
Thank You AHEAD of time.
did you flash the entire firmware package?
I only flashed official firmware from ATT to TMOBILE.. That was all. If there are further steps please let me know.
I stopped at the firmware install because I thought anything extra would have just been for customizing themes, etc..

Tmobile :"ATT did not unlock it completely, call them and ask for it to be fully unlocked."
From my understanding, there are no levels of unlock permissions. Once a device is unlocked, it's done on all levels and access.

The unlock code needs to be entered on device while connected to the ATT network...not TM's. My initial suggestion is kindly call back ATT and with the correct IMEI/ATT Sim inserted, enter unlock code again. You may need to flash back to xxxA first.
My thought here is the phone isn't unlocked according to ATT's server's Device ID data...when you reestablished connection with ATT, it locked the device again.

You most likely will not be able to use a North American S outside the US. It has nothing to do with the software...the frequency bands are different and hardcoded. You may want to check and see what bands are used by the providers in VN for cellular ie: 2G, 3G, etc and compare those to what US/Sprint uses.
I have the same issues with the GPS. Even when I'm outside, in an open area I can't even get the weather app to update. Not sure how many people have this issue, but it doesn't seem to be a topic of discussion on XDA.

How to enter unlock codes on all Samsung models
Different phones have different Unlock Code Input Instructions, Try the following Instructions in order:
Note: Non Accepted Simcard is any simcard not from the original provider
Method #1 Insert a Non accepted simcard in your phone and power on. Once finished loading your phone will ask you to enter a code, enter the Unlock Code

Method #2 (NOT applicable for newer Samsung phones, ie. Galaxy S3, S4, S5, Note 2, Note 3, etc)
Go to the dial screen on your phone as if you are going to make a call and press: #7465625*638*UNLOCKCODE# (8 digit unlock code)
OR
Method #3 (NOT applicable for newer Samsung phones, ie. Galaxy S3, S4, S5, Note 2, Note 3, etc)
Go to the dial screen on your phone as if you are going to make a call and press: #0111*UNLOCKCODE# (8 digit unlock code)

Go to the dial screen on your phone as if you are going to make a call and press #7465625*638*# Once prompted for code, enter the 8 digit Unlock Code.
When this method is used for newer Samsung phones, it will say "unsuccessful" regardless of the phone being unlocked or not.
Phone Not Allowed MM#6 Tmobile- A clue to problem?
I also have the same problem...it is frustrating.
i have an unlocked AT&T Gear S ( unlocked thru one of the unlock ebay sites. it seemed to go well, and worked)
i setup account with Tmobile, and it worked, i have had it about 2 months, all OK, until..
i took out SIM to test with my unlocked IPHONE 6+, (i have been thinking of switching all my phones to Tmobile) it also worked OK,
Then i swicthed it back into the Gear S, and the trouble started (unless it was a conincidence),
'Phone not allowed MM#6', it tried everything.
1. reset Gear
2.rebooted thru the gear boot menu
-i called Tmobile, they did not have answer,m they asked me to try a new SIM, which i did online and updated account with new SIM,
same problem.
3.Tmo said maybe not complety unlocked to contact AT&T but i doubted this,
4. I tried a freinds SIM from his Iphone 6+ (on Tmo) it worked great in my Gear Sm and my 'unlocked Ipphone 6'
5. i tried my Gear S SIM in my Iphone, message poped up 'Phone not allowed' (this time no MM#6)
6. called Tmo again (maybe 3rd time) suggested another new SIM card, they everything on there end looks fine, they checked imei, sim card etc, all OK.
i told them from what i have read the forums mentioned a network problem, not a phone problem.
They connected with Samsung, they said they can try reflashing the Gear S, if i send it in to them,
7. i called Tmo again, and i spoke one rep who , GAVE ME A CLUE TO PROBLEM.. he found a note concerning the Gear S,
it said if the user puts the Gear S SIM cards (wiith the 'wearable plan') into another phone, it will block the account until the user reinstalls SIM into Gear S.
8. if this the problem, iit is not reseting itself when SIM is back in Gear S.
9. Not sure what to do next.
the last Tmo rep told to go into Tmo store, and they will try another new SIM, and ask them to try new SIM and my in anoother Gear S, but it seems many tmo stores dont have Gear S on hand, only display it am checking.
10. One idea may be to close the whole account and open new account for the Gear S.
did anybody have luck with this problem?

Call tmo back and have them make sure you have the right data plan I had the same problem and mine was on a tablet data plan not mobile/watch plan
I am experiencing a similar issue with TMobile. My thread is in here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/gear-s/help/gear-s-longer-able-to-register-tmobiles-t3040635
I have the factory unlocked international version, SM-R750W, and several people here said it wouldn't work. It worked perfectly for a day, then nothing. New SIM, it worked perfectly again for maybe 5 minutes.

Still no luck, but maybe a couple more clues;
1. As the tech support advised, I went to a Tmo store, and they swapped the nano sim , no help.
2. I put in a sim from my friends tmo iPhone. It seemed great.
3. I called tech support back, they escalated problem to the engineering dept,
Said it may take 2 days to hear back...... So far no luck, please let me know if you have better results.
(I did check the plan online and with support to be sure it was correct.- the wearable / watch plan)
I feel it has something to do with there network 'rejecting' my imeo, but support checked that several times, as said it is correct.

They escalated my situation as soon as I called them on Tuesday and told me 3 days. Nothing yet.
Have you used the Tmobile IMEI check? http://www.t-mobile.com/verifyIMEI.aspx
I just tried it and it doesn't recognize my IMEI....But if that was going to be a problem, shouldn't that have meant it would never work? I can't think of any reason it would work for a day before they shut it off.
I had same result "did not recognize" with there Imei checker, further, the support reps checked several times and said it is Ok, My gear s is an unlocked AT&T, it did work for the first 2 months (until I removed sim to test in my iPhone ( I was considering switching all my phones to Tmo) Maybe coincidence? + But with a friends sim (from his iPhone ) it worked immediately , it even populated the Apn etc settings, but i did not leave on more than 1-2 minutes to test.
When I put my sim back in, it does not register, it does even show phone number, says:
"Phone not allowed MM#6" and emergency calls only.
I had this same issue come up. The way I solved it was to close out the account for my phone number tied to the watch wearable plan. And then I created a new phone account for the wearable plan with a new number. And got a new sim card from T-Mobile at the time of creating the new wearable plan / number. It seems that the phone number that was previously tied to my galaxy gear s was not blacklisted, but the services were limited on it because I had taken the sim card out of the gear s watch and put it into a cell phone to test if there was service on it. So that flagged the wearable phone number account like I was trying to steal data/phone service from T-Mobile by using the only $15 / month plan on an actual phone. Like said above, the services are supposed to be restored once you put the sim back into the watch, but there is a bug with T-Mobile's service in doing so. So in the end, I closed out the "flagged" account, opened a new account and will never put the sim card into a phone again in the future.
same the issue

The same here. I'm from Vietnam. My boss from USA visited Vietnam office and gifted me a T-mobile Gear S with the unlock code from T-mobile. Before unlocking the network, i upgrade it with the latest firmware from T-mobile (R750TUVU1A07). I then inserted a VN carrier SIM and did follow T-mobile guide as below:
After i receive the successful message, i still cant make call or send message. It keep saying that "Mobile network is not available". I tried with 3 nano sim cards from 3 biggest carriers in VN but there is no luck. (These sim cards work well on the iPhone 5).
BTW, the GPS also didn't work, even before or after unlocking with the code. It keep saying "GPS signal too weak. Please connect the Gear to mobile device via Bluetooth" (or something like that).

So, right now, the Gear S is just a digital watch to me, ha ha.
The error is specifically a sim/network error unfortunately and more importantly this;
9 out of 10 times MM6 error means the phone has been reported lost/stolen and the IMEI has been network blocked.
Here are a few options that could be causing most of the issues I have read;
At&t is NOT open and a fan of allowing devices outside their network. Therefore its possible your device is literally reported as lost/and or locked to at&t and they dont want it on T-Mobile. And your best bet is to raise hell threating an investigation by the FCC.
At&t re-locked your device when att sim is put in.

metroPCS LM_Q710ms Unlocking

I have a metropcs LG Stylo 4 with device unlock app installed. I paid a company (unlocklocks.com) to unlock my device and received an email a day later saying unlocking was completed. I tried to use the app to unlock and it read "Your device is network locked at this time........To inquire about your device's unlock eligibility, please continue". So I hit the continue button and a popup comes on that says "Connecting to server, please wait.." I then get a message that says "Device not recognized by your service provider. Please call customer service" I have tried multiple times to contact the unlock company that I used but had no luck. I contacted metropcs and they told me their system shows the device is unlocked. What can I do?
I have the same issue. I think it's something Metro PCS did to prevent unlocking before the 180 days.

I'm using stylo 4 via cricket wireless and I asked about the unlock at time of purchase and they told me that i must have service for 90 days I believe is what I was told and they would unlock it
idk about metropcs but T-Mobile has that same unlock app, which I have still yet to find a way around it, also have you tried to manually set a new apn? I actually had to do so because the stylo 4 js only like 67% compatible which normally is more than enough but in my case it had the slowest net I've seen since 2g. IDK for sure if that would help you but it could trick it I to removing the error

Galaxy A20 APN still locked after network unlock?

New to this, but I'll try to explain the best I can.
I've talked to tech support from my old carrier, my new carrier, and Samsung for about 15 hours total. I'm getting absolutely no where.
I purchased a Samsung Galaxy A20 from Spectrum mobile 3 months ago. I ended my service with them and switched to Red Pocket mobile when they had their black friday / cyber monday sim kit deal.
When I activated and ported my number over to Red Pocket I thought there was an issue with the number port.
But going back and forth with customer service they couldn't figure out what was wrong, as my account was activated and they confirmed that they now owned my phone number.
Eventually I realized my device was still locked with Spectrum. They provided me with an unlock code which did not work. They suggested using the unfreeze code which worked, my device said accepted/unlocked.
Phone works, can make calls and send text messages. However,I cannot access data.
My network operator still says Spectrum, and my Access Point name says charter (Spectrum's APN).
I cannot select the Add button, or the Reset to Default button in Access Point Names.
I took this to mean that my device was still locked since the unlock code did not work.
I thought the unfreeze code was specifically for if you attempt too many unlock codes and it locks you out of making more attempts.
That was my understanding, that the purpose of the unfreeze code is to enable you to make more attempts with the unlock code.
Again, I'm not really sure.
But regardless, Spectrum insists that despite it saying that my device is still locked according to their information, that the only way for it to say unlocked on their end is if i actually connect to my new provider, but that they have done everything on their end and that my device is unlocked and I should be able to connect to my new provider.
FUNNY right... in their records it says my device is still locked, but that that's not really accurate, and that it should be unlocked.
However, I have Red Pocket's SIM in my phone. And I can place and receive calls/texts. Spectrum and Red Pocket both use CDMA, so that makes sense to me. But since I am routing through Spectrum still, and I am unable to Add Red Pocket's Access Point Name in my phone, I cannot connect to Data / LTE.
From what I've explained here, do you all feel like my device is truly unlocked?
What is the best way for me to bypass this? How do I get my phone to switch from Spectrum's Access Point Name to Red Pocket's Access Point Name so that I can access Data/LTE ??
Thank you for taking the time to read my plight, and I appreciate any assistance anyone can give me with this.
I am not sure if attempting to root my phone or messing around with those kinds of settings will fix anything. I am not familiar with how to do that, but I will try anything at this point.
I have the A20 under MetroPCS still locked to their network. I can add APN's to it. So not sure why you are having this problem.

My thoughts exactly. Very strange why I am not able to add APNs.
I talked to a Samsung representative who suggested that it is probably either a software issue or the firmware installed by Spectrum.
When I told the Samsung representative that they assured me that my phone is unlocked (although I don't believe they even know what they're talking about since it is listed as locked in their system), he even went as far as to say that my device may be SIM unlocked, but they may have installed some sort of firmware on their phone that locks the Access Point Name to their server forcing the user to stay with them. Thus the phone will be able to take a new SIM, but it won't do the user any good since the firmware installed on the phone will not allow the user to connect to any other provider's Access Point.
I asked the Samsung representative if it was even legal for them to do that? He said it wouldn't surprise him as corporate giants such as Charter try to monopolize markets. He then went on to tell me that Charter took over as the internet provider in his area about a year ago and no longer has any other internet service providers in his area to choose from.
But again, I don't know if this is actually the case. But does anyone have any thoughts about what is going on or any suggestions as to what other things I can try to do to get connected to my new provider?
A quick update in case anyone in the future is wondering about my issue.
So after talking with another Spectrum customer service representative I have discovered that although my device was SIM unlocked over 2 weeks ago, my device is still carrier locked. They put an initial request for a carrier unlock over 2 weeks ago. Then after calling technical support a few days after that they had put in another request for the carrier unlock. A couple of days ago the representative I talked to went through all of the previous activity logs with my phone and discovered that the carrier unlock kept getting stuck on the end process of unlocking. He opened up another case for me (this will be the fifth ticket created for my account), but I expressed my concerns and doubts with him that it will accomplish anything.
I explained to him that if the issue can not be resolved on their end that I am pretty much out of luck. Since I have discovered on several forums that the Samsung A20 US version cannot be rooted, so there is no way to unlock the bootloader and install Samsung factory firmware to bypass the carrier locked APN on my own. I explained to him that if there was a way for me to do it I wouldn't even be calling, and I would have fixed the issue myself. However, since I am pretty much out of ideas to get my phone to work with my new carrier on my own and Spectrum can't seem to figure out how to carrier unlock my device even though they are LEGALLY REQUIRED to do so, that I am pretty much just about to give up and sell this device as a carrier locked phone on Swappa. He said yeah that's probably what I would do too at this point..
I said LOL, yeah but the problem there is I spent over $200 on this phone that I was only able to use for 2 months, and if I go that route I will likely only be able to get $50 for it.
He said yeah I can understand that that's frustrating, but I really don't see any other options you really have.
They also refuse to provide me with any sort of compensation even though clearly the mistake is on their end.
Bottom line.
NEVER BUY A PHONE FROM CHARTER / SPECTRUM.
Considering their business practices I would never buy phone service / internet service / any service they offer in the future, and would highly advise everyone else from ever purchasing anything from them in the future.
