From my own googling, Im thinking this isnt possible ... but thought Id ask:
What: Can you, directly or with tweaking, run say a larger bare LCD (or OLED!) from something like a stock Galaxy S20 mainboard? Straight from MIPI connector as running HDMI would consume the USB-C port (though might have to be the plan-B) that would be good to preserve for charging and all the other peripherials.
Why: I'm working on a project of my own to make a little gaming system with fast guts (ie headless, no original screen) S20 (SD865) but with a larger, ~8" horizontal OLED or LCD panel and not the phone screen.
I'll design and 3d Print a case and use Nintendo Switch controllers.
thanks

Hello Guys!
I am wondering how difficult would it be today to use our current Android tablets as an head unit in a car????
In the past people have attempted it with okay end result! but today we have very powerful tablets and the best part is they're equipped with USB-C. How hard would it be to use generic backup cameras that are meant for regular head units convert it into an USB input?
I am a car enthusiast and i have few classic cars! I don't want to remove the stock head unit and ruin the look! Instead I can use magnetic mount to hold the tablet!!
I would simply like to have a USB-C dongle underneath the dash to which a usb camera will be connected and also power. The USB-C dongle will connect to the table via USB-C port and provide power and camera input. we can simply press a camera logo on the tablet to get the backup image or figure out a way to place a trigger on reverse lights whenever they're on meaning you put your car in reverse and reverse lights gets 12V so will the trigger and automatically bring up reverse camera image to front on the tablet! I know this isn't an insane idea or most difficult thing to do! But I am willing to fund this project for myself and for the sake to fellow car enthusiast & Non-enthusiast who can benefit from this! Since in todays age reverse cameras are considered safety & mandatory equipment!
Thanks a lot In advance!!

Hello,
I broke my Galaxy s10 screen last week and it show nothing + the touch is not working. I did manage to unlock it using hdmi cable and plugged it in my pc using Dex. from now I was able to control my cellphone from the pc and went to activate the usb debbuging option to backup everything. As soon as I clicked it everything closed down and now I can't see it when I plug it in my pc. I do see it on my pc monitor using type c to hdmi but I only see a locked screen. Even plugged with keyboard and mouse nothing seems to happen ( see photo)
Can someone help me get my **** back ?

Hi all
I am newish to the Android world but have been a programer in the embeded C world and before I start trying to resolve my issue I would like to know if I am just barking up the wrong tree.
I have been trying to replace a very old HP Ipaq 5700 that I use only for GPS purposes with something more modern and a larger screen for some time but although I got close it was not good enough as a replacement, the program I use is Memory map and their version for the Android platform was awful. I purchased a Ruggex Rhino two device that runs Lolipop 5.1 and got to the point where it would run the Memory map software and display the GPS data being sent from my Ublox GNSS receiver via bluetooth and it gave current location, but it was not good enough to use in the field. Memory map have now updated their program so it runs on Android, Windows and Linux and it is a much better user interface but requires Android 6 or later.
So having read about custom ROM's and getting Android updated is it possible to do this to any Android device such as my device bearing in mind it will only be used to receive a Bluetooth signal and run basic apps, no intention of fitting a sim as I need really good battery life.
If this is possible could someone please point me in the right direction, the device already has it's boatloader unlocked.
Thanks Roy

@Spectric2 No problem, Roy. It's good to have you onboard.
I just saw your post by accident. As I don't know how familiar you are with XDA, if you like to make somebody aware of your post you'd have to either mention that member or to reply to his post (what we also call to quote the member). I did both in my post above.

I am new to the realm of Android and especially embedded style devices. I have not disassembled the device yet but I do have photos of the internals with high def photos of only a few devices. The platform is based on a Qualcomm WTR4095 (Transceiver), Qualcomm QFE4320(??), Qualcomm MSM8909 (Snapdragon 210), WCN3610(WiFi, Bluetooth, FM?). It seems similar to structure of the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge from some light googling.
My problem is that the cellular service for this device is no longer supported. My question is, is the SIM data embedded in one of these chips? If it is, how would it be possible (if at all) to get this device working with a new cellular network plan. If the SIM data is not embedded what sort of device on the circuit should I look for and how would I rig in a new SIM?
Let me know if I need to fill in more information but this seemed to be the best place for me to start asking for some guidance on the road ahead!

No worries, thank you for moving it to the correct forum. I will review the guidances for future reference.
I'm not sure if this is the right topic for it.
But I was wondering if I could change the firmware on a cheap (YC-83p) tab.
Got it as a welcome gift from a course I got started. So don't have anny reasons to compain at all.
It doesn't has the greatest specs but it handles some basic stuff pretty well. So it's actually decent for bringing along on vacation or use it as a Home Assisstant controll tab.
It's actually this tab with slightly improved specs. (2GB of RAM instead of 1GB etc.):
Portable 8 inch Android 10 WiFi Tablet - YC-83T | Portworld Manufacturer
2021 New Arrival Portable 8 inch Quad-Core Processor Vertical Display 800*1280 IPS Screen Gms Android 10 1G+16G Android WiFi Tablet
portworld-solu.com
It's actually just fine as it is. But it seems it has some custom firmware onit, at least showing a custom bootscreen of the instution of the course. And I would like to change it if possible.
I searched the internet, but there's actually not much to be found.
So my question is if someone knows how to reflash this kind of devices, or at least change the bootscreen? I would prefer the first option if possible.
Thanks in advance!
edit:
It's running Android (Go edition) 11 btw.

Oh thanks! I already thought it was the incorrect toppic. But it was the best option I could find at the moment.
Totally missed this Android Q&A somehow

Thanks, but I actually don't think it's rooted. Didn't cheked it yet though.
Actually looked for a way to root it, then it would be easier to put custom firmware on it I guess. But there's just verry little to completely nothing to be found of this tablet.
But I asume there must be a way sinse this institution was also able to customize some things.
Some questions:
How locked down is the tablet? Can you access gms services? Can you freely install apks? Are there developer options in settings and does it have the OEM unlock toggle?
Try to install adia64 and 7-zip. What is the processor? If it is mtk, you might be able to temp root your device.
Reviving this as I got this tablet as well and looking for possibilities.
I have posted here about my progress https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/can-we-root-this-tablet.4560407/page-2#post-88355463
Tablet is pretty generic but I don't seem to find any resource about it. Any ideas?
