Hey, since I bought my Pixel 2 Xl, I saw on videos those nav bar burn in and so I've tried both immersive and Tulsadiver Mod, Navbar Gone with Swipe Navigation with Edge Gesture. Immersive is good but it doesn't get rid of the nav bar completely and everytime I Swipe up Navbar gets up so i discarded the Immersive mode.
Then i tried Navbar gone, it worked great until some apps like Google photos crashed randomly. I checked if it was anything installed on my phone but i did a factory image reset and install just Magisk and the mod and it when crashing again.
Looking at my old devices (Nexus 5) and tried to use what i did use back in the day to remove my navbar to use pie and boom! It worked flawless and no crashing with any app. Obviously you need ROOT.
I only tested on stock ROM**
I'M NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING YOU DO WRONG, ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR DATA
REMEMBER TO DOWNLOAD SOME NAVIGATION APP BEFORE DOING THIS.
[YOU NEED ROOT]
1.Download a Build.Promp Editor /I used https://goo.gl/jXvZSu
2. Grant root access and press the edit button
3. Go to the last line press enter (Wich will create a new line)
4. Add this on a new line: "qemu.hw.mainkeys = 1" (without the quotes)
5. Save and reboot.
I'd hope I've helped someone
This isn't really new but I'm sure your post will be helpful to some, nonetheless.
One thing I want to stress is that it is crucial to download and setup an app like Pie Control (Play Store link), Unique Controls (Play Store link), or Gesture Control (Play Store link) prior to disabling your nav bar. Otherwise you'll have no way to navigate around, making downloading and installing one of these nav bar apps after the fact, extremely difficult.
Will this work on any room? For example carbon?

It should work on any ROM. I've personally used this method to disable nav bar on stock as well as Lineage OS, with no issues. Carbon should be fine too.
If you want to do this system-lessly, my magisk module does same thing.

I'd suggest using LMT launcher instead of pie control. Same features but no ads and it's neat

On my P2XL with Pie it works.
Maybe you have to update Magisk to v16.7 (latest one)

Thanks, Works on Stock PIE.
You guys Dan also try the "custom navigation bar" app which will allow you to select invisible icons. Not a perfect solution but it works well.
Very tks
To add my five cents:
Been using Fluid Navigation Gestures application for a while. With the last update before public release it became mature enough to recommend it.
You can disable navbar / it has various options. Try it: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fb.fluid

Thanks you for the tip! Works flawless and looks very nice
doesnt work!!
im on the latest version of stock pie, rooted with magisk.
This just doesnt work for me at all.
Ive tried using a build.prop editor
Ive tried adding it using adb shell, to see if it made a difference.
NOTHING WORKS!!
The magisk module doesnt work.
Any ideas as to why? I dont want to install another 3rd party app.
Ive always just added the build.prop setting, and used pie control from the play store.
HELP!!
(on a funnier note, i just realized that the last time i edited my profile i was using the HD2 as my daily driver)

I had found this sometime ago and couldnt find it again. just found and implemented it.
while this doesnt completely disable it, its definitely better than having the navbar always present. Works with Android P.
it also has instructions on how to hide the status bar, as well.

Works on Android 10! Thanx!
any idea? The stock nv bar is definitely too high for me. Has anyone successfully changed it without using xposed modules?

@Moriatier, you're back! After starting the world-famous V30 Frankenstein thread you just sort of disappeared!
I wrote up the instructions (later in the thread) but you were the one who really started the discussion.
You can use Substratum and even though it's made for Samsung devices, you can use the samsung system mods theme to change the nav bar height. I use it to set mine to zero so I can use gestures instead. But they have other height options in it. Probably best not to mess with any of the other parts in there though since it IS for Samsung devices. Although I got "more animation scales" in settings working too.

Assuming you know how to use Substratum, just install this and set the nav height to the one you want and then reboot

you used the option,,hide navbar,, or just from substrate module did you make navigation 0 and then use gestures.... I ask because my phone is not rooted, i do not have any backup and i do not want to brick my Lg v30.

I believe you can use substratum without root in Oreo. It's been a while but I think I was using it before rooting. It uses a systemless method. Substratum has a fail safe in it where If it detects a problem like system ui keeps force closing so many times, it will disable the overlays and set it back to normal. So there isn't too much of a risk. I got myself in some situations where I couldn't do anything and just got a bunch of force closes but Substratum took care of it. Never had an issue with the Navbar overlay though. If you ever want the navbar back, you just go into Substratum and disable the overlay and reboot.
I'm rooted but the reason I didn't use OnePlus Gestures built in nav bar hide is because it had some minor annoyances. Like when I would unlock my device, the navbar would show for a split second then disappear. So I just felt, for me, it was better to use substratum and get rid of it all together. Although, with this method, you can actually toggle it off and on real quick.

I love that OnePlus gives us the option to use either gesture or three-button navigation. But I wish we had two-button navigation too! It's the best of both worlds! The good news is that it's super easy to enable Two Button Navigation with a super quick and easy ADB command. You will need USB Debugging enabled on your phone and ADB installed on your computer.
ADB Command: adb shell cmd overlay enable com.android.internal.systemui.navbar.twobutton
Check out the video here to see it in action.
If you are on Android 11, the first method will not work. Please watch this video for instructions on how to get Two Button Navigation working on Android 11 (root required):

they were the OnePlus gestures found on the OnePlus 6t that's what I came from and the back was a swipe up from the bottom corner of the left or the right side and then swipe up home was straight up from the center and then recents was swipe up and hold and then you can also jump to your last app that you opened by swiping up and to the right.

So it took me a few minutes to refresh my memory but I figured out what you're looking for! Good news is that I have the answer, bad news is that it's not what you're looking for.
When Google rolled out Android 10 they basically gave OEM's requirements on how the navigation bar had to work. The old implementation you're looking for is OnePlus's take on gesture navigation and Google basically says don't do it. So when they rolled out the OnePlus 7, they got rid of that option.
There might still be a way to enable it, but I haven't found anything yet. If I do, I'll be sure to let you know!
Here's a really good write up that explains the change. https://www.xda-developers.com/google-gesture-navigation-android-10/

FWIW, Google doesn't force OEMs to get rid of their own gesture implementation - they just have to hide it behind one extra Settings layer. For example, on the OPPO Find X2 Pro running ColorOS 7.1, you can still enable the swipe-up gestures (the same one from older versions of OxygenOS) as well as Google's full-screen gestures.

I wish it was a bug! Unfortunately, it's 100% by design. With Android 10, Google basically retired any navigation options that weren't their gesture or three-button options. Manufacturers can still include their own options but they have to do it in a submenu and can't use the Google framework files for it. They basically have to repack a bunch of files to get their stuff in the right spot on the menus, to get the overlay to work correctly, and then they have to still push the Google options as the default. It's just not cost-effective for OnePlus (or any manufacturer other than maybe Samsung) to use another option now. This method worked because OnePlus already had the work done on the framework, they just didn't update the menu to show their navigation options. With Android 11, there was enough of a rebase going on that they didn't go through the effort of adding it back in. But hey, this is XDA. I'm sure we'll see some mods in the future that will bring it back though!
