Please recommend an Android file manager - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm looking for a simple but flexible file manager type app for android. I use Files-by-Google predominately to scan and view images and videos so I specifically do not select "show hidden files" because I don't want Files-by-Google to ignore .nomedia files. Plus even if you do select "show hidden files" Files-by-Google shows Android>data and Android>obb as empty when these directories are clearly full of stuff when viewed over USB from the PC.
Because of this I've basically been using the Storage entry under Settings (Settings>Storage) as my default file manager. If I "show hidden files" in Storage I see the same directory structure that I see from the PC over USB. However I could not use Storage to move a set directories that had been placed in Internal_Storage>Documents from the PC over USB to where they belonged in Internal_Storage>Android>data>com.ngc.fora>files>Documents. In order to move the data to where it needed to be I had to use the PC over USB.
I'm looking for a simple but flexible android file manager that will show me everything that's there and nothing that's not with the ability to delete, copy and move files and directories to and from anywhere on the device. Also I would hope to be able to examine and traverse the entire directory structure in both the Internal_Storage space and any SD_card present. Also I refuse to use any type of cloud storage so an app that's overly bound to one cloud storage service or another is probably not the best choice.
Thank you for any suggestions.

I'm using two file managers for my android devices:
Dateimanager+
File Manager - Apps on Google Play
Fast, easy-to-use and full-featured file manager app with cloud integration.
play.google.com
X-plore
X-plore File Manager - Apps on Google Play
X-plore is dual-pane file manager with tree view, LAN/Root/Clouds and more.
play.google.com
Dateimanager+ is very clear and easy to use, X-plore can do a bit more for that. Both should be able to do what you're looking for....

Thank you for the suggestions. I'll check them out.

It is open source, no ads, lightweight, uses Material design 3(android 12 with color pallete), and isn't relient on any cloud storage (but does have ftp, sftp, and smb support). It also allows you to host an ftp server from your phone so you can send files to another device.
However, it does not automatically add external storage(I've opened an issue on github), but you can easily add one from the side menu.

[Software]Useful PC apps for Android Devs and Owners

First of all, I am not developer of these softwares. I found them over xda and web and thought to share with all of you, in all good intentions.
ADB Mask Controller
Dev- Mask-1
App info-
• push, pull, install apps and transfer between System <=> User apps and between SD <=> Device
• remove & uninstall apps, clean data from deleted apps and delete orphan files
• change min & max CPU frequency (from available steps)
• view and edit: gps.conf, Hosts, build.prop, hw_config and media_profiles.xml
• view and kill running processes
• zipalign
• keyboard functionality
• search files / folders
• push and pull Bootanimation, framework-res and Framework jar files
• clean cache & temp folders and application data cache
• Enable Market to show paid apps
• Create phone log (logcat, dmesg)
• View device info
• mount r/w and mount r/o (for system) function
• and others.
It's better to backup your data before Zipaligning, because some launchers don't work correctly when they are zipaligned, causing a reboot loop.
To launch the tool
*unzip the package
*run "ADB Mask Controller.exe"
*connect your phone (enable USB debugging)
*If this is the first time you use this tool click on "Check root access and busybox". If you are sure that your phone is rooted and the tool says otherwise, make sure that your phone allows the program to have SuperUser access.
*Busybox is required in order to use this tool. If you get the result "NO" next to the Busybox Version then you must push/install it on your phone.
Hints for Wireless connection:
- To connect your phone by wireless you must install and turn on adbWireless, adb over Wifi or another similar app
- Wireless connection is slower than USB connection. It is not recommended to do advanced tasks using wireless since the connection can be interrupted more easily than USB connections.
- The display must be turned on while connected with wifi (or a wakelock must be enabled through an app e.g. Waketimer) in order to prevent the cpu from going to sleep mode while it's working with wireless adb.

[APP][SHARE][2.3+] DuoFM Holo File Browser

Note : I'm just sharing the work of the XDA Member uncopt. Here's a little introduction by him :
Duo: Holo File Manager w/ Root (DuoFM for short, formerly UNCOPT File Browser), aims to be your go-to app for everything file-related on your android device.
It is similar to Windows Explorer or Mac finder on your computer. Just like them, it can be used to access files on the device, and also to browse the files on your network or on cloud services.
DuoFM combines the features of the popular file managers (like Astro, ES Explorer, Solid Explorer, ...) and root explorers.
Its main focus points are:
1) design : The application fits perfectly within the modern android holographic (Holo) style that was introduced with Android 4 (Ice Cream Sandwich or ICS). It looks and feels as if it was one of the apps bundled with the core of android, and follows Google design guidelines perfectly.
2) security: unlike many other explorers, we never create any intermediate copies that could be accessed by other apps, not on the filesystem and not in memory. We support opening / sending / copying files of any size, without requiring any space left on the internal or external storage. This is true for all directories: local, remote (over the network or in the cloud), or inside archives. We stream the data to the target directory or application.
The various storage areas (internal memory, sdcards) are automatically detected, including On-The-Go (OTG) USB attachments when available. No user specification is required.
Access to files not located on the device or its attachements is done through plugins. This separation is done to keep the main application small and to let users decide what extra feature to install. The available plugins are listed in the settings.
So far, the following plugins are available (and free):
- LAN: to give access to the local network shares (windows, SAMBA or SMB).
- FTP(S) & SSH2
- Google Drive
- SkyDrive
- Dropbox
When superuser (root) is enabled, partitions can be automatically remounted in rw, and permissions (including suid, guid and sticky bits), group and owner can be changed easily.
We also developped a sdk that allows users to create their own plugins.

Android 12 (Realme UI 3.0) Problems

Last night I upgraded My Realme 7 pro from Android 10 (Realme UI 1) to Android 12 (Realme UI 3.0).
Now the problems I'm facing :-
Whatsapp Folder moved to %internal%/Android/media/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp; After upgrading Whatsapp shows that there are no media files (Documents, Audio, Video, Photos). A new option pops up (Migrate Media for Android 11+). Select it, select old WhatsApp Folder (%internal%/WhatsApp). It took 6 hours to migrate all media (14.6 GB total), on top of that it changed all media files creation date to "Today", so now I cant sort by date/time.
I used to have ".nomedia" file in whatsapp "Media" folder so nothing was shown in any photo viewer app (any gallery app), after migrating I noticed everything is shown in gallery. Created .nomedia in "%internal%/Android/media/com.whatsapp/WhatsApp/Media" and it got deleted instantly. Cant create .nomedia in Media folder.
List of folders which can be hidden by .nomedia:-
1. Media/.Links
2. Media/.Statuses
3. Media/Private
4. Media/Wallpaper
5. Media/WhatsApp Animated Gifs
6. Media/WhatsApp Profile Photos
7. Media/WhatsApp Stickers
8. Any "Private" and "Sent" folders
List of folders which CANNOT be hidden by .nomedia (.nomedia file is deleted instantly, just like Android "Downloads" folder)
1. Media
2. Media/WhatsApp Audio
3. Media/WhatsApp Documents
4. Media/WhatsApp Images
5. Media/WhatsApp Video
6. Media/WhatsApp Voice Notes
Does someone know any workaround for this. I tried 3 different file managers (Files (Stock android), Files by Google, MiXplorer). Tried copying .nomedia from other folders - does not work. Tried creating .nomedia - does not work. Tried a few gallery apps to hide folders - does not work. I can only exclude these folders in some gallery apps from scanning, but it still visible in all other gallery or file managers (Files by Google shows "WhatsApp Images/Videos" on the first screen).
I know its not WhatsApp problem. It was working yesterday on Android 10.
I'm willing to root my phone if necessary.
