[TWRP][S905X3] TWRP 3.3.1 for H96 Max X3
This is the round black box with a purple-blue dolphin, and "H96 Max 8K ultra HD" written on top. Bottom says H96 Max Model: X3 CPU: S905X3 OS:Android 9.0 RAM: 4GB ROM: 32GB
Note: there's always a risk of bricking/breaking your device. Make sure power cable is securely plugged before flashing ZIPs or IMGs. I highly recommend backing up your stock rom first as replacements can be hard to find for these generic boxes.
See the attached zip file, unzip it to get recovery.img
Instructions:
1. Create a bootable SD card with Amlogic Bootcard maker / Burn card maker
2. Copy recovery.img to the root of the SD card, do not rename it.
3. With power cord disconnected, Insert SD card in android box TF slot.
4. Use a toothpick to gently hold the button deep inside the AV port.
5. Keep holding the AV button and connect the power cord.
6. Keep holding button until TWRP appears on screen.
7. Swipe right to allow modifications
Optional steps for permanent TWRP:
1. Plug in a USB mouse and click Backup
2. Under "select partitions for backup" make sure they don't say "0MB" If they do then there is a problem and you shouldn't continue.
3. (Recommended) backup all the partitions here to an SD card or flash drive and keep a second copy somewhere safe, especially Recovery
4. Go back to the main menu with back(bottom left), and select Install.
5. Go to Select Storage then select Micro SD card
6. Click install image and recovery.img should appear
7. Click Recovery, then swipe the blue rectangle to the right, don't do anything until you see IMAGE FLASH COMPLETED

Alternatively to the Burn Card Maker, you could flash an Amlogic Lakka/Emuelec image to the SD card with Balena Etcher and delete everything off the 1st partition, then copy recovery.img

Tip: Make sure your SD card has a single Primary (not Logical) partition with no space before it or TWRP won't see it.
Here is another recovery image with a line added in /etc/mesondisplay.cfg to fix TWRP taking up half the screen.
Is this twrp also compatible with other boxes which usw the S905X3 processor?
I use the beelink GT Mini 2, for example.
Thanks in advamce and kind regards

I don't have one to test it, but what I'd do is run it from an SD card if you're making backups to test it. Sometimes the device names in recovery.fstab (a file inside the recovery image) will differ between manufacturers, so TWRP may not see your SDcard or android partitions
Its work with h96 max x4 android 11 ?

The whole adventure or rather misadventure began when I rooted my huawei ideos s7 tablet.
It went well after several tries with various tools starting from universal root, z4root and ginger break, last one being successfull.
The I started installing variety of those softwares from titanium to what not, and tried to save the rom which ended up in rebooting the device. But to my shock the device wont boot. It would start booting and then repeat the same screen logo again and again. Yes!!!!my poor tablet have been bricked.
But this post is on how to unbrick in such cases which I have just done.
1. take out the battery, sim card, sd card and unplug from any power source. (make sure battery has sufficient charge)
2. format the sd card to a fat system in a computer ( not android) using a sdcard adapter
3. download the dload. rar file from this link
http://www.mediafire.com/?9l52jhbl7b09czp
4.unrar using winrar/ 7zip and make sure the folder is dload with three files .cfg, .app, .log
5. now copy the folder to the formated sdcard
6. now insert the card into battery less tablet and then replace battery and power supply if needed
7. then a bar appears and update process starts. wait till bar gets full and OK appears
8. then remove battery and repeat 6 and 7 again
9. now remove the battery and then the sd card
10. reapply the battery and start the tablet
that is it.
we have the updated 2.2.2 Rom
This update has been confirmed to work with:
S7-103, Indonesian version with dual cameras internal/external sdcard
S7-104, US BestBuy/RadioShack version with dual cameras and internal/external sdcard
S7-105, Australian version with dual cameras and external sdcard
ive done every root method and still nothing can someone help

Using a new SDCard (not one you have info stored on) make a new MSDOS partition table and add a 50 MB FAT32 partition as the first primary partition. Then make sure you enable to boot and lda flags.
Any SDCARD larger than 50 MB should work but I used an extra 2GB laying around. You can add other partitions to the card if you want, but it is not necessary to allocate the entire card. Any added partitions would need to be manually mounted on your Nook anyway.
I used GParted on my Ubuntu machine to do this but any formating tool should work.
2. Copy Files onto SDCard
You can grab the files I used here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?dr6bqau194389te
Just UnZip the files directly to the root of the boot partition you created above (make sure flashing_boot.img, u-boot.bin, and boot.img are on the root not the folder SDCARD)
3. Insert SDCARD into NT
Now, with your NT powered off, eject the SDCARD you just created from your computer and insert it into the tablet. Then just turn it on and VOLA! You should now be in CWM!
Symptoms:
With the SDcard (from above) inserted and the NT powered on, the NT shows a black screen for about 3 minutes, and then boots the internal memory.
Removing MLO from the SDcard causes normal NT internal memory booting, so clearly the NT boot process is looking at the correct place on the SDcard (note that the MLO for 1.4.0 and 1.4.1 are identical).
So, unless I am doing something really stupid, there's something different between the two NTs I've owned. Note that "bauwks" had a problem booting from the SDcard, unless he had the USB cable connected, but others have not seen that symptom.
I rooted my NT 16GB by following this post and it worked well:

thamks for the rely but ive tried that already
So you wrote all the files you unzipped from the download to the sdcsrd, inserted the SD into your Nook and rebooted...do you get the box when you reboot?
Just checking, you're holding down both the power button and "n" button when powering on the tablet?

This is too complicated, really.
Just got a used NT16. Previous owner factory restored. Downloaded img file from:
[SD Root] Make 16 or 8GB Nook Tablet Root SD Cards by Albert Wertz [SDNT16or8gbV4.7]
No instructions on how to mount image to SD card for Mac (it says just google it...)
Google did not turn up a clear result.
So I finally Googled the right query: how to burn an ISO on a USB drive on Mac OS X
And in turn gave me this - how to mount the image:
"Directly from the Ubuntu download page (my formatting):
Download the desired file
Open the Terminal (in /Applications/Utilities/ or query Terminal in Spotlight)
Convert the .iso file to .img using the convert option of hdiutil (e.g., hdiutil convert -format UDRW -o ~/path/to/target.img ~/path/to/ubuntu.iso)
Note: OS X tends to put the .dmg ending on the output file automatically. Remove the .dmg extension as necessary, mv ~/path/to/target.img{.dmg,}
Run diskutil list to get the current list of devices
Insert your flash media
Run diskutil list again and determine the device node assigned to your flash media (e.g. /dev/disk2)
Run diskutil unmountDisk /dev/diskN (replace N with the disk number from the last command; in the previous example, N would be 2)
Execute sudo dd if=/path/to/downloaded.img of=/dev/rdiskN bs=1m (replace /path/to/downloaded.img with the path where the image file is located; for example, ./ubuntu.img or ./ubuntu.dmg).
Using /dev/rdisk instead of /dev/disk may be faster.
If you see the error dd: Invalid number '1m', you are using GNU dd. Use the same command but replace bs=1m with bs=1M.
If you see the error dd: /dev/diskN: Resource busy, make sure the disk is not in use. Start the 'Disk Utility.app' and unmount (don't eject) the drive.
Run diskutil eject /dev/diskN and remove your flash media when the command completes
Restart your Mac and press Alt while the Mac is restarting to choose the USB stick"
So.........
I followed the instructions to a tee. I am using a 128 MB SanDisk micro SD card.
I inserted the card in my Nook and powered it off. Put the USB cable in and after many minutes the Nook turned on. All it did was power on like normal. Once, I removed the SD card while nothing was happening (waiting for boot). Intermittently (as a result?), I was unable to turn Nook on at all, thinking it was bricked. So, I tried the SD card again, and again after several minutes it turned on. Have removed the card now and Nook works like normal again.
So, I have a 16GB Nook Tablet with 1.4.3 and would like to root it AND flash Android which may require who knows how many sd cards and various recovery modules. I would like to say I love learning how to do all of this, except these instructions are always written by developers FOR developers. Perfect example is the Bishop of Technology. One page leads to another and then another. There is no definitive answer to be found on his site. My favorite part is where he says "now take out the boot card and insert ("vague") custom ROM. And then says, now you might want to backup (using CWM). This is all on the page for installing Jellybean on 1.4.3. The whole page is a mish-mash of vagueness and redirection. That is why I tried installing directly from XDA instead.
But, like I said, I was unsuccessful. And I'm not willing to risk trial and error or spend another four hours digging around trying to find the meaning of every instruction. How hard is it to go into a bit more detail and include links every time appropriate. (insert custom ROM - this is vague and no link is shown for downloading the custom ROM.)
Should I get a 2GB sd card so I can install 142 (500MB) first?
Maybe rdisk was to fast and corrupted the image?
Maybe try this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494367

Please forgive me and point me to the correct board to post this if I am in the wrong place.
I recently procured what I believe to be a generic/chinese MID Tablet PC.
As far as I can tell, it's either a Rockchip 2918sdk or 2818sdk, or at least something similar.
It is a 7 inch tablet with power, volume up and down buttons. A headphone jack, HDMI port, USB connection, DC-5V charging port and a TF CARD slot for a micro SD Card. There is a camera on the front and a speaker on the back.
The label on the back states:
MODEL: 703H(B-2)
SOFTWARE: 4.04
POER:R-X-X-9-17
8GB

I was able to attain root but without thinking, I replaced the stock boot images/movies. Now when it boots, it forever continues to play the boot movie.
I gained entry to the stock recovery which is labeled "Android system recovery <3e>" "Recovery system v4.01"
With the volume keys and power button I can choose any of the seven options, yet none seem to help my boot loop issue.
The options include:
reboot system now
apply update from external storage
wipe date/factory reset
wipe cache partition
apply update from cache
recovery system from backup
update rkimage from /sdcard

The ways in which I believe I could repair the system are as follows.
1. Somehow access the onboard system memory with a file manager or through some other method, then delete the bootup/shutdown image movies.
2. Us and update script written and designed to delete these bootup movies from the recovery/flash menu (which I would have no idea how to accomplish)
3. Flash a original firmware image, (which I do not have)
Any ideas are welcome, thanks for your help!
I have a weird one. I have rebuilt my Nook and followed the directions about how to make the SDcard active, the flag is correct and everything. It will load the loader if I power it on via a powered USB cable but when I try to power it off and back on without the cable, it goes directly into the original nook tablet OS. Any suggestions on how to fix this issue?

You're not the only one. This seems to be a common issue between newer (or was it older?) model Nooks.

On my previous build - Cyanomod 10 - Jelly Bean, I didn't have this issue. I just lost that memory card and tried it again and get the boot issue.

now it seems u know the steps already but im reposting in case u missed something.....i had the same problem. i found that some NT's only respond to this exact file that i will provide. use my files in this step and get back to me. REMEMBER TO READ ALL STEPS I PROVIDED IN CASE U FORGOT SOMETHING
step1- download (https://www.mediafire.com/folder/dd1cwv3uw0u18/NOOK TABLET) <<-----sdboot.zip and cwm.zip
step2-download minitool partition wizzy
step3-put sd card into computer
step4-using minitool, delete partition, create partition (make primary, and fat32), right click on sd card (usually F set flag to active and change partition ID type to 0x0c fat32lba and then click apply. (IN THAT ORDER)
step5-once parted copy from the sdboot attatchment provided to sd card, the recovery.img, MLO,flashing_boot, and u-boot. Also put the cwm emmc.zip provided as well into sdcard.
step6-put sd into nook, MAKE SURE NOOK OFF BEFORE U PUT IT IN OR U WILL HAVE TO DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN, then plug nook into computer via usb cord, be patient and wait for nook to boot, once it finally boots, U MUST BE VERY QUICK AND PRESS "N" THE SECOND CYANOBOOT POPS UP, GO TO SDC RECOVERY NOT INTERNAL RECOVERY. that will load up sd cwm, once it is up it will now let u install the cwm i provided. install it.
step7-once this is done unplug it from comp, turn off, and repeat steps 3-6 (BUT THIS TIME ADD THE CYANOGENMOD 10.+ YOU WANT TO USE IN THE SD CARD AS WELL ALONG WITH THE CORRECT GAPPS) once sd cyanoboot pops up choose internal recovery instead of sdc recovery. install cm10+, gapps, and the internal cwm emmc.zip i gave u as well for good measure.
step8- once done take out sd card and reboot regularly with/without usb doesnt matter. u should be good...........it seems like alot but its actually rly fast when u got the hang of it.
Hello, I rooted my ICOO iCou D70G2 and managed to softbrick it into a loop at the Android messages. I bought another, identical tablet, and would now like to clone the new one into the old. I would very much appreciate complete, newbie level instructions on how this can be done.
Here is what I have tried so far.
I looked for a stock ROM for this device, but can't find one. The closest out there I could locate is for a D70Pro II. I don't know if it will work, and in any case, I still can't figure out how to flash the old tablet.
The old tablet does go into recovery mode using vol up and power. I tried putting the Pro II flash on the micro sd card (tried both img and zip, separate times), but the tablet isn't seeing the micro sd card in recovery mode with the update from sd card option. It shows a folder /sdcard with some seemingly empty subfolders, but even if I take out the micro sd card it shows the same set of folders and says choose a package.
I tried using the Intel USB drivers with adb, but the device isn't recognized in recovery mode by adb. Rockchip Batch Tools 1.8 also doesn't see the device, although it seems to load the ProII img file correctly.
It would be really great to get this old tablet to work. I don't have any CWM, TWRP or any other backup software on either device at this point. The new device is new from the box and not rooted.
