I got the OTA upgrade to Android 12... and it killed my phone (SM-T865 model). The toggle switch for VoLTE that was there in Android 11 is gone. I understand Samsung did this intentionally. And since all carriers here in the US have disabled 3G calling, I'm screwed.
Is there a fix for this problem (other than going Skype or something such)?
I resolved this issue by downgrading back to Android 11 (using Odin). It sucks, but at least my tablet has all its functionality.
I paid good money for this tablet. I bought it specifically because it could make phone calls. I did not appreciate Samsung removing that functionality out of the blue and without informing users. F*** Samsung!!! I will think twice before buying a Samsung product again.

I'm pretty new to both rooting and this website, so I apologize in advance for any newbie mistakes I'm gonna make.
Background:
I have a VS-996 which frankensteined and unlocked by following this post . After doing that I flashed pie and then flashed lineage os from here . That rom wasn't very stable and kept crashing, so I tried others. I wound up going with Havoc OS. I believe it was in 3.4 when I first flashed it. I've kept up with the updates up to 3.7.
The Problems:
Havoc OS works fine for me, very stable, except for some reason phone calls and messages(both sms and MMS) are spotty at best. Sometimes texts won't send at all, or they'll act like they sent but the text won't be recieved. Sometimes my phone will say I can make emergency calls only. Group messages and sending pictures don't seem to work at all, at any time. These issues seem most prevalent immediately after booting my phone up. Data works perfectly except sometimes when the phone doesn't like to register that the SIM is inserted for a little bit after booting up.
What I've tried:
I've tried reinstalling the rom.
I've tried installing different Android 10 roms.
I've tried going through the process again starting at the the Frankenstein method and going from there.
I've tried messing with the apn
If I flash back to a stock pie ROM everything goes back to working perfectly, and I'm using my sim in my old V20 while I try to sort this out, so I know the SIM is not to blame.
I've been unable to find anybody else with this particular problem, though that could just be because the problems cover so many different aspects that I'm not sure exactly how to search for answers.
Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Are you Verizon customer? You say you have VS996.
There's an LOS ROM bug for Verizon SIM card users where upon rebooting the phone you have to make a phone call first to then receive texts. This phone call "registers" the SIM card or whatever. Many people call their voicemail number to satisfy this requirement.
This bug affects all LOS-based ROMs.
Yes I am a verizon customer. I had noticed that making a phone call seemed to help things along when messages wouldn't send. I guess I managed to let my phone die or turn it off enough to hide the fact that it fixed me. Giving it a test just now it seems to be working correctly. I don't know if I'll be happy or mad if the solution turns out to be this simple.

Was noted extensively on LOS-16 ROMs, but not discussed as much with LOS-17 (Android 10) ROMs. But earlier this month someone in the Havoc 3.7 (LOS-17 based) thread did bring it up...

Would anyone happen to know a fix for the having to make a call on verizon to receive incoming calls/text messages-
It's the main thing preventing me from running any android 10 rom. Have an unlocked (True) US998

I don't know of a fix, but, I always called my voice mail to get it to work. I haven't been on a custom room for a little while. I assume that still works, though.

However, the larger problem is in six months you will not be able to use LOS-based custom ROMs with V30 on Verizon.
* As of December 31, 2020 Verizon is dropping 3G CDMA to repurpose bandwidth for 5G.
After that date, to make any phone calls on Verizon you will need VoLTE. No LOS-based custom ROMs have VoLTE. You will need stock Verizon firmware. It can be rooted stock firmware; you can use Magisk modules to add features -- but needs to be Verizon firmware for VoLTE.
* T-mobile users are in the same predicament.
In January 2021, T-mobile will be dropping 3G HSPA for same reasons. T-mobile users will need VoLTE, which only comes with V30 stock firmware. However, T-mobile is less stingy. They also allow US998 firmware to have VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling with T-mobile SIM. Whereas Verizon requires Verizon stock firmware, and it needs to have been activated on a phone with Verizon IMEI at some point.
* AT&T will also eventually drop 3G HSPA -- but not until February 2022 (18 months from now).
So, for U.S. V30 owners who wish to run custom ROMs a little longer, you should check out AT&T Prepaid. It's a lot cheaper than "regular" AT&T, but is only for people who own their phones.
18 months is a long time. Anything can happen in 18 months!
AT&T only gives VoLTE to AT&T IMEI phones, as well as iPhones and some other phones I would never own. I've never used an AT&T branded phone on AT&T. I'm an AT&T customer with three native US998 for myself, my wife, my mother -- so I'll cross that bridge when I come to it in February 2022. Will probably give my mother an AT&T V35. Maybe my wife, too. Also, LG may get their act together and produce a good phone fro the LG V70 or LG V80.
Any Verizon, T-mobile (and Sprint), and AT&T MVNOs (Straight Talk, Ting, etc.) will also be affected by these decisions.
I have a more extensive discussion of this issue here:
All U.S. V30/V3O+/V30S will need stock firmware, not LOS-based custom ROMs. When?

i just bought me niece a new LG K10 2017 M250K cellphone (she wanted the older model, but it's a new phone).
she can't get out out of 2G even tho it should do 4G. she does everything... text, email, youtube videos... via the network, and it's performing badly. were trying to figure out if it's a setting it if it's a bum phone.
it's a dual sim, so we are trying to switch sim bays, turn airplane mode on/off, reset network settings, hard re-boot, etc.
any tips or tricks? the t mo guys can't figure it out...
Did you customize the phone at all before this issue appeared or was it like this out of the box?
If so, it may be an issue with her data plan (some cheaper plans offer only 2G), otherwise it may indeed be an issue with the phone itself. If it's new I suggest to bring it back to the store and have it replaced

unfortunately, it was bought at a website with a no return policy....
AFAIK the choice is made by your device; it’s the device that decides which band needs to be used.
As title states how can I get around AT&T stupid cross platform messaging block. Absolutely stupid. Samsung does not offer an unlocked version of this tablet forcing you to buy it through a carrier and AT&T locks out key features. Which is absolute crap. Apple is allowed to sync there devices no problem why not us? How can I get around this???
IDK if you still need help. I'm not sure what phone you are using, but I was able circumvent it. I have a Note 20 Ultra from AT&T as well and a wifi only Tab s7+. I was able to load a U1 Firmware onto my Note (This will wipe the phone). I can now sync call and messages. It still doesn't want to work over mobile all the time, but if they are on the same wifi, or if my phone is on a wifi network and the S7+ is connected to the Auto Hotspot from my phone, it works pretty well. Here's the link to the U1 FWs for the Note 20 Ultra. https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/ota-and-non-ota-firmware-for-n986u-and-n986u1.4143833/
I can't attest to this working on the Carrier version of the S7+ though. Hope you can find something helpful here.
Best of luck.
Good day,
I am a proud owner of a LG V20 H910 AT&T for about four years now.
Bought it back in early 2018 refurbished from ebay for about US$185.
I got very good service from this, I learned alot about roms, scripts, etc...
these are the issues I faced...
Very recently, phone started turning off when the battery is around or below 40%
After further investigation and cleaning the contacts, the battery seems to be swollen slightly.
Sometimes I can run it until below 20% until it powers down.
Lately I see it takes a long time to charge from this point.
The phone mic stopped working and gives of static noise/feedback to other caller until you switch to speakerphone then it works fine. This is for mobile calls and whatsapp/duo.
The headphone jack seems to short and stop music and activate google assistant every now and again.
This doesn't happen to all headphones, only some. If you don't move the phone or the cable, it works fine.
Download mode loads, but you get static on screen, tried reflashing with my stock and others but same.
Other than these problems, I totally love my v20 and it is still going.
I wanted to buy either a v50/v60/G8x.
I see LG is no longer making V series.
I like to tinker with mods and roms, what do you recommend
my max budget is ~US$220 and I see I can get these on ebay.
The main thing i like about my v20 is the dac, I use the force high impedance mode as I use it as a music player in my car's Hi-Fi. Is this possible on these units?
I want to go for the v60, what version TMO, Verizon, AT&T?,
I am on Digicel in Trinidad & Tobago. so this doesn't matter but what is the best version to buy for unlocking and future mods/dev.?
I remembered when I got the AT&T version of my v20, it never came with the Music app, and I only recently solved that issue.

Personally I went with the U.S. Cellular unlocked version.Or,you can go with the T-Mobile version.Prefer it be unlocked, and the reason I say those 2 is because at least the firmware is downloadable unlike the AT&T version. But,there is a Qfil copy of the AT&T version in the Q&A post. From my readings they're all IMPL locked and I haven't found away around that yet.
I would like to know too. coming from a v40 that i bought for $300 and it lasted 4 years... I hope to do a similar run with the v60.
Not too worried about updating past android 11. But it does kinda suck the security updates stop at June 2021. My v40 is stuck at 8/20, and I'm already noticing some apps dont work with Biometric anymore.
It took many years before the v40 was finally moddadable to lineage... and I'm sure someone will figure out the v60, but I also worry that WIFI calling won't work if it ever gets lineage.
That said, if I am on ATT, and want to use WIFI calling, I should buy an ATT branded model, correct? If I buy a global model, and run it on ATT, it likely won't work with WIFI calling?

Yes,if you're on AT&T most definitely get the AT&T branded v60.With my V60 USC device it wouldn't make or receive any calls when the 3g shutdown hit.I had to cross flash my V60 with a Luns backup and that's the only way it would dial in and out again.I even went in to the engineering menu and enabled all the settings perfect for VoLTE and it still wouldn't call out. It's not IMEI specific either.I'm still trying to figure a work around for it,but nothing as of yet.
Ok. I just bought the lm-600am version
Hi everybody. I'm new here. It looks like this is the place where the battle is raging against the poorly handled 3g sunset from AT&T. I need your wisdom and guidance.
Background: March/April 2022- I was on AT&T prepaid with an LG G8 G820UM, happy as a clam until The Sunset happened and I could no longer make phone calls. Spent a good chunk of time in the AT&T store and on the phone with customer service but no one could get it to work even though it was on the approved list. Finally gave up and had to change devices because I needed a phone. Ended up getting another LG phone (because they are great) LG V60 ThinQ LM-V600AM. This worked out of the box with the AT&T prepaid sim card on android 10 for months with no problems. I switched to Red Pocket in September, partially because I was still salty with AT&T and the terrible way they handled The Sunset, and that sim card worked fine as well. 5G, calls, texts, everything. Until yesterday... *dun dun dun*
Somehow I was forced to update to Android 11 via a pushed software update from AT&T. Sadly this broke VoLTE and calling on my V60. Tried rolling thru all the rest of the updates available and got up to Android 12 V600AM30d. No luck. Still no VoLTE. Tried messing around with the Hidden Menu. No luck either. So now I'm looking at the possibility of doing some sort of rollback to Android 10, or some sort of Crossflash on the V60 (or on the G8).
What I want to know is: Who has actually gotten their LG V60 or LG G8 to work properly with VoLTE reliably in 2022?? What carrier?? What software flash?? And most importantly, how do I replicate it? Tell me your success story. Mine is a story of failure and clinging to LG because I like their phones but AT&T apparently doesn't lol.
Thanks for listening.
Yeah it's a crap. ATT dialer is locked down and so is BAND service menu. Something not right w/ Phone info prob b/c ATT lock down hoodoo. I'm on LMV600AM30c A12 Sept2022 and had to edit build.prop . set ro.telephony.default_network=26,11 (26=NR/5G,LTE,GSM,CDMA & 11=LTE Only) for T-mobile. On stock ROMs seems no 5G. I debate if it's truly avail but got 42.xxM on LTE this morning. I think I am going to go back to GSI ROMS. It's PIA 2 erase data every flash. Shame can't share or split /data & switch between slots. GSI actually worked better! There is a thread for restoring . I cross flashed to T-mobile and was fine. Updated & screwed everything up bad. This uses QFIL & "LUN" backups or chunks. IMO think LG would release more tools or remove damn region locks. My savior was here:
LMV600AM Restore/Ugrade Guide
This restore process is intended for the AT&T V60 (lmv600am) model and will WIPE your data so back it up if you want to keep it! This process will restore the lmv600am to original factory state for the AT&T v60 v20q build (a11). I’ve dumped all...
