There is no native double tap to wake on this phone.

There was! 4 days ago i could wake the screen with double tap..now it's 1 tap only
WTF

Not seeing it anywhere that I'm looking. Where was that option?

If you double tap it just feels like it works even though it's the first tap that activates the screen

Also noticed something today the tap to wake won't work in the following cases:
1. Strong light.
2. covering the top of the screen.

the covering of the top of the screen is intended to stop it from turning on in your pocket

by mean covering, not even touching the screen, also happens in strong lignt

[Q] Button Backlight Notification

Hi
Since there is yet again no notification LED on the SGS2 i was wondering if a Button Backlight Notification like for the original SGS is in the works.
thank you
NoLed already works
I think OP asked for a Button Backlight Notification, not a screen LED notification. If there were application which could allow to glow the touch sensitive buttons (Menu & Back) then it would be great.

NoLed has such an option. Besides, it's not important since the app has an option to shut the display off when the proximity sensor feels something close by (like when the phone is in a pocket or bag).

Oops! Didn't find that option, can you please tell me where it is? And also is there a way to turn the screen LED notification Off?
It's under 'Battery saving features', there's a check box for Dismiss with Proximity Sensor.

Thanks, but if I check that box only the screen goes off with a small red box moving on the screen but the Touch sensitive buttons are not glowing!

Yeah, I meant the second bit (about turning the display off in your pocket or whatever) and even then I think I meant the check box below, sorry - feeling a bit scrambled today.
I'm after something that will light up the touch buttons too

Hmm.......
I've looked that up but I can't find this feature. It looks like I've mixed things up with some forum posts, like: http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-730692-p-10.html
"The Menu and Back capacitive buttons also light up with screen notification. This has increased battery drain significantly."

Actually the option is "Proximity Sensor" just bellow "Dismiss with Proximity Sensor".

[Q] Double tap to wake screen

Is "double tap to wake screen" available for Z2? This post [*1] says it's included in 4.4. My Z2 is with 4.4.2, but I can't find the setting to turn it on.

i find the double tap so frustrating ! i would say 9 times out of ten i cant get the screen to wake using this ! and it don't seem to matter where on the screen i tap or how hard , it just isn't very responsive. i use the button on the side now !

Same here. Hopefully there will be a customized rom that can configure that double tap sensitivity level. The current range is too narrow, you can't tap too fast or too slow. So I usually just keep tapping 3-5 times until the screen unlocks. I use the button more often too.
Hmm that's weird. It almost always works the first time for me. I don't even tap hard. Do you tap fast enough?
Probably not fast enough. If I hold the phone with just one hand, usually my thumb is not fast enough.
It does not matter how fast or hard you tap the screen. It almost never works here. Can anyone confirm if this can be fixed with a hard reset?
I've just toyed around with this tap to wake and I've noticed some things about how it works.
You have to tap in the same place (you can't tap in corner and then then the other corner) and the distance seems to have only half an finger width margin of erorr, you have to use a small area to tap, so you cant tap with your whole thumb for example, it works best with just a finger tip. It doesn't matter how hard you tap but timing is important and it's roughly the same speed as a typical double click on a mouse (the faster the double tap the better).
Using this method to wake the phone is pretty redundant I think, I prefer to use the power button.
Anyway hope this helps.
Personally I've had no problems with double tap to wake. You just have to remember to tap in exactly the same place, and at a moderate rate. If you tap too fast, it doesn't pick it up.
I do love the feature though. I use it to wake my phone up probably 80% of the time, especially when it's sitting flat on a desk. So much more convenient than hitting the power button.
i tap with my index finger in fairly rapid succession normally in the middle of the screen .. but as i have said before i find it works far less than it should ! if the phone is laying down on a hard surface it will work more often , but if i hold in one hand and tap with the other, it seems to fail .
double tapping
Read most of these replies and i had the same issue regardless if i tap in the same spot, speed etc.
Anyways even though i dont wear gloves, i had this option ticked which affected the sensitivity of the screen. Once i unticked this option, the double tapping works 100% regardless of where on the screen i tap etc. you just need to tap consecutively close not seconds apart and mine never fails.
Hope this helps....
I noticed that also, but the circle that appears when you are close to the screen drives me nuts, so I turned it off. Instead I tap 3 times. That seems to do the trick.
Hi guys! I ran into the same problem , and I hope my post will help someone. You 've probably noticed that a double tap works in virtually 100 % of cases, if the phone is lying on a flat surface and does not move. So the trick is to keep your phone in a stationary while you're tapping . If you have small hands ( like I have ) , I recommend to keep the phone so that the lower left corner of the phone rested in the palm of your hand, and so the phone will not move. Pressing force and velocity values are not actually important. Sorry for my English and I hope somebody will find this information useful

After a week of using it, i had the same problems as you guys.
Now, it's wotking just fine, everytime.
You should get used to how to tap. Not very fast, slowly is better .:good:
It's wotking fine. Don't blaim de phone, it's you to blame

[Q] Waking the screen with double tap

I have enabled the option of waking up the screen with double tap.
Problem is that sometimes the screen does not wake up even after multiple tapping efforts.
Is this a bug ?
I don't think it's a bug. I've always assumed it's related to the sensitivity of the screen.
I have figured you need to double tap on the exact same spot, not really that easy to do. If you finger move a slight bit between taps, it won't register as a double tap. Because of this, I usually tap three times to wake it instead of two so I tap on the same spot a few times to wake it.

Guess I'll need to practice to get better at this.
it's not only related to tapping the same spot. if the phone is in deep sleep, you might have to tap it multiple times.
i think the position of the phone is important as well, it wakes slower when it's not in hand (resting on a surface)
Actually, when playing music via Bluetooth while the phone is upright in a cradle, it is most difficult to wake the screen via double tap. It is not in deep sleep for sure.
Sometimes it happens to me if your finger tip or your screen is a bit moist wipe it off and it will work fine.

Tap to wake not working - and I know why

I found that a lot of the time, when I take my phone out of my pocket and open the flip cover, double tap to wake doesn't work.
I played around with this a lot and I've figured out that if I wait a few seconds after flipping back the cover, double tap works.
If I leave the phone out on my desk with the flip cover open, double tap always works.
So the problem seems to be that the flip cover of my case is blocking the sensor (proximity?) on the face of the phone. I guess that sensor needs a few seconds of light before it wakes up and recognizes the double tap to wake.
My question is - how can I change this? I'd like the sensor to stay awake all the time so that I can double tap the screen the instant I flip open the flip cover.
Any ideas? This seems like maybe something the xposed framework could do with the right module.
I don't think it relies on light at all.
My phone works with knock code in the dark just fine.
Also, doesn't opening a circle case usually turn the screen on?

I can confirm that covering up the light sensor with your thumb for a few seconds while the screen is off prevents Knock-on from working even after multiple attempts. Mine allowed knock-on to work instantly after removing my thumb. So I'm not sure about the OP's problem.

How do I add the flashlight to the 2nd screen?

I don't see the flashlight app from the quick menu in the list of apps I can add to the 2nd screen. Is there something I'm missing?

It's there when the 1st screen is off. Just swipe over to get to it.
Thanks.
Disable swipe shortcuts?
Is there a way to disable these swipe shortcuts on the second screen when the main screen is off? I keep mine in my pocket and the phone keeps turning on the flashlight, etc. while inside my pocket because it's triggering these shortcuts.
I like the second screen being on for notifications and such (especially because there is no notification light ) but like this morning I got to work at 92% battery because my phone was running the flashlight for my entire 10 minute commute.

The screen shouldn't be staying on in your pocket. It uses the proximity/light sensor to to shut it off when it's covered up.

"Shouldn't be" but it is. I also have pulled out my phone to be greeted with "You have incorrectly entered your knock code 5 times".
EDIT: I'm just now thinking this may be an issue with the tempered glass screen protector. After I get a case on it I will see if taking that off helps the prox sensor respond better.

I've turned the flashlight on plenty of times by mistake. When I grab the phone by the top with a couple of fingers and put it in the arm rest in the car, I'll notice that I have inadvertently turned the flashlight on.

Yeah... that's why I just wish I could turn those shortcuts off altogether since I really don't need them and I activate them by mistake way more than I do on purpose. I like second screen, but don't like that it can activate functions/change volume while the phone is locked and there's no way to prevent that besides totally disabling it while the screen is off...

Has anyone found out how to add the flashlight to the second screen? I removed it by mistake and now I can't add it back. It's not on the list of options (apps) to add...
Thanks,
Ishkatar
