Question Post your battery scores here... - Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus

Hello i have the phone for some time and i am a little bit worried about the sot i get. I mean i have been reading reviews about 7-8 hours of screen time but so far i have not been able to achieve it.
So far the best score i managed was almost 5 hours of screen.
This was achieved with the following settings
Brightness at 100% (extra brightness turned off)
wifi on
4g off
location on for around 3 hours
bluetooth off
Dark mode on
adaptive motion smoothness
adaptive brightness off
I use 2 sims and i have the exynos cpu.
plus it was put on airplane mode for 7 hours during my sleep.
I wish i had a couple of hours more SOT it would make me love the phone a bit more....

With debloat, I can do 6-7h SOT with no gaming.
I do 5h SOT when gaming 5h.

My opinion 5hrs is pretty good. Everyone uses device different so it will vary. But remember, some not all, but will put device on long playing movies just to brag about screen on time. My motto is if the dang thing needs charged, charge it..lol. And some turn off so many things it makes you wonder why they even got a flagship. I have seen post with 10 or 11 hr screen times. In the real world most dont have time to be on their device for that long . Just enjoy it my friend

I tried to stay... but I have to go

I tried all of the battery tricks in this forum to get manageable battery life, but I could not make it to 3 pm no matter what and I refuse to cripple my smart phone any more - this was enough:
Wi-fi off
Wi-fi-calling off
Volte off
Location off
Display auto
Email sync 1 account - 30 min
The phone would deep sleep and my SOT was not over 3 hours ever- but I could never make it much past 3pm on a normal day. Maybe a got a bad phone, but I remorsed on the last day possible.
I have an M9 and am getting longer battery w/o all of the crippling above. Should I try an S6 or another S6 Edge? I love the phone and camera but accept TW, should I wait for the G4?

Just an FYI, I have both the M9 and the 2 of the S6 edge phones. I get about 15hrs/3 hrs SOT on S6, my wife gets almost 20hrs w/ 5 hrs SOT on hers! We use the phone in different ways. She is on facebook and texting. I am on email, texting, remote desktop & games. However, on the M9 I was getting about 30 minutes more than S6. Not a huge amount but it was slightly more. However, after using the M9 for almost a month and now having the S6, I'm returning the M9. Mainly due to the camera. I have kids and S6 is a much better spontaneous camera for consistently capturing a good image. Plus the screen makes the M9 look pale in comparison.
Did you try a Wipe Cache Partition and Wipe Data/Factory Reset under Recovery Menu? A lot of people have done the reset and the phone is getting now almost double the Battery life they were getting before, just by doing that, plus all the little tweaks about VoLTE and Wifi Calling and other bloat you should disable anyway.
Mine has giving me nothing but great battery life averaging 5.5 SoT since I git it on the 10th, BUT, I knew there was an update pending so I turned on the phone the first time, skipped all initial settings except the Wifi, it downloaded and installed the T-Mobile Update and then immediately I went to recovery menu and did the wipes then set the phone for the first time, working great since day 1.

Yes - I did that and it did not really change much. I think that I must have had a bad one...
You can make of this what you will as I have no idea if my singular experience plays out but I traded a white Edge in for the black color Edge and the new handset has much better battery life. Also the fingerprint scanner worked perfectly from the first try on the new handset and was about 50% on the white phone I turned in. And yes I tried all the suggestions for improving the fingerprint detection, watched the youtube videos, no luck. I stopped using it all together. I did all the revert, reflash, reset, wipe, turn off every thing under the sun, etc for the first handset to try and improve battery life but no joy. I still only get around 4 hours screen on before I'm down to the 20 percent range which isn't great but enough for me. It also matches my expectation for what is nowadays a small battery in a heavily bloated phone. My first handset was in the upper 2 hour to low 3 hour range in the same use with no wake locks detected and deep sleep occurring. Keep in mind I've been on Android from the very begining so I'm not unfamiliar with hunting down battery hogs, wake locks, etc.
I had planned on giving this one a go and if it was the same as the first one moving on to the next thing or else keeping it if it wasn't. Turns out I'm keeping and I'm glad, its a pretty little sucker...
ok- I am going to try another S6E and see if I get one with a good battery

Also, please try to investigate what apps may be draining the battery. After 16hrs., I'm at 47% battery life. I think that's pretty good.

Kernel recommendations

Hey,
In common with other Snapdragon 801 devices I've owned (Nexus 5 & Z3 Compact - once latter has ambient standby modes active) and used (LG G3, HTC One), the OnePlus X has bad standby battery drain. The only one I've tried previously that I found *slightly* better was the SG S5 (which I assumed was due to the OLED).
I wasn't expecting any miracles, but I was hoping that the OP X would be better than devices with smaller batteries and perhaps equal to the SG S5, given both have an OLED. However both stock ROM and custom ROMS have epic standby drain on the OP X ... considerably worse than the Nexus 5 with a smaller battery & (old) IPS screen, and in the case of the device I have now a lot of use (friend gave it to me after mine got stepped on).
Is this something others have noticed, and is there any way to ameliorate it significantly?
Are there any kernels people have found particularly good?
I don't want to disable ambient and various standby / wakeup functions as it significantly limits the usefulness of the phone, and power saving modes seem to make the phone very slow - I already find it a lot more stuttery than the Nexus 5 (though it shouldn't be).
A friend who's had all the OP devices said the OP X's battery drain was particularly bad in his experience, so it seems I don't have a lemon so much as typical experience.
Might have to sell it and go back to the drawing board. Wait for custom ROMS on the ZUK Z2 (or Pro) or the S7 Active, if they come.
The best description I can give is that drain on my OP X with no radios active (mobile, bluetooth or wifi), and not touching it at all for 24H, it'll go from 100% -> 82-84%. The Nexus 5 with GSM & WiFi running, will typically go to 84-86%.
Anyway ...

Wow, you have serious drain...My OPX in those conditions will lose something like 7% (it loses 2% at night for about 9 hours on 4G). The OPX suffers a lot with low cell reception, so im guessing you have a weak signal right? If you are using 4g with a weak signal, my advice is to put the phone in 2g/3g mode (or just 3g)
Since I switched to aosp based Roms and poked around for some great kernel settings, I'm getting descent battery and low drain. Overnight maybe 2-4% tops with WiFi on.
Stock ROM: 4% but I'm not sure, maybe more or less
Custom ROM: 2% and for sure it doesn't have any battery drain

What ROMs / Kernels are you using? Do you have ambient display on or off? Also, do you have adaptive brightness set to on or off? It struck me that maybe if you have it disabled and ambient on, the OLED might remain in a powered up state but not displaying anything ...
The friend with one came back to me and said he got about 5 and a half days of standby on his (with no SIM card and WiFi switched off). I've left mine for about 65 hours now and it's down to 54% ... so seems that it will be similar.
My barely used (and therefore good battery) Nexus 5 used to last about 7-8 days iirc. Battery on the replacement that I got given is significantly degraded (though still last longer than the brand new OP X).
I had great experience with turbo and DU ROM. I just use the kernels provided with some audit settings I found in turbo thread. I've tried every cm based ROM and there great but had too many small issues. I must add that I only use 3g some people in almost every ROM report pour reception with mm. It's all trial and error everyone has a different experience.

I'm on DirtyUnicorns ROM with its own kernel, keep in mind I get 4.5h SOT when I use the device mostly of the time under Wi-Fi.
And yes ambient display on, for me it's a great (I came from a Nexus 4) and I've nothing to complain about the battery life.
Maybe I can get more changing some settings on my OPX? :good:

[LF Kernel Recommendation] S9+ (Exynos) Battery drain

Good morning good evening and good night everyone,
As the title says, I'm looking for any recent kernels for an s9+ with solid battery life improvement, with the current stock android 10 ROM I get 4 to 5 hours of SOT with medium work load.
I've looked into the kernels and roms available on the boards but I need a solid recommendation, preferably from experience.
Thanks in advance

People should change their behavior not kernels I mean i do agree that any custom kernel, rom always gives better battery life, BUT end user is the cause of bad battery life, i often notice people have turned on EVERYTHING they can, NFC, Bluetooth, Wifi, Data... why???? if you have wifi-turn off data, if you ave data turn off wifi. If you don't have anything connected to Bluetooht-turn it off. Lower your screen brightness, many people use SUCH A HIGH brightness it burns their retinas. With Every phone i had last 5 years i need to charge battery every 3rd, sometimes 4th day. But i dont live in phone. I do have computer, phone is phone not replacement for computer. My words may sound like nonsense for nolifers who lives in phones (facebook, instagram and so on), but that's truth.
So to answer your question - ANY custom rom with custom kernel will be better then stock. Also make sure your resolution is fullHD not maximum, that helps too, and try lowering brightness even tiny bit. screen is biggest power consumption (if not gaming, but people use consoles for gaming)

I totally expect to drain my battery when I'm on a workload, but there's a discrepancy with my work load and battery usage, sometimes the phone sits idle and it eats 10 to 15% in an hour (no always on display or anything else). I've never been a guy of irresponsible phone usage either, I like to keep track of what my phone is doing and I usually turn off all the extras i'm not using (it's second nature to me to do so just like how you would check if your keys are there every once in a while). I'm not looking for a miracle kernel that saves battery even when i'm using my phone irresponsibly. I'm just looking for a well rounded efficient experience with my phone which doesn't get me through the day.
Thanks a lot for your answer and do you have any specific custom rom names or kernels that you've tested and would suggest, please?

Note 20 Ultra (Exynos version) - Big battery draining issue

Dear XDA members;
So, I've bought note 20 ultra a few weeks ago (refurbished, great condition!)
I've switched from Galaxy Fold 1 and from what I'm seeing, the battery life is almost 2x more horrid!
I've been trying to use it in order for it to get adjusted to my patterns, still, nothing special happened after weeks of usage.
I've tried everything - naptime + turning off adaptive battery; turning it back on and deep sleeping the apps, changing the settings for maximum battery life etc. Wiped the cache and reset my phone, still nothing. NOTHING helps!
I've even decided to buy a new battery! My battery life is still horrible. Based on the reviews, I should be getting decent battery life, however, it is about 2.5-3h of SoT... Idle battery drain is also insane...
I'm using android 13 and I've noticed that a lot of people seem to write that it's the problem.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I install some custom rom? If so, which one would you suggest?
I REALLY love this phone and I REALLY want it's battery to last for at least 4-5h of SoT...
Thanks A LOT in advance!
Best regards!
I think sadly that's normal for the Exynos phone. It was always the thing fro me, I've had it since November 2020. My screen and battery were changed a month before the 2 year warranty ran out, and with a new battery I still get around 2-3 hours of SOT
3h sot is ok!I still have ny N20 but iḿ using a Google Pixel Pro,new!and 3 h ,perhabs a little bit more is what it gives!I will keep my N20 ;its a mess what Samsung is doing! And this for many years! For example;my Note 3 or my Note 4 were wonderful Phones, realy! With new Baterys they can do a good job ,eveb in 2023 with Androis 13,they give **** of this! And so i quitt Samsung, leider!

Question Official battery life thread

I have the S23 Ultra since February 3rd and battery life gets better and better.
I don't know what to say. I think this s23 ultra is faulty. I can't be at 29% battery used with over 6 hours screen on time! Light use, from 80% charge
15 hours total uptime, 8 and a half hours screen off time, gotta sleep sometime. LIGHT performance profile used and screen at 60hz cause 120hz my eyes can hardly see. It's smoother yes, but barely, battery life is king for me
All on WiFi, location on, most apps sleeping. Gobsmacked. It's beating the redmagic 8 pro that's in the household with its 6k mah battery.
I'm expecting a lot less using mobile data, surely

Amazing battery
This phone is perfect
Got it since February 10th in the USA and I can only say battery has been great. Compared to my other phones ( coming from a pixel 7 pro and a Xiaomi mi 11 5g) the battery life is just excellent on this s23 ultra, for such a big device and huge screen size I think Samsung finally nailed it. No sleeping apps, not profile settings just plain stock and so far so good. Wifi and data on 24/7, location on 24/7, VPN 24/7 . The browser times where spent a huge time watching videos from it, almost an hour of video calling and shooting some video and photos, couple of sessions of gaming.

How much do you lose on standby? Say overnight, while sleeping, over 8-10 hours how much do you lose ?
My last check yesterday was 3 percent

Thanks, is that with WiFi data Bluetooth GPS etc off? How many hours standby did you lose 3% on?
The amazing battery life has a lot to do with the display too. It is a hugely more efficient panel.
Samsung gave the Galaxy S23 series a new energy-efficient AMOLED display
Samsung confirmed that it has fitted the Galaxy S23 line with a new type of AMOLED display that saves on power.

All on. Wifi. Data. Location. Bluetooth. Performance mode.
I'm so happy with this battery performance and am afraid to update OS when it comes out...Given the great track record of Samsung breaking things that don't need fixing, there's a high probability that the battery life will go for a toss
Had my s23 ultra since 7 Feb and consistently get just under 10 hours of SOT (most of my day is indoors on WiFi, with a 2 or 3 hours walk most afternoons in 4g)
I am running pretty.much on default settings for screen and battery - I just use my phone normally and forget about battery optimisation settings
This is the best battery.life EVER on a Samsung!
After 2 weeks with the 23u and my standard use of it i have from 85% to 30% (i never go below 30%) 4h SoT

I think it is ok. I use performance mode, all location, Bluetooth with watch, some 5G, some WiFi etc.
I mostly read on phone, scrolling...

Have you done anything specific in battery settings? Any debloating? Is this with wqhd + 120hz? Standard mode or lite mode? What's your battery settings ?

Yes I did debloat, light batter profile and battery saving (it's more than powerfu enough).
Plus I have disabled all the nearby services for smarthings find the phone offline wifi quick share etc.
I don't like having the phone always sending radio signals around for no reason

Can you give a brief list of what you debloated?
Also, android system intelligence service, is that even a necessary app? Would cause any issues if I disabled/deleted it?
