Hello,
I just purchased an Archos 70IT, 8Go, with the latest formware (2.3.something)...
I want to get rid of this menubar on the bottom (moving it top) and also increase the 300Mo application limit :s
so it seems that only rooting can help...
I looked through this forum, found the "archanagel" method, but also that it does not work on my firmware...
I don't care so much about warrenty... can someone please just give me a hint as to how to root my device and, also important, some tools to do what I want to do ?
thanks in advance for your help
If you just want root, use the chulri root method look here at forum
If you want extra functions like 3g support,dvb-t support, increasing ram (swap, compcache), increase the apps partition and many other, try Urukdroid
With both ways you loose warranty
I tried Urukdroid, but got strucked at the very beginning, unable to flash the kernel :s
I enter bootloader, but the menu à have seems different of the one given... Perhaps because I am on latest firmware (2.3.2) ?
And you installed the SDE first?
from Archos Site ? feel bad... I forget starting there :s
So I think I have the answer here...
is there a topic which can help me step by step doing so ?
And is it sure that Urukdroid installs well on Archos70IT with 2.3.2 firmaware ?
because actually, I don't want to "kill" my device
UrukDroid bypass the Archos firmware, (you have the choix in the bootloader) so the version don't change anything
Somebody testet this system on an archos70it?
Also about sdk... any special precaution to take?
Thanks for your help all
I have a A70 IT and UrukDroid runs very well!
About the SDK, just follow the instructions. Oh, and it void the firmware waranty.
I will try this evening... hope not to post an SOS here after
Good luck
I made everything, and it works
nice !
but here a small question : if I update now to the latest firmware, will it change my device ? will I loose the root etc ?
thanks for all the help
UrukDroid and official Android from Archos are each in their own partition, so upgrading one will not change the other^^

Yep and if you've questions post it
in fact I have two already
1) Archos and Uruk are on two partitions... How can I force Uruk to load when I shutdown/switch on again without selecting it "manually" ? my archos wants to boot on archos OS all time :/
2) about the update... I have it in Uruk boot (he wants me to update Android to 2.3 when I am on Uruk...)
thanks
It asks you beacause UrukDroid is based on an older version of the Archos Android.
And to force the start of UrukDroid, for me it is by default, and if not, you just have to start it once in the Recovery Menu and then it is by default.

1) Press the Volume Down Button when you startup, then choose Developer Edition
From now on your archos will boot UD normally
2) Its the Archos firmware 2.3.26, not Android 2.3 Gingerbread
2.3.26 is still Android 2.2.1 Froyo If you want 2.3.26 you have to use the normal Archos Os, not Urukdroid or wait (Until UD 1.1 is ready)
so updating will not modify uruk ? (remove root etc for example...) ? if update is fine I will do it
Also, it seems that Uruk is installed on SD Card... if I want to remake a clean "advanced" install on internal storag... how can I do this ? (since if I install it again, it seems to me that I will have 3 OS on my Archos... I just want "Uruk" on the "internal"

You just have to do the Urukdroid install process again And choose advanced
The UrukDroid website provide a guides for the installation : Installation of UrukDroid
Hello all,
I am VERY new to this and was reading a fair bit on forums etc before having a go. I really want to make my Desire X use more of its memory as its internal memory is just way to small....
I have the HTC Windroid universal tool.
I have successfully unlocked the phone (its shows unlocked on bootup)
I have then installed TWRP successfully.
I have also installed a new Kernel (NeXus) in an attempt to help.
The issue I have am having is when I used the "Gain Root" - Flash Superuser option, it ran OK and said installing (although on the phone it wouldn't access some cahces), but said it was done successfully. The SU App was then ont he phone, BUT when i ran the Root Checker app, it said the phone was NOT properly rooted. When I ran the SuperUser app it said the binary was out of date, but the install options both failed.
I have also tried to manually load the UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.02.zip but that also didn't work?
My main (and only real object) is to get the phone so I can use more memory and run more apps etc, and possibly dump some bloat stuff I will never use, but i dont know how to continue without a successful root in place?
Any ideas? I have read around a lot but cant find a solution?

Try flashing the zip in this link http://download.chainfire.eu/396/SuperSU/ from recovery, I would advise you use the newer TWRP recovery (2.7.1) found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-desire-x/orig-development/recovery-twrp-2-7-1-desire-x-t2830924 and infinityshooter's kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2483489

OK progress report, I have uploaded the recovery img of TWRP with windroid tool fastboot. 2.7.1 now installed.
TWRP 2.7.1 looks much nicer..no grafix glitches.
installed the zip 1.94 SU you pointed me too.......
SuperSu then said it needed to update the binary when I ran the app on the phone, which I chose to do via TWRP.
Reboot completed via TWRP (all automatically)
SuperSu app then opened and seemed to work.
Rootchecker says: ROOTED!
WOOT! thanks a lot....
Now the question comes .. how do I get my Desire X to start using all its available memory eg SD car, and also how do I use priority access to get rid of default apps I never use?
PS I do appreciate the time you are taking to answer these questions!

Niceee, if you want to remove system apps (e.g. apps you don't use like teetr) then use titanium backup or root explorer, as far as extending memory (e.g. ram or internal memory) i don't think it's possible *Anyone who knows otherwise feel free to correct me*
I'm happy to help, as there were users ready to help me when i started.
plus: are you the guy that posted on the FB group about rooting and extending memory ?

Yeah I have Titanium backup installed now and will work through the rubbish non used apps....
As for Facebook, no that wasnt me...
By the way, I have Android 4.1.1. on the phone as stock.
Do you think its worthwhile upgrading it (somehow?) to Android 4.3? Will that be more efficient and save battery better, and be more optimised? Or will it be more bloated and cane my phone more?
Opinions please....
In fact will flashing a different ROM actually include an upgrade to a different base droid OS?

CM12 on Nook Tablet
I downloaded your build and recovery last night. It installed without issues. I then installed PA Gapps Micro 5.0.1 (1/31 build). The system partition is at 91% with the micro Gapps. The only issue I have encountered so far is Titanium backup cannot get root access. I'll figure that one out so I can restore some of my apps.
Thanks and great work!
Nook Tablet with Lollipop, but no root
Hello,
I have nook tablet 16GB and rooted and installed Liquid Smooth 4.4.4 and CM10. It worked fine, but only problem was, it was saving file and everything to external sdcard. Internal memory wasn't gettign used.
Today, I installed CM12 and updated the system to Lollipop from the following forum.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nook-tablet/development/cm-12-l-lollipo-nook-tablet-acclaim-t3019125
It initially gave errors on Launcher3, I cleared the cache and cleared data and forced closed. in few minutes the launcher started worked fine.
Now, I went to Titanium backup to try restoring and to my surprize there is no 'Root' access. Did this ROM has no root access?
Please help.

Feb. 9th nightly
I have the latest recovery installed with the Feb 9th nightly. I can now reboot to recovery from the power-off menu. Yea!
I did have initial problems with the Feb. 9 nightly, I seem to have wiped out my gapps when I initially installed it (which I had to do manually). Clearing the cache and reflashing the Feb. 9th update and gapps fixed everything.
CM12 Rocks
I installed CM12 last night. I have the occasional hang->reboot, and there are some sluggish times but on the whole it's pretty sweet. I'm using my chromecast with netflix from the nook. For some reason CM11 with netflix wouldn't let me chromecast... not sure why but oh well.
My question is: when I hit the "settings" menu and tap the "buttons" option it causes the settings menu to crash with an "Unfortunately settings has stopped". Is this expected? I thought maybe it was because I originally tried a dirty-flash so I tried a factory-reset and wipe cache and then installed but the crash still occurs.
Thanks,
-Greg
too slow to respond
My NT is very very slow after install lastest CM12 (via OTA update) and about 10 apps, It spend 5-10s to open an app. Eventhough, turn off the screen also spend 2 seconds.
I can confirm that happens for me on the Feb. 9th build also. I did submit the bug report.
Just updated to Feb 11 nightly using cmupdater. Updated with no problem EXCEPT AOSP keyboard keeps quitting and lost gapps again. (pa_gapps-modular-micro-5.0.1-RC3-20150201-signed.zip) Reinstalled gapps. Note that "buttons" in setting still causes setting to close. I can't seem to view the recovery log through recovery (I see a few words of sup small tiny tiny type) and am not sure where it lives on the system. Does anyone have any ideas about why this is happening (loss of gapps) ? Could someone let me know where to find the recovery log?
thnx

According to this post in the dev thread, you can enable root in Settings/Developer Options. Attempting to open Developer Options causes Settings to crash here, currently.

Found the recovery log--
Obviously the backup of gapp apps that is done during recovery failed--
e.g.
grep: /tmp/gapps.prop: No such file or directory
mkdir: can't create directory '/sdcard/tmp-gapps//': Permission denied
cp: can't create '/sdcard/tmp-gapps//system/app/GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter/GoogleCalendarSyncAdapter.apk': No such file or directory
mkdir: can't create directory '/sdcard/tmp-gapps//': Permission denied
cp: can't create '/sdcard/tmp-gapps//system/app/GoogleContactsSyncAdapter/GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk': No such file or directory
mkdir: can't create directory '/sdcard/tmp-gapps//': Permission denied
cp: can't create '/sdcard/tmp-gapps//system/app/GoogleHome/GoogleHome.apk': No such file or directory
mkdir: can't create directory '/sdcard/tmp-gapps//': Permission denied
etc.
Could this be an issue with the recovery mg itself? I can install gapps with flashify with no problem.
---------- Post added at 03:33 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:09 PM ----------
I just noticed in the recovery log where gapps was not recovered:
persist.sys.root_access=0
Shouldn't it be persist.sys.root_access=3?

For me, the closing of setting on trying to use developer settings was fixed 2 or 3 roms ago. I don't have titanium backup installed so don't know whether that will work now.

At the bottom of that post you will find a zip with the drivers. Using the posters suggestion I have found it much easier to use a wireless app (WIFI ADB in my case) then installing the windows drivers on my Windows 10 tech preview..
Hope this helps.
What's the issue with needing a new recovery? I flashed successfully using CWM 6.0.4.8 and the full sized GApps, and found virtually no errors, and barely any sluggishness.

When I flashed with the OP's latest recommended recovery (I think 6.0.5.1) I lost gapps twice. Didn't happen before that. Earlier than feb. 9th nightly, I could not get into recovery from shutdown menu and CMupdater couldn't get into recovery. (I updated manually). Now with twrp 2.8.4.0. everything is working "automatically" for me.
I find tablet to be pretty responsive, too. Hitting "buttons" in setting still closes settings (not something I use, but was just testing)
Hi there, I "ported" Cyanogenmod 12.1 rom from Lenovo Tab 2 a7-20 (from this link: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0Bxd-XcN0S63qWjJoTVlkRXlrams which I found on this russian website: http://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=711492&st=1100#entry63268934) to our Lenovo Tab 3 710f with Cygwin and kitchen, succesfully installed it on the device with no flashing errors through Tzul's TWRP (see: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=673368273298949373) and then flashed the patch for the rom which I previously ported as well, then proceeded to install Gapps 5.1 pico, succesfully too.
Now the problem begins..., whenever I try to boot into the rom, it loads a little while on Lenovo splash screen just to go back to TWRP recovery menu, and it always does that. I referred to Android's Kitchen FAQ (see: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633246) but I have no good knowledge nor adequate time to setup Android SDK and debug the issue with logcat, or in any other way that I know of, so I ask for somebody to help me sort out this problem and hopefully fix it so the rom may be bootable and usable, then the community may have the FIRST EVER ACTUAL CUSTOM ROM for this device, furthermore, making it stable. YOU WILL GET ALL THE CREDIT. (well, 99.9 of it)

Hola, necesitaria que pusieras un tutorial de como instalar paso a paso Cyanogenmod 12.1 en mi tabletlenovo tab 3 710f, ya que no encuentro la manera de hacerlo.
Gracias!!!
Hey thanks for it. I just wanna know how can I remove some apps before flashing it like File Manager, Email, Browser??
One bug I am encountering related to MAC address of the device, The MAC is changing on every on/off of WIFI radio?? How to fix it as my router can only connect limited number of devices??
...
Thank you!
Thanx a lot man!
You really saved my day, that others did mess up!
I rooted my device + wanted use custom roms.
It was an another website that had information and it was to "Tab 3 710F, but that fxxxxxg website only had roms to "tab3 710I".
I really messed up my pad.
Anyway I have some questions, the partition in my pad is only 5GB, do you know why?
Is the original Stock rom spooking around in some partition of 3GB?....as the internal memory in the pad is 8GB total...
Since this Cyanogen is based on Android 5 it dont support Adoptect storage on the fly.
I wanted originally to install Android 6 to this pad, Lenovo dont want to give it to me and thats the main reason why I rooted.
Is it possible to move whole applications to SD card and run from there?
Since the internal memory is so bad in this pad I really would like to use this feature!!!
Anyway I like this rom since unnesserary bloatware are gone and its good there is no playstore or gmail, since this pad is to one of my children and they dont really need these

freaking awesome man! Three bugs
1 - YouTube is only at 360p
2 - Camera is just at 1.5 (or something like that pixels)
3 - Doesn't recognize the device when I plug on the PC
Just to thank all of you for saving my kids tablet back to life!!!

Thanks!

Is this even possible?
Why I want 6 is the adopted storage...the main problem with this tablet is the too small 8Gb rom memory!
I want use SD card to applications....
Im a newbie with rooting etc...managed to install TRWP and now this cyanogenmod, but now I lost root access too
Nevermind!
Asked in another forum also about this and the answer was that my tablet too weak to run Android 6+...
I got root just booted to TRPW and choosed reebot and then it asked if I want root...choosed yes!
After that tablet started and it asked me to install super su from playstore, since I dont even have playstore I just downloaded SuperSu app to my phone and did a backup APK that I sent via bluethoot to this tablet. Voila tablet rooted again.
Then installed Link2SD app (in the same way)...
Did partion my SD card in my computer, first as FAT and second as EXT4....
Now I have a lot of memory to install apps in my tablet!
