Change icon sizes on Chrome homepage. - Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 / S7 Plus Questions & Answer

After much (very much) frustration, I have managed to find a combination of settings (minimum width in developer options /zoom/font size) that allows all my apps to display correctly. Except now the homepage looks like this:-
Is there any way to change either the icon dpi/size alone or have the whole screen dedicated to the icons because I never use Discover (so its wasted space)?
Thank you.

What combination of settings? (minimum width in developer options /zoom/font size)

I'm really sorry, I can't remember what I was using because it was unusable like that.
I now use Labs/Bixby routines to change the resolution automatically when I use the apps that were previously giving me problems. It's not a perfect solution but it's better than it was.
Plus, I don't think that the minimum dpi settings actually stick correctly on this tablet, unless I am doing something wrong.

Bypassing the screen size check in the market

I know that when a dev is populating the androidmanafest.xml they add the <supports-screen> filter and choose the size screen the app will support. If they do not choose
Code:
android:[URL="http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/manifest/supports-screens-element.html#any"]anyDensity[/URL]="true"
then the app will be filtered from any device that has changed screen density, since it checks the /system/build.prop.
Is there any way to spoof a 'normal' screen density while keeping the density you want, or prevent the market from checking that portion of the build.prop?
LCD density app
There's an app called lcd density which changes the screen density. It's experimental and I don't know if it'll do the trick but it seems like the answer you were searching for.
It requires root, and you can't set the density you want on boot, but first you should check out if it doesn't crash your phone before setting on boot.
Here's the link for it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=765639
Hope it helps
Thanks, but that is not at all what I am searching for. I know how to edit the build.prop to change density and the various apps that change it for you. What I am looking for is a way to prevent the market from filtering apps that do not support screen density smaller than 240.
It seems that there have been many posts about this, but no solutions.
Sorry about that, misread your post. Now I see what you are saying.
I doud you can do any changes in the way the market behaves facing your build.prop well you can probably but it doesn't sound easy. If there is no problem after you get the app but the problem is to download the apk why not getting it else where, on another market or on the web if you find you're hurting the developer find a way to donate to his app developing.
Well just brainstorming (can't hurt ), I'll look around for some answers on that subject.
I could go find these apps in other ways, but I like using the market (less now that it's updated), but it is a pain to change the screen density and reboot just to update my market apps. Maybe I should forget the market and go back to using Appbrain...
I understand your problem, I've searched around and didn't find any answers, I got the market apk i'll mess around with it to see if I can find an answer. In the meanwhile appbrain seems like a good alternative, does the fast web installer work?

[HELP] Reducing entire UI size

Hello. This is probably a first, but i want to ask if anyone knows how i could resize everything on my phone, so that its a bit smaller? Lets say the statusbar is a bit thinner, then the icons on the bottom of the screen are smaller. I've seen my friend do it once, it creates the illusion of a bigger display screen, i don't know how he did it though. So far i'm using [THIS] rom.
Is this possible on the xperia go?
Basically if it were a windows computer, to do this you'd change the resolution to a bigger one, as on lets say 800x600 the icons would be big, everything would be big, and if you change it to 1280x720 it would all shrink a bit.
Add this line to /system/build.prop (a few ROMs already have it, likely set to 240, in which case obviously just change the number):
ro.sf.lcd_density=200
200/210 is the setting I'm most comfortable with (sufficiently small but keyboard still usable).
Keep in mind that a few apps like Sony's launcher don't work well with DPI changes...

thank you, that worked. The rom i'm using is using a kitkat launcher which works splendid, only thing i noticed that is buggy is the number dialer, which i'll probably just replace with a different one now. cheers

[Q] Everything is TINY on Galaxy S4 with Themer

Hi folks,
I'm a Themer noob, but a even with searching around I haven't found the solution. Basically, I installed Themer on my Slimkat ROMed T-Mo Samsung Galaxy S4 (M919 model), and went theme shopping. Found lots of nice ones but they all look tiny on my screen. Fonts and icons are much smaller than shown while browsing themes. For example, here's a theme I thought looked pretty. I'm attaching two pictures, one as shown in the theme browser and the other (with the tiny text and a tiny angry birds icon) the way it actually displays.
How do I change the sizes of the things, basically zooming the elements by a factor of 2-3X?
I have tried the icon size dp setting, but changing it doesn't seem to do much of anything at all.
Thanks in advance for help in adjusting the scaling!

Hi Marc,
We apologize about this, but you say you're running Slimkat. For some reason Slimkat has also been giving other users in this section similar issues. However one possible cause for this could be your display/DPI/resolution settings. Make sure that all your settings are set to your device's default setup, as Slimkat may have changed a few of them.
If this isn't the case please let us know, thanks!

Thanks Marco. I'll poke around today and see if I can figure out how to change the DPI stuff. I've never needed to in my past Android experience and will need to figure out how to do it. I haven't yet seen an obvious setting for it, so maybe it's a build.prop mod?
I will report back after investigating!
Marc
I researched and found the actual pixel density of the S4 screen is 441. Using Device Control's build-prop settings, I found mine with SlimKat was set to 370. I adjusted it to 441 and a lot of things look more normal now in the regular launcher. The status bar at the top is now normal size and fonts are generally more legible.
However, in Themer, things still seem a bit small. I re-applied the theme, and things got a bit bigger, but still smaller than I'd like. I'll continue to poke around...

Whenever you have an issue with Themer, try this:
1. Uninstall Themer.
2. Delete the /sdcard/MyColorScreen/ folder (remove the Exported folder if you saved any themes).
3. Reinstall Themer.
Let me know how it goes!

DPI change breaks AlwaysOnDisplay font/hour?

Oi,
I'm currently at 540 dpi set via build.prop + a few apps modified by working (yay) AppSettings. When sleeping the phone, for the first second or two, everything looks okay, before the hour font goes crap. The date font stays fine tho, so do the notification icons. Trying to force stock (640) dpi setting on aod/clock, AodEx processes won't help. Has anybody noticed/figured out a way how to handle this?
I just did leave everything normal, and set stuff like systemui to the dpi i want with AppSettings, works fine for me.
I modified it through ADB and I see the same results. It looks like there is a differently sized black outline of the time that should be there.
I can live without always on display but i find alot of apps have enlarged resources. Most notably in the play store.

Reduce Size of text in notifications?

Hi Guys,
I scaled my interface to small, and everything looks smaller now (better). But the size of the notifications when i pull down the notification bar looks super huge and is not affected by the overall scale of the system.
Is there any way to reduce the size of this notifications?
ROOT?
do you have root access?

I know your pain brother. Default dpi/scaling looks like a phone for 90year old with mega eyesight issues + steps to lower it to a good looking system are too steep, so you can have either Large or tiny option. View mode setting has zero effect on size of notifications in respect of incoming notifications and notifications appearing in in quick toggle area. Text Size @ Small makes them notifications look bit better but not ideal considering its a qhd screen..
Try going for small in both of these settings. At first View Mode/Text Size set to small seemed to tiny to handle, but I got used to it already. I would rather have small and crisp text than that default large out of place crap..
No i dont have root, but what happens if i do have root?

You are right, i went with small on both settings, and it does feel a bit better. Thanks for the recommendation! I must admit in some apps text is extremely tiny though (like whatsapp). But well i guess thats better than those giant notifications that annoy me all the time
But on my mate 9 it works for Notification also. Only on my new Mate 10 it is not applying. I hope for a fix in the next Updates.

What do you mean by "it" ? View mode ?
Its just that on mate 10 (alp-l29 8.0.0.115 (C185):
x. View mode options have zero effect on size of notifications, however,
x. Text size options does change the size of notifications, however only Text size - small looks good, however it makes other areas in phone uber-tiny..bearable but no the perfect solution..

Reduce Text size and the notification are small. On my Mate 10 non Pro there is no affect when I'm change the Text size.

No, you are wrong. Text size does change the size of notifications. View mode is the setting that's not working properly since it has no effect on size of notifications no matter what of 3 size options you chose.
See the screenshot I made comparing 3 different sizes of Text size, which clearly show that size of notification does change depending on the chose size of "Text size".
If View mode would work properly, meaning its options would have affect on notification size than Text size - normal could be used, but unfortunately that's not the case, so in order to have decent looking phone Text Size and View mode should both be set to Small.

so what?!
Manual change of DPI does not give you any better results than View Mode - Small, Text Size - Small. Even the slightest change of DPI from "423" (423 is what the system sets with the mentioned settings (View Mode - Small, Text Size - Small)) messes up the whole system - for example, font in Chrome and Whatsapp jumps like crazy even @ 420 which is a small step down, so in short - messing just with DPI in development options will not give you more eye candy/more decent looking system than View Mode - Small, Text Size - Small.
I get it. In all my mobile phones I have used xposed with the appsettings module, we will have to pray for xposed to arrive soon in oreo in order to be able to touch the interface of the system. Huawei must offer better tools for the density of notifications but I do not think it will fix it
Lowering the dpi also or increasing the dp in the developer options did not change the notifications size also. I was having the mate 9 and it was working perfectly for me in this regard. There should be some update to fix this issue.

Set mine to 492. I noticed the notification contents to shift down when I set it to 493 or higher.
I set it to view mode normal and text size small and put dpi in developer settings to 392. It looks like as it should have been standard. Anyways, now I have to change dpi after every reboot .

Me too. I noticed dpi in developer settings reverts back to 432 every after reboot. Also auto brightness. It activates after reboot even if you turned it off. I guess we should lessen rebooting from now on. ?
