Hi I have a V30+ unlocked US998 which I flashed to verizon with the VS996 flash and the stock verizon pie rom. Now I switched service and my new phone crapped out and I want to go back to this phone but I need it to go back to T-Mobile bands. Using Uppercut for LGUP it wont flash back to US99830b, it says ERROR KDZ file is invalid VS996 -> US998. I tried all options including PRL Write but even though that one says success the phone is still on VS99630c. How can I flash it back to use for T-Mobile and then do I need to use a specific ROM as well since this one says "SIM card is not verizon wireless" ? Thanks.
ok flashed the twrp zip to get back to us99830b but i still cannot connect to tmobile. whenver i enter the access point info for the APN manually it never saves. How do you force it to save, yes i hit save....
ok got the APN to save and it is selected but I still cannot connect. Do I need a different ROM?

1) We don't use Uppercut on the V30 phones. (Uppercut would work only on Nougat, not Oreo or Pie. Once you got to Oreo or later it's useless.) You use LGUP, preferably dev patched LGUP. See Frankenstein instructions.
2) SIM card not Verizon wireless is a nag message. It will still work. Or should still work.
3) Right now T-Mobile is not giving VoLTE/VoWIFI to older phones like the V30, UNLESS it's their own T-Mobile H932. And you cannot flash that firmware to any non-H932 V30 without bricking it totally.

Hey XDA, I'm having a bit of a problem. I got my G5 just recently and I wanted to go ahead and unlock the bootloader so I could install some custom ROMS (I'm not a fan of LG's ux), but I ran into a sticky situation. I was trying to flash the TOT file for rooting h830 with LGUP when I found out that it doesn't work on Nougat. I tried to cancel it but now I'm just stuck in firmware update at 0%. The code at the bottom says 633A B50. I can get into fastboot but I can't really go anywhere from there and I've gotten to stock recovery but all it does is factory reset and boot me straight back to firmware update. I downloaded the stock nougat kdz file but LGUP won't flash it; sometimes it says invalid, other times it gives me the error code 0x2000 CEFS::Initialize. This is a brand new (kind of expensive) phone and I can't send it to LG for repairs since I unlocked the bootloader and probably voided warranty so I'm really desperate for a solution. Can anyone help me out?

Was your phone on the 20a version before you tried flashing the 10d root tot file and did you actually cancel the process within LGUP while it was flashing the phone?
Another user had a similar problem but he flashed the 20a version before he accidentally flashed the 10d root tot and he fixed it by just flashing the stock 20a within LGUP.
Assuming you can still get into download mode you should be able to fix your device.

If flashing is successful factory reset your phone from the stock recovery after.
Thanks, that worked but I had to do a little tinkering before it did. LGUP wouldn't flash it because it kept saying invalid and some other random reasons but I found a program called uppercut that allowed it to flash. I was able to get back to stock and then I used the dirtycow exploit to flash TWRP. All's good now on XenonHD.
so I thought I had a grasp on the unlocking rooting myself. I was getting the error in lgup where it doesn't recognize my device at all. I unlocked the oem and it did its own flash afterwards then I had to go and reset unknown sources. then I tried to do the lg up flash assuming all I needed from my 20i was the v10d arb01 may 23, I picked the upgrade and in the middle of it it failed. then it rolled back. so I tried it several more times in lgup and it failed so I tried the arb 01 march 4 with full root and it failed.
Edit: okay lI found uppercut and it reconnected me to LGUP then I used the flashable 20a file and that patched me right up. But no root, I can do a 1 click now I guess but what about a flashable twrp or can I just install it like the old cwm or x-parts? where to now? do I try the 10d one with root? I'm really tired of looking and blindly downloading tot and kdz files hoping they work? My main goal is to slap RR remix on this for anyone that would give me a hand
I picked up a new in box factory unlocked LG V30+ (LG-US998) on Amazon pretty cheap in December. What I didn't realize it that it is just running android 7.1.2 not 8 which I believe is the most current version available. I bought the unlocked version to avoid all the AT&T bloatware, but now I'm realizing it won't update OTA to the newest OS and is probably behind on security updates. Does anyone know what I need to do to get the phone to update OTA. I'm not interested in a custom rom or any of that, so if that means I need to flash the AT&T stock rom (with their bloatware) that's fine. I just want the phone to get OTA updates. I tried using the LG software to update it and it doesn't recognize the phone.

You just need to update to latest US998 KDZ via software called LGUP.

Yes, those instructions are for converting to US998 -- but steps 4 and 5 still apply to someone just wanting to update US998 to most current firmware.
Install LGUP, download latest US998 KDZ (links provided), flash via Update mode. Easy.

I read through but I'm a bit unsure of what I need to do. Do I need to unlock the bootloader or root it? I'm not interested in rooting it. Do I just download US99820h_00_0318.kdz and use the patched LGUP to install / flash it to my phone? I'm not sure where to get the proper patched version of LGUP to do this.

Yes, that's exactly what you do. It's like a manual OTA. You have the file, you use Upgrade mode with Dev Patched LGUP (which is more powerful than stock LGUP).

I had this same issue with my phone... Wouldn't ever get OTA updates... Honestly, the easiest way to get updates outside the kdz and lgup is to use the twrp stock builds. They're stock V30, you can get them without bloatware (US-998), and updating them is a piece of cake once you know what you're doing... In my case, the lack of updates seemed to have something to do with the fact that my device was somehow a Sprint device, blah blah blah....
Anyways, TWRP stock builds is the way to go... I'm currently running the Tmobile stock build and it's fine and does whatever I need it to... I like it better than custom

I agree TWRP flashable zip is fantastic. I use it, but for my wife's phone which is not bootloader unlocked or rooted (and my sister's phone also), the LGUP/KDZ method is where they need.

I hate to resurrect such an old post, but I never got around to doing this. Now that the quarantine is in place I have time. Is there a newer version of the kdz that I should use (probably Pie)? I'm guessing there's a newer version of LGUP (modified) as well?
Let me make sure I understand this too. I can use the modified version of LGUP to flash the newer kdz to my phone using the "upgrade" option and it keeps all the data currently on my phone, right? If later I wanted to do a factory reset on my phone, that would wipe the data but still retain the newer kdz that was installed, correct?

For US998, I only recommend updating to last Oreo 20h. I'm rooted, still on that. My wife, mother, sister, brother in law who are all NOT Bootloader Unlocked/Rooted are all still on that, also.
The one US998 Pie KDZ we received is very wonky. It's technically for U.S. Cellular. LG never released Pie KDZ for Open Market. Charging is slower, other things broken if you use other carriers.
Many people find it hard to update to, and if you have problems most of the workarounds depend on having TWRP.
I strongly recommend stable last Oreo 20h.
Yes, there is newer version of Dev Patched LGUP. I have it posted in the US998 Oreo and Pie KDZ threads, as well as Frankenstein.
Yes, if the use Upgrade mode you keep your data as long as you are already on earlier same firmware, in this case US998.

You never had no fastboot flash commands while on Verizon firmware. You only have fastboot flash commands while on US998 firmware. That's why you had to temporarily Frankenstein to US998 to unlock the bootloader.
Why did you try to update to Pie OTA while you had TWRP custom recovery? OTA is ONLY for phones with full stock. We tell people over and over they will NEVER take OTA unless back in on full stock firmware.
Most people with TWRP freeze or disable the annoying OTA bags which are useless to them.
You should have waited for the TWRP-flashable zip that's coming...
Yeah, hindsight is 20-20. I installed stock 20k Verizon firmware, and took the OTA update. Wanted to play with Verizon's Pie for a bit. The update downloaded, but on rebooting, it failed. So now I'm still stuck on Verizon Oreo, no fastboot commands, unable to use LGUP to flash any .kdz. Lesson learned. Perhaps the guy on ebay can remote fix this.

You didn't install full stock firmware if you flashed with VS996 TWRP-flashable zip.
If you flashed full VS996 KDZ via Dev Patched LGUP, then yes that's installing stock firmware. And that would have wiped out TWRP, and safety allowed you to update with OTA.
HOWEVER, you would have no fastboot flash commands and no way to reinstall TWRP. You would then have to Frankenstein back to US998 for that.
Good news is your bootloader is still unlocked. You never locked it back. You just have no fastboot flash commands.

For ****s and giggles, I wanted to try Pie, and for me, the best way to do so was to do it via OTA on a fresh stock kdz. I didn't mind, as I can (could) easily get TWRP, root,etc back. However, the OTA didn't install (Verizon's fault?), there was an update installation error. I gave up, tried to kdz back to us998 like I've done successfully a bunch of times. But LGUP can't install any kdz because I lost download mode. It just gets to 4% and reboots back into the OS. I have a feeling my LAF is corrupted. Taking an OTA from Verizon that is meant for millions of phones shouldn't cause this sort of trouble but it did. I lost my ability to revert changes.
It appears the only way to get download mode back is to do it remotely via test points. Arghh.

So you did flash full VS996 Oreo KDZ? You had already gotten rid of TWRP prior to taking the OTA? I thought you had flashed V996 Oreo TWRP flashable zip and tried to take OTA with TWRP custom recovery still installed.
Then other than the crappy partial image OTA, I don't know why it didn't work.
Are you able to go into download mode manually before opening LGUP? If so, what I would suggest is re-installing Verizon Oreo KDZ via Refurbish mode to clean things up. Make sure you are using the NEW Dev Patched LGUP found in the Pie KDZ threads, not the older one found in the Oreo KDZ threads. The older one doesn't work to downgrade from Pie. Even though you didn't successfully update to Pie, something about your system may have changed.
Then after successfully reinstalling VS996 Oreo KDZ (if successful), then go full blown Frankenstein to US998: US998 Nougat, Master Reset, US998 Oreo.

Unfortunately, I have somehow lost download mode, so LGUP will never work. Is it possible for an OTA to inactivate download mode? If so, that seems pretty shady, but not unlike Verizon. If Verizon is inactivating download mode, they're being selective (maybe by IMEI?) sonas not to be obvious about it.
From what I understand, the LAF partition is associated with download mode in LG phones, is it somehow possible to restore via LGUP an LAF image or whatever format that's in and maybe get LAF partition back?

You really need to unbrick this using qload 9008 and remote service from someone using octoplus, any button dance doesn't work to get download mode?

Yeah, as far as I know if LAF is borked on VS99620K then Octoplus is it, but I'll ask on Telegram to make sure. Good news is you can go into QLD 9008 mode for Octoplus repair using button dance and not necessarily need to open back of phone. There is a dude on XDA that'll do it for $15 instead of $35 (XDA discount)

You have to use Frankenstein method to cross flash North American variants when using full image KDZ.
(And even Frankenstein does not allow T-mobile H932, due to different RSA encryption.)
You can't just cross flash Oreo and Pie KDZ back and forth. There's a method you have to use, where you first flash Nougat of that new variant, Master Reset (not Factory Reset) -- then you can update from there. That's how you got from AT&T firmware to US998 in the first place, right?

At what point in the process would I flash the Verizon Pie KDZ? Would it be after Step 4, flashing the Oreo US998 in Upgrade Mode? And do I flash the VZW Pie KDZ in Upgrade or Partition DL?

At what point in the process would I flash the Verizon Pie KDZ? Would it be after Step 4, flashing the Oreo US998 in Upgrade Mode? And do I flash the VZW Pie KDZ in Upgrade or Partition DL?

1) From US998 Oreo (you're on that right now, correct?), flash VS996 Nougat via Dev Patched LGUP in Partition DL mode.
2) Master Reset (which is not Factory Reset).
3) Then flash VS996 Pie in Partition DL mode. (Upgrade mode might work. But try Partition DL mode first.)

Alternatively if you had unlocked bootloader and have TWRP custom recovery, then you could install the VS996 Pie TWRP flashable zip straight from US998 Oreo.

Are you a Verizon customer? Is this why you want VS996 firmware? You have an already-activated Verizon SIM card?

I am having the same problem. Just switched from AT&T to Verizon. I followed the Frankenstein method (1. Flashed VS996 Nougat, 2. Master Reset, and 3. Flashed Pie using both Refurbish and Partition DL mode); both gave me the same result. After the red Hello, I get the Verizon with four animating dots @ full screen brightness. I let it sits for 30 minutes and nothing happen. I repeated the steps above and replaced step 3 with Oreo and it works fine. Then I perform an OTA update. Update 13 was applied okay, but Update 14 included Pie and after installing the update and reboot; it is stuck on the Verizon screen again. I also tried US998 Pie and it had the same problem.
Anyone has any idea on how to fit it?
I accidentally upgraded my H831 to Oreo and I hate it - it doesn't have night mode anymore, and I've been getting crazy headaches because of it, even with other screen filters installed.
I want to use LGUP to downgrade back to Nougat, but all of the KDZ firmware versions I keep finding are sorted by carrier, and my carrier (AT&T) isn't among them.
Is there any way to go back to Nougat, or am I stuck with Oreo now?
Edit: To be clear, I don't actually use AT&T - I have a sim from RedPocket Mobile - but I know that this phone was the AT&T version of the H831. At least, that's what the listing said when I bought it.
