Downgrading H831 to Nougat? - LG G5 Questions & Answers

I accidentally upgraded my H831 to Oreo and I hate it - it doesn't have night mode anymore, and I've been getting crazy headaches because of it, even with other screen filters installed.
I want to use LGUP to downgrade back to Nougat, but all of the KDZ firmware versions I keep finding are sorted by carrier, and my carrier (AT&T) isn't among them.
Is there any way to go back to Nougat, or am I stuck with Oreo now?
Edit: To be clear, I don't actually use AT&T - I have a sim from RedPocket Mobile - but I know that this phone was the AT&T version of the H831. At least, that's what the listing said when I bought it.

LG G3 trouble rooting on 47A

So I have rooted 4 other G3 phones over the last 2 years but they were on older firmware. I have a G3 on 47A and for the life of me cannot get LGUP Tool to recognize the phone. The info on the forum is spread around several diff posts with numerous links. Looking for some help here to get this one downgraded to 10B so I can install TWRP and XDEBB's rom.

Kingroot is the only way to root Marshmallow, but I don't even know if you can root 47A that way depending on the model. To see what model number you have, open the back, take out the battery and look at the Model Number on the sticker in the battery compartment. If it ends in a K, you will be unable to downgrade and Kingroot is the only option, but I believe it's been determined that the Kingroot exploit is patched on the K models.
The typical way now for the VS985 G3 is to TOT flash back to 10B and root with Stump on non-K models or Kingroot on 47A. There are some Marshmallow custom ROMs (stock and AOSP) you can flash after downgrading to 10B and flashing the proper bootstack, but that also depends on the model of the phone.
Dammit!! I just bought a used G3 to get away from a locked up VZW phone (I have a S5) . Guess I'll see if I can cancel the order!! Thought 47A was OK, but the K is the killer.....

You SHOULD be able to root 47A. 48A has been confirmed to not be rootable by Kingroot. And 49A will more than likely be the same, unless they made a mistake and included the exploit from 47A back into 49A.
With the K models, you cannot downgrade before Marshmallow, so you will be unable to KDZ or TOT flash back to 10B where you can root with Stump root and install TWRP. TWRP will not work I believe with 47A because you have to be able to flash a prior boot partition, which you can no longer do with the K models of this phone.

Thanks for the info! I guess I'm still out of luck though with no recovery, unless there is another method to back up and apply ROMs. Sorry for my ignorance I have been rooting Samsung (typing on an S3 on MM now) and HTC for years, this was to be my first LG and I seem to have bought a tough model to deal with. All the reading around makes the K model seem like fort knox.
Guess I'll sell it back on Swappa or Amazon when it arrives in a few days...

Nope. If you are on a K model of the phone (which was released this year I believe), you cannot flash back to 10B which would then allow you to install the bumped TWRP recovery. TWRP is not compatible with the 47/48/49A versions of the software and the K models cannot be flashed back to pre-Marshmallow images (that is, version before 47A).

VS985 from Ebay

Hello and good day,
Just got my new almost mint condition LG G3 VS985, this is a replacement for my Old D851 but as far as I start using it I just realize how different this new baby is from my previous loved one starting with the locked Bootloader, then I realize Im not able to download any Ota, this baby came with 47A, so I downgrade to 10B, everything is running great with KitKat but so far Im not able to update for any way using OTA or even LG Update tool is not able to recognize the phone, so Im kind of jammed in 10B.
Then I root it and install TWRP, my question is if I install TOT file with 10B version, Will I ever be able to download OTA over my At&T Network In Mexico? If not, is there any specific version you suggest me to stay On, I like stock but I have bloatware, also is there any Debloated Stock ROM such some for the D851?
Othe weird situation is that Im not able to enter download mode, Is there any chance this phone was a clone G3?
As I said this came with 47A, LGUP was able to downgrade to 10B so Im not sure what can be wrong.

Questions about how to manually upgrade my unlocked T-Mobile S9+ to the PIE manually.

OK, so I originally bought this S9+ from T-Mobile in the US, and I had it for two years, then I unlocked it, and switched to MetroPCS by T-Mobile, which really didn't need me to unlock it for that reason because the sim still would have worked as it's the same network. I joined the beta and am on the final beta build, and I've gotten these updates from T-Mobile still. However, today T-Mobile finally released the finished version of Pie, but tons of people on Reddit that weren't in Beta are getting it, but us in Beta aren't getting it.
I'm currently on G965USQU3ZRLG, and I want to downgrade back to what the version was before I joined Beta so I can get the update. I know I'm a senior member and have been on here for a while, but I haven't really done much phone modding in years, and I'm getting older -- which is coming with a **** memory, lol -- and I forget how to do a lot.
I can downgrade with Odin to the pre-Beta version without tripping Knox right? The whole point of me doing this is I assume at that point when I go into my settings and check for an update it will be available, because right now I have nada.
Any help is appreciated.
I am on the same boat as you. I have an unlocked AT&T S9+ on T-mobile, it will not get the update what so ever. From what I have been reading the phone will not push out a official OTA carrier update unless you have an activated SIM from the carrier the phone was pre-configured to. I'm guessing you can either sideload or Odin the latest rom but I've haven't found a website that host either AT&T or T-mobile roms.

I'm trying to find the firmware G965USQU3BRJ5 because I can downgrade to it in Odin, then I should be able to download the Pie update normally, but every ****ing site with that firmware for download has a slow download if you're a free member, which will take like a day, and for a fast download you have to pay to become a member -- even on Sammobile. I tried to find that firmware download on here but couldn't. Ugh.
My best advice is finding someone with at active Tmobile SIM card that you can borrow for a few hours and giving it a try.
Update: I used Odin to downgrade to the firmware before the OneUI beta, and my phone was decrtyped, and Odin successfully flashed the old firmware, but when I enter my password it verifies it to decrypt, but it stays on the decrypting Icon with the unlocked padlock icon and the circle going around it forever, it's been 40 minutes and it's still on that same screen. Any ideas on how to fix this?

LG V30+ (LG-US998) not able to update OTA

I picked up a new in box factory unlocked LG V30+ (LG-US998) on Amazon pretty cheap in December. What I didn't realize it that it is just running android 7.1.2 not 8 which I believe is the most current version available. I bought the unlocked version to avoid all the AT&T bloatware, but now I'm realizing it won't update OTA to the newest OS and is probably behind on security updates. Does anyone know what I need to do to get the phone to update OTA. I'm not interested in a custom rom or any of that, so if that means I need to flash the AT&T stock rom (with their bloatware) that's fine. I just want the phone to get OTA updates. I tried using the LG software to update it and it doesn't recognize the phone.
Refer to these two threads. Read through them, ignore the part about rooting if you won't be doing that.

You just need to update to latest US998 KDZ via software called LGUP.
See link below. You want steps 4 and 5.
FRANKENSTEIN INSTRUCTIONS
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76510671&postcount=168
Yes, those instructions are for converting to US998 -- but steps 4 and 5 still apply to someone just wanting to update US998 to most current firmware.
Install LGUP, download latest US998 KDZ (links provided), flash via Update mode. Easy.

An even better answer:

Just go to the US998 Oreo KDZ thread, install the LGUP attached there and download latest KDZ to update. Install via "Upgrade" mode in LGUP.

I read through but I'm a bit unsure of what I need to do. Do I need to unlock the bootloader or root it? I'm not interested in rooting it. Do I just download US99820h_00_0318.kdz and use the patched LGUP to install / flash it to my phone? I'm not sure where to get the proper patched version of LGUP to do this.

Yes, that's exactly what you do. It's like a manual OTA. You have the file, you use Upgrade mode with Dev Patched LGUP (which is more powerful than stock LGUP).

I had this same issue with my phone... Wouldn't ever get OTA updates... Honestly, the easiest way to get updates outside the kdz and lgup is to use the twrp stock builds. They're stock V30, you can get them without bloatware (US-998), and updating them is a piece of cake once you know what you're doing... In my case, the lack of updates seemed to have something to do with the fact that my device was somehow a Sprint device, blah blah blah....
Anyways, TWRP stock builds is the way to go... I'm currently running the Tmobile stock build and it's fine and does whatever I need it to... I like it better than custom

But they don't want to unlock bootloader and root, so I'm telling them the easy LGUP Upgrade mode method with latest US998 KDZ.
I agree TWRP flashable zip is fantastic. I use it, but for my wife's phone which is not bootloader unlocked or rooted (and my sister's phone also), the LGUP/KDZ method is where they need.

I hate to resurrect such an old post, but I never got around to doing this. Now that the quarantine is in place I have time. Is there a newer version of the kdz that I should use (probably Pie)? I'm guessing there's a newer version of LGUP (modified) as well?
Let me make sure I understand this too. I can use the modified version of LGUP to flash the newer kdz to my phone using the "upgrade" option and it keeps all the data currently on my phone, right? If later I wanted to do a factory reset on my phone, that would wipe the data but still retain the newer kdz that was installed, correct?

For US998, I only recommend updating to last Oreo 20h. I'm rooted, still on that. My wife, mother, sister, brother in law who are all NOT Bootloader Unlocked/Rooted are all still on that, also.
The one US998 Pie KDZ we received is very wonky. It's technically for U.S. Cellular. LG never released Pie KDZ for Open Market. Charging is slower, other things broken if you use other carriers.
Many people find it hard to update to, and if you have problems most of the workarounds depend on having TWRP.
I strongly recommend stable last Oreo 20h.
Yes, there is newer version of Dev Patched LGUP. I have it posted in the US998 Oreo and Pie KDZ threads, as well as Frankenstein.
Yes, if the use Upgrade mode you keep your data as long as you are already on earlier same firmware, in this case US998.

V30+ converted, now trying to go back

Hi I have a V30+ unlocked US998 which I flashed to verizon with the VS996 flash and the stock verizon pie rom. Now I switched service and my new phone crapped out and I want to go back to this phone but I need it to go back to T-Mobile bands. Using Uppercut for LGUP it wont flash back to US99830b, it says ERROR KDZ file is invalid VS996 -> US998. I tried all options including PRL Write but even though that one says success the phone is still on VS99630c. How can I flash it back to use for T-Mobile and then do I need to use a specific ROM as well since this one says "SIM card is not verizon wireless" ? Thanks.
ok flashed the twrp zip to get back to us99830b but i still cannot connect to tmobile. whenver i enter the access point info for the APN manually it never saves. How do you force it to save, yes i hit save....
ok got the APN to save and it is selected but I still cannot connect. Do I need a different ROM?

1) We don't use Uppercut on the V30 phones. (Uppercut would work only on Nougat, not Oreo or Pie. Once you got to Oreo or later it's useless.) You use LGUP, preferably dev patched LGUP. See Frankenstein instructions.
2) SIM card not Verizon wireless is a nag message. It will still work. Or should still work.
3) Right now T-Mobile is not giving VoLTE/VoWIFI to older phones like the V30, UNLESS it's their own T-Mobile H932. And you cannot flash that firmware to any non-H932 V30 without bricking it totally.
