In a big downgrade, the latest Google Camera reduced the wide angle from .6 down to .7 so we're getting about 15% less area.
Comparison: https://ibb.co/Lr970jC
Here's an approximation of how much is lost:

I think you have to point out which version of the Google Camera you refer to. I am still on 8.5 and it shows 0.7 as selection.
I assume, you refer to v8.6 for Android 13.

Yes it's latest camera on android 13 . But .6 is what it "should" show, not .7
i am still on 8.5 android 12 and i see 0.7x. As a matter of fact i remember it always being at 0.7x since i got my pixel last month.
Are you sure it was at 0.6 at some point?
Yes. See the comparison images above. Those were shot with the two different versions. I uninstalled the camera update and goes back to .6. (see image below). For me it's very disappointing. Is it life changing? No, but it is a large difference and narrows the gap between the regular camera and the wide. I guess I'll just stay on old version of camera... Laaaaame. If you're interested, try uninstalling camera updates and see if you get .6

Just updated to A13 Stable and got the update to Google Camera 8.6. Still have 0.7 showing and no reduction of the FOV. Must be a Beta thing

.6 is what it was on Android 12 stable, 13 Beta and 13 stable. It's the newer camera app, nothing to do with android version.
.7 is reduced FOV, you're losing 15% if shows .7
No, I never had 0.6 on A12, always 0.7. What Pixel are you using?
Cheers
Tom
Pixel 6a. What saying is you're losing 15% from what the FOV of the camera should/could be. If never had .6 then never had the camera app which gave the full FOV, which possibly the 6 and 6 pro never had a camera version with .6. Have you tried uninstalling all updates to Camera yet?
Anyone interested to try for .6, I've exported my APK. You'll have to uninstall your current version in Play store and whatever version it reverts to probably needs to be older than or equal to 8.5

Then maybe this is a topic for Pixel 6a. Here is the Pixel 6 topic.
I am not disputing that you have that issue, just it's not happening on Pixel 6.
Cheers
Tom
It's already happening on Pixel 6. You have a wide-angle camera shooting at .7 when it's capable of .6
They are the same wide angle camera. I'm guessing you haven't actually tried to uninstall your camera updates nor tried to install the APK I uploaded...??
I will post over there as well, thanks for link to 6a forum.
Umm, that was like that already from the beginning. Always 0.7.
What makes you think the Pixel 6 camera is capable of 0.6?
Even I try to manually zoom out, it stops at 0.7.
The wide angle FOV is the the same of 114°, but the Pixel 6 has a standard FOV of 82°, while the 6a has a standard FOV of 77°.
And yes, I compared yesterday with an object in A12 and camera v8.5 and today with A13 and the update to v8.6 on the same object. No difference.
Maybe previously you didn't have wide-angle FOV of 114° with the Pixel 6a.
Cheers
Tom
Edit: after all this, it does seem can zoom out with the new version. Starts at .7 but can zoom out to .6. Weird
Weird your version is 8.5.200.429413596.06 and I reverted to stock and mine is 8.5.300. 8.5.200 isn't available on apkmirror.
In any case, I installed Open Camera and switched it to use Camera API2, it can only zoom down to .68 which is the same image as the Google Camera's .7 can capture. I tried several other camera apps and same result.
i don't recall seeing a .6 FoV ever and I've had this phone since launch. I'm on June update of the P6. And I can't downgrade to your version to see if there's a difference.
I can confirm the problem is real as posted by op. I have a p5a and since updating to a13 the ultra wide has gone from 0.6x to 0.7x. Now probably this is related to the app version and not to a13 itself but I can CONFIRM my p5a used to support 0.6x.
I uninstalled updates as op suggested and 0.6x did indeed come back.
Most phones in 2022 support 0.5x. 0.6x seems like the minimum a phone should support. But now with camera update, google decreasing it to even 0.7x doesn't make sense.
my camera is on 8.3.252.3911 i don't think i ever updated it (because i don't care)and its .7
whatever that is worth -pixel6 global
For me it was .7 since I have Pixel 6.
It never was .6

Lets clear something up about the cameras on these things. They do NOT zoom to very exacting 1 decimal place.
This is on a pixel 6 pro, but similar idea should apply to ALL;
Code:
adb shell dumpsys media.camera | grep zoom -A1
android.control.zoomRatioRange (1002e): float[2]
[0.67044258 20.00000000 ]
--
android.control.zoomRatioRange (1002e): float[2]
[1.00000000 20.00000000 ]
--
android.control.zoomRatioRange (1002e): float[2]
[1.00000000 20.00000000 ]
--
android.control.zoomRatioRange (1002e): float[2]
[1.00000000 20.00000000 ]
--
android.control.zoomRatioRange (1002e): float[2]
[0.84999305 10.00000000 ]
--
android.control.zoomRatioRange (1002e): float[2]
[1.00000000 10.00000000 ]
--
android.control.zoomRatioRange (1002e): float[2]
[1.00000000 10.00000000 ]
--
android.control.zoomRatio (1002f): float[1]
[1.00000000 ]
--
android.control.zoomRatio (1002f): float[1]
[1.00000000 ]
Now as you can see, the minimum zoom ratio on one of the cameras is "0.67044258", which is in between 0.6 and 0.7. So depending on how the software wants to present it, it can ROUND it UP to 0.7 or ROUND it DOWN to 0.6.
The software choice of rounding has ABSOLUTELY NO BEARING on what the actual minimum zoom level is.
I'm running Android 13, but there doesn't appear to be any difference in the actual images between the cameras with the lastest updates applied and having them removed.
I will say that I did see a difference between what you see on the camera's screen and what the camera actually takes at certain times. The screen at the widest camera setting (which shows as "0.7x" both on the latest update and not) is not as wide as the actual camera ends up taking. I'm wondering if the people that have noticed this have simply been viewing the screen, or have actually compared images taken from before the "issue" appeared vs now. I suspect there is a bug that is preventing the preview screen from showing the actual wide angle camera coverage, but that the camera actually takes the correct wide image. However the camera always took the "wide" image even when the preview screen did not correctly show the widest view before taking the image.
Currently (after I reinstalled the camera updates), my screen and actual picture show the same field of view on the widest setting, but several times during this process of uninstalling the updates and reinstalling the updates, the two fields of view did not match and the screen showed a more narrow field of view. I even tried force stopping the camera and it did not change or fix this issue.
EDIT - I will also say that checking the meta data for the wide angle camera for images taken under Android 12 and now under Android 13 (with and without the camera updates installed) all show 2.35mm. Now it would be hard for me to reproduce wide angle images taken under Android 12 now that I am on Android 13 (because I wouldn't be standing in the exact spot to take the Android 13 images), but I suspect there really isn't any difference between the actual images. I think any visual differences are only occurring on the camera's preview screen.

I've installed Google Camera 3.2, the last version compatible with Marshmallow. I really like the app as its fast and simple. I tried taking pictures with Google Camera Lens Blur but the pictures are taken with very low quality and there are no options for me to change the Resolution. I tried with v2.7 as well and it has the same result. Does anyone else have this problem?
It looks like LOS can't handle lens blur at high quality, you should ask the dev of LOS about it!

As far as I know, Google Camera v3.2 is the last that is supported by Marshmallow.
Google Camera v4.0 and above required Nougat and newer versions
It's a pity cause I love the Lens Blur feature but all the photos from Lens Blur has very low resolution.

Hi,
I've recently been playing around with various cameras under LOS on the Axon 7.
I've been experimenting with Snap (built in LOS camera), Open Camera, A Better Camera and Footej Camera.
Simply installing the apps and using the default options yields the following order (best to worst):
A Better Camera
Open Camera & Footej Camera (tied 2nd place)
Snap camera
However, by tweaking some of the options in Snap camera, I've been able to get consistently better images than any of the other apps using their defaults.
To improve the quality of Snap make the following tweaks:
- Set Picture Quality to High
- Set ISO to Auto HJR
- Set Contrast to Level 6
- Set Sharpness to Level 3
- Set Auto Exposure to Centre Weighted
I've done side by side comparisons of the four apps and I've found that Snap leads the pack with the tweaked settings. As an aside, I used the app PhotoGrid to create the zoomed side by side images.
I'd be interested to hear back from others re: their experiences using the tweaks to improve image quality.
One final note, I also tried using the Axon 7 stock B04 camera on LOS, but it was consistently worse than any of he other four options so I removed it. There is a magisk module for B04 if you want to try this for yourself.
Regards,
jamesK
Here are some comparison images. For each image the apps are represented in the following order:
Footej Camera - A Better Camera
Open Camera - Snap Camera (with tweaks)
I have tried your settings and the results with snap camera were a bit better.
Because I ve used high resolution mode the differences where less significant.
I tried a comparison with axon 7 camera mod for LOS and it's quality is still the best in my opinion.
1. Snap @ high res settings
2. Snap @ your settings
3. Axon 7 camera mod (Tapatalk app bug uploads media to his own server.)

Hi,
Thank you for taking the time to test.
Your first image was noticeably better than the other two (you could see the marks on the thermometer).
Are you using B05, B04 or some other version of the LOS camera mod?
I tried the B04 magisk version of the mod but didn't find that it produced good results. Perhaps I should try B05.
Regards,
JamesK
I am using b04 Magisk by kingo.
Ive used the screenshot function on my device. Cropping images resulted in lower image quality.
I took a look on the numbers of the thermometer and on my devices screen I had the best images with zte cam.
One small note. The object is appx 3 meters away from me and the pictures were taken after tap focusing the object.

Thank you for the details. The only difference with the images I attached is that I zoomed to 100‰ on the original images.
As mentioned, when I tried this with B04, the image quality was not as good as the other camera apps.
I'll reinstall it and try again. Perhaps. I overlooked something.
Thanks again for your feedback
Since there is no such thread here yet, I wanted to start discussion about using modded Google Camera from this thread on Nokia 8 (mostly what's best configuration and version).
What doesn't work:
- Slow Motion in 6.1.x
- HDR+ in 6.1.x when number of shots is set higher than 20
What works:
- HDR+ (including auto HDR with ZSL on both front and rear cameras)
- Night Sight (only on 6.1.x ports and higher)
- Portrait mode on both front and rear cameras (replaces lens blur mode from older versions of Google Camera)
- Motion Pictures (only on Oreo and higher and only with rear camera set to 16:9 ratio and flash disabled)
- Slow Motion video recording (only on 5.x GCam, broken again on 6.1.x ports)
- Spherical photos
- Panorama
AR Playground (only with 6.1.x ports, you must also install ARCore first)
Recommended for Pie (based on GCam 6.1.x): MGC_6.1.021_BSG_Arnova-based_v.1.2_TlnNeun.apk
Recommended for Oreo (based on GCam 5.x): GoogleCamera-Pixel2Mod-Arnova8G2-V8.apk

I just downloaded the version on Apotide and I don't really see anything outstanding from the first look.
What are the main benefits of Google Camera vs stock Nokia?
Should I download a different version of Google Camera from somewhere?
Sent from my TA-1012 using Tapatalk
Main benefit is better HDR algorithm and thus better photos in low light conditions. I also think that auto focus in Google Camera works better (it's easier to get focus on the point you want and it stays there until you take a photo) or something else that makes photos from Google Camera less blurry than ones from Nokia Camera.
As for the versions - since they are mostly made for OnePlus, some version work better, some worse with other smartphones as they contain modifications for specific models.
I really miss the HDR from Nokia / Microsoft Lumia.. The pictures were always amazing compared to my wife's iPhone.
Will give Google camera a proper test and see how it goes.

I finally got Oreo update and those colorful lines (artifacts) are gone, so it seems to be a bug on Nougat only.
Yes I noticed the colour artifacts are gone too. I have the BSC and Arnova apps both installed. I use the BSC app with high parameters for still or more detailed shots and the Arnova is my quicklaunch camera, set to 8mp with Motion Photos enabled and HDR parameters set to default. I also turn camera.faces and camera.shot_tracking on in developer settings.

Pixels don't have a card slot, which is why the app has no option written into it to save to SD card.
Ah good point.
This is frustrating for me but I will test the app a bit more to see if the image quality makes up for this.

You do have 64GB or 128GB internal to play with, so at the very least you could just occasionally open Google's FilesGo app and tick the 'move to SD' option, or use Google Photos' delete from device option if you're happy to have them in the cloud.
Since installing the G camera apk both stock and G camera are taking too long to open and constantly hanging and making the phone unresponsive so I have unistalled it for now.
I'll try one of the other versions later.
Google Camera producing much better detailed photos compared to Nokia camera app. For sure, the images have more noise, less sharpness and bigger filesize. But at least it has more details, more smoothness and less jaggy pixels.
When I need better images, I use my 808PV.
Using GCam 5.1 Arnova v1.0 on Nokia Oreo.
Small comparison I made. There's a big difference in favor of the Google camera.
Been using it from day 1, Back camera indeed captures better photos compared to stock app

So it has been awhile since I tinker with Gcam, and now that I have finished the modding of it and no longer have my Mix 3, I will upload the final copy of Gcam. As usual thanks to everyone from defcomg, cstark27, san1tyy, xtreme, bsg, zoran.

Changelog:
-added corrected black level for most shots. Bl corrected for 1/30 shutter so you will have slight tint on slow shutter at extreme low light conditions.
-modified xlib2 to remove tint, and noise
-new menu and icons
Bugs:
-sometimes hdr+ enhanced at 40 frames or 36 frames will not save the first shot, but shot afterwards will save. Tried to find a fix but cannot so use lower frames for most stability, ie.. 25 or so.
Feb 7th, 2019
Update: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1IKGyubiBrdqWVp_gQfmTLaA8HErtoyk7
-added lens blur mode courtesy of san1tyy to take picture of objects and animals
Recommended settings:
-Rear camera set to Pixel 3 XL
-Processing set to 2018 zslr hdr+
-set frames to 40 for min and max for best low light shot (will take some time to process), or set to 20 for both for quick shots
-hdr+ enhance and night sight set min iso compensation to 1/3 or 1/4 s for best shot, but hands have to be still as possible
-exposure compensation to +0.6
-chose Xlib for lib choice
So several have stated that shutter isn't working on global rom, and some other Mix flagship such as Mix 2/2S doesn't work so with help from san1tyy, metadata was cleaned up and should be working now
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1hu9tm0ZSMI3F645rSr2wXq3HhMRP5DUp

After bunch of trials and error, lib modding here and there, finally got a working stable version with some new changes with help from Zoran, Savitar, Xtreme, and San1tyy . Lib modding for awb using different calibrations from various devices would not play nice due to either unsaturated or nuclear saturation, especially from S9 series, so I just left it stock for now. Here's the new apk: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1scOaLD8_eeZEdlaR6q1lCXzUSLtb6miB
Changes:
-added compensation exposure
-new lib (Xlib) with sharpened decreased
-frames changed to 40 instead of 45 due to exif cache size error and won't save image
-qc color awb works finally without the yellow tint, thanks big time to Savitar
-UI changes
enjoy guys and donation are welcome so I can get more devices to work on. Paypal: [email protected]
The iso slider had an issue, and wouldn't capture. Also sabre and pixel 3 awb was not included so this version is updated to include it
https://drive.google.com/open?id=11ORyhdqIjFXNlZFsdfA0NDEW8auU3aNr
So sliders had some issue of not triggering for both iso and focus. After multiple test trials, san1tyy and defcomg pulled through again and got it working! APK is also cleaned up to only include Edzman v3, savitar v2, and stock google libs. Enjoy guys.

Make sure you are on the latest global beta from Xiaomi, or the latest beta from xiaomi.eu for camera not to lag in viewfinder and processing HDR+. This mod is based on BSG's latest version with working telephoto lens. Thanks to the great defcomg, xtreme and san1tyy over at telegram, here are the changes:
-added 45 frames, and 50 frames. The 50 frames will cause viewfinder to flicker like crazy but it does works.
-removed ISO limit of 9600 because stock camera can go up to 19000+ iso
-long exposure added for up to 32 seconds in hdr+ enhanced and night sight
-manual focus sliders and exposure sliders
Slo motion should work, motion photo do not work because of lib issue from xiaomi. For configs, use Pixel XL for rear camera, processing use 2018 zlsr+, front camera can use Pixel 3 XL. Using Pixel XL gives correct awb vs Pixel 3 XL which gives a true to life color at night time with low lighting (ie.. 5 to 10 lux).

Any news on the global stable update?

Hi xterminater07, Thanks for your work! Its impressive! I use this version of gcam for my LG G6 and works great but I have some doubts about the 32s long exposure. Could you tell me what file inside the gcam package can I modify to try other configurations? I decompile the apk but I cant find where the parameters are for the amount of seconds depending on the lux. Thanks!!!
PD: Sorry for my bad english
All the lags and slowness disappeared after the latest global update (received the ota and updated an hour ago), now when I tried night Sight, taking multiple shots in a row etc etc there are no lags whatsoever anymore for me!
I was just about to flash the EU rom to fix the lags but no need anymore!

I noticed that it does not work for small objects, but works well with people. I guess the subject has to be far enough for portrait mode to actually work.
Regarding the telephoto lens, there seems to be no noise reduction applied to it, unlike the main lens. This results in very grainy photos especially during the night. Can you add noise reduction, or an option for it for both lenses in the settings? Thanks

Thank you for this, i was just trying to figure this out haha.
Does portrait mode work on your Mix 3? When i select portrait it zooms-in and only makes one photo while it says 'burst images'. When i disable zoom on portrait the only thing that seems to change is the zoom, but no acutal portrait shot. Well.. it seems the same as a normal photo

Works fine for me, but only for actual portrait photography. It can't recognise objects.

have you tried clicking on the resulting image, if you open it, you will see a blurred one and the non-blurred editions.
so the resulting image is like a folder that when you open, it will have the blurred edition inside it.
Ive discovered that the newest Gcam port from the Pocophone thread also works on our Mix 3! It has more options like save in camera folder when taking portrait shots and so on... Everything works, is there any downside using it?
I'm totally speechless, today i swapped my S20 + for a OP8P, and TBH the camera is better but they where close.
I spent quite a bit of time, and as an avid GCAM user i tried MANY GCAM ports, all where pretty much crap, or not really better than stock, but, BUT! THAN, i found Parrot043 mod. I installed made my usual tweaks, and what i have saw is literally INSANE, this camera mod, literally destroy everything i have ever tried, and believe me i tried hundreds of them in my life.
1. If you have a previous GCAM, open the camera, hold and press on the icon on the homescreen, press app info, clear cache, and data.
2. Uninstall the app, reboot the phone. Than install Parrot 043 link > https://gofile.io/d/BpCWFx - also alternative host - https://easyupload.io/k6t42a
3. Go into the settings of the GCAM, turn on HDR enhanced, into advanced section, into HDR frames, and set 35, enable sabre, just under the HDR enhanced frames option.
4. Restart the camera app, go into darkness, take a photo with your camera app, and than take a photo with the GCAM mod, BE AMAZED.
P.S. Do not touch anything else, maybe turn on H265 for videos, and 4K for the back camera, increase video bitrate to 50mbps + and that's it.
P.P.S. ALWAYS make sure you have HDR enhanced on! it makes taking moving objects harder/blurry, but for low light its EPIC.
And here is camera comparasion of stock, night mode, and GCAM

1. What phone are you using?
2. Did you follow the steps suggested?
3. Do you have GCAM folder, with some configs installed?
4. Try with sabre off.

OnePlus 8 Pro IN2025 10.5.8 xXx rom currently.
Had gcam installed from xXx, force stopped, cleared data, uninstalled with reflashing rom to remove as system app, then rebooted. Installed the other. Tried clearing data, rebooting again, made the one you recommended a system priv app, but it keeps crashing the moment I open it. I can't even open settings, because it crashes on open.
I have tried modifying the permissions, tried a previous version, still crashes on start. At the time, no other gcam folder.

Its the sabre i think, you need to somehow turn it off, sometimes older GCAM ports mix with new and bugs happen, its either that, or its the sabre. In order to fix this, IF IT IS THE SABRE, you will need to wipe cache data from recovery or even FORMAT the phone, look at the photos, the upgrade is ENORMOUS, but it depends of how much you need it, i would suggest for someone with the same version as your model/firmware, test the mod to see if its the sabre or not, i had this issue on my Mi Note 10, all GCAM ports looked the same, no improvements, i tried everything only the format make the settings change post installation.
EDIT, it might be even the rom! i just saw you are on custom, sorry buddy.
Always keen to give GCAM a go (not sure why i have such a soft spot for it lol)...
Anyways, thanks for sharing this. Attached are a few samples of me jumping into a store room with the door slightly opened (it's pretty dim inside).

I can confirm it's related to the xXx rom. Uninstalled completely and the camera installed and worked fine, but when you reinstall the camera breaks.

Interesting. I wonder what is causing it to break?

I'm curious myself. After confirming, I installed other modded camera apk's and they work correctly.
This thread has me very interested.. @xXx - any chance you could glance at this at some point and see if it warrants inclusion in an xXx magisk rom future update? No pressure, just a thought. Some of the picture samples do indeed appear impressive! Thank you!!
Thanks for sharing this, will look deeper into it (presently on Urnyx GCam port).... Just as an info:
This GCam and many more ports are on Celsozavedos excellent Gcam Port hub !

The difference is much more apparent when there is less light, but even here the GCAM is superior. Can you post full res photos please? thanks.

Urnyx is also great and stable, but sadly it lacks exposure in low light, (darker photos) and the noise reduction can kill details. Parrot can see where eyes cannot, very good.
OP camera is better in low light than this, and you can't use any of the other cameras, so until they solve that problem for the OP 8 pro I'll be sticking to the stock camera.
You lose more functionality than you gain in picture quality.

Figured out the same. Low light is way to sharp and dark.

And yes you lose ability of other cameras.
But for the moment this gcam is my friend in making low light pictures ?????
Thanks for sharing

Hello. But this is good only for the night photo or is good in every situation? What is sabre option? We dont need to choose an xml file? Thanks and i like this tipe of treadh
mhhh i actually tried different google gcams but until now - and since the last update - the stock cam is the best one for me, just in case with a lot of ( direct sun)light (google gcam often blows the sky just into white) and also in dark environments the stock cam is better than the gcam. But i think, gcams and stock cam could be better with updates over time, the software for the sensor has a much higher optimization potential.

This GCAM is different. Havent tested it alot in daylight, but it should win even in daylight. No the stock camera is not even close to being better or equal to GCAM, you can see in the picture, or test by yourself.

No need for XML.
Sabre is a better HDR merge metod, it should offers better details especially in low light. Should be in every situation, test it, you got nothing to lose.

What do you mean better than this, are you claiming that i did something wrong with the stock pictures?
And this camera mod is mostly for low light/night mode, you don't need to use it solo and not having the option to use other cameras, you can use both, you use GCAM for low light, and other cameras as needed.
Try it with the settings suggested, and you will forget that the main camera exist in low light.

This camera destroys Urnyx in low light, its like 2 gen ahead. I tested it last night, took like 3 photos, and deleted Urnyx instantly, its not even close.

Why Do you hype this camera when a lot of people tell something different? I tried the mod already and as I said, the Stock cam is better (for me) also in lowlight. I tested it in a very dark room. Also for daylight shots Stock is a way better, just in the view of sharphness.
So, your hyped gcam mod isn't the mother of all cam apps...
Update: I tested again in another Environment and again, Stock is a lot better. Not sure what's wrong with your Stock cam. Are you running the latest Version? ??Seems there is anything wrong on your side. I for myself can't share your opinion.
