Shutdown and power issues - LG G8X ThinQ Questions & Answers

Hello dear tech enthusiasts,
I'm having very weird issues with my LG G8X ThinQ. It started when I connected the phone to a car for AA, the phone shut down. When powering on again, the screen would flicker very slightly, barely noticable. and then shut down again. This would persist for a couple of minutes untill I noticed the screen didn't flicker anymore and the phone would resume operation. I also noticed the phone being very hot.
It also started happening when charging the phone wireless. Not during charge, but when starting or ending the charge. Also with regular wall charge, or any car model charge. Recently, the phone started showing these symptons out of the ordinary, wtihout any charge happening. Symptons are usually the same, high temps and flickering screen when rebooting. The phone did not slow down in perfomance noticeably.
I really love this phone, powerfull, nice battery, good screen. I really do not want discard it over something weird. I tried sending it in for repair twice but those companies are clueless and I got it back (after several weeks) with "there's nothing wrong".
Looking for help or advice on how to adress this problem.
Thanks in advance!

battery problem

so every once in a while, i'd say every 4 or 5 days... i'll take my phone off the charger and start my day like normal. but on these days, (sometimes i notice and do a hard reset before all this happens) the upper half of the phone will get really warm and even if i do absolutely nothing on my phone, my battery will drain from full to dead in 3-4 hours.
has anyone else noticed this? i'm thinking it may be some sort of cpu cycle leak or some sort of infinite loop some background driver might get itself into.
its pretty annoying if i dont catch it right away and an hour after i unplug my phone while i'm at work to take my phone out of my pocket and have it over half battery gone already.

I have noticed the 'staying warm after charging sometimes' phenomenon....I also sometimes leave it charging all night but it doesn't seem to charge, even though the light is on. I think this is somehow connected to the wonky power button behavior...I get a green light on full charge sometime....i've never seen it turned green while powered off.....sometimes it won't turn on while plugged in, sometimes I need to do a battery pull, sometimes the SD card too, sometimes I need to press the power button a million times or hold it extra extra long....sometimes the charging light doesn't come on and it does charge, sometimes the light comes on and it doesn't...sometimes it gets really hot after charging and doesn't cool down after sitting idle....I usually just shut it off for a minute and turn it back on...somehow.
This is definitely one of my pet peeves with this phone...I also think this is linked to some phones never turning back on again, corrupted bootloader/recovery after a 'fastboot' shut-down or hot restart...
I'm diggin' the phone, don't get me wrong, but....I can't wait for the nPrime...
yeah, but it's less so the problem of it getting warm (pre or post charging) and moreso that it will start heating up a lot and you can tell that something is running the battery down in the background, the only way to stop this is to do a battery pull restart.
has anyone had similar issues with their phone going from full battery to dead in a few hours because of a hidden bugged process or something similar?
bump 10 char
I had that happen after tuning airplane mode off then back on. But that's itt
Sent from my HTC Evo 3D.
This happened to me this morning, first time and it was very weird. I've left it charging overnight per usual and this morning when I woke up and unplugged it, it had only 10% battery left. I tried charging it in my car on my way to work and have it plugged in to my computer USB now. I disabled a bunch of stuff as shown on this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1141221
And it's now starting to charge.
I did however just update to showdown rom and had setcpu on 1.7 conservative. It still should have charged but I'm guessing a stuck process/bug drew all the power last night.

Charging Failure

Hello all. It's been a long time since I've been to this section of XDA, glad to see it's still got some life left.
I'm trying to get my old i777 working so a friend of mine can borrow it. If I remember correctly, it was running an AOKP rom when I stored it well over a year ago, and it was fine. Today I went to turn it on, nothing. I started charging it, let it go for a few hours. It still won't turn on; instead it's acting a bit strange. Every few seconds the screen flashes either the gray battery charging logo, an instant dim flash of the entire screen (a slight gray, nothing bright), or the home/back/etc buttons flash for an instant. When the charge logo appears, the screen brightens just before it goes off. All buttons are unresponsive, my computer does not recognize it. I've been unsuccessful in finding any real help with Google and searching XDA. The only advice I found was to plug it in without the battery, then put the battery in. This did not help. Any feedback would be appreciated - this little phone has a lot of sentimental value to me. It's been through hell and back, it survived my ex (who managed to break a Nokia 3310 and Nokia 920). If I have to put it to rest, I guess it's earned it, but I'd like to keep it going for just a while longer.
Did you store it away with the battery in the phone? If so, in a year, the battery could be completely drained and in some cases, that can cause a problem with charging, as in will not charge. Possibilities to test, use a fully charged battery by charging the existing battery with an external charger, or by using another battery. This would be the first thing I would try.
I am also having such a problem from time to time, when my battery is complitely drained. I am using such a device to bring the battery back to life. Always helps.
I usually plug mine into a higher powered charger like my s6 one and that gets it out of the loop.

Hardware/Battery Problems

Hi XDA, wondering if anyone can help me out with an annoying problem.
I have a Galaxy Note Edge. Within about 8 months I've been experiencing random shut-downs.
Thinking it was battery related, I started there. The problem persisted. Thinking it was perhaps a wake-lock issue, I did a factory reset including cache clear, still have the problem.
Basically when I'm using the device it will randomly shut down. I could be checking my email or taking a pic, out of nowhere poof, off it goes. Battery will still say an arbitrary amount, today it was at 64%. But when I plugged it in, with the device off it said 0%.
I notice this happens often. If I charge my phone overnight it will stop charging at maybe 70%. Poor/wrong calibration?
Here's the thing though, even if the phone says 0% after shutting down, if I try to turn it on it will go into a boot loop for..well infinitely. Hours. So there's clearly still power. If I try to use my battery bank to charge it, it still won't get past the boot loop until I connect it to at least a 2.1amp charger.
I'm at a loss. There doesn't seem to be any obvious hardware issues. I've been scraping the interwebs for a good year but nothing has helped and I just live with it.
Running Android 5.1.1, stock, no dumb unoptimized apps. Someone please save my sanity? Cheers! E>

Charged battery at 0% or 5% even when charged on another device. Cannot boot.

So I have an odd issue here... I have a tmobile v10 that suddenly stopped working. Can't boot up or anything anymore. Here's some events (not in order) that have happened. I dropped my phone about 6 months ago and cracked the screen. Was fine up until about a month ago. I pulled it out of my pocket one day and it was off. Thought I had accidentally turned it off while in my pocket, so I went to power it back on, but nothing. It wouldn't boot up at all. Thought my battery died so I plugged it in, but again, nothing. for the next couple of days I was able to randomly get it to power up and boot up to the main home screen. After a few seconds it would freeze and then shut off on it's on, sometimes rebooting automatically, but never making it passed the "LG" splash screen. Any who, before all this the phone ran fine, no issues. I didn't update anything or add any odd ball apps. I got it to show some life when plugging into the computer via the lg usb cable with the battery removed, but as soon as I threw the battery back in and try to reboot, nothing.
The other odd thing I noticed is that when I threw a charged battery in it, it would kill the life of the battery (verified by placing a charged battery in the dead v10 and then after trying to boot, removing and placing back in my good v10 and checking battery life). It would always say it was either 0% or 5% when I put it back in the good v10. The batteries will still charge on the good v10 so I don't think the batteries are bad (one is a brand new LG brand battery).
I'm leaning towards the prongs being shot on the battery connector that's on the motherboard, rather than the charging port. Anyone ever have this issue or even hear of it? I did some searching online but realized I didn't even know what to look up to find what I was looking for.
Any help will be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.
Sorry for the story, just trying to give as much details as possible. I'm sure I forgot some stuff, but I'll edit/update as I remember them. Thanks.

PLEASE HELP! Moto Z won't power on at all/stuck on bootloop!

Hello, recently my phone was having some serious battery life issues. It started with just draining fast, then it would turn off prematurely at 10%, then 20%, then 50%, then it would basically not run without a charging cable. My fix was to just plug in a power bank and keep it like that, and it was working fine for a while. Then I noticed it wouldn't charge with the stock charger. I would plug it in, worked for a few minutes, get to 100%, turn off, then go down to ~95% and die. So I was only using it with my power bank.
Today, I plugged it in as usual, and it just started doing a bootloop. Then it just turned off and refused to work! It won't power on with neither the original charger or the powerbank. Add insult to injury, there's this tiny LED notification light I had never seen before that's blinking. Now it's not blinking any more. I just plugged in the powerbank and NOW it looks like it's working. Oh no, was too optimistic, it's back at the rebooting thing. It's just the first screen for 5-15 seconds, goes black, then repeats. God I hate this phone,
So now it's next to me just powering on and off. Please help, I would appreciate it greatly!
It's probably that your battery is just done. I had similar issues to you. My battery would drop a percent a minute or less while in use, and was shutting down at 50 percent or so.
I just got the battery replaced and it's back to how it was new. I had a z2 play that was laggy and likely had freezing issues due to minor water damage. I'm so much happier with my newly refurbished Z. It's just a much better and smoother phone, period.
The batteries are like 10 bucks. Just need someone to install it. The Moto z battery replacement is rated difficult, so I wouldn't attempt a DIY unless you're an experienced phone repair person. :good:
Good luck!
Yes battery is SNAFU, ie. normal Motorola's quality control.
I have the wireless charging mod, that causes similar boot loop when placed on charger.
Great when you have pattern to proceed boot security and your alarm fails in morning.
I am about to cremate this POS phone and all its mods once my Sony cheap interim phone arrives.. will not even consider supporting the Motorola eco system by selling on eBay.
