Hi everyone,
I've seen a couple of users in this forum in different threads mentioning that the volume rocker is a little loose on their devices. The same is true for my Zenfone 9 and I couldn't determine if the rocker was faulty or if this was just because of how it was designed. (In my case the rocker has a wriggle room about a millimeter or so vertically. I haven't experienced any rattle from the rocker when playing music from the speakers that others have mentioned.)
Anyway, I sent the phone to Asus' Czech repair centre to have it checked. I got the phone back today with the following repair report:
"Zenfone was accepted for repair with the problem that the volume button is not seated correctly. The problem did not appear. The phone was compared with the same model, and the buttons are seated properly."
So according to this the rocker is supposed to be a little loose (since they impossibly could've missed that mine is when comparing to another device). Not sure if I 100 % believe this, thinking that it should've been reported by more users if this was the case for all Zenfone 9 devices. But hopefully this means that if your volume rocker is, as mine, just a little loose there's no need to worry.
I hope it's OK that I started a new thread on this issue.
PS. I have also discussed this issue in the Zentalk forum (https://zentalk.asus.com/en/discussion/63091/play-in-volume-rocker-condensation-in-phone#latest).
This could help if the loose volume button still disturbs you:

The volume button is "fixed" by this cover. I have bought it because the cut for the buttons is smaler than stock. So its easier to hit the power button to unlock.
Same on my ZF9. A bit play up and down towards aux and charging port.

Hi all,
I've recently purchased this phone, my first android phone, and have been using it moderately for a couple of days now. It's an excellent phone, but I've just noticed that the power button, compared to the volume controls on the other side, feels slightly "pushed in".
It still works, and it still "clicks" if pushed in the center of the button, but it doesn't feel as snappy as the volume control buttons. I'm wondering if this is a defect in my model, or if it's normal.
I'd appreciate any feedback from other GS2 owners.

Same on mine,
but this is since Day one.
I think its made smaller/deeper so the chance for accidentally pushing the button is less.

SGS1 users complained about it sticking out to far .

I suppose it does make sense, although I'd prefer it had the same feeling as the volume controls. Just had to be sure it wasn't a fault in my particular model.
Thanks for the insight, guys.
I've recently purchased this great device from ebay and found out that the screen is a bit loose on the top. it's only something about 0.5mm and doesn't bother me at all. but the problem is that the volume control external button doesn't sit perfectly on the internal buttons so sometimes you press and they don't work.
I've notified ebay seller and he told me that's a known problem and that he could fix it for me. I just wonder if it's a small fix maybe I can do it on my own and save everyone the hassle of sending it back and fourth.
picture attached.
Mine does the same thing but it affects my proximity sensor. I have to push on the right upper corner when I want to hang up during a call, otherwise, phone thinks my ear is still up against the phone.

haven't tried that yet, so I can't tell if it's a problem.
I've had the same issue, both with the proximity sensor and the volume rocker. For me the top of the rocker is very loose and has to be pressed hard to get it to recognize. The proximity sensor, I found out, has a little cutout adhesive that is supposed to go between the sensor and the digitizer/lcd assembly.
Sometimes this gets shifted (for instance, when someone breaks their screen and decides it's a smart idea to replace it on their own like I did...) and you have to take care to place it back where you found it or you end up having to press the right corner of the screen to end your phone calls.
If anyone figures out how to repair the issue with the volume rocker, hit me up. I'm already knee deep in this thing, I might as well learn something new while I'm at it.
Is it just me or is the power button too flush to find and and too soft to press. I believe I will eventually get accustomed to its position which is a bit lower than on the GS2, but the rounded bezel and flushness seem to make it a bit hard to press sometimes. The volume rocker seems more click for some reason.

It's just you, you'll adjust to it eventually.
I had pretty much the same issue. Maybe a little worse. My power button had no "click" whatsoever. It would often get stuck in when I pressed it to shut the screen off and would then cause my phone to reboot over and over until I noticed.
This happened way more often than I would expect from a £500 phone, so I called Vodafone and explained the issue. They sent a person to deliver a brand new phone the next day and the power button on this one is much, much better. So if you think you could swing it as faulty hardware, which mine clearly was, then I'd recommend getting it replaced.
Is your power button much flusher than the volume rocker? Mine seems so.

I think it's just you.... ive played with over a dozen S3s and all the volume buttons are clickier than the power buttons.
I am having an issue with my top volume button, it seems a bit sticky.
My power mutton is crap also, no click at all. I have samsung's slim case ant it's very hard to press power button. I bought that phone only 4 days ago, so i don't want to send it to repair service, it takes usually about 2-4 weeks

You shouldn't need to send it away for warranty repair, the button seems faulty, I would get it replaced. I have similar issues with mine, the power button is spongy and creaks. I will receive a door to door replacement today. Don't sell yourself short mate
yh its too flush, some times i have to double check that if its working and ive pressed it. but i got used to it
my volume up button is very sticky, sometimes press and volume goes full blast when i dont want. kinda annoying, taken button out and cleaned but no difference . not sure if i should send back as im rooted :crying:

The volume up button broke on mine after 4 days. It stopped springing back up after pressing it. Vodafone swapped my handset, and so far so good.
It is a little worrying to see others having similar issues with their buttons - I assumed mine was an isolated incident.
I believe I'm having a hardware failure with the rocker buttons. I have to press in certain spots to get the down key to function, and I have to press near the center of the rocker to get the up key to do anything.
It's been a while since an atrix apart, but can do so if needed. Is there anything I can do to attempt to repair this issue w/o ordering new parts? I know weird fixes exist for things like wifi, but not sure about this.
I know it's a hardware problem due to the fact that it's nearly impossible for me to get into recovery, since the keys barely function at all.
Thanks.

you start out by saying "i believe", and end off with "i know". its one or the other. luckily i know of the issue, having had it myself. it is a hardware issue. replace camera flex cable or replace device.

Just want to post an update. I had opened the phone up, and saw where the contacts were in relation to the buttons. The contact was pushed inwards towards the camera, so the buttons were not makign contact. Fixed it by cutting thin strips of plastic and inserting them in between the contacts and the camera. Buttons work like a charm and it was a free fix
Has anyone been having issues with the volume rocker sticking. This is my 3rd replacement device and all 3 have had the same issue. Volume rocker sticks and won't press up or down and when it does work it moves the volume all the way up or all the way down. Recently, the dropped the device so I will have to do an insurance claim but that's a different story.
No issues with the volume rockers and I have 2
My volume down was sticking for a little bit but ended up going away. Phone was never exposed to any liquids either that can make it sticky or anything
No issues here as of yet.
