Hello everybody,
I bought the Nabi 2, as refurbished, for my little child and from the beginning I am having problems to turn it on or wake it up from sleep. It is not rooted, has everything stock and I have also applied all available official updates (OTA).
The problem is to turn it on, both from sleep or from powered down state. For example, being in sleep mode (display off) for a few hours, to wake it up I have first to press the power button for about 10 seconds, than release it and press again until... the start up Logo appears, as it was completely shut down! Maybe through pushing the power button first time I turn it off unintentional, so the second time it has to power up and load the OS? But just pushing the power button shortly will not wake it up at all from sleep mode... Is this a known problem and is there a solution for it?
Thanks in advance for each advice!

The only semi known issue I have seen is when you put the tablet to sleep and it's charging. In some instances the tablet will lock up at some point after going to sleep. When you try to wake in up via power button it is locked up. When you hold the power button for 10sec you are hard powering it off and then it reboots. If yours wasn't charging then I haven't read much about anyone having a similar problem.

Thanks for your reply, aicjofs.
In my case it happens always, no matter if charging or not... and it's annoying.
Would rooting and installing a custom ROM solve the problem? If yes, is there a custom ROM dedicated to kids, similar with the stock one?

I'm still struggling with the random problems on my Nabi...
Is it possible to check the integrity and/or health of internal memory, find and mark bad blocks, etc. using a computer (Windows or Linux) connected through USB? If yes, how? Do I need to flash TWRP or something else on the Nabi before?
Thanks in advance for your help.

The latest TWRP should have a section under the wipe menu where you can repair the file system which is probably easiest, although you need to be careful what you are doing in there as it is called the "wipe" tab for a reason. Should be able to go to wipe menu, select data partition checkbox, select change or repair filesystem(don't swipe to wipe, click the words check/repair etc) and select check in the next screen.
To do a filesystem check the partition can not be mounted so you do it from recovery not in Android. Since stock recovery you can't use ADB you pretty much need TWRP one way or another.
If you don't want to use the graphical interface in TWRP you can do it over USB with ADB and use e2fsck on the partitions after unmounting them, but it's going to be doing the same thing you will just see a more verbose version if you do it over adb.
Thanks a lot, aicjofs.
I will try to root and install first TWRP, as my Nabi is still untouched.
One thing I remarked: at the moment, when I go in the (stock) recovery and want to do a "Wipe data/factory reset", 2 lines are displayed before "-- Wipping data...": "E: missing bitmap stage_empty (Code -l)" and "E:missing bitmap stage_fill (Code -l)". After that, the wiping process seems to run normal, as I get the message "Data wipe complete." at the end.
Do you know what that lines are meaning? Could those lines help to debug the main problem ?
Update: NO WAY to get TWRP on my Nabi, regardless how hard I try...
NabiLab 2015 recognize the Nabi without problems, but as soon as I select "Recovery installer", Nabi should reboot-bootloader (I suppose), but hangs at Nabi Logo (the small icon in the middel of screen) forever. Also in Control Panel, the device is shown as ""Fastboot" with the error symbol and the indication that the driver should be installed again (but of course, when I try to do it, Windows tells me that the newest drivers for that device are already installed).
I also tried with using directly adb in a cmd window, with the same result, as soon as I type "adb reboot-bootloader" and press enter.
I am really out of ideas...

The hang with Nabi logo is because the fastboot driver is somehow broke. You will likely have to install it manually. Which driver are you using?
I gave most of the driver options here http://forum.xda-developers.com/nabi-2/general/nabi-information-t3229119

You were right! I've installed the "nacked" driver on a fresh windows 7 and now I have TWRP on my Nabi 2!!! Thanks a lot!!!
Now is there a way to get rid of the freezing problem when I attach the charger while Nabi is on? Right now, if I attach the charger this way, Nabi 2 will freeze completely and only a reboot can get the normal functionality back!?!
Charging the Nabi in "off" state works however...

I dont have Nabi2's anymore but both my kids tablets did the same thing. I never really found a solution. I did buy a cable from Nabi store that has the orange braid covering. It seemed to make a difference, but it still happened from time to time.
Happy New Year!
As I mentioned, I was finally able to install TWRP and did all wiping, cleaning, repairing tasks that were available
After that I flashed the "Nabixus 0.1beta for Nabi 2" ROM which worked very nice.
But... I still have the same problems starting up the Nabi!
When I finally succeed to start it (after many trials), it works well, but if I let it go in standby and wait more that a few minutes, I am not able to wake it up again and I have to do a restart (about 10 sec. hold the Power button down).
What I`m not getting at all: is this a software or a hardware problem? Can my Nabi 2 be repaired after all, or I just have to scrap it?
The last thing I could still think to try would be to repair the partition table through TWRP / Adb / Adb shell. Should I try it? Where can I get a good partition table for my NV7A and, after having it, which commands are required?
... aicjofs, please... help

You can't repair the partition table from adb/TWRP. It's read only. You could through nvflash but I don't think the partition table could possibly cause the issue. I think you are meaning fix super blocks and inodes of the filesystem? Even that is a stretch if it's happening how you describe it but with a try. Did you try repair filesystem like we talked about earlier? If not backup all the data and try a wipe data. That will make sure to blow away and reformat the data partition.
It could be hardware. I know for sure the charging system causes it when plugged in but not about the first boot stuff or when it's not charging.
Thank you aicjofs for your answer,
yes, I did attempt to repair the system, data, cache and it was successfully. I did it several times. I also wiped everything a few times and installed the Nabixus ROM afterwards. Nothing helped. It's like the operating system needs to "get warm" somehow, because I have to try to power on the system many times, until I get it work... but after that, if the Nabi goes in standby, I have to start the whole thing over
How can I check for damaged blocks, etc.? If I can do it and find some, could they be marked as "bad" and isolated? Would it make sense?
Guys I need help ...this morning my phone restarted while charging and got stuck on huawei logo screen. i tried different combinations of Power + Volume up and down buttons but it didnt go to any other screen. then i installed hisuite on my PC and connected to my phone through USB cable, and holding volume down button i got to this screen which says FAST BOOT&RESCUE MODE and further reads "Phone Locked" "FRP Lock" in the end below Android logo.
i want to access my phone contents and get backup as I have important files to recover. Please I need some help with detailed step by step procedure to help me get through without damaging my phone or its content. I am hoping some nice techie can write me the steps needed to be taken considering I am a complete noob.
Try forcing your way into the recovery and clearing cache
Vol up + power without having it plugged in
Just keep it pressed for 1 min + if you have to until you see the recovery
When the phone vibrates and turns on let go of the power button so it won't cycle

hi buddy,
i tried but no luck
Any news? I got one in the same condition. When its in eRecovery and i try to update it shows "can't get update info(or something like that)", it doesn't have factory reset button available, it doesn't have wipe button available. When I put it in fastboot, it shows Phone "Locked" and "FRP Lock".
Wtf do I do with this brick?
Thank you in advance! ( Be aware guys! I was scammed with it on the internet - full box, like new, and it doesn't even get into android)

Hi,
have you tried Emergency Backup?
- Turn off your phone and connect it to your computer using USB cable. Press and hold the Volume Up and Power Button for 15 seconds, until the device restarts and enters the eRecovery mode. Select "Emergency backup" . Works on EMUI 9.1 only!
IMO theres no other way to save your data...

That sucks, I think I got exactly the same problem, have tried all kind of combinations. Only different appearing window is fastboot but that is totally useless as the device doesnt appear on Hisuite either. What happens when the batter totally drains ?

Phone does not turn off, and whatever button you press it just keeps showing Huawei start screen except for volume down and power button combination which opens fast boot window. Do you how to connect the device to laptop while in fastboot mode? We have tried fastboot commands on terminal but didnt get anywhere with file recovery...
so no solution?
U can do it, but u need dissasembly the phone, to make test point, if phone isn't hw damaged yes u can fix it in that way
hi may I ask if you have resolved the problem? Been experiencing the same problem when my huawei p20 lite got stuck on a startup logo screen
same problem with me, phone is stuck on start up logo, not moving anywhere despite using all the tricks, any solutions, anyone have?
Hi, I have same problem. Stuck on HUAWEI logo and power off do restart.
Phone is with last stock FW, FRP and BOOTL. locked. I tried update from SD card, but no succes. All buttons combinations not working except fastboot. But in fastboot, there is no possibility to do something due to locked btldr.
But I have one advantage, I have same phone model with same firmware working. Is there any possibility to recover bad piece?
*bump*
anyone who fixed this ?
Hi.
I've been doing some reading because my father is locked out of his P20 Lite. He never turns the phone off, and since he started using the fingerprint as soon as he discovered it, he forgot the PIN in no time. I could hard reset the phone but of course he needs all the data back.
As far as I have read, I could install TWRP and operate in it to backup the data, but first I need to unlock the bootloader, but any guide I read goes through the system settings enabling developer options and such, wich are not accesible without being logged in the phone, wich is not possible without the PIN.
I'm finding myself between a rock and hard place... What can I do?
Suggestions are really appreciated. Thanks!!

If your phone is running EMUI 9 , try Emergency Backup :
Turn off your phone and connect it to your computer using USB cable. Press and hold the Volume Up and Power Button for 10-15 seconds, until the device restarts and enters the eRecovery mode. Select "Emergency backup" .

That's superb! Thank your very much!
The phone indeed gives the option to do emergency backup but for some reason my dad's computer is unable to comunicate via USB with the phone. I asked my father to go and get an USB memory stick with type C connector and we are going to try that way.
Thanks again!

what do you mean that your phone is stuck at recovery mode? if not you can enable the developers option this is the steps
1.) Go to setting
2.) Go to About phone
3.) tap the build number 7 times
4.) now quit the setting then open it again
5.) scroll down then choose the developers option
thats how you open developers option
basically when I reboot turn off> it will "never" boot into normal mode. My phone is so broken that pressing power button only still boot into recovery mode, wipe data and reboot still into recovery mode.

your phone seems to be new which means that your volume keys are still new and good so thats not our problem here your phone didin't boot right? did you do something to your system phone like flashing or something? because if you do there is a big chance that you screw up something in your phone resulting it to be like that. now your phone can still be charge right there might be still a hope we just need to reflash your whole firmware ( if the problem is really a firmware) you said before you cant boot right then there must be a problem in the booting process, i tested this on my phone before i clean wipe my whole phone and that include system partition so when i tried to boot my phone it wont and when i charge it no logo would appear just like yours so im guessing that you phone partition is gone and like you said to its bricked now. if thats the case we need to flash the whole firmware

Thanks for reply>to avoid confusion no I did not do anything/flashing/even enable usb debugging to my OPPO A15S. I am total newbie that I flash Samsung J7 once only. The Oppo A15S yes it is 1-2 years only, volume key clicking works fine but after system update via setting>Official Oppo coloros things. My phone kinda messed up volume key not working<google results say because a lot of phone cannot boot up because of volume key. So should I pry open my phone to see the volume key? Or just wait until 1 day scheduled power up happens?
Logs:
Wednesday 5am my phone auto boot up in recovery mode.I press restart and the screen black nothing happens.
Thursday 5am no boot up
Friday no boot up too.
So I assume it is my phone power is low and somehow my auto scheduled power on force my phone to boot up? and that time system auto update causes my phone die in midway?

hmm i see you didnt do anything in your phone but you did say that you updated it right? while updating you phone did something happen? like rebooting? if so there might be a chance that it became corrupted because of ,that while in the case of your power button what kind of problem does it have? does it work correctly? or you cant click it like its stuck or something? or maybe the button is working correctly and your phone just doesnt boot up? if the button is really problem like google stated ----->
Why is my OPPO always in Recovery mode?
One of the most common causes is that one of the buttons used to access android system recovery is defective or malfunctioning. Now, you should first check if the physical buttons are responding properly, especially the volume buttons, before trying to get rid of the Android Recovery Mode.
you should probably check you physical button because that might be a problem and i just remembered i have the same problem in my sisters phone vivo y53 its always stuck in recovery mode and we are confused why did it happen so we bring it to our technician friend and let him fix it and he really fix it he he told me that if something happen like this again check all the buttons correctly. Now there is really problem in you button and you cant just pry in you phone you might break something you should let the professional do it like technician after you fix your button try to boot up again and if its still black screen or recovery then the problem is in the phone system and you can comeback here so we can help you fix it.
Was charging the phone when I went to sleep. Woke up to the Boot Logo, the one with "HUAWEI Powered by Android". Tried to restart it by pressing the power button for a while, doesn't work. Immediately went back to this screen. Tried:
power+volume up, doesn't work.
power+volume down, doesn't work.
power+volume down while connected to computer, opened fastboot&recovery. HiSuite says my phone isn't supported.
power+volume up while connected to computer, doesn't work.
draining the power. When I charged it, the charging symbol appeared (lightning inside a circle, coloured red) for a bit, then the Boot Logo appeared again and stays on for quite a while, even when I immediately disconnected the cable.
I found a similar thread, but without enough data to tell it's the same problem, and it's been 2 years ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/p20-lite-stuck-on-startup-screen.3946110/ )
I just want to know if there's another way to enter the eRecovery mode, since I need the data and my last backup was on the 1st of April. Even better if I can boot into the phone, but I'm not holding my breath. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
