Linux on managed chromebook - Chromebooks

Hey all, recently I have been messing with my school chromebook for fun and have unblocked it. Now I'm looking for a way to force either devmode or linux beta, open to any ideas besides completely unmanaging it, thanks for your time if you have any ideas!

how much experience do you have in this type of stuff? did your school block crosh?

Installing Linux

Hi All
Just arrived at this place after doing a Google search. To be honest I am not sure what I want to do with this phone! I got given it by a mate who thought I might like to play with it! It has a couple of scratches in the screen!
Anyway, I thought I would have a go at installing Linux on the device. But after reading various bits I am not any the wiser! I generally use a Mac but I do have an Ubuntu box and access to an xp box. What I would like to do is install linux as an os on the XDA II. What are the links to do this please? I have never done anything like this, so I'll be walking in the dark, is ti going to be possible? Or do I need a degree in technical stuff?
Any help would be much appreciated or maybe there is someone in the uk who has a better idea of what to do with this phone!
Thanks.
Rich

WALLABY,akaQtek1010,sx56,etc. SpecialEd.Rom Fail, is it good for anything?

Hi all, I have been trying to find a starting point for learning about programming. I have a wallaby and purchased XDA Tools a year or so ago, and like many I jumped into it with the idea of unlocking the sim features, long story short, I did not backup anything and tried to do it w/o a memory card and eventually I lost the bootloader and ended up with the black stripes with the two white boxes I have seen in others posts. I do not really care about its functionality as a phone, but is there anything else I could install such as games or another platform entirely? Just for a little practice, or fun? Thanks. Also you guys are truly rad for being as nice as you are about all of the repitition/noobs like me.

If you lost the bootloader, I don't know if there is anything that you can do with it. If you know how to do JTAG, you may be able to upload the bootloader that way, but I don't know enough about that to guide you. Sorry, but I think that you are going to end up having it for spares... Also, you bought xda Tools? I thought that was free from this site
Thanks Thunder1, I bought it as a sim unlocking package for wallaby specifically, at the time I had no idea that xda had a site and before I could even navigate the web really. Go figure, I want to flash and hack before I even know how to use basic features on my device, I will look into the j tag method you mentioned and hopefully I can use the j tag cable I got for my wrt54gtm router, I dont have a clue but I just keep reading. Thanks much.

[Q] Android to Android VPN... for your Health!

Maybe you guys can help me out here; my research is pulling up nothing.
As the title states, I'm looking for an Android to Android VPN? I've always been able to check on my kids computer activity when needed with PhoneMyPC (and mitigate a few bad situations), but with tablets being used there's no way to see what they do. Overly cautious parent comments and anti-spy hate aside, this is something I feel is extremely beneficial.
Anyone know of one that's good? Is there one out there that's useable? Gurus, is it even possible?
I greatly appreciate any help on this topic.

Old Tablet Uses

Greetings Xda. This is my first post, so apologies if this is on the wrong board.
Firstly to give you an idea of my own knowledge and experience: I've worked as a software developer for the last couple of years, doing primarily Java and C++. I have a good amount of experience using Linux, however all my experience is almost exclusively with Server and Desktop Applications.
I have an Android tablet that I bought a couple of years ago and I've been trying to come up for a use for it. I would like to completely remove all of the software I can, and turn the thing into a control panel that can send commands over wifi to control or monitor anything I want (I'll probably use HTTP requests to a server for this, but that's not relevant).
I have very little knowledge of how I can start, although I'm guessing that somehow I could install Debian with an existing desktop environment to do this. Can anybody give my advice and point me towards material I can use to achieve this?
The Tablet is a versus touchtab 8dc.
Cheers.

Acer Chromebook spin 15 linux?

Hi everyone
Everywhere I see the Acer Chromebook 15 is on the list of getting support for Linux, but not the 15 spin, while from the Chromebook 11 for example, I always see the spin version. Technically, I suppose there the same kind of device, with only a bit different hardware for the screen, but just to make sure, will the Chromebook spin 15 be able to make use of Linux apps?
Hopefully there's anyone who can clear up my dog about this.
Thanks in advance
Christophe

We share the same affliction it seems. maybe someone will know soon enough
Very strange as my Acer 15 (non spin) now has it in beta form. I think the hardware is nearly identical to that of the spin.
Not going to lie and say it runs well as it doesn't. Very slow to get on its feet and crashes often.
Maybe a blessing in disguise as you might get a more stable version.

Hi, I'm considering this chromebook but I was curious as to whether I can replace the bios with SeaBIOS.
I want to fully remove all Google software and run pure Linux.
