I just updated my phone to android 13 and everytime I type my password it says that it's incorrect. I've been using the same password for many months there's no way I'm typing it incorrect. How can I unlock my phone without factory resetting it?

Unfortunately I had remote unlock disabled and the only way around this was to factory reset my phone. I did have a 2 month old backup but still it wasn't convenient to reset my phone just because samsung can't properly update their phone.
I had the same problem when I updated, but it was fixed when I restarted it by pressing the power button and volume down for a few seconds

I tried that multiples times and it didn't work. I even tried booting the phone into safe mode but that didn't work either. Unfortunately I ended up doing a factory reset :C
My update was okay ... To android 13 ...
My wife just had this issue after doing a second update on her samsung z-flip4 .. after the first update she was able to sign in but not after the second ... I dredged through my memory for this solution....
In the past she set a password that was 17 characters... but the max password length was 16 characters.. some time in the past the system allowed a longer password but anything typed in past 16 characters was ignored.. it seems that with one of the updates this no longer happens and it looked at all characters entered. We typed in the first 16 only and bingo.. it unlocked!!!

Thanks dude, you saved my life!
I had a 21 character password, and after updating was locked out of my phone.
Luckily I came across your answer, and after entering the first 16 characters of my password managed to open my phone
Ill note, that this essentially means that passwords are stored in plaintext and that Samsung literally truncated passwords without any indication of such idiotic behavior!

Hey Guys.
A friend of mine tried to unlock my phone and made multiple failed attempts and choose some option which now have resulted in the phone being BLOCKED. it is not showing the "normally available option" of logging in via the gmail account. It is asking for a recovery password. I have no idea what that password is as i never set such a password. I have tried all my accounts on the phone. i tried 0000 and 00000000 aswell for the default passwords but of no avail. The screen shows "Recovery password required to unblock phone".
When i give a wrong password it says "Incorrect recovery password. All data will be wiped in line with security policy". As i dont want to do this i turn off my phone and upon restarting it this happens again. I tried removing the battery for sometime.Keeping the phone turned off etc but nothing positive.
Any suggestions on a workaround or what might the password be?

This is the exact same setup as a stolen phone will show . So best advice is return the phone to the network/phone supplier who should be able to reset on evidence of purchase .
Incorrect recovery password. All data will be wiped in line with security policy
Means a security policy has been set up by the owner of the phone .
In case of a stolen phone or such symptoms XDA cannot get involved in workarounds that may be illegal .

Guys its my own phone no stolen thing. it is not on a network. The guy was trying to unlock it and made too many tries with it.
Regarding the policy, i did have my exchange account setuped on the phone which required the pattern lock in the first place. May it had such a policy but i am not aware of that. So any wild ideas?
Regarding unlocking i didnt say "unlock". i said "unblock". this unblock thing has nothing to do with the network unlocks.
I encrypted my LG Optimus G E970 using the option in cyanogenmod under security. It prompted me for a pin using a keypad, and I carefully entered a 4 digit pin. At the end of the encryption process, it rebooted and promted me with "Enter password to decrypt storage." Instead of a pin, there was a text box and full android keyboard. I entered my pin, and it said "Try Again." It did not lock me out at all for any amount of time no matter how many passwords I tried. I tried rebooting it, and had the same problem. If I leave the device on without typing in a password, it makes a clicking sound after a minute or so every ten seconds. I can't factory reset in TWRP because it can't mount /data. What should I do?
Hey i'm having the same problem, just got the same phone (LG optimus G e970) 3 weeks ago cause i signed a new 2 year contract, got it rooted and then tried to encrypt and it's not letting me in even though i'm sure the PW is right. someone told me LGNPST might work and i tried doing the steps and it was no good. Anyone have any way of remedying this problem? I have ATT and if all else fails i'll just return to the store to get the encryption off but will they give me any flack if they know it's been rooted? Thanks
Hi everyone I set up my galaxy alpha and at the time it asked me to create a security lock screen I choosed PIN, so I entered correctly and concious, and then I turned off the phone and at the time I entered my PIN, it says i'ts incorrect, so I attempted already 70 times and still haven't asked me to log in into my Google account, which I already have in my phone, any one knows how many times I need to fail entering the PIN for the phone to ask me to Log In ?? or what can I do, I already tried with Android device Manager but didn't work, I perfectly know my ID credentials, pls help
I remember that on my old LG phone after 5 incorrect PIN attempts it asked me to Log In in my account, but this have 75 times already and it doesn't asks
Hoping someone can help because my phone is completely unusable. I was in work yesterday and decided to restart my phone because the battery was draining and I didn't have a USB-C cable. It got to the "enter PIN" screen, and the PIN I've always used was invalid. I'm pretty sure I never changed my PIN, but I've used 15 of 30 guesses trying any number that I might have changed it to, and none work. I usually unlock my phone with my finger print, but that isn't possible because this isn't the standard unlock screen, it's the screen before the phone even fully boots up. It's not connected to the internet yet so I can't reset it via Google and there's no "forgot PIN" option.
To further complicate things, the power button on my phone doesn't work (though the finger print sensor still does.) The phone was in my pocket and got moist from sweat on a hot day, and hasn't worked since. So I'm not even able to get into recovery mode. I can turn the phone on by holding volume-down and connecting then disconnecting the charger. I can also get into "download mode" to flash firmware by doing the same thing holding volume-up.
I have my camera photos backed up, but nothing in my downloads directory is saved, nor any pictures received in text messages. I'm sure there's plenty of other stuff that's not backed up too. I hadn't enabled encryption. Is there any way to transfer files off my phone? I'm assuming no, especially since even "adb" doesn't see the phone in either download mode or the PIN entry screen. USB debugging was enabled, but it seems like it's only connecting in "charge only" mode.
I'm not even sure how to get the phone working again, even if I have to wipe it. Should I try flashing a stock ROM (it's not rooted or un-bootlocked)? What happens when I enter the invalid PIN 30 times?
Thanks for any help.
Edit: If it helps, it's the AT&T model, H820
think you must reflash the Rom with fatory reset option. not the best, but you have a usable devive again. Bad you cant root the device and delete just the two *.key files

What happens after 30th attempt to unlock Secure Boot?
I have forgotten the unlock pattern for my G5, which has been sitting in a drawer for the last couple of months.
What happens when I fail to correctly enter the unlock pattern for the 30th time? Will it clear the data and reset itself, if so, no biggy, or will it turn itself into a brick, which would be a biggy?
Regards,

It clears all data and factory resets itself. The only other thing is that you need the password for the Google account it was associated with, in order to use it after it resets. I think it's to prevent phone theft. I remember hearing you shouldn't try to change your Google password within ~3 days of resetting the device either, because it might not work.
Note that if it's the actual screen lock pattern you forgot instead of the startup/boot PIN, you can probably just reset it through Google's Android Device Manager website.
LG G5 SE H840 stuck on secure startup
Hi everyone.
I've tried to flash TWRP on my phone using fastboot and it seems to have worked, but when I reboot, my phone is asking for a secure startup code.
I don't have it because I don't remember setting one up... Each reboot uses 2 of the 30 try allowed and now I'm at 12 left.
I tried default_password, and some other things... not working.
I tried fastboot -w to do a factory reset, but it doesn't want to write "userdata" : "cannot flash this partition in unlocked state"...
Code:
Created filesystem with 11/32000 inodes and 4110/128000 blocks
erasing 'userdata'...
OKAY [ 0.609s]
sending 'userdata' (138917 KB)...
OKAY [ 4.361s]
writing 'userdata'...
FAILED (remote: cannot flash this partition in unlocked state)
finished. total time: 4.989s
For what it's worth : I'm french and the secure startup is in french... Is it because the initial stock rom that I used is still behind whit my settings ? Factory reset should have brought me back to English at least ?
Any help please ?
New problem, new thread.
I remember that I set a secure startup pin in my Lenovo TB3- x70L . But when I typed the pin the tab displayed incorrect pin . So I restarted it a black display appeared to enter the pin.
I tried many times typing the pin what I set . It shows all are incorrect pin . And after many attempts it says "your tab will be wiped after 7 attempts with incorrect pin".
My debugging is off ,OEM is off.(Initially).
But I some how activated debugging.
Pls help me guys if you can.

Pocophone F1
security set to fingerprint and alphanumeric password.
every 3 days the fingerprint stops working and asks for password as a default security feature.
Last night it asked for password as its been 3 days since last used password. I am certain the password is correct and signed in several times before with it. I suspect there might have been a system update in the last 3 days. Now it keeps saying password is incorrect.
Forgot password option only allows erasing data and back to factory default.
Any help would be much appreciated.

if you have TWRP or any other encryption supporting custom recovery, reboot to recovery and then check what it asks for.
called xiaomi uk
I didn't root the phone or have custom recovery installed unfortunately.
called xiaomi uk customer support, they were saying the phone should give the option to reset the password via the google account but it isn't giving this option.
the phone is definitely connected to my google account. can see it there and was able to locate it and ring it from the computer browser.

Did you associate your phone to mi account? She this happen to my girlfriend's phone and saw a bunch of cases while looking for a solution. Couldn't find a way around factory resetting.
I ended up doing the factory reset. I am sure it's a Xiaomi software issue because when I was initiating the phone again, when you set up fingerprint it gives this message:
"Remember your lock screen password. If you forget it, you'll have to erase all data on your device, including photos and contacts, and then set a new one"
This is exactly what I ended up doing other than the fact that it wouldn't accept the correct password. There is ways around it if you rooted your phone before this happened but in my case there was no quick solution.
Xiaomi should allow the password reset via Google account like other android phones.
Lucky I did have some backup via Google so wasn't a total disaster.
this is really bad. Im in this situation and i don want to erase my files as i didnt back up or used cloud. since yesterday looking for work around this screen lock issue, im using pocophone f1.
