Question Initial setup advice needed - Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

I got my S23 Ultra 512GB today, in Bulgaria.
I come from Note 4, which I have had since 2015. Android is v 6.0.1.
So I need practical advice what to enable and what to disable in the initial settings. I intend to use it mostly for video watching (Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Prime) and for picture/video shooting. I would like a balance between quality and battery life, but picture quality is a priority.
Thanks in advance.

That would be some good info which i would appreciate too.
And for a change it seems we in Bulgaria are on the lucky side, being able to get the phone on the 1st day after the unveil

[Q] Getting the Xperia Z Ultra since no HTC One Max anytime soon

much to my chagrin, the HTC One Max will not be released anytime soon (prior to October). i desperately want a new device and i've decided to get the XZU.
i'm currently on StraightTalk/AT&T and from what i've read, there is no current version of the XZU that will provide 4G, but HSPA+ is attainable.
i stream a great deal of music to my phone, surf the net a lot, a few movies here and there and talk on the phone for less that 200 minutes a month.
- for those of you here in the US, and particularly those on StraightTalk, is there a problem when trying to stream content to your device?
- which model are you using?
- where should i purchase this device from to avoid the dreaded blank screen problem.
- and do you recommend I wait for the 4g variant, instead?
any additional feedback would be most appreciated, as well.

I am in the exact same situation. I am currently on ATT and in need of a new phone. Was really looking forwards to the HTC Max, but the Xperia Z Ultra just seems better. My questions are the same. Would love an educated response. Thanks in advance.

im setting it up now..hopefully it'll be a successful marriage between it and the XZU when it arrives...
If anyone knows, it isn't to challenging to setup with an att sim? I've rooted/Jailbroken/etc etc on tons of phones. Never unlocked though. Hopefully it isn't to challenging

Was really charmed to hear HTC was making a "phablet", but unfortunately a 5..9" can't replace a tablet, I would still need to play around with my N7 and bring both of them. I hope one day I can have a HTC phone again, but seems that since the Sensation XE they never developed something that was matching my needs :crying:
Build quality, design and HTC UI are top notch and devs are at its level. Between a NG3 and One Max no hesitation go Max, but XZU and Max are really different in size.
The extra half an inch on the ZU is great, ask my wife!!
To be very honest I have the Xperia Z , the S4 The Htc one , optimus G pro ( NO I DONT own a mobile shot )
I have not been so pleased with any of the above than the ZU , the best smartphone out there , yes you will miss the IR blaster and flash on this but considering the general daily usage this phone just is the best , 0 viewing angles , its far better than the S4 and the G pro with color reproduction I am so happy sony finally sorted this out... with the Z1 the videos I saw looks like it lacks still the calibration as it still uses the same screen as ZU but has some viewing angles problem must be because of calibration though. but withe slimness of the phone and the amazing battery life and performance multitasking becomes an easy task.
This is defntely recomended above Note 3 simple reason the Note 3 has tooooooo many software gimicks which in the end you wont use at the same time no one to sit and teach you all those and you would nt have time either or all those features hog battery and to save battery you will end up turning them off...
That's good to hear. Is it safe to assume that waiting until the 13th for the LTE varient is a better idea? Or is getting the 6802 with only HSPA+ not really a noticeable difference?

6802 is good enough for me... Sure the extra mbps are nice but doesn't justify spending more money.. Plus I get good HSPA+ area so I'm getting around 10-14mbps..

How much extra is it really going to be? My area is great for HSPA+, but if i eventually want to sell it I feel like people won't want to buy the 6802.

the device will come factory unlocked so you would't have to do anything to unlock it...
all you would have to do is enter the apn settings...presumably the settings in your current device should work...

Hi Don't make the mistake my Mother made, when she and bought the Xperia Z Ultra instead of waiting for the Note 3 like I told her. It turns to be a big mistake, she can not swap out battery, the battery life is so short, there is not stylus built in, she constant have to remember to carry some pencil, there is no wacom technology, she can not sketch nature like she can with the Note 3, she can not put the Ultra in her pants and walk or sit down with it, it is so impractical. There is no flashlight like, so she can not use the phone as a torch, which is vital for at night time, she fell yesterday because of the lack of flashlight and nearly killed herself. Also the camera is only 8M. Also there is no IR blaster, so she can't not use the phone as a remote control for her TV, she have to use the original TV controller, which is inconvenient because she have to turn no the light to see the keys on the TV remote controller, which means she have to get up and turn on the light, which is bad for her because she's got backache. Also she like to watch horror movies, the LCD on the Ultra can not display true black like the Amoled.

It just your mom don't like it. That's all.
I was going to wait and get the LTE version but then I did speed tests of my HSPA+ model and still got 15-20mbps frequently
I was getting 19 mbps yesterday which is quite good, sure it is not LTE speeds I was getting around 50 mbps on my galaxy s4 when I had it but I can live with the slower speeds I ended picking up a used c6802 for a very good price less then half of what I can order the LTE model for and I am very happy with it especially after updating to the 510 firmware the battery life is much much better

Lol, you forgot to mention how she's now on dialysis and has Parkinson's disease, all because of the Z Ultra.

Opx enough?

Dear guys and girls. I'm looking a while for the opx to come out, now it's finaly here and i got an Invité but when i see the litlle reviews i hesitate so my question about it.
This one plus x , is this enough to beat the huawei p8lite or p8 because that are older phones but connectivity is very good. I seen a p8 lite and it's very snappy .
I live in belgium and use my phone not for heavy 3d games, just browsing fb INSTA Twitter and taking picture.
I now have a jiayu gs5 and it's really slow due to connectivity cus my meaning is that a smartphone these days is dependable on the internetspeed.
My Invité stills stand till 21.oou tonight. What should i take? Prices are all the same so that's not the issue.
Kind regards, Joeri

The limited amount of reviews is because the phone just came out, so you won't have to worry about that.
In terms of connectivity, you should be more then fine. Espcially since you're mostly on FB and INSTA the phone should be more then enough for you!
Here you go: Someone did a speedtest, but I guess it also depends where he lives and the coverage where he lives:

Thx for the quick answer. I looked at the forum from the speedtest and he says 25mb/s download. I hope they have poorly internet where he lives because with my 2 year old jiayu i get around 50mb/ss. So now i'm more thinking for the p8. I honestley don't know. Probably it's a good phone but will this be in the end. If he doesn't match up i spend 250€ on something bit better than my jiayu.

z or z pro

i wanted to buy umidigiz pro but i did not have 250$ so i decided to ask you about z pro.is it worthy to buy(just camera lens)or i should buy umi z?and an other question:do umi z or z pro have a good software?i asked about it and i got different answers! plz answer me with your experience.ty
I have the Z, having had several HTC including the 10, and the Samsung Note Edge I have a good set to compare with.
Its plain Android as far as the software goes and with latest ROM update seems perfectly stable ,not had any of the issues you read about, I'd put most down to the user to be fair as plain android does not hold your hand like the HTC, Samsung or other skins/mods.
Camera gets a lot of comment but see UMI forums with so great examples and I can get great shots that are just as good as any from my other phones , yes the dual focus sometimes needs to be worked with , but so long as you use it correctly its a good camera , if you want to point and shoot switch the focus mode to phase only and you would be fine , my experience anyway.
Speed is great, don't see any lag or slow down in games etc.
Battery seems great, everything left on I get a full day with moderate to heavy use. No issues here.
Screen is good , clear and sharp, colours, seem correct, all can be adjusted anyway.
Sound fine, perhaps headphone a little quiet compared to others but great quality .
East to root, update etc, xposed works fine, mods to plain android seem to work as expected.
All in all a good phone , no idea if pro camera is better , I suspect for some situations it will be, but only if used correctly .
Look inn by forward to nougat update ,just to add some nice bits as I loved that on my note edge,
Just buy it , value for price is amazing , build quality is great ..Good phone

ty for your help and just an other question:will this phone have hardware issue in future because it has no service man here because its not a known brand?
Well its a £200 phone , guess it can be serviced but seems reliable so far, umi will service if you send back to China I guess , of course supplier will provide 1 year normally , but if local techs can service depends on issue . of course out of warrantee costs for major brand phones is often more than the cost of this phone

Do yourself a favor and don't buy this phone. Wireless and Wifi connection is bad, gyroscope sensor is bugged, camera is not as good as it could be, scroll feeling is laggy, temperature issues.
Add 100 $ and buy a mi5s or something similar, but don't buy this piece of electronic trash. I will sell mine as fast as i can.
selling mine too. huge disappointment. buggy as hell. it was not worth the time I had to spend with flasing it over an over which is their universal answer to any kind of issues.

Don't really seem to have Wifi connection issues here. Use gyroscope works well. They updated the software to fix it maybe u didn't have it installed. I can't complain about camera. It's a cheap phone don't expect it to be top notch here. But for the cheap price it does hell beat lots of other devices in the same price range.

Just purchased a Moto Z, is it too late?

Hello all,
I'm new to XDA and impressed by the amount of information available for all different phones!
I would love to get your suggestions on this -
I recently purchased the Moto Z unlocked at around $288 (in a deal). Just because it was such a low price, I pulled the trigger on this deal, but now thinking if I did the right thing. Though the phone performs very good, camera is a huge disappointment, always giving "hold camera steady" message.
Since I am still within return period for this phone, it would be great to hear from you experts if this phone is good value for money I paid for it, or should I wait to get OnePlus 5 or the Huawei Mate 9 pro or something very current gen (HTC U which will launch next month?)
I'm ready to put few extra $ if the upgrade seems worth it, but I'm confused right now if such upgrade would really give extra value. Your thoughts please?
Thanks!
Hi all,
Waiting for your expert suggestions please...
With that price it's the best phone you got.
And there's nothing exciting about the new phones launching this year. Just the jump from snapdragon 820 to 835, 4gb ram to 6gb.. and other unwanted stuff. Even theres nothing new about the upcoming Moto Z2. I think you got the best phone with that price.
(And next time whenever you think of buying a Moto, don't ever think that you'll get an amazing camera)
The camera is good enough. Maybe not as S7, but very very close, and in some situations even better. And the front flash is awesome
My wife bought a LG G5 and I got the Moto Z. I can safely say the camera is better than a G5. Haven't used a Samsung. But I'd say it's an average or above phone camera.
For low light, and zoom, I will soon get the camera mod, and use it for those situations.
Just my personal opinion, but I don't let cameras worry me. If I want great pics, I use my camera. No phone can compete with even the cheapest of real cameras. I get a phone based on my phone needs, since a small digital camera can be used when I go anywhere knowing I'm going to take a lot of pics.
But to each their own. :good:

Hi? I just got this too off craigslist with no charger . When I got a charger for it and it came up, and ended up having pin code enabled. How do I get this off? I'm new to moto. I'm used to flashing on samsung with Odin and stuffs. So not exactly a noob. It might have a Google lock, I don't mind. Can always find a way around that
Thanks all for the responses!
How bad is the Samsung bloatware? I have a week more remaining in my return period but this $288 price tag for this phone looks very good at which I bought this. The S7 edge is also selling today at the same price, though a refurbished one. Still not sure which one to go for.

Upcoming G8x w. Dual Screen Review (Fielding all questions)

Greetings all!
So I've been using my (Sprint) LG G8x ThinQ since middle of December and have now been using the dual screen for the better part of two weeks as well. I feel pretty confident that I can now give a full review of the device along with the attachment...
But before I put out my review here, I wanted to see if anyone had any questions or specifics they would like more information on.
I am more than happy to cover anything that may be on your mind about the device as well the dual screen attachment.
I upgraded to this device from a rooted lg v30+ on the Sprint network. Before I swapped over I was running a Verizon Pie variant so I've got a pretty good handle on differences between the V30 running Oreo, and the V30 running Pie, so will be happy to touch on OS and UI differences between the models as well.
Anyway, please reply with any questions or features etc that you'd like more info about and I'll be sure to cover in my review and will post a link here once it's up. I will also try and repiy to any questions or comments below with the answer so you don't have to wait to read/watch the whole review.
(Reserved for future review link)
Also, since the whole G8x forum is still in it's infancy, I will be going through all of the sections to try and see if there are unanswered questions or things I can expand upon as well.

I tried that as well and no. Which one is the setting you apply to use it also for the 2nd screen? It doesn't work for me.
How is the in-screen fingerprint reader? Any good? Fast/slow?
What does the "Touch Feedback and System" adjustment bar do, in the volume adjustment menu?

I would say its decent enough. Has a harder time reading dirty/pruned thumbprint compared to my old HTC 10. Im not too picky about it myself, but it does get picked on for having a slow, and inaccurate reader.
Bump, How do we get Microsoft launcher (Early Access) to get on second screen. Can someone who has successfully done this provide specific instructions?

I'm really on the fence about upgrading from my v30. It's still a great rooted phone and there is really no legitimate reason to "upgrade", so that will be interesting to see in your review: why...And any buyer's remorse? The fingerprint thing above really scares me because I think the clicky back one is the best way to do it. Any sound improvements, what is your gear? Any glitches or harbingers of doom? There seem to be marginal but acceptable case choices which is holding me back as I don't want to use dual screen case daily as the phone, let alone the combo package, is unpocketable in my imagination. Part of me says wait for the V60 which if it also can run three years, will maybe have acceptable performance in the 5g radio space which uptake of it will occur in that window. Battery life without second screen is also a question mark, especially compared to the V30. So I guess my request is to make the theme, of it vs V30. The V30 is well nigh perfect to me. Oh, and I have a huge niggle with having to click "turn on/off" on a (superfluous) toast notification AFTER I've toggled data on or off. Does this new phone ui require this excess step? I toggle my radios multiple times a day to block tracking, protect my nuts from radiation, and save batteries.
Has anyone used the Shadow gaming app on this phone? What i am hoping is that the app will open on the second screen and it the virtual game controller of the phone will work with the Shadow app, so that you can play Windows games through the phone and the controller will be able to play the games.

I toggle my radios multiple times a day to block tracking, protect my nuts from radiation, and save batteries.

The battery without the second screen is awesome, better than any phone I had, except for the ROG Phone 2, but that packs a 6000mAh battery so that's to be expected.
Take a look here, middle of the page is where the bettery tests are: https://www.gsmarena.com/lg_g8x_thinq-review-2017p4.php
I used my G8x without the second screen and got 85% left after a working day, of course it's not with 3 hours of SoT but still more than all the phones I had before... I ordered one from eBay for $269 and for that price they come without the accessory (2nd screen)
Battery life, in short, will destroy your V30, which wasn't bad in itself either. Can't say I mind the "only" 1080p screen instead of 1440p.
