I've made a guide including tutorials for installing custom roms and using the Bootmenu. I will frequently update the thread. If you find a new Custom rom, which isn't already listed in there, please tell me!
You will find the thread here: http://www.eternityproject.eu/topic/123-romgsm-ics-custom-roms-frequently-updated/#entry932
So like, i'm pretty confused. I know I have to use custom recovery to flash a ROM. And I know I have to root to install custom recovery. But some other places I read, they install custom recovery before rooting. So yes. Very confused. I'm even confused over the fact if I have to be rooted for me to flash a ROM. Do I have to? Thanks in advance for the help.
You do not need to root to flash a ROM (custom or stock).
Read the FAQ guides here in the Q&A section and you will know more .
Just wanna know how i can extract a custom kernel from custom rom ? in the same way how i can flash it in any other custom rom
my point i tried many roms many kernels , in this time iam using android leak 4.2.2 so no source code for dev's to make custom kernels but there is plenty roms 4.2.2 repacked wanna use 'em with stock
Thanks in advance:victory:
1) Kernel is simply boot.img in zip, which you would know if .....
2) You'd read understanding the basics before rooting (From General > Sticky roll-up thread)
3) Please use descriptive thread titles.
Hello
I'm new to the whole android development
I've had my S2 for some time now and you can tell what I'm dealing with when you know I have the stock rom and haven't tried rooting it
I found this "pound rom" here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/development-derivatives/rom-pound-rom-t2535113
there is no "Steps" tho that I can follow
as this will be my first ever time
can someone be kind enough to tell me If I can root my phone and flash this rom using any tutorial out there?
or do I need different kernel? cause it says this in the thread: " Need to flash this ROM with a cm10.2 or newer kernel for best results. "
hopefully this thread isn't against the rules of the forum

Click to collapse
first it is not against forum rules
second it means you just need to have a cwm version 6.0.4.3+ which you get in cm10.2 kernel so flash cm10.2 first reboot recovery then a full wipe and the install pound rom
root your phone - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOaTscV92gU ( make sure you are running official jelly bean 4.1.2 xwl.x.x )
after rooting follow this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/general/cwm-kit-kat-compatible-t2546597 ( follow this carefully )
after completing the above two steps , you can flash the rom after you wipe data , cache , dalvik cache ... flash the rom and its respective gapps and reboot system .
if you want a kernel , you can flash it after you install the rom you want ( just make sure that is the kernel compatible with the rom and its android version )
feel free to ask anything regarding to galaxy s2 i9100 and you are in no way breaking any forum rules so ask any thing you do not understand ..all the best and happy flashing
a tiny warning after flashing kk comp. cwm
reboot to "recovery" not to system
sometimes i can be missed by newbies like me
Hi All,
This thread might not be interesting to many "Geeks", who are aware of flashing custom ROM, Unlocking Bootloader, Get root access of your android device, Android Development and many more.
But your response might help few newbies who are still have no clue about these terms but wanted to do some techie stuffs wit their Android device.
Which is the best option you would prefer to ?? Newly rolled out fresh latest custom ROM on your device or Stick to same old kernel, baseband, ROM and wanted to play safely with rooted device.
P.S:- You can share the threads of discussion which are already shared so that this topic could bring an over all idea/benefits/Dos & Dont's of custom ROMs and Rooted devices .:good:
