Good Day all, hope someone can assist me. I received my Dell streak back today after 3 months in the UK for repairs. It was sent in for repairs for the Mic, I could not make any voice calls. When I switched it on for the first time, I joined it to the wireless and checked for an update. Update 2.2.2 was available. I copied the link, and downloaded the file directly from Dell on my computer: ""Streak_351_15609_00.pkg"" This is an unlocked Dell Streak 5". I formatted at 8 Gig SD (Fat32) copied the update file to the SD card and renamed it to update.pkg. Turned off the Dell, held both volume buttons and then turned it on, selected update from update.pkg.
Update loaded 100%. Streak restarted and continued to setup the device. However now the dell does not recognise the SD Card. Following options are greyed out:
Mount SD Card “Insert an SD card to be mounted” I have tested 2 different SD card that I used in my streak before repairs and they both don’t work. However the same SD card work in my Laptop, and 2 other phones. I thought it was the phone giving problems again. I put a different update.pkg on the SD card, started up with the volume buttons held in then the power.
The phone finds the update.pkg and tries to update the phone. So before the phone starts up, the SD is recognised. After the phone starts up, its not recognised.
Phone Details:
Android 2.2.2
Baseband Version:
GAUSB1A135100-EU
Kernel:
2.6.32.9-perf
Build:
15609
Steps I have taken to fix the issue:
Formatting the SD Card in Fat32, NTFS, exFat and Fat. Made sure the SD card is firmly inserted.
Tested updating the firmare again from SD card, Loads 100% fine, but once the phone starts up, cannot access the SD Card.
When I plug the Dell into the laptop, drivers are installed and nothing else happens.
3 or 4 factory Resets
Both SD cards tested worked before in my Dell Streak, one is a Micro 2 and the other is not.
Can anyone Please point me in the right direction to fixing this, I can’t send the streak back to the UK. I am in South Africa and the and it almost cost the amount of the phone to get it there and back
How come I can load an update.pkg from the SD Card but not access the SD card from Within Android?
When the option to mount is greyed out, that means that the card is already mounted.
Is the option to "Unmount SD card" visible or "Format SD card"
You should really let the Streak format the card for optimum performance
Hello,
Hoping someone can help with this issue.
My phone is an international galaxy s3. Bought september 2012 with a class 10 sandisk 32GB SDCard. Around november, suddenly, phone keeps displaying "preparing sd card", "damaged sd card", etc. when phone wakes up from sleep, this causes media process to continually run in the background, killing battery. Force stopping the Media process doesn't help as after sometime, Media process will run again.
I solved the issue by buying another SDcard, same brand, class 10 32GB as well.
And now, after 2 months, same issue reappeared with my new SD card! Displayed the same preparing sd card issue, and now my phone seldom deep sleeps because of the android.process.media process. It keeps sending wake locks.
Anybody knows what the issue is and how to solve?
Thank you very much
Same problem here, I'm on my third SD now and after a week or so the same problem happens?
Carry out a proper test of the SD card .

I managed to temporarily solve the problem by buying another sd card (my 3rd SD as well), but this time I bought a class 4 16GB one.
One thing I noticed, when using ES file explorer, and checking the last modified of the SD cards (the old ones), it shows as 1970-01-01. When I reformat it, it goes back to the correct last modified date, but over time it goes back to 1970. This new SD card still shows the correct last modified date so far.
@JJEgan: I did try that SD card test tool from before (1st SD card) and didn't show any problems. I doubt it is a fake one though, I bought it in Korea with the hologram packaging and all, the 2nd one I bought in the Philippines but also looks legit (using SD test tool app also seems fine for both).
@sam77744: I already tried a factory reset. and formatted SD card in the PC, in the galaxy s3 itself, same problem.
Is it possible for the phone to mess up with the SD card over time? In such a way that even if you format the SD card lots of times, it will really not work well with the phone anymore?
By the way, my phone ran 4.04 then upgraded to 4.1.1 over the lifespan of the 1st sd card, then 4.1.1 and then upgraded to 4.1.2 over the lifespan of the 2nd sd card. Stock ROM, never rooted, updated 4.1.1 via Kies and 4.1.2 via OTA.
Will be grateful to any ideas on what might be wrong and how to permanently fix, I can't keep buying new SD cards every month
Download the SD Formatting tool, available for free from the manufacturers association's website. I've had several cards over the years that corrupted after formatting in the phone, but were okay after using the tool.
I'm not convinced that class 10 cards are the best option for phones, yes for cameras where only a small number of large files of written, but in phones where a large number of small files are written a class 6 might be better for real life use.
Hello XDA community. This is my first thread and post. I want to start by saying that I'm very grateful for such an awesome community of techies like myself. While I may not be a far invested as some I'm willing to learn and help.
With that being said, I have been having external sd card issues untill today.
I bought an HC 64GB external sd card a week ago and it has been nothing but trouble and problem from the start. At first it seemed everything was fine... Untill I rebooted my phone at which point it decided to erase all my files on the card.. After hours of research I reformatted my card but it would only save about 1/4th of the data at which point it would erase the rest... I also could not run game roms off of the card.
After reformatting and several wasted hours of tinkering with settings and lock switches I decided to buy another different brand SD card (which I got today). As soon as I inserted the adapter into my computer slot I knew the old card was the problem. It copied files to it quickly and flawlessly. It runs my game roms very well. Moral of the story... Before you imagine the problem is bigger than it is try anouther card first..:good:
- What Android OS are you using? (KK, LP, MM and AOSP/Stock)
- Is it a branded or un-branded SD Card? (Unbranded tends to be a POS)
LP 5.0.1 and I do believe the first SD card was an offbrand as it only had an HC on it and no name.
Well i think my SD Card is acting strangely since i did the new marshmallow update
When i was still running with 5.1.1 Lollipop i was able to move all apps to sd card with no problems at all,
i did a factory reset to get rid of the root and then updated to marshmallow 6.0.1 and at first i could move apps to sd card normally like i used to do with the lollipop and everything was fine until i restarted the phone, when the phone restarted all apps that were on sd card were greyed out with a small sd card icon bellow each one and when i tap on it it says app not probably installed i knew this was a common problem and leaving the phone for a few minutes would restore it but i left my phone unused for 3 hours and apps remained greyed out so i deleted them and redownloaded them again for play store but this time when i tried to move them it would say not enough space on sd card although there is 6 gbs of free space i thought maybe some leftovers from those apps still remained so i formatted my sd card 2 time once with the android and another time from my laptop ...nothing changed still cant move apps to sd card ...and on plus on that when i connect my phone to my laptop it only reads the internal storage it doesnt show the sd card as if it isnt there
any suggestions?? Any help would be appreciated and sorry for my bad English
Update: i tried formatting sd card again but nothing changed still the same problem any suggestions???
