Question Google messages RCS chats - Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

So far i like the RCS chat function but facing one issue. My career took time to change my new sim to previous number and google RCS varified ths temporary number. Now everyone I text doesn't know who I am lol. Trying to change number but this is hard af. Tried turning RCS off - restart - on again bit it goes back to old number.... Any solution??

This may help;
if you go to profile your picture in the messaging app then select "Message settings" then scroll down to "advanced" and click phone number then you can edit the number.

Yeah thats the one, phone info,... then did you put in your SMSC, its the sms centre number, get it from your network provider.
Are you trying to sen a really long message? (i.e. over 160 chars) This is a known issue, use handcent and change the settings to split long messages to simple split.

Strange SMS Problem

I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 which i am having a really irritating SMs problem with.
My dad lives in Cyprus, when he sends me an SMS i can not reply, when i try it just says 'sending' then 'failed' . In order to get the text SMS to send to him i have to delete the message thread, then start a new message and it will send. Now if he then replies, i will need to delete the message thread again in order to be able to send him a new message.
I do not have this issue with any other contacts that i am aware. The only difference with my dad is that he lives abroad in Cyprus, and all my other contacts are here in the UK. Has anyone else had this issue? Know what causes it? I have deleted and recreated the contact but still the same.
Many thanks.
Do you have your dad's number stored in contacts with country code or not ? I was on the verge of smashing my phone when i was abroad, trying to call persons in my native country and i couldn't because i didn't have numbers stored with country code. Maybe that's your issue too
I think the problem is related to what SMS server your dad is using, I had same issue with my X-girls phone, no one could direct reply to SMS...
Hi, thanks for the replies.
Sp1tfire, i have changed the number configuration around several times, all with no success.
Fritz, this sounds plausible, however this would surely affect other phones replying? I don't have this issue when using my iphone 4 so it only happens from the Galaxy2 at the minute. I will try and use a colleagues Android phone to text him and test it.
Somehow you, or TSP (Telephone Service provider), have inserted a sms mail server address that is not valid.
here in my country, there has been scams, "cheaper SMS, enter this server setting" and stuff like that, so there is a setting on you phone that is wrong.

Can't be cause of settings, if he can actually send new sms to that number, but he can't reply from the received sms. His settings are correct as long as he can send sms. Must be something else. Are you using default sms app or a third party software ?

I am using the stock SMS app. I have just wiped the phone and installed the KF2 firmware. Going to see if that helps.
Sp1tfire, thats right, i can only reply to him when i delete the existing thread. I can however send new SMS to him no problem, so long as the thread is deleted before hand. Very frustrating as i lose the history every time.
Update, exactly the same on KF2 Firmware.
Ok, so i tried with a friends HTC desire and he has the same issue. also found my brother who has an iphone 3gs is unable to reply to my Dads number. So at least know its no longer just my phone and that it must be something the other end. Many thanks for the help.
Same problem here
When I reply to my girl it says: failed, when i delete the whole thread it goes.
It's only when I text her, all the other contact go fine
On my old sgs I had it to, but only on stock, when I was on CM7 it was OK.
Cant imagine that its something with the other phone i'm sending it to though

I remember in all the previous phones I've had, there's been a setting in the SMSC Settings allowing the user to specify whether or not to "Reply using the same SMSC" (or something along those lines).
If the option is ticked, the phone attempts to reply to the message through the SMSC that the text originally came from (rather than the one set in your handset).
The cause of the error may be because the SMSC overseas does not recognise your phone/SIM and therefore won't allow the replying message to go through.
And perhaps this may explain why deleting the whole thread and restarting a brand new message works - that is, the new message will go through the SMSC that is set in your phone for your own network.
Although, I've had a look through the settings in my SGS2 and can't seem to find that setting anywhere... (doesnt mean it's not there - it could just be that I don't know my phone well enough because I've only had it for a few days ).
I think your dad's SMS configuration settings is forcing you (or any other person he is sending an SMS to) to reply through his operators message centre
Ask him to check his sms settings and disable any such message centre settings from his side. This should solve the problem.

Google Voice voicemail assistance

I've been working at getting the voicemail for my first Android device, the SGH-i777, switched to GVoice for a bit now and I can't seem to get it working.
During the setup process [account selection, etc.] it goes to setup the voicemail and I get this error that reads:
"Error
Forwarding number changed failed"
So I found another route via the web interface with the string of numbers that reads: *004*googlenumber#.
Upon entering that in the dialer, I get:
"Call forwarding
Connection problem or invalid
MMI code
conditionally for All Basic Services"
Then I found a lead, on disabling all the settings under "Settings -> Call -> Call forwarding -> Voice Call". That gives me two errors:
"Unable to deactivate call diverting for unanswered calls. Unsupported by operator"
&
"Unexpected response from network."
Online, the web interface does show:
"Deactivate Google voicemail on this phone"
This is occurs when the device is stock and rooted, and running a new ROM. I've also tried deleting and re-adding my phone's number to my list of phones and reinstalling the GVoice app. [NOTE: It's stock and rooted right now though]
Ideas?
Check if the call can go into the voicemail message system first. If not, I will call ATT to reset the condition forwarding.
I do have a real AT&T voicemail setup and I can call it and leave a message [from another phone of course].
As for the condition forwarding, where should I take that? Tech Support via customer care? I did have to get on with tech support after they didn't switch my voicemail over from the iPhone's to a "standard" voicemail service.

Squid,
I am trying to help you here but I may have misunderstood some things that you said. Anyways, I had gVoice forwarding my voice mail just fine - actually, against my will because I wanted to stay with ATT voice and only use gVoice for text messages. Thus, if you go into settings>call>call forwarding - what does it say there? List your google number or does it list your ATT voice number? In my case it listed my google voice phone number and not my carrier number. I changed that back to my carrier, but maybe you go the opposite route. Sorry if I missed your point.

When I go "Settings -> Call -> Call Forwarding" there's another option in there with "Voice Call". There's then 4 lines, "Always Forward", "Forward When Busy", "Forward When Unanswered", "Forward When Unreachable". All of those [EXCEPT "Always Forward"] have text that reads "Forwarding to [presumably the AT&T voicemail number]".
I couldn't disable it manually, but I see where your going with it. Sadly, I cannot change any of the settings in there. Refer to the OP when I mention the lead on "disabling" the settings.

ok. Have you tried to uninstall gvoice, reboot, and re-install? Probably did, just saying.

Yes I have. I've tried a bunch of things.
But amazingly, I get to close this thread now! I called up AT&T and asked about conditional call forwarding and the guy walked me through a bunch of stuff. What ended up being the issue was the number set for the 'conditionals' in call forwarding and the "carrier number" for the voicemail [just below the radio button to select Google Voice] were different by one digit. Changing the carrier number to match the conditionals let the whole operation happen smoothly.
So, thanks to the two of you who responded!

Glad it works for you! Just for my information, the "conditional" is in which menu - call forwarding? I can't find a "conditional" option. I am sure this will come up again sometimes, so I try to fully grasp it. Thanks man!
I don't understand. I've had this same problem since I got my new phone, the SGH-i727 Skyrocket. My number in the carrier setting exactly matches the number for the "conditionals"... So what gives? I'm rooted and running a custom ROM, but the issue was present before I ever rooted, when I was stock.
I had some issues setting mine up, I am also rooted. Have you tried looking at voice.google.com -> Settings -> Phones -> Mobile and seeing if its checked or even there?
Also I reinstalled all the google apps so that might have also helped.
I had a similar problem. I'm guessing you have the Google voice app installed? I would try to reset to defaults the dialer info.
Try this
1. Remove Google app.
2. Clear dialer and dialer storage cache
3. When you go to dialer, the settings should be reset. Configure it as if you have no Google voice.
4. Install Google voice, but make sure you have both WiFi internet and cell phone reception.
5. Hopefully it succeeded, regardless go to the dialer --> Preference --> voice-mail handler for me its either Google voice, or voice mail, or none(dial voice number)
Like wise if you have the number is correct on the Google voice website and you have configured the phone with the app try entering this code. Remember the number is your Google voice mail.
Remove the dashes, and the X's correspond to the Google number, these are to be entered on the standard dialer. I do recommend this be your last step

not trying to revive a dead thread, but I was going at this all night and nothing worked, (new gs3 ATT)
have used gv for everything for a long time now and nothing has worked with this phone.
Went through and tried all the stuff above, and finally I tried putting in the mmi code in the dialer as *004*(area code and number)# and it went like normal, like a regular nexus phone.
This is without the "1" before the are code.
It went through fine and changed all the forwarding numbers in the forwarding menu, and set GV as voicemail.
The reason is that inside the phone- settings- voicemail-setup, you get what looks like a GB screen with your google voice number without the +1 infront of it, and no way to change it I don't think.
this is what the guy above was taking about I think with the att person on the phone. I hope this helps someone, I could have used it yesterday

Not sure if you're trying to be a smartass or not, but....either way this is the i777 forum. Post in the forum relative to your device.
why are you guys so touchy about specific forums? Looking for help from wherever it comes from is a good thing.
That little clue about numbers matching would have helped me yesterday, regardless of what phone I was using. ANd it will help someone in the future.
If it was an htc forum I might have said something different, but I still would have said something.
Telling someone to gtf out of your forum for no good reason is just silly.
Everyone is here to help. That's all there is. If no one needed help, there wouldn't be an XDA.
but ya, I'll stay out of your guy's forum. not that I post alot or anything.
Don't choke on your lollypop
And here I thought I was being nice. I don't remember telling anyone to gtfo....I simply said to post in your phones forum. Well good luck. Happy flashing.
All I said was that this isn't the S3 section. Was that so wrong? Many things are device dependent. So many things can't be given support for unless you have our device.

Google Phone # activating both Hangouts Dialer & Google Dialer

I've had this issue for a long time now, I can't figure out why this is happening, when someone dials my google number, both the dialer applications ring, the google dialer and hangouts dialer.
Under Handgouts Dialer i do have "Incoming phone calls" checked, I also see both my numbers listed under confirmed phone numbers.
Any ideas? I can't find anything about this anywhere.

You wrote that you have the "incoming phone calls" box checked in Hangouts but are complaining that it's ringing through Hangouts… Is that what you meant to write?
What's the end result you're looking for?
If you don't want your phone to ring when someone calls your GV number (i.e., as a forwarded call) you should still be able to turn it off in the GV settings on a desktop browser. I'm still new to the board, so I can't post links yet. google/com/voice/#phones
Hope that helps.
Yea, i didn't want my google phone number to ring my android dialer, i went to https://www.google.com/voice/#phones and found the option to forward calls to, and my telecom number was listed there to forward to, i turned it off and it fixed the problem.
Thank! - This fixed it!.

New Le Max 2 Doesn't Receive SMS/MMS Reliably on AT&T

Just Got my Le Max 2 820x from Geekbuying yesterday. Seems like a great phone. My one huge problem with it, and I'm hoping it can be solved, is that I sometimes don't receive SMS or MMS when people send them to me. I don't know why it works sometimes and doesn't others. I had a friend send me 7 text messages over the course of the day yesterday and I didn't receive any of them. I used my sons phone to send a test SMS and I didn't get it. Then like 2 seconds later I tried again and got it. I used his phone to send a picture (MMS) and it showed up fine. I texted his phone with the Le Max 2 and it showed up fine. Then I sent a picture (MMS) to his phone and it showed up fine.
I can't be using this phone if I'm going to be missing text messages. It's 95% how I communicate. I've already checked the APN settings and they appear correct. If they weren't, I probably wouldn't be able to send or receive SMS or MMS whatsoever. I'm going to do more testing today, but could DOZE be turning off my cell radio when it goes to sleep somehow so that they phone doesn't "see" the text messages when they come in? I'm hoping it's a software problem. Here's my rom info:
EUI VERSION: 5.8.015S (Stable)
Build Number: FEXCNFN5801507014S
Security Update: June 1, 2016
Please help! Oh, and last thing, I've already tried changing the messaging app from default, to Google Messenger, to Textra and it doesn't seem to make any difference.
Try with rom CM13, everything wil be ok.
I have the same phone and same problem and I fixed it. Search on Playstore Handcent Next SMS and install it than click Inbox > More > Settings > All > MMS (Network settings for MMS) > MMS framework than select Smart > Carrier Setup > Mode (Select from list) than just choose your country and your carrier thats it. I hope you can fix the problem. if you fix the problem just let me know please. Sorry about my english.

I didn't fix it, but I found what the problem was, and I found a workaround. Refer to this post here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/le-max-2/help/swiping-app-closed-task-manager-t3481571
Basically, if I leave the messing app (textra) running in the background, I get all the messages and texts. But If I use the app manager/recent apps button and swipe the textra app to close it, somehow the system disables it until I open it again. That's why I was missing messages. So my workaround is to ALWAYS leave the Textra app running in the background and never swipe it closed.

Hi,
I had almost the same issue as you. I did try a custom rom and thought it fixed it, I couldn't unroot that one and BT didn't work though so I went back to stock, sometimes with SMS and some times without. Then the other day I was peeking in the hidden menu and saw something I couldn't understand "SMS over IMS" - it's apparently a way to use SMS as a IP-messenger i.e SMS over LTE. I tried to set it to "NO" which seems to have fixed it.
can you tell where is this hidden menu for "SMS over IMS"?
Thanks!
