Question Question regarding Korean variant of s23 ultra - Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

Hi,
I recently purchased a korean s23 ultra (sm-s918N) which I've been enjoying. I've read it's possible to unlock other bands using the US rom. Is it possible to flash to the US rom on a Korean s23 ultra, considering the hardware is the same?
Any info would be much appreciated.

U1 is carrier unlocked, s9+ w/SD processor. Sadly, the BL is still locked, however

Why so little development on Snapdragon variant?

As the title says, i just got my device and waited the 7 days to unlock it, only to find that there is not much for my variant
why is this? will it ever change? what can a snapdragon variant user do?
thanks in advance
I don't believe it's been rooted.

Because that variant is as far as I'm aware is the US variant. Vast majority of dev work is on the non-US variants of Galaxy devices as vast majority of devs are non-US.

Trying to find out if I can flash an official UK Firmware on a USA Galaxy S9+

My sister bought me a Samsung Galaxy S9+ for my birthday but because she lives in America and I live in the UK I'm having issues with certain apps, especially Samsung Pay which won't allow me to use it as it only recognises me as being in America due to the Firmware restrictions, I can sign in fine, my account is registered in the UK but as I said, it's the Firmware restrictions so I can't use it at all.
I'm hoping someone knows if it's possible for me to replace the USA Firmware with a UK Firmware version? It's caused a lot of havoc in many different ways for me but I cherish the phone since it was a birthday present from the sweetest sister ever! ?? ♥
Congratulations on your new phone from your sister! Unfortunately if the model# is G965U or G965U1, you will be limited to US firmwares. The global model has a different processor and the firmwares are incompatible.

Thanks, I had a feeling it would be bad news but that's worse because it actually is an SM-G965U1 ?
She also sent me another phone, it's a BLU ENERGY XL, the OS is terrible on it, I don't suppose you have any recommendations for a firmware I can install via the SD Card on that do you? ??
Thank you so much for your help, I really appreciate it ??

You're welcome, but sorry for that news. I can't think of any other options for Samsung Pay either, since the US model doesn't currently have a root method. As for the BLU ENERGY, I don't know anything about it so the best I can recommend is look it up in the forums here on XDA, or maybe another similar site? Good luck!

Does US S21 or its variant have esim?
Haven't seen any info on any sites unlike S20 and Note20 where there was mention.

Don't have a definitive answer but it's not likely. Carrier Branded devices are firmly opposed to giving their customers alternative network options. That's the same reason all US devices are single sim.
it is not supported based on answer from Samsung product expert:-
https://imgur.com/a/AySogpp
More than likely it will be supported only on the unlocked version bought directly from Samsung. If you get a carrier version, the device would have to be carrier unlocked to enable eSIM. My AT&T S20 Ultra, flashed with the U1 software, enabled me to have eSIM functionality. I'm assuming it will be the same with the S21.
on samsung dot com, it said esim supported.

Wait, your S20 ultra Snapdragon US version supports eSIM and you can actually use it on AT&T? I thought that was only possible on the Fold2 ?

Their website says it is supported under FAQ. These "product experts" just guess and don't always know the true answer to technical questions. Previously they said it was supported, so I would assume this time it must be supported if they are denying it

Yes it does support it, and I can use it on AT&T. However, only after flashing the U1 firmware and it being carrier unlocked did it work.

This is true, it is supported. A lot of product reps don't really know much.

S20 range has esim support - so it would make sense that s21 has it too - is not like it cost them more
the Q is whether or not your carrier supports it and most likely NO
at least here in UK no major career supports it yet or plans too
LTE Smart watches? Voda now supports https://newscentre.vodafone.co.uk/news/esim-support-comes-to-vodafone-uk-smartphones/ for certain phones S21 included
I spoke to Samsung on the phone yesterday about this. I ordered the S21U 512gb (brown) unlocked version and they said it’s esim + nano sim. For what it’s worth, it took three different people to get an answer on that and I’m not even convinced they knew for sure.
I don’t understand why Samsung is being weird about the specs...
Guys, please remember that Samsung uses AI Chat bots and the cheapest 3rd world labor for their support. Don't take ANYTHING they say as gospel, until you see it for yourself.
I was in.tiuch with samsung retail support and they said the unlocked US version does support Esim. I specifically asked if it could be used as a dual sim and they said yes. Time will tell!

I was just told yesterday by their Twitter team that the phone doesn't have DSDS but you can activate either the eSIM or nano SIM with only one activated at a time. The phone support team (E-commerce) told me very clearly that it IS dual-SIM DSDS. This is becoming more confusing as time goes on.
Sorry for off-topic, but, if supported, does eSIM consume more battery than nano SIM? Does eSIM have any impact on battery?
This is called Bait and switch, and is against the law. It clearly states on the S21 US website (https://www.samsung.com/us/smartphones/galaxy-s21-5g/#!) under FAQ "
Do Galaxy S21 5G and S21+ 5G support eSIM?
Yes, you can use an electronic SIM, known as eSIM, with Galaxy S21 5G and S21+ 5G. The eSIM allows you to activate a mobile network plan right on your phone, so you can switch data plans or add an overseas phone number without the physical Nano SIM."
I would like to know who else is interested in filing a class action suit.

How did this harm you or impact you financially? Because without that, you don't have any basis for a class action suit. ****ty of Samsung to do, but that has nothing to do with the law.
Just got my S21 Ultra. UK, 512GB model, and it's dual sim, but doesn't seem to support eSim as well. I'm happy with dual sim

Question Does the S23 ULTRA support DUAL SIM DUAL ACTIVE (DSDA)

Thanks for the reply. Do you have link for more details ? also, if I change the firmware (CSC) TO China do you think it will work since they have have same (SOC) and 5g modem chipset ?
There are EU regions with dual-SIM enabled for the S23 series. I would suggest trying one of those first.

They are same Hardware but verry different firmware and not interchangeable by CSC and you can't just flash Chinese firmware on any other device unfortunately
Feature was mentioned here in Qualcomm news letter

Seeing how that person is in Pasadena, CA, I question if it has to be the Chinese model.
It's stupid if Samsung doesn't support DSDA but I guess at the end of the day, it doesn't really affect me, as I use one SIM for calls and text and the other for data.
Through Odin, the firmware might be interchangeable. We just don't know yet because not many of us have our devices. What made conversions more challenging in the past with Samsung devices, was the different hardware. We don't have that here for most of the world.now. The Chinese version will not have eSIM capabilities because eSIM is illegal in China. We're probably going to be waiting on a custom ROM or combination ROM to get DSDA or DSDS for pSIM's enabled on North American versions, if the pins are there. From what I have heard, they should be. My eyes aren't good enough to see in side.of.my T-Mobile version to tell though and there is no place to buy a replacement dual-SIM tray in green yet to even see what happens when a second pSIM is inserted in slot 2.
With OnePlus, converting a device to another region or firmware, like with my 8T and 7 Pro, was fairly easy. However, OnePlus/OPPO cracked down on this and removed the second set of SIM pins making dual-SIM on North American models impossible.

Interesting. This year though, no Exynos might be the game changer. EU firmware tends to be a lot more friendly for North American use from my experiences flashing OnePlus devices. This is my first Samsung since the Note 9 though. Definitely looking forward to some flashing goodness once developers start taking an interest in the S23 devices.
Edit: T-Mobile should get me my SIM unlock by launch day so I am definitely interested in trying once the SIM lock is gone on my device.
I'm glad that I was linked this article before buying an S23. Might pick up the Oneplus 11 5G instead.

It is also region dependent on one plus 11 you have to get Chinese version & unfortunately this year Chinese oneplus 11 units are region locked & cant make phone calls outside china
I want to know why DSDA is being limited to only China. Seems stupid to me.
