Help reinstalling edge panels - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I previously deleted edge panels on my Samsung phone, but now I want to reinstall it. When I use the command:
adb shell cmd package install-existing com.samsung.android.app.cocktailbarservice it does show up in settings. But when I try to enable it, nothing happens.
Is there another package that needs to be reinstalled or did I just completely break the function.

Welcome to XDA.
Factory reset will fix it

That cocktail service one is needed for one if memory serves me correctly.
Anything with "egde" in it.

You're welcome, hope this helps.
This is on a N10+ running on Pie. In Android 10 and above there may be more "egde" system apps added to preserve functionality.
Beware of uninstalling the numerous Samsung system apps unless you know exactly what they do. Target the resource and power hogs; most just sit there unless called upon and use very little resources. Many modify the UI and as such are useful.

I was careful when uninstalling. I just didn't think I'd have a use for edge panels. I guess I'll just have to factory reset :/

Probably best to find the root cause rather than factory reset if possible as otherwise the issue will likely reoccur. Go into settings, do a search for "edge panel", see if it pulls it up and if it opens. It can be less than straight forward at times when setting it up.
The Edge cut/paste panel is real handy, and the Smart select panel.
The app names can be sometimes misleading as well or have dependencies you use.
I block about 80 packages. I'm still adjusting my list. I've had this N10+, still running on Pie for over 3 years and still find features I didn't know about or forgot about. Factory loaded Gookill apps are some of the worst offenders... it's not just Samsung.

[Q] Help: Rouge App! Possible Adware

So maybe two days ago I rebooted my phone and got a weird notification. A white star with a circle in the center telling me I "have 1 new message." it brings you to ad.leadboltapp.net and quickly forwards you to addjump.com. I can't figure out what's causing this. Anyone have any ideas?
I've done a complete wipe, relfash, and partial restore with TB only to have it come back.

Hi Mate
Without more info im a little unsure it does look like a potential adware program. When you flashed did you wipe all cache from the phone it may be the program is hidden in the cache folders.
Yes, sir. All cache, all stats... everything you can do from cw recovery. the only thing left I can think of is reflash with odin and reinstall apps one at a time and rebooting after each installation.
What other info would help?
Did you find out what this was? I had the same thing just now. Also had some strange "Service messages" lately.
It's probably an app with Airpush or whatever it's called that puts ads in your notification bar. There's an app to detect apps that use the technology. If that's what it is, uninstall the app. If not, you may need to do a full wipe/RUU/restore or whatever you prefer.

Look for AirPush Detector in the Market. Install and run it, and it will tell you which app is responsible.
Thanks for the help. Unfortunately, AirPush detector didn't find. I'm going to move to a new ROM soon anyway and probably won't re-install half the apps I have. So hopefully I'll lose whatever it was.
Thanks again.
Never figured it out. I wiped everything and only installed a quarter of my apps. My guess is that one of my apps was being naughty. Not sure which one, I don't have the patience to determine which one.

Well then you may be out of luck. It most likely came from an app that you got from somewhere other then the market. Not the best idea.
It's some stupid app you installed. Lol. Also it's rogue*

Never had any none market apps.
I had the same issue and used AirPush detector which identified one of my themes used with Go Launcher as the spammer.
You can also try "Addons Detector". It is supposed to be more effective than AirPush Detector.
I´ve removed all the live wallpapers and themes that downloaded after installed my Go Launcher and it functioned... I have not received any "star" in my status bar in the last two days... Thank you to all who contributed in this thread

Chrome and Gmail app: placements got reversed

I have no idea what I did so now everything that was on the right side (menu, submit, etc) is now on the left side. The URL bar and etc, which was more towards the left originally is now on the right. I'm sure it's a setting issue but I have no idea what to change.
hello, still need help with this. basically ... use to be on the right, now it's on the left and because of it, everything else is being reversed in placement.

Wow. I had no idea that was even possible. Is it just for those two apps? If so, then go into settings and clear the data for both of them.

Yeah, I already tried those suggestions but it still doens't fix it...so seems like some system issue. I thought it would be something to LEFT HAND related? but it doesn't seem to be unless if I am looking at something different. It's not all apps but some apps. I didn't root or anything yet and AE6...forgot when it exactly happen.

facebook
seems to be affected...
Looks like you have your setting set to Right to Left, instead of standard Left to Right.
Did you try checking device locale (not language)?

Strange mode on On5 S550TL. Can anyone explain?

So I was messing around with a Galaxy On5 that Straight Talk had sent me for free. I was rooting it and along my journey I found myself in a very strange mode that I would like to figure out how to return to. The phone booted up with some arrows along the bottom, or gears and said Factory something. It was some strange developer test mode or, something along those lines. It was a weird home screen with blue(I think) squares and abbreviations in them. There was a long stretched green battery bar at the top with segments. There was also some strange applications, but notably, and the reason I want to get back into this, there was what I believe to be the default AM/FM radio app. This app was different from the ones you find by 3rd parties, it had an older appearance and did not require anything to be plugged into the phone jack to work. It also worked quite well compared to other radio apps. There were a few other test type features like vibrate and what not. This was not safe mode, as it almost looked like a completely different operating system. Is there anyone who can give me any insight as to what the heck this was? I have tried Googling all kinds of things to try finding something similar but nothing at all, just the typical Recovery and Download modes which I am already familiar with.
Can you post an image? Screenshot or taken with another camera.

Unfortunately I was unable to get a screenshot or picture when this happened.
How did you get back from.
Its surprising no one had found this "easter egg" before.

I think it happened when I flashed a rom. I can't remember I was messing with the darn phone for hours. I might try to replicate it though, haven't decided if I want to risk losing my root.
I figured out the mode is called Factory Binary and is triggered by flasing a firmware I found with odin in AP.

Images won't embed properly. Using prntscr
Edit, after hours of research, I realized it's not some 'secret' mode or anything, it's simply a factory testing software.
Too bad I couldn't pull the AM/FM app from it through, would really like to use it.

strange stats on display covering everything

Hello,
Sorry if I'm not posting this in the right place, however I don't know where else to try.
Since yesterday evening, I have some strange cpu and battery stats on my rooted Galaxy S6 device:

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
These stats appear on top of everything, including my secure lockscreen, camera, etc, which makes me think this is some hidden Android feature.
The reason why I'm posting is: I personally didn't enable this, I've had some guests yesterday, but none of them is really tech-savvy, and I don't have any additional apps installed since yesterday.
Does anybody have any idea what this is and how to disable it?
Thanks
It's of an app installed on your device, AccuBattery, check it's settings, or uninstall it if you don't need it.

Wow, I feel like a complete idiot.
Apparently, after I bought accubattery, I didn't notice that I had new options available in it's menu.
Someone must have turned the on.
For reference, anyone else who gets this - in Accubattery, open up the main menu and you have Overlay Settings. That's where you can enable or disable the overlay statistics.
The weird thing is that they will appear on top of everything, which can seen confusing, and rather annoying.

Trying to get one-handed mode working for a disabled co-worker.

Hello all. My coworker lost a portion of her dominant thumb recently. She's on a Pixel 2 on Android 11. Is there any way she can permanently make the phone's screen only take up a smaller portion of the whole display? So in essence, to have a decent chunk of padding on the left and top parts of the screen so she can always reach every part of the screen?
Her phone is rooted. We tried a few DPI and resolution changer apps, but none of them did what we want which is to have a bunch of padding to the left and from the top, permanently.
Preferably the setting would be permanent and not needed to be turned on, and will work across all apps. We tried the "One-Handed Mode" module for Gravitybox but it did nothing when applied.
Is there any way to accomplish this with an ADB command or some sort of app that we haven't found yet?
Anyone?
If downgrading to Android 10 is an option, overscan would work like a charm.
wm overscan [reset|LEFT,TOP,RIGHT,BOTTOM]
wm density [reset|DENSITY]
Google it...

Thanks for the snarky and useless reply; this video only makes the keyboard work with one hand, not the entire phone screen.

Sadly downgrading isn't an option but is there any way to do this in Android 11 if she's rooted?

Sorry to hear about "her" power tool incident.

Short of a prosthetic or transplant, adaptation is the only alternative and all the former have their limits.
There's this on the Note's... it's in the firmware, not an app. whatever...

Yes which is why I specifically asked if it can be done on a Pixel phone that is rooted.
