I just got this phone myself, and I'm hoping to see a section for it.
Are you having any issues with wifi calling. For some reason it will not stay connected for me. It will connect for a little bit then just randomly disconnects. My G2's wifi calling works perfectly so I'm wondering if it just doesn't work well on the Cliq 2 or if one of the built in connection manager apps is interfering with it. Anyone who had this issue please post and fixes you found. Thanks

I haven't used the Wifi calling just yet, but I had a similar problem with Navigator. Was in NYC, and was using it to get me around, and it just stopped working. It was losing the data connection, and it would just stop cold turkey. Sounds similar to your problem with Wifi calling. Probably data connection related.
This MotoBlur is bull****. My sister owns a Motorola Flipside, and the software on that blows. Had to do a number of things to get that phone working right. I'm hoping for some CM7 roms on both of these phones. So far, nobody cooked any yet. Makes me miss using my G1 phone, since it had a pretty nice setup with the abundance of custom roms available. Just a SIM card swap away.
Of course, the first thing needed is a section for the Cliq 2.
The c2 is still a redheaded stepchild at this point. There is some work starting now over at m3 but it would be really nice to see something going over here.
There's already a deblurred rom with some goodies included. Someone is working on porting CM6 and maybe eventually CM7.
That is correct over at m3 there are 2 roms and a custom recovery out at this point. Looks like some good things are starting to happen!

what version of z4root did you use for get rooted you cliq 2?
Just use OneClickRoot to root this phone. The latest version works fine. The Gingerbread release has a custom root that you'll need to apply. It's on ModmyMobile.com .

I am trying to decide on switching from my 64GB 3G iPad 1 to a Galaxy Tab 10.1 and was hoping you could give me some feedback?
Basically, I have been something of an Apple user for the last few years, but have recently gotten an SGS2 which I just love....way more than my iPhone 4S!
As the iPad 1 is now a little old, and quite a heavy beast, I am thinking of going for a 10.1 instead. I can only really afford a 16GB one (with 3G), so would plan to get a SD card adapter for playing bigger files.
I have seen some threads on this from a good few months ago, so was hoping that with firmware tweaks, etc, there may be more updated views out there?
Any thoughts you guys have would be great!

When I first got my Tab 10.1, I was a little dispointed. It was laggy and kinda slow. I played with my gf's pad2 before i got the tab (wich i got from my gf). And i notice that the pad was much more "smoother".
After a few weeks, i decided to root and flash a costume rom, best thing ever.
Now the tab is more faster and "smoother" than the ipad2.
There is more to the tab then the ipad. More customize etc.
So if you consider a tab, you might want to flash a costume rom to get a better experience.
Im using Task650 6.2 rom with pershoot kernel (wich is overclockable)

Keep in mind that the hardware version you get will affect which ROMs you would be able to use. Not all galaxy tab 10.1's are the same.
Due to its popularity the wifi only tabs have a greater number of ROMs wheras those of us on Verizon tabs for example have to either use Liquidspeed or take the leaked 3.2 ROM and customize it.
I really like my Verizon version though.
After playing with my in-laws iPads, and my rooted thunderbolt, I picked up this galaxy.
A few times I have been *almost* to the point of getting rid of it. Maybe after I can find out how to root the VZW 4G one I have, it will get better. The internet is VERY laggy on mine. I have tried the OEM browser, firefox, dolphin and they all stink.

Yeah I was going to make mention of this as well. Personally I have the 3G 8.9, which I absolutely love, because I think Samsung hit the nail right on the head with the size sweet spot; even my Apple "fan-girl" sister saw it and was like "Whoa, that is really slick! What is that?"
Anyway, what I was about to say/ask is, considering you're not really going to be able to make any GSM calls on the tablet anyway, is there any specific reason you need to have 3G as opposed to sharing your SGS2's 3G via tethering? If being able to send/receive text message on a bigger screen is your concern, then may I suggest Tablet Talk? Basically the app actively syncs your text messages from your phone to your tablet via Bluetooth and/or WiFi. Uses very minimal battery, and it very useful. Even if you have conversations entirely on your tablet, they still show up in your phone's logs and message strings, so it's not fragmented or anything.
So, to break it down:
You already have SGS2.
Tablet Talk = SMS on your tablet via your SGS2
Mobile data connection = Tethering to your SGS2
WiFi versions = more popular in the dev community = better dev support
WiFi version = cheaper by ~£100 in most cases
Conclusion = Get WiFi version of GTab 10.1/8.9?
Unless of course I've missed something here, and the 3G version is still an absolute must...
What are your thoughts?

Rule of thumb for future reference for anyone buying mobile devices:
Never, ever, EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER(!!!!) buy a device which has been subsidized, customized, or otherwise touched in ANY way shape or form, by a carrier.
Carrier subsidized devices = Slower, bloated, locked down, controlled (by carrier), less popular for development, less chance of getting it to do what you want.
Solution:
Sell your 4G VZW Tab.
Get VZW LTE hotspot instead.
Get WiFi Tab instead.
Enjoy better dev support on your Tab device.
Continue to enjoy LTE speeds via your hotspot.
Profit.

I have a SGS2 and had a Wi-Fi Tab which I just replaced with a UK 3G version. Tethering is a pain in the ass.
- Get out the SGS2 and enable Wi-Fi Sharing
- Turn Wi-Fi on and connect the Tab
- Disconnect Wi-Fi on the Tab
- Turn off Wi-Fi Sharing on the SGS2
I was always forget to turn off Wi-Fi sharing and it kills the SGS2's battery. If you're traveling, it's great to whip out the Tab and instantly have access to e-mail and messaging without having to go through the above four step process.
Here's something to think about when deciding between Wi-Fi and 3G:
- I use the Tab as my primary e-mail and messaging device now because it's a joy to have the additional real estate to read and compose messages. The SwiftKey split keyboard is great and you can really pick up some speed for longer messages.
- Wi-Fi Sharing sucks battery on the phone. A couple of times I found myself screwed because my phone battery was low right before I needed to get on a long conference call.
- If you're on AT&T you can add-a-line for $9.99 and get unlimited data for $10 for the Tab. I also added unlimited messaging to mine for $10.
- The Tab switches between Wi-Fi and 3G automatically so it's always connected and your e-mail, messages, and anything else you're syncing are always current which means it doesn't slow to a crawl when you first start it while it's updating everything. It gets amazingly good battery life even when connected to 3G 24/7.
- Between my phone and Tab I burn through 10-14GB of data a month. If I did that while tethering there's a good chance I'd get flagged by AT&T for excessive usage. It's safer to split the data between the two devices and I'm still only paying $20 a month for data between both of them.
- There's a rumor that ICS will support GSM calling. If so, that will be a great benefit for video and conference calls. At a minimum, you've got the bonus of a second line/SIM that you can use by popping it in to another phone.
The benefits of 3G over the Wi-Fi version really depend on how you use your device. If you travel a lot I'd strongly recommend 3G. If you use it at home and/or always have access to Wi-Fi then save the money on the device and plan and go with Wi-Fi only.
Exactly what I need to know for real life usage. Majority of the being around WiFi connection will only make more sense to actually get a WiFi model and sorry about the moving out and about with a WiFi Tethering or might as well get a mobile hotspot to move around with

Back to topic, Tab would be better off with its customization and everytime flashing will virtually give the tab a new lease of life to it.
Alright so I've never rooted my phone or done anything fancy with it as far as that goes. Recently the ICS update was released and I didn't update right away, wasn't sure how bad it would mess up my current settings etc. After reading that it retained all my settings and functionality I decided to upgrade. Ok so first off I can't Tether anymore and my portable wifi hotspot does not work either, I'm on Rogers and in Canada, never heard of 'tethering plans' such as other people refer to with AT&T. I have my 4g enabled, can retrieve internet access, and as soon as I turn on my portable hotspot my phone is unable to access the 4g anymore, It enables a wifi hotspot but anything that connects to it gets limited connectivity and can't access the internet either. It's like the phone just shuts it off automatically. I used to use this all the time and was one of my favorite features about my phone.. If I'm unable to use this I don't even want the data plan that I currently have, the data plan I decided on DUE to this feature.. So I'm gonna be pretty pissed off if this amazing little update is trying to force me to pay for something that I already pay extra to utilize properly.
I could be wrong here but I'm pretty damn sure that the battery life has dropped by close to 20% I can watch the percentage go down while I'm doing stuff and it seems to be losing life a lot quicker now, and I noticed that after the first day of using ICS. The resolution on the unlock screen seems to be botched, It's very squished... My old version never did this, and it's kind of annoying for my background images and having the clock looking out of whack.
I'm not sure what to do, there doesn't seem to be an update and as far as I know the update has been out for awhile now, why hasn't this stuff been fixed, who can I make official complaints to as far as Samsung or Rogers goes? Is factory reset the only real option to fix things, and will that even help my tethering issues?
Also things like browsing through Facebook can eat up 5% of my battery in five or ten minutes... I know for sure that it never used to do that. I don't get why the battery life would be effected so drastically, but even when It's just sitting around while I sleep I lose a higher % of battery life than I did before... I've browsed through various threads but there doesn't seem to be many options, is anyone able to respond to the issues I'm having?
Flash a custom ROM. It's easy, and the experience is much better. There are guides in the stickies on everything you need to do.

Like he said above me, flashing a custom rom would fix your problems. I'd recommend CM9 ICS. It's pretty stable and my favorite so far. Downside is you lose S-Pen functionality.

I had the same problem and found two possible solutions:
1- I installed foxfi and i was able to use the wifi hotspot. I still wasn't able to access the native wifi hotspot functionality on the phone, but foxfi did the same thing so no big deal.
2- factory reset. this option is a little radical, but as has been explained elsewhere on this forum, the upgrade doesn't clear some configurations that remain from the GB ROM and those conflict with things like wifi hotspot and cardock and several other things.
I had to eventually do the factory reset. It was a nuisance because i had to reinstall everything, but now my phone works great and I can access all the native functionality.
You could also flash a custom ROM, but I have done it and while they are faster and sexier than the STOK ROM you always have to give up some functionality and they always have some bugs, and once you start flashing custom ROMs you can get OFD and we may lose you forever... (I had it from my windows mobile days and I would flash a new ROM sometimes more than once per day)..
Root (flash cwm with Odin), do a factory reset, and then flash the rooted/deodexed version of the UCLF6 stock rom. You won't lose ANY functionality, and your phone will be quick as hell again -- or even faster.

If you gonna flash a rooted/deodexed version of the UCLF6 stock ROM, no need to root before hand, just put CWM on and flash away.
Foxfi worked for me. But it doesn't connect right away to the Internet, had to inniate a browser then it connected.

XDA is no longer worth my time.
Factory reset fixed it for me.
TimOster; I did not use Klies, I am with Rogers so I assume it was one of their Roms, It was a wireless download but through my homes Wifi I believe. And I don't really think I did it manually, I got an update message on my phone one day didn't even realize it was ICS at first, but of course it gave me lots of warnings and obviously realized what it was before doing it, but I wasn't expecting this lol, I wish I had checked it out online first I would have seen all the complaints and just stuck with the old version.
I'm thinking about trying a factory reset first, and if that doesn't fix things, mainly the battery issues, then I'll try a stock rom.
No one seems to mention anything about the battery usage though, am I the only one noticing this effect? :\
XDA is no longer worth my time.

Loooong time lurker, finally made an account.
I am going to be switching my phone from a thunderbolt to a galaxy S3, but there's still a lot of life left in the Thunderbolt.
I'd like to flash a barebones or light weight ROM to the phone.
I'm going to setup AutomatIt to turn on DailyRoads Voyager whenever the phone detects a bluetooth connection (from the stereo in the car).
I'm currently running an infected rom on my Thunderbolt, and it's very old. I haven't flashed a new rom on this phone in years! I'm out of touch with where to find current roms and I've spent the last two days looking for something barebones to put on the phone and have come up short.
Are there any roms that might be tailored to function as a dashcam? If not, are there any recommendations for light weight roms?

Okay so a bit of a back story. I bought this phone for my dad for his birthday one year ago. And so far he's loving it, but now he's run into some problems.
The main issue is, for some reason the wifi signal strength on his phone has gotten worse. It used to catch the wifi signal at a place in my house till maybe a week ago, but now it doesn't. Because of this he used almost 1 GB above his data pack this month (unknowingly, of course).
Since my dad is using it, he's running everything pure stock. No root, no recovery, no custom ROM, no nothing. Now I checked this forum and saw that you guys have ported a stable KitKat build to this phone (congrats, BTW!). What I want to know is, does this come with a new radio too? And will this new radio help in receiving slightly better wifi strength? He gets the signal up to 5 meters away from his room, so all I need is to increase the range by just 5 meters.
So can you guys recommend some stuff? Either a new ROM/radio, maybe an app (but I don't think these work, right?)... But please recommend only fully stable builds. My dad is not tech savvy so he won't understand what to do when there's a bug.

I am not a very seasoned developer but I have flashed many Roms on my Canvas HD. So firstly you mentioned that your phone hasn't been rooted. There are plenty of tutorials available online to root your phone. To flash Roms, mods root is a must.
And yes, Roms do improve WiFi connection, phone speed, and in some cases even the battery life. Its all a matter of priorities, whether you want the newest version of android or longer battery usage. Since you need it for your dad, I recommend flashing any jelly bean ROM. It will be stable and perform well as a daily driver. Your WiFi speed and range will also improve because of the ROM tweaks. Hope that helps!
