Backup and restore Android stuff - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way to backup apps with their data? I need to do a factory reset in a phone, but I don't want to lose the applications data, or at least certain applications data.

Click to collapse
Generally you want to back up apps and system data if you want to keep things like wireless setup, etc. When you restore though, do not restore system apps, and restore your users apps with data, and the system data you would like to have, i.e. wireless settings.
I, for one, only backup user apps and data.
And I will support the dev if I feel the app is outstanding, which TB is in every way!

Moving ROM and Backup

Hey all.
I want to move from Litening ROM to VillainROM while preserving all my user apps and system data (apps, menu's, folders, texts, everything)
I've got TitaniumBackup. Do I simply do a full backup of all user and system apps and data through TiB, flash VillainROM through Odin, reinstall TiB, replace TiB backup folder, and do a Restore all apps with data?
This is my gf's phone, so my balls are literally on the line here
Many thanks.

Problem with restoring my date from TB

I've deleted all my system data (with CWN) by mistake but just before doing that I've made a TB backup of all my app and system data, and also I've a CWN backup from 2 days ago.
I've restore all my data from the CWN backup but it is missing the all of my data which been saved in the past 2 days since I've done that CWN's backup I'm now trying to restore my app's data from the TB backup (games saves and so) but TB want me to reintall all my apps which are all ready are install on my phone.
Which option in need to choose in order to restore only my app's data (as I've said, games's saves)
please need help with that.
P.S- if I can't restore that data I would like to delete TB, does the Nandroid Backup relay on the TB backup in anyway?
Now kies air doesn't work... after I push the start button the app shutdown.
someone?????

Quick question about switching ROMs

If I am switching ROMs of the same build, lets say CM10 7/23 build to a future unofficial CM10 build, would it be necessary to do a data wipe and factory reset?
Necessary? Probably not. A good idea? Probably yes.
Okay so similarly if I go to CM10 from another Rom wipe data and reset... but if I backup my with Titanium Backup what is recommended to be restored after flash? All system data + apps + app data, just apps and data or just apps. If I have contacts backed up to email etc, photos and such data stored elsewhere... would it be recommended to use the least amount of data restored from last install to the new Rom? I just donr want to load wrong values upon restoring my apps. I don't mind if app data or system data is factory reset but not if unnecessary and only if its not a prob and won't mess up any Ron specific settings.

Can flashing the wrong System App in TI HARD brick your phone

or cause problems (ie missing sim card) even after a factory reset of custom ROM?
i. What does crossed out mean in TI?
ii. How do I delete an app I don't need anymore off the TI list? swiping to the left and delete it only changes it so there is 'no backup' I want to make it easy to batch restore without deselecting too many things selectively...anyone?
Can't hard brick from that, but definitely could soft brick or cause other odd issues. Factory reset does not return your phone to stock, but rather just removes your accounts, settings, and data. So, if you remove a system app that is essential, a factory reset will not help. As someone who has flashed 1000++ roms (not kidding), I recommend only freezing the apps and not removing. You do not get any extra space from removing the apps as they are stored in a different partition than the apps you add from the Play Store or other means. However, system apps updated through the Play Store will store some data in the /data partition, and if you are not going to use that then it helps to uninstall the update through the Application Manager, and then disabling the app. It's also way easier to defreeze vs reinstall system apps.
Crossed out means that the app is not installed and there is no backup for it. Once you uninstall an app and it's backup, the app will not be available to restore when you go to do a batch restore. As far as only being selective, just make sure that you uncheck the ones you don't need when you make the initial backup. It is not recommended to backup / restore system data, especially when you are switching roms.
