Curious if the S23 Ultra from Best Buy, the "unlocked" model can be rooted and allow me to unlock the bootloader?
If it's in north America, the answer is no for ANY version because its all s918u/u1 and both of those don't have the OEM unlock option no matter what.
Ugh that sucks, but thanks for the reply.
So what is the benefit of the unlocked version at Best Buy versus the carrier versions?

Those are network unlocked so you can use them on any network that is supported by the bands on the modem in the phone vs a network locked from a carrier can be unlocked after it's paid off and then you can use it on any network

Hey guys,
I have pre ordered the S3 ( AT&T) version and I will be using it in Canada, now I am not sure if I should cancel my preorder and buy the international version or stick with AT&T unlocked one, I bought it because it does support LTE but at the moment Fido doesn't support LTE ( they said they will this year).
I am worried about the battery life since I read that LTE eats the battery, can I disable LTE? Also what about firmware updates since I am in another country and the phone is for AT&T, would I be able to upgrade to the latest once they release it and how?
I have never used android before and I don't know alot about phone so my questions might be noobish

I don't think the AT&T version is unlocked. I think it is locked to that carrier and you can only use it on AT&T. I suggest you get the international version.

It is actually unlocked, I am worried in terms of updating the firmware and stuff, so if at&t releases an update how can I get it? and also is there an option in Android to disable LTE?
Thanks

if it is sim/carrier unlocked the I think so, @hamdogg will have the definitive on the freq. for LTE I think.
But be aware the the Bell phones are bootloader locked so you will never be able to run custom ROMs, only Sony based ones, getting and keeping root is not the easiest.
USA snapdragon.
Any frequency issues? Can they be fixed?
Any T-Mobile features not useable?
As far as I know (saw on other threads) T-Mobile supports all versions. Or better said, T-Mobile won't block any features if you use another phone on their network.

Hi can you tell me how you unlocked att s9 plus, i'm not able to unlock with att or third party unlock site, thanks in advance.
Mine is bought outright.
Then requested unlock code on at&t site.
An independent dealer told me her att phone wouldn't do hotspot when on tmobile.
Maybe that varies per phone model and/or android version.
Would have to try to be sure.
Hi,
Have an unlocked ATT phone on Tmobile, wifi calling doesn't work.
That's why I'm staying on att...plus asking around, tmobile still needs better coverage here.
Dear Friends,
Very quick question, searched and searched and can't obviously find the answer to this question... But, dowsing the Verizon V30 come factory SIM unlocked like all other Verizon phones? Or does it need to be SIM unlocked? If is does need to be unlocked, what method is it to do so? Buying an unlock code or requesting Verizon to do it?
Finally, if it does come out unlocked out of the box like other Verizon phones, have any of you been using it on AT&T? How's your experience? What's missing?
Thank you!

Yes, Verizon phones are SIM card unlocked/carrier unlocked -- since 2012.
But Verizon said they were going to start locking them for 90 days to prevent theft from stores and delivery trucks. Not sure if they've started that yet.
You can always convert it to carrier unlocked US998 and not worry about it.
That's what people do with the carrier locked Sprint LS998. Just turn it into carrier unlocked model US998.
I run my US998 on AT&T. See the Frankenstein thread.
ChazzMatt has given you the correct advice here (as per usual).
Thank you for your response bud! So does that mean that much like the Samsung phones, the hardware across all carrier phones is the same, it's just the firmware and etc that needs to be changed?
Does the unlocked firmware unlock additional bands?
Can you point me to this thread/guide you mentioned? Thank you!

Even though it says LS998 to US998, it's really for ANY North America variant, like Verizon VS996. Everyone has done it.
It will change your bands to the open market LG US998 V30.

US998
CDMA: 800 MHz CDMA
2G GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
3G UMTS (HSPA):850/900/1900/2100 MHz
4G LTE Bands: 1/2/3/4/5/7/12(17)/13/20/25/66
Hey guys when i go to Sony website and look up bootloader unlock instructions. it says the US variant is locked by verizon.
this is the version i have. Does that mean i cannot unlock bootloader? do i need to return my phone and the global version? The guides posted on here don't seem to mention the model number as if it matters.

Unless anything has changed, it is generally known that Verizon phones have a locked bootloader for customer security and in Verizon's interest.

Yea I am a first time sony buyer. the phone i have is actually the 5 IV which we don't have a forum for yet.
I usually am buying older phones with established guides and hacks to unlock on here. So i simply missed this since i didn't see it plastered everywhere on the front page of the some other sony forums. my bad.
I am not surprised. just ordered the wrong one thinking it didn't matter for the sony brand.
returning mine now. and ordering the 72.

It's the same reason I returned US version and bought international version ct72 . So make sure about bands supports for 71 it has 66 which is TMobile and band 41 which i get some good speed depending on the location I'm in.
same here I wanted to root and Use Repainter app and change fonts and I did have the CT62, but I return it back to Sony and bought the CT72, sad that sony doesn`t allow the bootloader to be unlocked on the CT62.

my exact thoughts, 1600.00, no thanks, buy the CT72 and save some money, only thing is you don`t get the USA warranty when you buy the Non-US version, and some missing 5G band`s and the missing MMWave bands
As @2015Ducatimulti mentioned, there is something missing there between the two version.
There is Hardware differences between CT72 and CT62. The US version supports has mmW support and also more bands that are available in the US such as band 2, 66, and 71 used by TMO in addition to mmW 260 and 261.
if your carrier does not have use of these bands and mmW frequencies, then the CT72 should still work as long as you flash the US version ROM. otherwise, you will have coverage issues due and high call drops due to the limited US band support

Flashing US ROM on ct72 will give you signal issues. So far i haven't found a way to get signal working on it.
That might make sense since the RF hardware is different between them and hence the software might not work as expected
FWIW, I just got the Xperia 1 IV, CT-72, using it on AT&T (primary subscriber, no MVNO). Just using the stock ROM, didn't flash any other ROMS.
So far I appear to have 5G as well as VoLTE. No VoWIFI, but I don't care about that anyway.
I'll use it for another week or so to see if AT&T decides to shutdown service for a non whitelisted device, but so far so good. And it was $840 new, vs $1600 for the USA version, so a HUGE cost difference
I by the way did first have to do the trick where you disable dual-sim and only use the primary SIM slot.
