I have a simple schematic available to anyone who wants to
connect a XDA to a Nokia 3330 Car kit (with HFU-5 Control Box)
All you need is a Patch Cable, 2xCapacitors and being good with
a soldering iron. Email me on [email protected] for details
The sound quality is excellent, but I need help with the radio
mute (i am using a small switch at the moment to 'activate' the
car kit). I need a good circuit techie to design a circuit that
will activate a relay when it detects a audio output from the
XDA so it will be fully automatic.

My schematics are listed to connect the XDA to a 3330 kit. I am working on a version for the nok 51/61 kit because of a huge enquiry.
Hope you enjoy

Carkit for XDA?

Is there someone who uses their XDA in a carkit (like a normal
GSM carkit), so not over the xda-speaker and microphone, as this
is just not good enough for "professional" usage....
Preferably with telephone mute for the car audio, or am I
getting overoptimistic?

I´m also looking for a "Carkit" for my XDA, but I haven´t found
anything yet. My next step is making my own. Connecting sound an
microphone seems to be no problem, but untol yet I didn´t get a
hint how make automaticl muting the radio.
Anyone got an idea?
Seems there is no pin, that indicates a ring on the connector.
Maybe it´s possible to use the audio signal.....

I too am developing a car kit. I have a nokia 3310 hands free
kit, I have modified it to use the XDA (The sound is exactly the
same as a nokia phone connected) .
The only problem was I had to use an external switch to divert
the calls to the car kit (and use the radio mute), but there can
be an upside. eg text messages/reminders dont mute the radio.
The wiring is very simple and the only components yu need are 2x
capactiors and a small DPDT switch!!! ([email protected])
Take a look at the XDA connector: Pin 19 CAR_ON isn't for starting the engine as it name suggests ;-), but to mute the CD/Radio.

No it isn't. It's an input pin. See the report at our connectors page:
we said:
CAR_ON# is connected to +6V on the car charger, it's not connected in the cradle. +6V makes the phone go to speaker mode immediately when picked up or dialing. When this pin is connected to ground, the internal mike and speaker are turned off, and audio input is taken from the audio input pin on the connector, for use in real car kits.

For lack of an audio mute output, one could build a schmitt-trigger and a timer to detect the presence of audio output and and mute the car radio accordingly.
Car Charger & Car On Signal
I just bougth a Car Charger for the xda, hoping that it works like you said (Phone should go to "free speaking"), but it did not.
So, i openend the connector seeing that only Pins 2, and 22 are connected.
I changed it to connect Pins 22 & 19 to the + 6V wire (in fact only 5.7 Volt)
and the Black one to Pins 15 and 17 ( it was a bit easier to solder). Its still not working.
Does it really need all the connections you said (19,21,22 to +6 V and
15,17,18 to GND) or is something else wrong?
hi guys
Well, I was a bit more hands on with that topic, I have a specialist here which said he could make everything working given the right plans, connectors etc.
Hangary is cheap in workforce but pretty impossible to get the stuff needed.
I allready posted an outcall, lets get our informations together and produce a working version for the market, I even would like to go further and implement GPS.
So?
Lets get it started and throw together all the imput etc.
Thoughts?

sorry.
I was working on a cradle mod that would allow for this. Was almost done when I destroyed a vital part with the soldering iron
As soon as I get hold of a new cradle I will resume my project. Pictures and instructions will be submitted to this site for publication.
Anyone has a spare cradle?

Qtek 9090 works with BMW Bluetooth!

Although I was somewhat skeptical before purchasing my XDA IIs (=Qtek 9090) whether it would work with the Bluetooth handsfree kit in my BMW 525d (E60) I managed to get it working! Sofar the only PDA Phone that works with BMW Bleutooth was the Treo 650.
The only difference in use with my Nokia 6310i is that the phonebook does not synchronize withthe car but that is not so bad because you can use the display of the XDA IIs to search your contacts or dial numbers. Dialing numbers through iDrive also works.
I have a Brodit 978612 holder that charges the XDA IIs and the display of the XDA IIs is easy to see. The only drawback is that you do not have an external antenna.
I did install the latest Bluetooth software (v3900) in my XDA IIs before trying it out.
Bluetooth in X5
I have a 2005 BMW X5 but have not managed to make my M2000 connect with the BMW Bluetooth system. Can you tell me the procuedure you used to bond with your car ? I am running version 1.0.0 Build 3500 on my M2000.
Thanks for your help.
Regards.

I would recommend installing the latest Bluetooth software to your M2000, V3900. I don't remember exactly what I did but make sure that in Phone Options you enable the Headset option. Also I have more consistent success in using the BMW BT handsfreekit when I leave Bluetooth on Xda IIs switched off until the BMW is running and then switch BT on.

Bluetooth carkit for XDA IIs

Has anyone found a bluetooth car kit for the XDA IIs that has half way decent sound quality? I'm on my second PARROTT kit and the quality is not good!
Looking for some recommendations or others user experiences with XDA IIs kits.
I havea similar issue...just got a QTEK 9090 in the form of a Vodafone1620....tried it with my existing Nokia BT HF Kit. Works great for me but callers are complaining about a very bad echo.
Bad Echo with Hands Free Kit
I have the same problem. I am on my second Blue Angel. One was a Qtek 9090 and I now have an XDA IIs. Both have a very bad echo when using it with a Nokia CK-7W bluetooth car kit, so much so that I now use a Bluetooth earpiece in the car.
I assume it is the Blue Angel that has the problem and not the car kit because my Nokia 6060 had no problem.
Car Kit
I use the Sony Ericson BT car kit and the sound quality is very good - no echos'a at all.
BT carkit for Blue Angel
So is the Sony Ericsson the best for sound recevied both by the caller and the receiver? anyone else tried this? I dont want to start a collection of bluetooth carkits if I can help it
Was this a professional install? Any particular Sony BT model?
Many thanks
BT car Kit
I'm using the Sony Ericson HCB-300 car kit.
I installed it myself.
It gets a bit of noise from the car at high speed  , but that's my car - not the car kit.
If I can throw in my uninformed two penn'rth: I own a Nissan which has bluetooth hands free through the radio/CD player. It pairs with my XDA2 but doesn't make or receive calls through it. It pairs with my old Sony Erricson 68i and works perfectly, with excellent sound at both ends of the call. If you are getting an echo, it is very likely that the hands free is not disconnecting the mic on the phone, so you are then getting feedback. A simple test would be to obscure the mic on the phone and try again. Won't solve the problem, but will at least show what's causing it.

XDA MiniS wired car kit

Hi all
Anyone got a wired in (non BT) car kit for this device
I'm looking at the Carcomm one.
Thanks in advance for any advise
Andrew
Hi
I have a THB Bury wired kit with radio muting which is excellent. Best bit is if you change your PDA you dont need to scrap the entire kit, you just buy a new docking sled for your new phone.
I have a combination of XDA Exec, Mini S, Blackberry 8700 and Nokias that I change between on a regular basis when testing different software and exchange syncing software. I just change the sled on the car kit and slip in the phone/pda I am using...
Makers website is at http://www.thb.de
Many places sell the parts or do a complete install package...
Merlin
I know this is a long time since this thread was posted to....
I can't find details of a THB cradle for the Mini-S, yet you say you use this with your Mini-S. Can you confirm that this phone is correctly supported with a proper designed cradle for it, or does it just use a generic bluetooth cradle? (I can find cradles for the other models you listed).
Thanks
Mike
