I've made an apparently successful upgrade of the rom and radio stuff but I'm missing two programs. The promised upgrade of o2's Active ui is non-existant as is the Multimedia Messaging composer.
Anyone had similar problems? Anyone know what I can do to get hold of them?
thanks
I think somebody said it appears after another reset.
bit vague

ok, anybody going to firm this up - kind of vague really and a bit of a pain if it doesn't really do the job
..?
I had this problem as well but it all started working OK again after I'd hard reset for the third time!
same for me, but working fine now. Just do another hard reset.
hard reset worked
how bizzarre. it does the job alright.
bit strange but who cares
- and all the other bits and pieces are working properly now like the bluetooth com ports
thanks for the tip
But doesn't a hard reset involve a full restore from your PC ... and doesn't that take about an hour :-(
After discussing why the BT headsets won't work properly, the O2 people suggested I upgrade the ROM. I had assumed that since I only bought the XDA2 from them 3 weeks ago that the ROM would be up to date. But it seems to be 1.03.00 USA and the radio version seems well behind. tch tch ! My question though is .... if I do a full back up via active sync then do the ROM upgrade, and a hard reset as instructed. Can I then restore everything from my PC and all the programmes and data will work OK. and a secondary question - does this work for the SD card too, or should I simply remove it and reinsert it once the upgrade is complete?
Mike
A hard reset is done by holding down the power button whilst inserting stylus into reset slot. It reboots immeddiately just like a soft reset, but the XDA is set back to factory default settings (losing all your data).
You can't restore a backup from one ROM to another. You will have to re-install all your new apps. If you've only got data on your SD card it won't matter, but if you've installed apps to it, you'll have to re-install them for them to work properly.
All your contacts should be backed up to outlook using active sync before you upgrade, then just dock the XDA with upgraded ROM and all your contacts should be restored from your PC.
....... but I thought the backup/restore function within activesync (and which takes about an hour first time you use it) backed up all system files and program apps that you had installed, so that it's relatively painless after a hard reset and restore.
..... now I am confused :-(

alright clever cloggs, I haven't experimented with that to be honest. the question is - what's so special about a second hard reset? why can't it just be ok the first time
and incidentally - if you were confused you should have used :? -
I genuinely am confused .... and you ain't necessarily wrong even if you haven't tried the restore via activesync. Other posters on other forums and various faqs seem to indicate that whilst you can get the contacts, appointments etc to restore after the ROM upgrade, you then have to re-install each program application manually. Or rather just the apps you've bought or downloaded rather than the ones that are inbuilt.
If true, it seems a complete pain, and I think I will just download the Bluetooth toolkit rather than the ROM upgrade.
..... what's the emoticon for 'decisive'?

Mike
Hi guys
I've been facing since I bought my HTC Athena irregular freeze everyday.
I upgraded the Device to WM6 the next day I received it, it went very soomth with my applications installed.
However, the freeze appear very randomly, it could be while launching a new program, or playing backgammon, sometimes after device wake up, also once when received an SMS.
A very weird behavior also, is that sometimes I need to soft-reset 3/4 times in a row to get passed the HTC and the Windows Mobile splash screen.
For info, the soft-reset is not necessarly done after a freeze ....
I decided to start this new topic in order to see if other people are facing same symptoms on their Athena, and to share our experience together.
Cheers
Hope you run Oli's SPL Unlocker/patcher...

Sorry no such problems here, but did you run Olipro's SPL patcher/Unlocker before flashing thee ROM? I know tupsindin released a few WM6 ROMs a while ago that could be flashed without CID unlocking your X7500, but Olipro's Unlocker will make your device unbrickable.
If you have already done this, try flashing the new WM6 Dopod U1000 ROM seems very stable to me with no issues so far and slightly snappier than the other WM6 ROMs.
Thks mackaby for your reply
I did unlock it via the UK website I found on XDA forum, sorry but can't remember the name (soemthing IMEI), so I did that then flashed with the WM6 ROM ver 2.20.405.1
Im doing some more testing
what is really annoying is that I need to do 4/5 soft reset very ofently in order to pass by the HTC/Windows Mobile splash screen
I just bought my HTC Advantage X7500 with WM6 already installed and I have lock up issues if I have auto shutoff enabled it will not start backup after a auto shut off I keep using the reset to get it back up. When it is up I just disabled the auto shut off and now have no problems.
Im not having same pb as you, but I saw on one thread on XDA forums that people having that problem fixed it by assigning a the turn on/off device to a hardware button. and apparently it fixed their problem.
Try that and it must fix it for you

Hi,
I have encountered in the past this problem, and I observed that it was happening after I installed HTC X-Button v1.5, and it was even worse after HTC X-Button v1.51.
Later on, a new version was published, and it works flawlessly since. The exact file is HTC X-Button v1.51 build 30229.
Hope you have same issue. Good luck,
Zohar
Thks zoharbl for you reply
I don't have HTC x-button
For now, I found an alternative with Running Pocket Hack Master at 663 Mhz, and I modified the sequence for startup processes using SKTools putting Pocket Hack Master as #1 in the order, Wisbar Advance 3 as #2, SPB Diary as the last one and Norton Antivirus just before the last one.
I noticed that SPB Diary is slowing down a bit my device, and specially after a reset, this is because I created custom tab adding plugins inside this tab such Phone Alarm, SPB Weather and Resco Explorer Plugin ...
I tried many config, and found out this one works the best for me, the device is resetting with less then 30 sec without any hanging anymore.

Really interesting comment. I have original WM5 configured UK Ameo and have always experienced random crashes. After reading this, I looked again at my settings and found the X-button configured - I don't need it as I use the same functionality from Wisbar. Turned it off and it hasn't crashed since.

Hi there BigDede
Don't know if this will help...
Even since before I have upgraded to WM6 I have had problems similar to yours. At the time I had WA3 and WAD installed as well as Spb Weather, Spb Diary and certain parts of Pocketplus. I did a trail and removed all software from Spb and Wisbar and everything worked perfectly. In the meantime I have now only added Spb Mobile Suite and use iLauncher on my today screen together with the plugin from Resco Explorer - no more problems!
It seems to me that some of the above software have compatibilty issues with the U1000/Athena/Ameo (whether wm2005 or wm6 makes a difference I don't know).
Cheers
Thks Superdawie for your reply, you are right, I was suspecting Wisbar, SPB Diary abd phoneAlarm to be the origin of my problems.
But as I said previously, I found a workaround to make the Athena runs ok by playing with the order of startup programs. It's been more then one week without any freeze

Same for me, working well on WM6 since I turned X-Button 1.51 off.
In WM5 I had this problem all the time as WM5 totally sucks!
In WM6 I only experienced this problem when programs "collided" due to timing issues as you've found out. By changing the load order or timing of some applications (some programs have it built right in like SmallMenu....it's resolved all of my lock up issues, etc. Most of the problems can be resolved by playing around with the software you have loaded, as you found out. Not sure if it's because of a crappy OS or because of crappy coding by the developers of the software we're installing...maybe both.
I searched and couldn't find anything but then again I'm horrible at searching unless it has something to do with pictures
Anyway I'm running DCD's 3.0.1 rom and am usually floating right around 10mb of free ram. Every time I try to run more than one program at a time the second program ends up closing the first program.
My question is is there anyway to get rid of this or change it, or is the only thing to do is go back to WM 6.0?
TIA for any help

How much memory do you have free after a soft reset? I typically have 19-20 megs free after a soft reset. I've got quite a few apps installed and a few are probably running in the background. Voice command, SPB Mobile shell, SPB Phone suite and I'm sure a few others are all running in the background. After a day of light use (a few calls, a few texts and about 30 minutes of Opera Mini) I have 15-16 megs free with no apps open.
I typically do a soft reset every few days and that seems to help a lot. It sounds like you may have an app or plugin that has a memory leak if you only have 10 megs free on average, that is pretty low.
Yeha it did seem to be pretty low since I've been using DCD's rom's for a couple months now. I just figured it was because of 6.1 because of it being similar on the last 3 roms I have loaded from DCD.
It's not running exceptionally slow or anything but I can only have one program open at a time which gets old real quick.
Usually after a soft reset I'm sitting at about 13-14 mb free and after running a few programs and using oxios memory I'm sittign around 9-10, which is most likely the reason for only 1 program running at a time.
I am using spb mobile shell and phone suite wisbar advanced 2 and a couple of other programs on startup.
If I did have a memory leak is the only way to find it is by doing a hard reset and reinstalling?
Thanks
I'm not sure what all your are running, but right now after a soft reset I have 24 megs free, I'm running HTC Home with customized graphics... after using my phone at a moderate level I have 20-21 meg free.... Something is not right if you have only 13-14 free ....
EDIT: Do me a favor and list ALL items you clicked on in Buildos please, maybe I or someone else can identify an OEM that has a mem leak, also, take a screen shot of all services running on your phone.... post it too....
I get problem with programs closing after using oxios memory
I'm working on getting the screenshots will most likely be tomorrow around 4cst when I finally post because of work I need to sleep now lol, 4am comes around real fast.....
One question though when you have that much ram available are you able to run more than one program at a time without it closing another?
After reading what NotLutzik posted I did a soft reset because I couldnt get spb screenshot to stay on while I opened task manager to take a screen shot. After the soft reset I can get it to stay on so maybe oxios is either shutting something down that it shouldnt or it's messing up memory management???
Just the way oxios works with cache!
Iam back to wm6 and no any ram reclaim programs!
Spb backup everynight with soft reset after.
About 17-18mb end of the day ,22mb at first load.
Programs running:
Messaging (i use that lot )
Wktask
Phone alarm
sSpb dairy and Spb weather
New menu

Hey bud - I can run IE, HTC Home with custom graphics, Quick Menu, contacts open, comm manager open(skinned with vista) and I get down to around 14-15 megs, if I close them all i go back up to 22....
Anyways when u low on memory windows will ask u what programs to close....some program messing up your cache!
Every time I try and run the people application it force closes. This means trying to call some one I not got in my recent contacts is impossible. Anyone else had this issue? Cheers
This seems to be fixed by killing all processes in a task manager. Which seems off as a restart did not help.
I had the same problem when I first copied my contacts across to the new HTC Hero using Funambol. After some miserable hours with the new machine I decided that it was some corruption in the contact data causing the problem. So I did a factory reset to get rid of them again and it was fine again.
Then I read the manual and discovered HTC Sync this copied the same contacts across direct from Outlook and I have never seen the problem again - 1 month happy Hero using since then.
Hi everyone. It's been two days since the process com.google.process.gapps has started crashing, "stopping unexpectedly" whenever i use the browser on my tab.
Reading the error report, it seems (not 100% sure about that) this is somehow related to the bookmarks sync with Chrome, but i can't find a way to disable this.
Has anyone exprerienced the same issue? Any known solution? Thanks
Go to settings > accounts and sync, click on your account then uncheck everything, then manually sync everything one by one to see what is causing the error.
Then go to manage apps and clear the cache of all the problem apps and re-sync them once you're done. It might take a few tries but it should take care of that error.
I'll try that as soon as possible, thanks!
browser sync was causing this for me
I believe that bookmarks sync no long works with galaxy tab. Google changed something on their end that should have worked fine(it still works on the xoom, transformer, etc.) but since samsung changed a bunch of stuff for no apparent reason, it is now broken. samsung is so stupid sometimes..
So you're basically suggesting that bookmarks sync should stay off to avoid problems like that?
well I don't really know. I never used bookmark sync in the first place. I'm just going by what is said in this article.
http://www.zdnet.com/blog/perlow/br...gle-or-the-oems/17840?tag=mantle_skin;content
It turns out that at some point Google started making some changes to the backend systems that handle Google’s user account data. There’s nothing wrong with them doing this; it happens all the time. In fact, no other Android 3.1 tablets had any issues at all with the changes, and their bookmark sync continued to work without a blip on the radar.
Not Samsung, however... I did some digging around the internet, and it’s become somewhat well-known amongst Android developers that Samsung actually modifies core source code in the Android operating system that handles communicating with Google’s backend data services.

Well, that's a pity. I had just started to think it was a useful tool to keep track of unread web pages between work, home and outside...
Let's hope Samsung somehow fixes that.
PS: disabling bookmarks sync actually stops the process from crashing, I think I've solved (if we could really say so...) the issue. Thanks to all!
Thanks, disabling auto sync for browser has stopped the error. Samsung developers need to fix this - I can't auto sync my gmail
What am I missing here?
Ok be prepared, this post may be rather long winded however I will try my best to prevent that. I have a Tmobile G2x I purchased on launch date. Ive not attempted to Root, change roms, or anything of the sort. (as much as I always wanted to, I always felt that my skills were not good enough to attempt these ideas no matter how easy they may seem. I just did not want to be the cause of screwing up my phone that I paid dearly for)
So I have a friend who claims to be the master (of disaster so it turns out) of rooting androids and such. He stops by my house just to hang out and eventualy convinces me to let him root my phone and install CM7. Within a few minutes the phone was rooted (super1click) and was running CM7 release candidate. (I really dont know what all these things truly are but I drilled him for answers once he jacked up my phone and left me with a half-bricked phone) So he installed Rom manager and convinced me to upgrade to the premium version via marketplace so I did. He was then showing me how easy it was to flash new roms at the touch of a few buttons. He put on some other rom which looked like CM7 but claimed to have extra tweaks. It worked fine. A few minutes later he put on some Faux Rom which gave a boot up screen like my old Nexus One did. (Multicolored X) It seemed to work fine as well. Then he said lets check out the nightly CM7 Rom so he put it on. (however I dont think it ever actually put CM7 back on.-still on Faux?) Thats when things got crazy.
Now I get the com.google.process.gapps force close message all the time. He tried to fix it for 4 hours and finally gave up. Here is what I know he/we tried: After searching the internet for hours we tried everyone elses ideas. Clearing calenders cashes, un syncing, etc. We did about 40 factory resets. We have tried to install my backup (which was from BEFORE he even touched my phone) and upon holding both volume rockers and plugging in USB (no battery installed) and it still does nothing. Windows recognizes device but phone screen stays black. Tried Debug mode while doing this as well. If we hold the volume down button and power the little install bar comes on the screen and it does its thing (whatever that is) and goes right back to the way it was. I keep getting the gapps message all the time. After factory reset I cant even type in my gmail address to start the initial setup of the phone. The force close keeps cutting me off. If I type fast, I can sync the account but I cant use market whatsoever. Tried installing Rom manager to re-flash but just sticks at starting download and gapps pops up again.
My son is starting school tomorrow and he has a medical condition. I NEED this phone to communicate with the school nurse via emails and such. As of now I can only text, call, or surf web all while dodging force closes. If ANYONE out there can please help me get my phone back to normal Id greatly appreciate it. Im sure its something easy but as I said before, Im not good at this thing and thats why I never attempted it myself. Your welcome to submit answers here or PM me your phone # if you want to walk me through it on the phone. (I have a landline phone to talk to you on) Thanks in advance for everyones time and Im sorry this ended up being so long.
Hello,
Based on your post, I would suggest that you search your phone's development forum on XDA for a compatable clockwork recovery mod which will install a custom recovery on your phone. The thread will give you instructions on how to do so and how to enter recovery mode.
You can then enter the 'Backup and Restore' part of the recovery and restore your backup manually without using ROM manager. If this doesn't work, I would suggest that you then download the ROM of your choice and install it from the clockwork recovery. Make sure you clear user data and wipe the cache before you install.
Any fix yet? This is really annoying me as I rely on my bookmarks tremendously.
try this:
Open stock browser and under settings choose clear cache and deletehistory
