Does anyone tried to repaint the scratches and chips on the edge of Dell Streak 5? I have scratches and chips on the edge of my Dell streak and i was planning to repaint it to remove those scratches. Any idea on how to do such. Thanks in advance. Any help is highly appreciated.
I have a red streak got it without a case n lost the pouch early , so ive used it for a year without any case (finally got one) and its easily scratched especially at its corners (not a small device) .
Well my solution is nail lacquer, the thing that girls paint on their nails !! Whitch has number 60 on the bottle ( the degree of its depth maybe) so if ur Streak is red..go for the girl thing :O !! That suited me :-D !!

I used this for some older phones, i plan to apply this on my laptop and my Streak, i just need to find a provider, you can find this Carbon Fiber-like sticker in car-tuning shops or places like that. Or a fast search on eBay or online shops would do the trick.
The whole process can be painful, but it's a small price to pay for a good result, it can be difficult as there are many edges and you need to cut precisely, but here's an advice, use a hair dryer or something to make the material easy to stretch.
Also, you will need to make this texture even for the buttons, but this depends of the thickness of the material.
I'l make a thread if i will get my hands on some textured carbon, and there i will make a guide with the whole process, but only if i get some of this and if i decide to do this, is painful as hell, there are many things you must have in mind... But either way, after all this, the phone will look gorgeus, and will feel very nice in hand.

Alright, gang - here's the million-dollar question: has anyone come up with a way to make the TrueSmart *truly* waterproof? I'm not talking about dipping the unit into a still tank of water. I'm talking about white-water rapids, Niagara Falls, in-the-jet-tub-naked-with-your-sweetie water-invasion proof.
I'm not asking for pie-in-the-sky ideas. I'm asking for folks that have experience with making devices impervious to the elements. The way I see it (not having seen the device, but checking out lots and lots of photos) there are basically two strategies:
1) replace the gasket with something more resilient/robust, or
2) potting the electronic assembly with epoxy to seal the electronics that *might* fail
I've done some testing of electronic components for resistance to contaminants that have force/velocity behind them. The primary test was to use mineral spirits - and spray the enclosed unit under a fully submerged bath. Then we'd fully dry the exterior of the unit and then open it to see if any mineral spirits had leaked in. As some of you may know, mineral spirits are non-conductive, so the possibility of the unit failing due to invasion of the liquid is relatively minimal. (contaminants in the liquid notwithstanding). There are other considerations such as the relative viscosity/covalence of the material relative to water - but it was close enough for our purposes at the time.
So - are there any intrepid souls out there who are willing to try different water-proofing strategies and test it using a method like this? Is there another relatively safe method that could be used to validate an 'aftermarket' approach to truly waterproofing the TrueSmart?
I'm all ears.

That was *somewhat* as I feared. I was wondering if there was a material that could be used to 'fill seal' the gasket area and form a lip/bulge as it cured out to protect the seam. Man, that really disappoints me. But between the delivery delay and the advent of the latest training watches from Garmin and Polar I might be left with my original decision, which is to simply sell the unit and buy one of the suited-to-purpose products.
I am seriously considering this as an option if/when mine arrives.

Hmmm... I honestly wonder how it will do with water under pressure hitting a seam on-axis. (shower, diving, backstroke)
It might eat the TrueSmart's "Sapphire Glass" coating.

I want to open my Nexus 6P in the name of science
I´ve managed to open other devices before but this Nexus 6P somehow scares the living cr*p out of me when it comes to the visor glass :crying:
There is barely any gap between the glass and the Aluminum back and even a razor blade is barely thin enough to pass through.
I tried to heat the glass with a hairdryer and to carefully fit a razor blade between the glass and the case. I´m afraid that the thin razor blade cannot create a powerful lever and even if, this might cause the glass to burst.
Now I really wanted to open this device since I don´t care about the warranty anyway and use some nice 17W/mK thermal pads inside.
By any chance, did any of you already open this device before and is there a secret strategy maybe ?
Well even if the glass visor breaks... There is one available for cheap on eBay
The problem with the cheap glass is that a) I might have to wait for several weeks for it. If I only partially damage the glass while still maintaining the area for the camera, it would not be that bad. But what if the glass cracks this area too ? This is why I´d rather prefer to remove the visor glass in one single piece

I watched a strip down video of this phone a while back.....it did not look pretty. The glass visor on the back I believe was removed with a razor blade and if I remember correctly it did not crack. I would use a heat gun and heat the area to soften any glue before trying to pry it off.
In all honesty though, this device was not made to be stripped apart and put back together. I just don't see being able to strip the device and put it back together without leaving some sort of evidence that it had been taken apart lol.
This is the best teardown video I found. Using pieces of a soda can was a great idea and the phone looked intact around the glass and lower piece areas. Glass was in one piece as well. It's in my YT favourites in case I ever need it *knocks on wood*
PS: If you end up using this method (or any other), please let us know how it went.

Well, at least I had the heart to try it out I don´t have a heat gun and I guess it´s next to impossible to soften the glue without one. A regular hair dryer is too weak. I also tried to make some levers out of soda can parts but it´s useless if you cannot apply enough heat in order to soften the glue.
Maybe it´s possible if you wait for hours for the device to heat up with a hair dryer but you also damage the whole device because of the way you spread the heat.
I might try again later if I get a heat gun. This phone is really tough to open. Did anyone else already manage to open this device without some special equipment ?
@Gorgtech, I had to open my nexus 5 to replace the screen/digitizer. I purchased an $8.00 cell phone/small electronics toolkit from Walmart. It has magnetized screw drivers, plastic pry tools and a suction cup. I highly recommend it!
Thanks for the hint, I have some various tools which are OK for most repairs but only lack a heat gun. I´ve decided to get one in the end because it´s not as expensive as I thought before. You're struggles are over! I have been looking for the best screen protector for edge devices and I had to tell everyone. No more touch sensitivity issues, no pressing harder, no more bouncing screen, and no more popping off screen protectors. The Whitestone Dome Glass Screen protector is the best! I made an install tutorial because the worst part is installing it. It's complicated, but watch my video for tips and tricks and you will be an expert in no time:

Warning: As seen in the video at the 10:26 mark it is very important as a beginner that you make sure the surface is level (Use a physical bubble level and have business cards nearby) and leave the alignment bars (Plastic L Shapes) on during the curing process with the UV light, otherwise the screen protector may slide off of the phone. I was doing this for a friend at his house with the table he had, therefor as you saw at the 10:26 mark it began to slide away. Me doing so many installations I was use to this sort of thing happening, and quickly corrected the issue. I find the alignment bars to get in my way when moving the screen to the most case friendly position. However when I started out I did use these alignment bars, think of them as training wheels. Just be sure when you manually align the screen protector that the alignment bars are not lifting out of their 3 bumps and that they are not lifting your screen. Make sure your surface is level otherwise the adhesive could pour over the edges of the phone. Business cards help immensely, along with not working on installation in the middle of a 2 piece table.

Before I continue please keep the "It's too expensive" posts out of here. Other glass screen protectors, Otterbox, Zagg, ect are the same price. You are paying $45 to protect a $800+ phone. Insurance is a $200 deductible. So it's not expensive compared to paying a deductible. You also get an added bonus... The UV light can be used by women or given to women as a gift to dry their nails. Oh you're a guy and have no use for it? Ever had a car windshield chip?
You can get a repair kit and use the UV light to dry the resin, ever paint? UV light to dry the paint, UV light to dry glue, UV light to tan your wedding ring finger... Just kidding don't do that last one. Anyway now that I got that out of the way I came from a S7 Edge and my struggles to find the perfect screen protector were very difficult. I am extremely OCD with my phones and worried so much about cracking the screen. I used the Otterbox Defender after trying screen protector, after screen protector, and after getting frustrated with the touch screen sensitivity issues with the Otterbox Defender due to the built in plastic screen protector and dealing with dirt and easy scratches, I went back to my Note 4. Then the S8 came out and I again attempted to go to an edge phone, and after purchasing the Whitestone screen protector I will say it's made the phone feel just like I never had a screen protector at all. I no longer have a screen protector that for some silly reason only had glue around the edges which made the protector springy/bouncy on every touch. Not to mention that most times the protector would pop off due to lack of glue. This isn't a problem with the Whitestone due to the fully adhesive protector. There's no touch screen sensitivity issues and it feels like I am touching a naked screen. Plus my edge features actually work.

Install done.....successful! The biggest part is applying the epoxy, it is very thin, almost like water. Slowly loosening the cap on the epoxy tube and leveling the puddle is crucial to success. So do it slowly and use cards to level the puddle before releasing the remainder of the ep oxy. Then make sure it flows to the entire screen and you are golden. This video with tips is golden.

Your video was exceptional, the tips and tricks you covered were very clear and precise. We were pleasantly surprised. As you mentioned in the video, we have made modifications to our installing procedure and the tools as well since the initial launch. The only thing we would like to point out is that you should NOT remove the align bars (the plastic things) before curing the adhesive. Experienced people such as yourself will have no problem manually aligning the glass, but some people may panic or completely butcher the installation if they see the glass slipping away. Also, if the glass moves towards the speaker, the adhesive may flow into the speaker or buttons (if applicable). It will not damage or break the device, but it could result in discomfort while using the device.

Wow I can say I am pleasantly surprised. I didn't think that I would catch the attention of Whitestone themselves. Absolutely brilliant idea with the screen protector I must say! I really appreciate the positive feedback and will make note of your feedback in the topic and video! I do typically remove the alignment bars pre-cure as they get in my way for aligning below the camera. They tend to lift up and sometimes lift the screen protector up while I adjust towards the edge of the camera. My video is the perfect example of making sure you have a level surface and I will make a note in the video and in this topic that newer purchasers of Whitestone will want to have a physical bubble level nearby to complete the task or potentially have level issues as shown in the video or to be sure and keep the alignment bars installed and make sure to keep an eye on the edges for any possible lifting.

Will there be replacement screen sets be available in the future? So glass, loca glue, alcohol pads and microfiber cloth? Since the curing light and rigg are re-useable it could means easy replacement at much lower cost.

Since the replacement kit is only 5$ cheaper than a new kit (on amazon) it might be easier to buy a complete kit and sell the uv light to a woman who wants to use it for her nails.
The replacement kit should not cost more than about 10$, imho

To anyone wanting to know the Mophie S8 and S8+ cases work great with this screen protector! I'll make a review video soon for it. The top of the case separates and you slide your phone in (no more plopping it in and out of a case hoping it doesn't touch the screen protector) then you slide the top down and it fits perfect. It's a 3300 MAH battery pack and from 25% with the phone on, it got me to 90% while I was using the phone. It also feels like it matches with the curvature of the phone. I recommend trying it out in store, as it is a bit heavier, but no where near as heavy as a ZeroLemon 10,000 MAH battery I had for the Note 4. Attached are some screenshots with the case and screen protector. Oh the speaker redirect to front is really nice too!

I've bought one, but I mixed two align bars and now I don't know which align bar is for top and which is for the bottom. They are a little different. as you can see in pictures one has a small sticker attached to it at 45 degree angle while in the other one it is attached straight.
can anyone help to place these correctly?
If fitting this goes horribly wrong, or if the protector gets damaged in an accident later, how easy is it to remove it again after the glue has cured and will any residue be left on the screen?

It does seem to stick very well to your phone so that's good, I hate the usual (crappy) tempered glass protectors that only have glue on the sides... 1 "wrong" case and *pop* there it goes :/

I want to show you how I improvised my oleophobic coating. It's a short tutorial and I hope you'll able to purchase the product.
Disclaimer: This is NOT sponsored, the product I post below is just a thing I tried out and I'm very happy with it.
I'm using it for 3 months and I needed to renew it yesterday for the first time.
The product I mean is:
ABACUS Fleet Magic
I got it from a friend for my cars windows.
How to do it on your phone:
- Take three soft paper towels or microfiber cloths.
- Clean the display, I prefer a alcohol containing glass cleaner - alcohol like spiritus do it as well, something without alcohol is not really good.
- Put the Fleet Magic fluid on your display, just one or two drops will do it.
- Polish it with the first towel or cloth.
- You'll see a film on your display, this is good!
- Do it again.
- Make the second towel or cloth wet with pure clean water and polish the display again.
- You'll see that the film and stripe are gone.
- Dry it with a new towel or cloth.
- Redo every 2 or 3 months - or more often if you need.
I tested it also on my touchscreen laptop, a Lenovo Yoga 710 14", and it's awesome.
I attached a pic of a water droplet on my laptop and the bottle of Fleet Magic.

It is not clear if the oleophobic coating is meant to be a fingerprint repellent when applied on the phone or something else. I too have a P10 and a Yoga 710 but it is the mediapad M5 that has a very bad fingerprint problem. Btw there are a few products to choose from that can do the same job on a car's windscreen
