Please help with this small thing, its driving me insane!
When i'm out and about i use my xda to create new appointments, most of my appointments are recurring ones, e.g. 'night out' or 'driving lesson'.
How do i edit the set list of subjects for a new appointment? the location field seems to mostly remember my locations, but the subject field is CRAP.
I can't find any option to edit the selection for a subject, is there any program or registry hack to achieve this.

I don't want to use another calendar program. The standard one is adequate apart from this small annoyance. It's been a while but I'm sure my Palm allowed me to do this about 5 years ago!
yeah i agree pocket informant is overpowered to the point of being bonkers
i want to remember when i'm next going out, not assign an icon to it, sort it, filter it, group it, negotiate world peace, remotely connect to yahoo to establish my friends availability, and do a quick search on carling available for the area.
odds are i've been drinking and just want to easily put in some quick recurring event. sure my treo used to do it.
trying a smartphone at the moment, far better for pub situations

I've been looking at the various reviews of the Hero, but I can only see that it syncs Calender, Email and Contacts with MS Exchange.
Is this true? Does it have any way of syncing Tasks: At the moment I use Plan Plus and PI8 on my WM device, and I'd absolutely need to have a good task list?

I don't use tasks myself, but worth a look through the apps on the Market, which can be viewed on this site http://www.cyrket.com/
I'm sure somneone else may have more idea, although its very early for the stuff to be Hero specific as handsets are only just hitting the consumers... So worth asking or searching in the Magic / Sapphire forums as that has closest version of Android OS on it...

Astrid does look pretty good. Maybe not as advanced as some of the WM applications, but good and simple. Hurrah!

Is anyone having the same problem as me? I've had my Hero for a few days and in general I'm happy with it, but I can't get HTC Sync to work properly. I'm using Outlook 2007 on Vista, and when I connect the sync works but leaves me with almost as many "Unknown" entries as properly synced ones. So far I haven't been able to identify any common element in the "Unknown" entries, and I'm stuck.
I've noticed posts that suggect syncing with a gmail account and then syncing this with the phone, but I'd prefer to keep my contacts in my own computer environment. Can anyone help, or perhaps suggest a different program? I realise it's early days for the Hero, but my phone is awkward to use at the moment.

I've answered my own question. I hadn't noticed that all the "Unknowns" were entries that were companies and businesses that I'd entered into the "Company" field in Outlook. I've just manually moved all these names to the "Full Name" field, and the sync works. It's not really satisfactory because it's not the way I like to use Outlook, but it'll do until a fix or a better program is developed. I have two company names that begin with a number, and these don't sync, not yet anyway. I'll have to find another work-around.
It's a shame that such a great piece of hardware is let down by such sloppy programming, but I recall that it took Microsoft a long time to sort out Activesync.
I hope this helps anyone in a similar position.
I have the same problem and still can't fix it.
I just want Google to fix that faster because it's the only thing I don't like in Hero.
I use the "First Name" field only in Outlook with nothing in the "Company" field, and I file as "First name" "Last name", i.e. John North, not North, John. When you click on "Full name" in the "New Contact" sheet you should only have one entry, First & Last Name in the "First Name" field. That's all I do. It's unsatisfactory from my point of view, and I hoping that there will be an update to fix it, or a better program produced.
I feel the same as you - there's little to fault the phone, but issues like this just knock the edge off the enjoyment of a new piece of equipment. I would also like a DivX player because I've got many hours of recorded TV which I've already converted to DivX which I used to watch when I had Windows Mobile.
It's relatively early days for the Android & Hero so I'm hoping things will improve.

Don't need to sync with google or anything like this. I just would love to be able to see a calendar like one of those paper wall calendars and be able to write notes on it with pen, draw, cross days etc. The usual stuff that people do with wall calendars. Ability to add reminders would be nice to have, but not super important.
I wonder if something like this already exists. If it doesn't, I think it will be a great idea for a creator of Quill. What do you think?

A desk calendar style app that allowed this would be super cool. I'd love to see it myself.
Apparently the note has something like this. It would just have to be ported.

I checked it out, but S planner is more like usual calendar app. It just works with note app to recognize the text (if it can) and import event into planner.
What would be cool to have is a month/week overview, where you could just tap on a day and make the entry in the calendar in a quill style. Just think of a paper calendar. Sometimes it is just nice and comfy to be able to draw and write a simple stuff in there. You could cross the days when you been sober, put smiley faces when you had sex, add handwritten notes to the past and future evens. At the end of the week/month you could take a quick overview and remember how you spent your time or do a report

Really good ideas, but for someone who uses their Google calendar, a totally new app like this would require me to switch entirely ...at which point, I'd likely have to use only my tablet for a calendar.
A tangentially related idea I had for this quill developper was a widget that you could place on your desktop and that could be scribbled on. That's a little like what you're asking.

You're right. An app like this will be for tablet only and will not have sync with google calendar (but maybe could be saved to evernote). If you're a busy person and everyday is booked, then usual calendar app is a lifesaver. In my mind though one shoudn't replace the other. Google calendar great to keep your appointments, birthdays and important dates and is accessible from any device. Notes can be entered there, but they sort of blend in the whole thing and they are not very natural. I find notebook is a lot easier to follow if you need to write and find something worth noting that happened one day or another. For example you have your appointment tracked in google calendar, it will remind you that you need to be there, you will go and meet people. Notes from the meeting are better kept is a separate notebook along with any sketches or anything like this, rather than google calendar. I could keep and organize those notes in several quill notebooks, but chronological order is lost, can't really enter an info, specific to a future or a past date, an overview for weekly/monthly report is not so simple.
Maybe it is better not to think of it as a calendar replacement, but rather a calendar book or a planner. Quill (or other note apps that I found so far) just don't have organization of a calendar (planner) and google calendar doesn't have functionality of a good notebook.

That's not what I had in mind at all. There is already a note app with a widget. It is a standard HTC note app. As a matte of fact it is the only widget that I have on my Flyer's desktop. It is not as good for writing notes as Quill, but it works and is easy to keep track of important information right on the android desktop. Evernote sync gives me ability to put that same important note on the desktop of my PC - works great as a sticky. I also use Color note on a phone, for those important stickies on a go (too bad there is no sync there)
I use both Quill and HTC notes. HTC notes are great for important stuff that I need to keep track of. Quill has replaced a general notebook for me and helped me to get rid of paper clutter. I love my Flyer. That's the first tablet that helped me to organize my messy desk.
i've only had my flyer for a couple of weeks but i agree that this is a brilliant idea.
it would be nice to scribble things in on certain dates and times.
i wish someone takes this idea up and runs with it
I am currently starting to develop for my flyer. At the moment doing a little paint app with pen support which behaves like a pencil.
From what I hear, you just want a plain paper based calendar and than use notifications etc.? So it could have a link to the normal calendar for those features. Should not a biggie. Will think abou that.

Im loving my Titan, especially the calendar sync with windows live, google etc.
I run a Driving School and use the calendar to set up appointments with my clients, add them as attendees and save. However, when the email is sent to the attendee to accept the details of time and location are sometimes wrong, even if I leave the location blank.
Its led to a few missed appointments. Can anyone test this feature and see if its a common problem.
also, is there a way to change the "Im running late" feature to include a text message, rather than relying on people checking their emails?

Not exactly clear what you mean. But calender events are sensitive to timezones. Make sure all pcs and phones involved have the accurate timezone settings.

What I mean is, I arrange an appointment with one of my clients and set it up on my phone. I generally don't add a location, as it is usually at their house, unless we have arranged a different place, then i will include that.
I then use the "add someone" button, select the persons email address to send the calendar .ics file for them to accept.
I have had reports from some of my clients who, when they open the file has had different times than i had originally set up.
Like I said, it is related to the time zone settings. Most ppl don't care to set their PC's time zone (default is PST/PDT). And if you're in a different time zone than that, the time will be different for you and your client. Let's say if you setup a meeting at 4pm EST and your client is setup(or rather didn't care to setup) to use PST on their PC. That meeting will show up as 1pm PST on their side. Since they didn't setup the correct time zone but rather adjusted the clock, they will see the meeting is at 1pm instead of 4pm you intended.
The bottom line is unless you can be sure both you and your clients all have setup time zone correctly, using this kind of meeting invites are prone to cause problems.

I'm looking for a calendar app with a feature that's rather low-tech, yet surprisingly rare: I'm looking to add notes/comments/memos to a certain day (rather than event). Just like on a physical calendar one can mark a day with "watered plants" or "opened new pack of...", I would like to do the same on a calendar app, without it being associated with a particular event or meeting. I don't want to use events because they have a lot of fields I don't need to fill (like time and duration), using all day events interrupts my actual scheduling and marking the calendar is usually done retroactively (some apps don't allow scheduling past events).
Can anyone think of a competent and capable app with this feature, or at least suggest search terms?
