I've been looking at the various reviews of the Hero, but I can only see that it syncs Calender, Email and Contacts with MS Exchange.
Is this true? Does it have any way of syncing Tasks: At the moment I use Plan Plus and PI8 on my WM device, and I'd absolutely need to have a good task list?
Any answers? Thank You!
I don't use tasks myself, but worth a look through the apps on the Market, which can be viewed on this site http://www.cyrket.com/
I'm sure somneone else may have more idea, although its very early for the stuff to be Hero specific as handsets are only just hitting the consumers... So worth asking or searching in the Magic / Sapphire forums as that has closest version of Android OS on it...

Astrid does look pretty good. Maybe not as advanced as some of the WM applications, but good and simple. Hurrah!

Please help with this small thing, its driving me insane!
When i'm out and about i use my xda to create new appointments, most of my appointments are recurring ones, e.g. 'night out' or 'driving lesson'.
How do i edit the set list of subjects for a new appointment? the location field seems to mostly remember my locations, but the subject field is CRAP.
I can't find any option to edit the selection for a subject, is there any program or registry hack to achieve this.

I don't want to use another calendar program. The standard one is adequate apart from this small annoyance. It's been a while but I'm sure my Palm allowed me to do this about 5 years ago!
yeah i agree pocket informant is overpowered to the point of being bonkers
i want to remember when i'm next going out, not assign an icon to it, sort it, filter it, group it, negotiate world peace, remotely connect to yahoo to establish my friends availability, and do a quick search on carling available for the area.
odds are i've been drinking and just want to easily put in some quick recurring event. sure my treo used to do it.

My situation cannot be all that unique, but, I cannot seem to find the right solution that MUST be out there.
I am a long time Sidekick users. I like the sidekick but would like a bit more power in the device and be able to run other apps. On the advice of a friend (who also used to own a sidekick) I got an XDA (T-Mobile MDA specifically) on ebay, but, I am giving up one HUGE thing, I think... The Sidekick automatically syncs with the Desktop website, so all my notes, contact info, addressbook, to-do list is on the web. With the XDA the info will be on my desktop at home in Outlook.
Why is this a problem? Because I ->CANNOT<- carry a cell phone into my work site but I do have internet access. This gave me most of my Sidekicks functionality (except for making calls) from my desk at work. Could look up contacts, etc. It also gave me this access from any location in the world as long as I had internet access (even if that location didn't have GPRS, my power on the Sidekick died, whatever).
Is there a website that will stay sync'd with my outlook, something I can add to my website (PHP + MySql), or I can run a website from my desktop machine (PHP, Java, MySql, whatever I can install anything). I am not chomping at the bit to install Exchange with Outlook Web Access on my machine at home, though... WAY too much work I think.
Any suggestions would be great. The best I have found is www.freeoffice.de, but, my ability to speak German is somewhat limited. Yahoo apparently used to offer an intellisync ability, but, alas now it is an export or export via CSV it appears. I found another service that seems to primarily be a fax/voicemail service at like $3/month for this. I guess if they work great I could pony up that, but... I don't really need fax/voicemail service.
I don't really need this to support email, I can get my email on the web from elsewhere. Primarily all the other PDA functions.
Any help greatly appreciated.

I use the Yahoo Intellisync which works well directly with Outlook data, no converting or anything, just run the Intellisync program and all the data from Outlook is available on a webpage.
Notepad, Calender, Address Book and ToDo List are all synced.
I don't know if they charge for the service as I get it as part of my Internet package with BTYahoo - this is UK based, but I suppose it is available everywhere.
I Don't think Yahoo Still Offers...
When I looked before I couldn't find the Yahoo sync option, but, now I see it. Thanks for making me look again. This should do nicely, I hope.
What I'm looking for are:
- Ability to have more than 5 email accounts.
- Ability to create mailing list, or a group of email accounts.
- Still have push mail capability, still able to display mail correctly.
Alternatively, is there an add-on to the standard outlook email application that would give us the mailing list capability?
I tried searching the net, but have not come across anything yet. Does anyone know of a solution?

As I understand it FlexMail uses a different method of pushing (IMAP IDLE rather than Direct Push).

If it has the feature that I look for, the method of pushing does not matter to me I guess.

I don't see the mailing list feature any where within flexmail. Or may be it is a well hidden feature. How do I create a mailing list containing a group of email accounts, so that I need not compile this each time I need to send mail to a group of people?
Flexmail is da ****... It also handles SMS's.. All messages/mail in 1 App..

It's a lovely application, but it does not seem to have the ability to create mailing list. Or have I overlooked something?
Weird Software
If you have multiple mail ids associated to a contact, Flexmail 2007 doesn't allow you to select the mail id, it always select the primary id.

The other way to do this is via server... I guess Flexmail did that to prevent people from spamming using their phone...
I'd like a clone of the Iphone's email client. I hate to harp on about it but this is Apple's FIRST attempt and it's pretty much the mutt's nuts.
Microsoft's attempt at HTML email in comparison is ugly, unfriendly and clunky...I mean what's all that 'scroll right' bollocks about??? Just show us the f**king page in a smooth, user-friendly way, allow us to add multiple accounts and switch them on and off as and when required and we will all be happy no doubt.
I've come back to a Windows Mobile device from an iPhone (perhaps because I'm sadistic) and I'm really lamenting the lack of features which I iitially deemed 'showy' on the iPhone when I first saw Steve Jobs showing it off.
I expect that Apple have poached all of Microsoft's best programmers, or else Microsoft have been dedicating 0.0002 percent of their focus to the Windows Mobile O.S.
Sorry for drifting a little off-topic. I will persevere with my Windows Mobile device in the interim and will also be on the hunt for a genuinely enjoyable and multi-functional Email replacement for Windows Mobile - or praying that they see fit to update the built-in one and stem the tide of XDA regulars pouring to Steve Jobs' door.
Let's face it - we've got more options than ever before - Microsoft now have a lot of competition and surely cant afford to keep making applications with the drab look of a chinese Cect iPhone clone's menu system, and relying on HTC to pick up the pieces.
Soon HTC and their incredibly talented programming team will bugger off to Android and we will start to see PROPER email clients, FULL ports of Openoffice, Thunderbird, Google Chrome/Firefox and Pidgin for example - on an open-source network.
I just hope that Microsoft get their act together before my upgrade arrives in february or else this time I'm gone for good.

I just checked my wife's iPhone and I must say the email client is just too good , sent a couple of my HTML emails and I must say it was just the way as they appear in normal outlook.
I am having a Touch HD 800x480 screen and I get to see crappy links while my wife with a
iphone 480x30 screen sees just super HTML emails with all the proper formatting and pictures.
Come on MS , give us a proper email client , after all these years we are in 09 for pet's sake.

I have a BB 9000 for email and I still think BB is the most bullet proof email.
Recently I went to a Nokia E71 and the email client reminds me of the MS one, although it seems to rend emails better.
Ultimately as I have a yahoo email account, i don't really need internal email clients and yahoo2go version 3 is just excellent. It is available for symbian, BB and WM. unfortunately the yahoo2go client looks [email protected] on the Athena VGA display - hopefully it will be updated for VGA WM soon.
Also, have you tried profimail ? I hear it is good. its not technically push, but set up with IMAP you won't notice the difference. There is a trial version

I've moved over from the Windows Mobile camp very recently (2 days now!) and thought i'd say hi
I've found plenty of info in the Hero section very helpful to get me going, and so far I'm remarkably impressed, I was expecting a much less robust solution as Android is so young. I've found it slick, fast, easy to use and very reliable - it's taken away all the pains that WM can cause!
To anyone who has yet to take the leap, I'd STRONGLY recommend it, if you're considering Android in place of your WM handset, you won't be disappointed.
Within an hour of having the device, I've updated the rom, connected it to my exchange server and gmail accounts, setup a forward from my sms to my email (for this sms problem that i've heard mention of), looked at the sky on google sky etc. and it's been a great experience so far.
Anyway, I'll see you around in various threads - no actual questions as such...but this felt the correct area!
Does Android itself provide MS Exchange support for corporate emails without any add on third party software?
I am in double minds to switch to Android but am held back only for the excellent MS Office support on Windows Mobile.
Please advice. I need to decide on this in a day.
The Hero supports exchange natively, but the software provided by Touchdown apparently provides a better corporate "experience", in terms of PIN enforcement etc.
For MS Office support, use DocumentsToGo, which is great, though the device is supplied with QuickOffice which can read many MS Office documents.
Both Touchdown and DocumentsToGo are paid apps.

I find the exchange support sufficient with the hero (Hero version of android supports it natively, Android itself doesnt).
I'm running exchange 2007 and connected it with SSL without any issue at all. calendar, contacts, email all work perfectly fine
Anybody know a calendar application with pen support?
Don't need to sync with google or anything like this. I just would love to be able to see a calendar like one of those paper wall calendars and be able to write notes on it with pen, draw, cross days etc. The usual stuff that people do with wall calendars. Ability to add reminders would be nice to have, but not super important.
I wonder if something like this already exists. If it doesn't, I think it will be a great idea for a creator of Quill. What do you think?

A desk calendar style app that allowed this would be super cool. I'd love to see it myself.
Apparently the note has something like this. It would just have to be ported.

I checked it out, but S planner is more like usual calendar app. It just works with note app to recognize the text (if it can) and import event into planner.
What would be cool to have is a month/week overview, where you could just tap on a day and make the entry in the calendar in a quill style. Just think of a paper calendar. Sometimes it is just nice and comfy to be able to draw and write a simple stuff in there. You could cross the days when you been sober, put smiley faces when you had sex, add handwritten notes to the past and future evens. At the end of the week/month you could take a quick overview and remember how you spent your time or do a report

Really good ideas, but for someone who uses their Google calendar, a totally new app like this would require me to switch entirely ...at which point, I'd likely have to use only my tablet for a calendar.
A tangentially related idea I had for this quill developper was a widget that you could place on your desktop and that could be scribbled on. That's a little like what you're asking.

You're right. An app like this will be for tablet only and will not have sync with google calendar (but maybe could be saved to evernote). If you're a busy person and everyday is booked, then usual calendar app is a lifesaver. In my mind though one shoudn't replace the other. Google calendar great to keep your appointments, birthdays and important dates and is accessible from any device. Notes can be entered there, but they sort of blend in the whole thing and they are not very natural. I find notebook is a lot easier to follow if you need to write and find something worth noting that happened one day or another. For example you have your appointment tracked in google calendar, it will remind you that you need to be there, you will go and meet people. Notes from the meeting are better kept is a separate notebook along with any sketches or anything like this, rather than google calendar. I could keep and organize those notes in several quill notebooks, but chronological order is lost, can't really enter an info, specific to a future or a past date, an overview for weekly/monthly report is not so simple.
Maybe it is better not to think of it as a calendar replacement, but rather a calendar book or a planner. Quill (or other note apps that I found so far) just don't have organization of a calendar (planner) and google calendar doesn't have functionality of a good notebook.

That's not what I had in mind at all. There is already a note app with a widget. It is a standard HTC note app. As a matte of fact it is the only widget that I have on my Flyer's desktop. It is not as good for writing notes as Quill, but it works and is easy to keep track of important information right on the android desktop. Evernote sync gives me ability to put that same important note on the desktop of my PC - works great as a sticky. I also use Color note on a phone, for those important stickies on a go (too bad there is no sync there)
I use both Quill and HTC notes. HTC notes are great for important stuff that I need to keep track of. Quill has replaced a general notebook for me and helped me to get rid of paper clutter. I love my Flyer. That's the first tablet that helped me to organize my messy desk.
i've only had my flyer for a couple of weeks but i agree that this is a brilliant idea.
it would be nice to scribble things in on certain dates and times.
i wish someone takes this idea up and runs with it
I am currently starting to develop for my flyer. At the moment doing a little paint app with pen support which behaves like a pencil.
From what I hear, you just want a plain paper based calendar and than use notifications etc.? So it could have a link to the normal calendar for those features. Should not a biggie. Will think abou that.
