Is there a solution to the 1% Problem? - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

Hello folks:
Of course, if I ask about the problem, is because I have it. You are probably familiar with the story:
a) lost radio all of a sudden
b) can't get past the 1%
c) can't turn on the unit without it being plugged to AC
d) no LED light, and no way to know the status of the battery
I have tried many workarounds, including those posted here:
http://www.xda-developers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2793
http://www.xda-developers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2489&sid=8c1aea80a41318c77a50013b562fe4df
But I am still stuck at the 1%.
Is there a solution? If so, can anyone write a step-by-step?
Thanks, from a desperate XDAer.
Fernando

1% of what? Might help more if we know what you did and what the unit is trying to do that it is stuck at 1%

Just to clarify: this happen all of a sudden. The "1% problem" is characterized by the following two conditions:
a) The radio stack is gone: it does not appear during boot, and if you try to reload it onto the device (via bootloader or active sync), it will give you an error not being able to go beyond the 1% installation.
b) Can't turn on the device without power. However, the device will turn on while plugged to AC, and can be synchronized, and perform all the PDA functions (no radio though so no phone).
This problem has appeared in other discussions, but it seems that a satisfactory solution (one that works for anyone) has not been found. Some people have documented (see forum discussions cited above) having solved the problem individually, but other folks (like myself) have tried such solutions to no avail.
If this is a widespread problem, I am sure there is a fix. In the meantime, I have already asked T-Mobile to send me a replacement. That would at least solve my problem.
Thanks all in advance for your helpful suggestions.
FMW

I had a similar problem where it kept trying to re-install a radio stack, but would stop at "1%". However it never lost the radio stack version. It sounds like the "rom" where the radio stack is stored went bad. Best thing to do is what you are doing. Have T-Mobile replace it.

failing that why try upgrading with the SD and simcard in place you supposed to take them out so it doesnt slow the unit down.
also keep it plugged into the charger too

Disappearing radio?

has anyone come across the problem that when you move to say 3g from gsm or back or you loose signal as your in a bad signal area and then get it back, the phone actually looses the radio says "operation failed" and relocks on to the signal?
mine will sometimes loose the signal need restarting and on the boot screen will show NOGSM when its clearly installed as it worked 20seconds ago. i have tried many types of radio rangeing from 1.07 to 1.41 and all their varients. i am at a loss why my phone just looses it and then forgets it has actually lost it untill i try to make a call or send an sms. no calls or sms's can be received by me whilst the phones done this and it does it a hell of a lot.
sometimes it also just looses the radio half way through a call or data call.
anyone got any ideas?
i have a m3100
IPL 1.04
bootloader 2.10oli
and the XDA live OS installed. however it does it on any OS i have tried so far. and thats alot of them.
Same for me.
Same problem for me.
Often I get the message "operation failed" or "the phone is not ready, wait 15 seconds and try again". Thought it was a problem with the new 1.38 radio, but it seems to be something different.
i also get all those error msg's. i have no idea how to fix it either and no 1 here seems to have a clue either :-(
i Had the same problem with mine it due to hardware i guess. Your phone might have fell down or something then this kind of problem starts I fixed mine by opening my phone up and fixed the arial part properly
torrentulla
is there a guide you follow for that or can you give me any tips to do it myself?
thanks

I fixed my phone almost the same way as Torrentulla did. I'm my case it seems that something was damaged when I dropped my phone a few weeks back. I discovered that when I pushed at a spot right below the flashlight that the radio kept coming up all the time.
These are the steps I took to repair:
Remove all 4 screws (very small torx) at the back of your hermes
Remove back
Put a little piece of paper on the "pressure" spot
Put your phone back together
Turn it on and enjoy!
I hope you'll manage to fix yours aswell!
Phone sometimes shows No GSM, fails to ring
Hey guys, I posted this in the dead hermes thread, but decided to post it here as it's not really bricked. I think it may be a faulty component or something.
My phone was working fine this morning, then in the afternoon I noticed I would have to try to make a call 3 or 4 times before it would go through, it kept on giving me the error (Can't connect, or something along those lines).
Then, I checked my voicemail and found that I had 10 messages from people who had been trying to get in touch with me, but my phone hadn't been ringing.
The kicker came when I soft reset my phone and all of a sudden No GSM popped up! I soft reset it again, and it was gone, and worked fine for a couple of hours. Now its back to not ringing again.
I flashed radio 1.41.00.10 about a week ago, and have been running fine with no problems since. I haven't flashed any rom's in the past week, and this problem just started yesterday. No new software has been installed (except Pimp my black v0.1).
I don't know a lot about the radio, but I didn't think it could become corrupted during regular use, I thought you could only mess it up when you were flashing the phone. I wonder if there is something wrong with the radio? Could the hardware be faulty? This phone is about 8 months old and hasn't had any problems up to this date.
I'm going to flash radio 1.40.10.0 again and see if that makes a difference, but I'd like to know if anyone has any ideas as to what could be causing this.
Sorry this post was so long,
Thanks
-Kai
it seems i don't have a pressure point on mine as the radio is working as and when it likes. which is not alot
gotta sort it out somehow, will take it apart and see if theres anything obvious.
I have the same problem too, phone sometimes shows NO GSM on startup and sometimes it works. Here's where I posted : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=306073
Now its not even showing NO GSM it just says: NONE, NONE
Also, I noticed that it will only last about 6 hours on a full charge before the battery is absolutely dead.
I'm beginning to think that it may be my radio 1.41.00.10
It seems strange that all of these people are suddenly having this problem now.
Whats the warranty like on these devices? Is it a 1 years parts and defects warranty? Or is it some ****ty 90 day warranty?
As it is my phone is a piece of garbage, not worth using at all, I am very disapointed in it.
It's a hardware problem.
Hi guys,
I'm experiencing the same problems since two months and I've been struggling with all kind of OS, ROM, RADIO and bootloader, without even gettin close to solve them.
My phone randomly loads the RADIO (otherwise I get the "No Gsm" message), even when loaded, the connection is not suitable and my phone is often unreachable on the net. The battery life is very short because the phone always looses the signal and then seraches till he find it, before loosing it again.
So I disassembled my phone and did a lot of testing with hardware connections. I have found that the motherboard connection with the flash/scroll module isn't stable at all. You can easily move it and find that this affects the phone ability to load the RADIO. It seem strange but it's true. I can't solve the problem and I'm very upset with HTC because of their hardware components lack of quality. I would like to try to change the module to but I can't find a place where i can buy HTC hardware parts.
So I'm going to change my pda, I'll never buy HTC anymore.
Any help?
Has anyone figured out the problem? If it is hardware, what "pressure" spot is it? I tried, but wondered if I'm not in the right place.
In my case it was a spot right below the flash/scroll-part. As said earlier, i put a piece of paper on the spot and reassembled the phone. It still works excellent after a week!
My dopod can't connect to the mobile network as well, but only with the 3 network. It seems fine when being connected to an Optus network. Have you guys tried using a different network simcard?
I'm not sure if mine is a physical problem but maybe a setting which i need to configure so i can connect to a 3 network. Help anyone?
ROM version : Pro BLACK 3.0
ROM date : 01/04/07
Radio version : 1.41.00.10
mine also works just under the flash with the cover off, but if i hold it too hard then the screen goes all white and doesn't work, until i can get the case off its a hit and miss game at the moment.
thanks very much for the tips and help

I cannot agree with this more.
I am sick to death of this phone. I had one of the first in the country for normal sales and spent weeks arguing with HTC who flatly denied the screen alignment issue. EVENTUALLY I got them to fix this after referencing posts in this forum.
I continued to suffer the "coma" software issue - why is it so F*((&&^ dificult for a device to wake up when its auto-sleeped?
And finaly, to top it off, I have been suffering this problem. I cannot express how mad I am. Did I buy a cheap phone? NO. I have had nothing but problems with this phone and will NOT buy another HTC.
Oh and if anyone knows how to repair a failed Radio upgrade, please help me! I don't have any choice but to use it until the IMate Ultimates come out.
Due to seeing this radio problem I thought I would try downgrading the radio from 1.4.summint or other (the latest) to a slightly older version. This was of course before I saw this thread. During the downgrade the installer stopped at 15%. Now no matter what I do it sits at the IPL/SPL screen (3 colour bars+white). I have done the obvious i.e. follow the installers error procedure (remove the battery).
Device: HERM200
IPL-1.04
SPL-2.10.Olipro
Please help me be able to use this for another month or two at most - i hope!
Thanks guys
update:
OK Guys
thanks to this thread: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Unbrick
I now have it trying to boot the o/s. I get the message "No GSM" on the boot screen but when it boots up it asks me for my pin number and freezes. I guess its locking up because it has no "phone" part? According to the instructions in the other thread I am supposed to flash it again but I can't as the phone locks on boot.....
Any ideas?
*FINALY* got it back into pre-flash feck up situation. Sadly, this still leaves me with the hardware problem. HTC can go poke themselves until the cows come home. Im taking my money somewhere else.

[Q] Rebooting randomly

Hey all,
My phone was workin great until about yesterday, i did a factory reset to see if a flash app was preinstalled or not and then i charged the battery until full and let it run out over night (which it drained all the way). Last night until this morning i let the battery drain again, although this time i got the error:
"Modem did not power up (0)
Starting RSD protocol support
Not enough power to flash" (somethin like that).
So i charged it to about 30% and it was finally able to boot, however, i'm now getting random reboots where it's gettin stuck on the screen:
"Modem did not power up (0)
Starting RSD protocol support" (slightly different then previous error)
What are my options here?
Thanks
*EDIT* This phone was never rooted.
Not to be rude...but why isn't Motorola or AT&T the first place you went to for this problem? If the phone isn't even rooted or modified at all...and it's having problems with rebooting and hardware issues (the modem problem)...you wouldn't think of getting a replacement before posting on an internet forum? It's almost obviously a hardware issue...

Wasn't rude at all, we just approach a problem in two different ways. Part of me knew it was a hardware issue, part of thought it could have been a software issue. So i figured i'd post here to see if this has happened to anyone else, maybe it was an app running in the background that didn't like this new dual core and was crashing the phone? I certainly didn't know, so i posted here. It's far easier to post on an internet forum designed for the phone, than it is to drive to the store and have a back and forth with the employee.
*EDIT* and for clarification i just brought it back to radio shack and had them exchange it
Its great when people come here and ask questions that way if its a larger issue then when people search for a fixx they can see other people are having the problem too.

Determining the original carrier [an attempt to fix the hot battery reboots]

Hi fellow enthusiasts,
i have a problem with my Atrix 4G MB860 that is bugging me for a very long time. I tried fixing it by myself by trying out many different roms, radios and kernels but apparently had no luck with that. I'll explain to you what my problem is, and hope that there is someone out there that can eventually help me.
The problem is that my Atrix is rebooting when my data connection is ON. The phone gets very hot after a while (sometimes its just a matter of minutes, and sometimes it takes longer, but it is inevitable) and it reboots. This never happens if my data is OFF, and it will never reboot when i am connected to the internet over WiFi. I would also like to point out that this is not a battery problem, as the battery doesn't get hot, but the lower left part of the phone (near the SD card).
By reading lots of info about all this i have concluded that the problem is in my baseband, and that i probably don't have the right radio for my phone. So i started changing radios, and believe me, i have tried'em all, and every single one of them had the same problem.
I am now ready to go for the last resort, installing sbf with rsdlite in order to return to the stock firmware hoping that this may fix my problem, but the thing is, i don't know what my original carrier is, and have no way to find out. All i know is that it is bought somewhere in Europe.
Is there a way i can detect my original carrier?
Can i try and flash a random EU firmware (yes, i have read the warnings about this)?
Do you have any, and i mean ANY, suggestions?
I will attach a logcat if that may help you.
Please help, i am desperate.

[Q] 920 Rebooting Problem

I have been having this problem pretty much since day 1, I've also searched the Nokia Support Discussions and it seems quite a lot of people are experiencing this. I was actually surprised that my Go-To forum here at XDA doesn't have a thread on it.
My Black Lumia 920 (EE, Phones4U, Unlocked) reboots on average about 5 times a day. Yesterday was probably the worst yet with roughly 8 reboots. That may have been more noticeable to me because I used a SIM which requires a pin though.
What I've noticed:
-The device is roughly 10 days old.
-It has been rebooting an average of 5-8 times a day
-It mostly reboots when idle (so when I'm not using it)
-I've had it reboot only twice while in use when making a call
-I've had it reboot only once when playing music.
-I've only ever noticed it rebooting when it is face up
-Rebooting happens regardless of the SIM (although I have not used it without a SIM at all) (Used both a micro SIM and a SIM cut down to size, used the original carrier SIM and other SIM, no difference to rebooting behaviour)
-I only turn on the radios I need when I need them, so 2G active 100%, 3G/4G, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC off for 70% of the time.
-It is not due to battery drain as I usually have about 40% battery at the end of the day.
This has been my experience with the rebooting problem. The figures and estimates I'm giving are not over stating and I've tried giving as much detail so as to try and provide useful information for a solution.
Has anyone else been having this problem?
Has anyone found a working solution?
Has anyone heard or read anything concerning a fix for this?
nope - blue one on AT&T
I'd look at your installed apps, apps enabled to run in the background, etc. It should not be rebooting at all.
I have seen some posts like yours on the internets, but its not a "common" as in most 920s do it problem. Which leads me to think its some issue with an app or apps installed on some phones.
Possible solution
Hi kyrirhcp
I had a similar problem. I reset the phone which bricked it and then used this tutorial to un-brick it:
http://forums.wpcentral.com/nokia-l...after-reset-flash-process-defined-inside.html
The only difference is that I downloaded the "Nokia Data Package Manager" (not sure where from but I'm sure you can find it). This software allows you to download the firmware files directly into the correct folder. You could also look at this tutorial:
http://aydon.wordpress.com/2012/11/29/how-to-flash-your-lumia-920english/
The ROM you want is the EE specific one. It even specifies the colour of the phone. The version number is: 1232.2110.1244.3011
If you reset the device and it does not brick (i.e. freeze up on reformat) then the problem is solved and you don't need to worry. If it bricks (which it probably will) then you need to flash to recover the phone.
God bless
andrew-in-woking
Hi Andrew, thanks for your suggestions but I'm avoiding it like the plague if I'm honest. Resetting my phone and risking a brick, even with your added fix tutorial really doesn't seem worth it. Also I'm assuming that the problem you PM'd me with regarding the loss of some functionality is a result of the fix you suggest. I'm not yet willing or ready to f with my device the same way as I did with my SGNote, even more so since developers haven't yet gotten the experience they have with android. Anyway, i seem to have perhaps solved the problem at least for my device. I changed the regional settings for a completely unrelated matter and I have not since had a single reset or the accompanying massive battery drain. It's now been 3 days. The only other change was that I removed tunein radio an reinstalled it. So it seems that my problem has been solved (fingers crossed, knock on wood, ftou ftou ftou, wearing an evil eye). I hope this helps others with their problems and makes this amazing device useable to those that had this problem.
Sent from my RM-821_eu_euro1_342 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
Try removing Whatsapp if you've got that installed.
I have had a lot of the same problems. My phone locks up a few times per day. This is the 2nd Lumia 920 I've had. After getting the second with the same problem, I decided to wait for the Portico update that was supposed to address random restarts.
Since then, I've been communicating with Nokia and Windows Phone support on twitter. All they suggest is uninstalling apps, disabling radios, contacting individual developers, and resetting your phone.
I have a hard time wrapping my mind around that. How is it possible for a user level application to take down the whole operating system/firmware?? There are plenty of crappy apps on the Windows Phone Store, I don't think it should be up to me to figure out which is destroying my experience.
I used to root/hack all my old Windows Mobile phones/android phones. When it locked up, it really was up to me to fix it and figure it out!! I chose Windows Phone since it had the locked ecosystem similar to Apple. While that may not appeal to everyone, I have a very busy life and I don't want to spend more time screwing with my phone. It just needs to work! This is my 3rd Windows phone and it's been the worst so far.

Suddenly Dead Phone - after a Night able to turn on, but no BT, no outgoing VoiceCall

Hey Folks,
i ran into some really weird, yet strange Problems with my Honor 7. Let me tell you what happend:
I used my Phone on B140 for more than 2 Years without any Problems. Now i upgraded to B396 (Removed Root+ChineseTWRP, Full Update to B396, then installed TWRP+SuperSU), and used it afterwards without any Problems for like a Week or so.
Then, i was on my Way, looked something on on Facebook, turned it off, after 2 mins wanted to turn it on again - no Reaction. Totally nothing Tried booting it up Normally, to Recovery, To Fastboot - with and without plugged USB to PC, absolutely nothing happend. Had it on Power for like half an Hour, nope. I was shure it died.
The morning after, i just pressed the Powerbutton as a way 2 say goodbye - Empty Battery Sign! Wtf?! I was able to charge and use it again. Unfortunatly with some minor Problems.
- Whatever i try, when calling, i can clearly hear the other person, but the other part cant hear me. I tried it both with headsets and normal, in- or outgoing call, doesnt matter. Generally the mic is working, though. Was able to record my voice and play it back.
- Bluetooth aint working anymore. When i try to turn it on, the switch stays in the right position (doesnt change the color anyway), and afterwords its flipping back. Oh, and when i look at the "about"Section, under Bluetooth Mac it states "not available".
So. What the h*** is going on there?! Like i said, after upgrading to B396, it was working for at least a week without any problems, without the problems described above. So i highly doubt its a general problem with the upgrade/flashing. But what else?
And, any advice how to a) fix and b) prevent further failures?
Of course it would be best to know what initially caused those problems, but i really cant tell. Anyone any ideas?
Like anyone else of course, one needs a reliable phone. I mean, im happy that i can at least communicate over IM (yes, 3G/4G works without any Problems). But i'd love to make calls again, to e.g. tell my boss id be slightly belated or let mum know everythings alright
So, any Idea what caused that, how to solve and prevent that is highly appreciated!
Greetings and Thankin u in advance!
Folks, i still have that strange Issue/Behaviour (though, of course, in the Meantime im using another Phone ).
But think that should be possible to totally, absolutely, reset the Phone, and trying to get rid of those Problems. Too Sad to see the Phone collecting dust, where it might be a great Device for a Friend.
What i did by now:
Unroot
Reflash Fastboot recovery, boot, cust, system.
Factory Reset
Update.zip in dload
But there is still no Bluetooth-Adress available, when calling i cant hear the other Person.
It somehow seems not to completely reset the phone - there are still user-data on the Phone.
As i really dont care about those data - is there something else i can do above fastboot flashing those files mentioned above, to absolutely start from a scratch?
