I recently upgraded the ROM on my XDA and now there is a long time lag in between pressing the power off button and the screen actually switching off (5-10 seconds). Power on is instantaneous.
Has anyone else encountered this and know what's causing it (and how to fix it?!?)?
Thanks.
Rob

I had the same problem and after a couple of days the the system froze. After doing a soft reset, the radio unit would not come to life anymore and i had to do a hard reset. Very annoying!!!
As late as yesterday evening the delays when switching the XDA of started again, so I´m very curious if history will repeat itself......
Yeah, I've noticed the delay... It's annoying.
Yea me2, it can be annoying, espiecally when all you are turning it on for is to check the time

I had a lockup occur, firstly it lost signal, tried soft reset, nothing, just momentarily switched back light on then off then just sat there. Any further presses of reset switch did the same. Had to do a hard reset in the end. Anybody else have this happen. :?:
yes! twice!
i noticed tho, that it only happened when playing Turjah 2 for ipaq, not xda, or the cpu accelerator.
it locks and would only work with a hard reset.
hmmm.
Hi,
I have an 18 month old XDA1 that I believe has developed a hardware fault.
It has recently demonstrated the following faults (no new software added for several months):
1) Most common - It fails to alert me to appointments when the unit is turned off and reboots to the splash screen when turned on.
(I’ve seen this even with no user data or third party apps loaded).
2) Occasionally the XDA doesn’t know how much charge it has and doesn't charge when connected to a supply (I have to turn the battery off and on again).
3) SD card gets erased.
4) Running incredibly slowly (for example the start menu takes 10-20 seconds to scroll down, and switching between applications takes ages).
5) Sometimes the backlight flashes on briefly every 15-20 seconds, until the unit is reset.
I have tried numerous resets, and several complete power downs (which mean the unit needs a lot of setting up afterwards).

(from Jeff's Kitchen, worked fine for 6 months)
ROM Date: 06/23/03
Radio Version: 4.21.00
Protocol Version: 32S54
Has anyone seen these problems before?
Is it a hardware fault or ROM / software?
Could it be that the backup battery is failing?
Any help appreciated, thanx in advance,
Muddy.
I could think it's ROM related issues especially with such outdated beta release. I would recommend flashing 4.01.00 or 4.01.16 which has fixes for both the slowness (clear_notify.DB) and the wake up bug.
Thanks,
I've upgraded to 4.01.16.
I've had it 'crash in its sleep', and reboot to the splash screen when turned on, about once a day (3 times in total) since then.
Also, writing to the SD via ActiveSync is problematic, and I have to reset the XDA to gain write access.
I've not seen the other faults so far.
Rgds,
Muddy.
First, let me say this is a great site. I've been reading through it since I got my XDA last week.
I have a strange problem. When the XDA is on and not in standby, it works great. However, when the screen blanks and shuts off, I have the hardest time to get it back on. I know it has power as the indicator light is blinking green. However, I have to hit the power button several times to get it to come back or sometimes hold the power button. On occasion I can't get it back for several minutes. Also, I miss calls while on standby. If I soft boot it, the startup screen comes on and it sometimes hangs there.
I have upgraded the ROM from the Kitchen, but it made no difference. I don't think it's hardware, as the power button puts it on standby easily. Plus, I miss calls while on standby, so it just seems to hang and not boot up everytime.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Quick question, what software are you including when cooking your ROM.
This was the same behavior with the office WM2003 T-Mobile Rom. So I don't think it's an app, but I can try a build with no extra apps. Right now I have:
CabInstl
PocketNav
System Snapshot
Caller2Picture
Olivers ActionPack
Pic and Ring
PhonExt
Hi All,
I have a problem with my Hero, and i am hoping some one could help, here goes:
I had my hero for about 6 month working perfectly including GPS with Waze.
Yestderday i decided to try out some new roms, i backed up my stock (with root) firmware 1.5 with nandroid. i installed Villainrom V12 everything worked exept Waze, it kept giving me messeges that there is no satelite reception (which is not possible cause i always used to get reception there). So i went back and restored my backup and now it's the same, no satelite reception . . .
Did i some how fry my GPS component ? or is it fixable.
Thanks in Advance
Can't really help you with a fix but last sunday I didn't get a sat fix at home, drive 50 miles to London, still no fix, tried turning the phone on and off, gps on and off still wouldn't get a fix all the way there. Stayed in London for three hours, turned gps on when I left and got a instant fix! Been working fine ever since!
I've had very similar problems with my GPS. It worked great on stock, but when I installed a custom ROM, I started having intermittent issues. I'm using VillainROM 12 and the most recent radio, and sometimes I get a fix right away, and other times I don't get a fix at all. When I can't get a fix, rebooting the phone almost always gets it working again. I had the same problem with an older radio and VillainROM 10. I do remember seeing a tentative workaround somewhere in these forums, but am having trouble finding it again...
I spoke to soon, I tried it with gps status last night, wouldn't get a lock, drove 6 miles, still no lock, left in on for an hour, still no lock. Did a hard reset last night, got an near instant lock with gps status. I've tried it about 4 times today, got a lock everytime. I'll test it all week and see what happens.
Well i had kept my stock radio , maybe i should try updating that and see what happens.
@marky33 When you say hard reset what do you mean ? did you take the battery out ?
Hard reset is just shut down the phone and turn it on again (rather than soft - i.e. reboot using buttons). This can fix GPS issues but in most recent ROM's it should be fixed by default. It can also be a radio issue - get the latest and you shouldn't have a problem.
Ive had this problem with villainrom 12, the fix used to be to switch on the gps before a reboot, and then after rebooting ( with the GPS switched on) it would work and find satellites.
I havnt had this problem since switching to Radio 63.18.55.06PU_6.35.15.14
Radio I used which had this problem with villainrom was 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.09.26

Haven't you got hard and soft the wrong way round?

Like this below, wipes all user data
Power the unit off (removing the battery if necessary)
Hold down the Home and Back keys
Press the power button whilst still holding down the Home and Back keys
After a few seconds a message will be displayed on the screen prompting you to press the Menu button to confirm the reset process.
Release all buttons, then press the Menu button to hard reset the device

No, a hard reset is usually a reset which removes all power from a device and then starts again - i.e. resetting the hardware itself by removing power
A soft reset is a software reset - i.e. rebooting the software of the phone

What you're talking about is probably a "factory reset" which should reset the device to factory defaults (i.e. just been sent from HTC's manufacturing factory). But i have never seen it referenced to as a fix for GPS issues - or any issues involving custom rom's for that matter.
I stand corrected about hard and soft
Just wanted to let the people know that the problem was solved after doing the same thing as nijnvy, the second i updated i am getting gps lock in seconds.
Thanks to every one

WiFi doesn't work whatsoever. It either sits there saying "Obtaining IP Address/Saved, Secured/Avoided poor connection." Which any other phone in the household is able to connect to WiFi rock solid, no problems.
Upon answering a phone call, the screen goes blank. You press the buttons at the bottom or even the power button to get the home screen to come back up, which nothing happens! About 2-3 minutes after that happened, the phone ended up restarting while I was still on the call.
Has anyone had similar problems? What was your resolution to solve?
If no one has had similar problems, What can be done to fix these issues?
I was oddly enough able to get WiFi to work.
However, the issues with the screen going black is getting on my nerves. Only does it when receiving a call or making a call. And as I mentioned above, you can't press the bottom buttons that light up as well as pressing the power button does no good cause the home screen don't come up.
Once the call has ended whether the call was made or received, the screen has no problem in coming up if pressed the power button.
