Is it possible to use the XDA as a modem over IR?
Yes, you need a ROM, which support Wireless Modem. This uses both serial and IR ports.
Thanks for that, where would I get this ROM from?
special edition rom
http://xda-developers.com/SER/
It might help to get a serial cable 1st, TMobile sells 'em for $20 US. I've not gotten an INF file for the silly thing to dial out yet though, still treading the board.
Gig 'em,

in my qtek wmodem is there as default o2 have a pdf about how you setup your laptop or pc to use the pda as a modem

I would like to use my XDA to FAX directly to any number. Not using any kind internet service like printeron.com
Do the T-Mobiles have this capability?
Thanks in advance.

There's a program called 'KSE TrueFax' for PocketPC. It was made to talk to Hayes modems, but they did create a version for this device. It never really left beta though, since (my guess), there were too many different ROM versions with different RIL-dll properties, and too many providers, like O2-nl , block fax calls for some yet-to-be-understood reason.
Modem for FAX???
Does the XDA comes with a modem integrated or not, I would like to send my faxes just dialing to a fax number directly from my xda, without using external modems or things like that.
Yes, there's an integrated modem. But normally, applications can only talk to it using a mechanism called 'TAPI'. It is also a hayes modem, but only if you use some special tricks.
What application would you like to use to send the faxes?
I will use any application that you tell me, I have a T-Mobile
PPC Phone.
I already downloaded the KSE but as a Hayes Modem it goes straight to find a com port.

I have been using O2 xda Truefax ver. 2.03.03 for sending and receiving fax. You can download it at www.myxda.com
You will need to activate a fax line with your provider.
The only problem is that it would not auto answer and turn off the phone while execution. Once the operation is completed, the phone will come on again. Very inconvenient if you have pin on. I find that sending fax is ok but very bad success rate on receiving.
Hope this help.
Thanks but this only works with CABLES attached to my XDA, I am looking to send a fax at a construction site where there are no cables. I would like to use my XDA as a stand alone solution. I HATE CABLES. I need to know how to set it up to send faxes, I would like to know the TRICKS.

Hi, I forgot to mention, it is a software, no cable needed. Download the trial version. So far it keeps my job going when I needed an urgent fax.
You need to activate a fax line with your mobile phone provider, similar to your data line ( not land line !). It is quite cool.
How do you set the phone to work?, which modem?, any special preferences?.
Thanks

This version of TrueFax is specially designed for O2 xda. You do nothing, it will port itself to Com#2, and set the strings. You just fax !
Down load the trial, I am sure you will be delighted.
You must have fax feature activated by your mobile provider. They will assign you a different mobile fax number.

Hi cchia,
Which mobile phone provider you are using now? :?:
I am using MAXIS fax service. And I have been having a severe problem sending the fax since 3 months ago. In fact, I had tried it in a very strong signal. 90% fail to send.
The problems I encountered are:
1. Read timeout on serial port. Line dropped.
2. Will not work with certain fax machine.
3. Not all pages can be sent in one time. Especially, if certain part of the page is blank.

TrueFAX download source
You said TrueFAX can be downloaded from mypda.com, but unfortunately that's only for US users  , I suppose: They ask for your device's IMEI number, and if you don't have a valid one: Goodbye .
Is there a source for non-US XDA-owners who also want to use their device as a fax machine? :?:
Martin
I'm in the US and put my IMEI number and what not knowing it was probably an auto response email system, and....they sent the link to me.
Now for the bad news. If your are running an incarnation of 2003 once installed it will kill your power switch  i.e. once you turn the phone off the power switch will not turn it back on nor any of the buttons. You have to do a soft reset :x
Give ut a try though if you're brave 8) I already looked all through the reg to see if I could find and fix this little setting as a result of install, but no luck
Does anyone have the ability to put a sim locked XDA II in bootloader mode, connect it to a serial cable and run a Linux tool of mine to communicate with it?
Thanks,
I have 12 XDA IIs that I need to get unlocked. I will be happy to cooperate with you in any way. I can even get some of them to you if that will help. Let me know what you want.
At the moment I prefer someone that can hook an XDA II to a serial cable and run a tool on Linux for me. I'm traveling so can't deal with hardware.
Come on guys anyone with a serial cable...? Lets unlock these babies...
hey,
i have just purchased a Touch Plus (Dual) after selling my Kaiser due to it being utter ****e, I am really happy with the phone and am looking at using toms cooked rom, the problem is the price plan i am on with T-Mobile UK requires its own app called MyFaves which AFAIK is built into the custom rom T-Mobile include, its used to manage my 5 chosen contacts which work with my price plan, my question is if i install the cooked rom will it remove this app and how do i get it back as my price plan wont work without it,
Regards
Xionic
im with t-mobile on the flext plan with same phone and i dont think i have that app... maybe its just a case of them sending it to you like an sms that you accept.
think something like that happened on my mda vario
Regardless of the t-mob contract you're on the app is in there - just depends whether it's activated or not. It's also hidden as a 4th side to the cube.
As to how you'd extract it I don't know, sorry It runs as a service and has reg keys in various places. There are also a number of brn files for the cube so stripping it out will not be easy.
yea i work for t-mobile and can definately confirm the MyFaves app cannot be sent to the phone or be downloaded from anywhere, the only option i can see is for someone to extract it, i know it has been done on the US version, anyone who could do this would be great, and i would be happy to pay
Bump, anyone???,
can't you tell them that you're using another phone and would like to find out a work around or if they can send you that application to install onto another windows mobile phone?
Surely you don't need an app for this? Just call the numbers as usual right??
As I state above I work for t-mobile (customer services), if there was a simple way round it i'd know about it, and I've spoken to techy's and everyone and there is no way to install the app' its included with the rom and the price plan does not work correctly without it, only way round this i can see is for someone to use a t-mobile branded handset and try and extract the program from the rom.
Try install Myfaves cab files in here.....

I have the Tmobile MyFav 2000 family plan and have the stock HTC Touch Dual WWE rom. Where I am located the application is not needed, you just need to login to your tmobile account online and manage your MyFav's manually. It took me a while to find because its buried in there. It lets you plug in a number and a name.
I have checked my bill and I am not penalized for those numbers. The application only makes it easy to change the MyFav's wich Tmobile only allows you to do every so often (I think every 30 days)
Hope this helps,
if you are unable to find the MyFav's section online let me know, I will help build a map to it.

Strange, I have nothing like that in mine that I have spotted!
I want to unlock this phone. I ve got the UNL file. BUT no cable.
ANYONE can suggest any other idea ??
OR if anybody can provide me the PINOUTs of this phone. Its socket is quite different from other HTC phones. So bit confused.
BR
just buy a cable on eBay
I bought a cable from Hong Kong ,it took me 11 days to come to Bosnia and Herzegovina, wich is good, because it's a long distance you have it on ebay.

If your intention was to SIM unlock your phone, all you have to do was to contact AT&T with with the original phone number the phone was registered with & the IMEI number.
Or get the original owner to do it for you.
Pop in your new SIM card & when prompted for the SIM Unlock code, just input the code that AT&T provides you.
No cable, no pin-outs needed.
Then, use the microSD method to flash the phone.
You're done!
But, if you want to sync with your PC, it's highly recommended that you purchase a sync-charge cable as this is about the only means to sync your phone if BT ActiveSync is not working on the ROM you're planning to upgrade to.
Ok, is it possible to get the official hd2 new rom on my virgin media hd2, im currently running 1.66. It says my serial number is invalid on the site because its a branded phone (but its not network locked). Also, does flashing a custom/new rom thats not correctly branded void warrenty? thanks.
I contacted HTC about this as I am also on Virgin and they said they don't support Virgin mobiles :S Bit off considering I got this as a contract deal from Virgin
"...bit off considering..."
of whom? htc? not really, it means virgin chose to support their own phones, rather than let htc do it, which would have cost them (virgin) more.
same with most networks, they lock the phones and handle issues themselves, and in return their purchase price is reduced.
goldcard is currently the only method to get a working 3.14 rom on our provider locked phones, gimme a cid and i'll make you one.
Thanks strange, I'm on Virgin and dont have any issues at all
I have gone back to cooked roms and have HSPL on the phone
Have you looked for a wwe serial to use instead of your own?

not that that would be any use, because if it wont download using your serial, it wont install on a phone with that serial, unless you use hspl, which makes 3.14 roms not work.
Besides, if you are gonna use a different serial, you might as well just download it from somewhere that doesnt require a serial, , the leo stock roms thread for instance.

Unless Virgin have made their own ROM for us (which they obviously haven't) then it is out of order.
They shouldn't sign a deal unless they can keep phones maintained, especially buggy ones like this.

heh, dont get me wrong, im right behind you, god bless the capitalist way,,, everyones a winner except the consumer.
Well after speaking to Virgin tech support, they have not stopped you flashing to the latest ROM - they encourage it!!
Go figure it out
In fact I have just entered my serial number - they are Zero's not O's
and it allowed me to download and run (I aborted at the last option) so its not Virgin is it?
I also work for them and vouch for the info
Well I've just been on the HTC website to once again try to upgrade my ROM, it won't even let me download it as it says the software is unsuitable for my device.
I'm looking at putting my phone onto Windows 7, are there any tutorials on how to do this? I've never flashed this phone before.
