Virgin Media UK Rom - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, is it possible to get the official hd2 new rom on my virgin media hd2, im currently running 1.66. It says my serial number is invalid on the site because its a branded phone (but its not network locked). Also, does flashing a custom/new rom thats not correctly branded void warrenty? thanks.

I contacted HTC about this as I am also on Virgin and they said they don't support Virgin mobiles :S Bit off considering I got this as a contract deal from Virgin

"...bit off considering..."
of whom? htc? not really, it means virgin chose to support their own phones, rather than let htc do it, which would have cost them (virgin) more.
same with most networks, they lock the phones and handle issues themselves, and in return their purchase price is reduced.
goldcard is currently the only method to get a working 3.14 rom on our provider locked phones, gimme a cid and i'll make you one.

Thanks strange, I'm on Virgin and dont have any issues at all

I have gone back to cooked roms and have HSPL on the phone
Have you looked for a wwe serial to use instead of your own?

not that that would be any use, because if it wont download using your serial, it wont install on a phone with that serial, unless you use hspl, which makes 3.14 roms not work.
Besides, if you are gonna use a different serial, you might as well just download it from somewhere that doesnt require a serial, , the leo stock roms thread for instance.

Unless Virgin have made their own ROM for us (which they obviously haven't) then it is out of order.
They shouldn't sign a deal unless they can keep phones maintained, especially buggy ones like this.

heh, dont get me wrong, im right behind you, god bless the capitalist way,,, everyones a winner except the consumer.

Well after speaking to Virgin tech support, they have not stopped you flashing to the latest ROM - they encourage it!!
Go figure it out
In fact I have just entered my serial number - they are Zero's not O's
and it allowed me to download and run (I aborted at the last option) so its not Virgin is it?
I also work for them and vouch for the info

Well I've just been on the HTC website to once again try to upgrade my ROM, it won't even let me download it as it says the software is unsuitable for my device.
I'm looking at putting my phone onto Windows 7, are there any tutorials on how to do this? I've never flashed this phone before.

Anyone had a warranty rejected due to wrong radio

I want to upgrade my radio (Tmobile uk stock 1.05, terrible reception), but I'm fearful in case I need the warranty. I know I can't go back if I upgrade to the ones with Bootloader 1.08. Has anyone been refused warranty due to having flashed their radio?
fyi: I have never read anywhere that a warranty was rejected due to wrong radio. By chance if a carrier store would reject it, then I would just take the PPC to a different store.
Although I've never heard of it either I'd say it's a valid concern as the carriers don't offer the radio as a separate flash. Now that the generic TyTN ROM has been released, however, I'd say you could probably make a pretty good argument for having 1.48 installed. Just my .02.
I have had my 8525 replace twice and 8125 (back when I had it) replace once. My radio rom was always different but they never rejected the phones.
Is this the day of the worry worts! First the mediamax thread and now this. I take it for granted that if I mess with my device I void the warranty...however I also would try to submit a claim and be the squeaky wheel to the warranty dept until they honored my claim. I dont think in the case of ATT they check these things for XBM anyway.
Im a newb so excuse me if I missed something, but I sent my phone in for warranty replacement recently and I used Mr. Vanx's guide for downgrading and was able to roll the radio back the version listed in the current Cing/ATT ROM that is downloadable.

That's fine if there's an official upgrade for your carrier. TMobile UK haven't released anything and if I flash to 1.50 I will not be able to to go back to the original. To hell with it tho, I'm going for it.
Let me know how it goes
I tried doing it to mine and I've been in the basement for months trying to fix it.

Seems OK but my 3G is now called H and it runs at 200kbps instead of 800, so perhaps not the greatest upgrade.

Trying to go from sprint to telus

I just bought a sprint mogal to replace my burnt out p4000. I tried installing the telus cab, nut couldn't get it to connetect to telus (and I did change my settings in the ESPT using the new ESN numbers etc with my old telus defult settings that i wrote down... all of them) I was still getting the roaming probs. I tried *22803 as well as ##MSL# to no avail. So I figured maybe it would be best to down flash to stock telus Rom and radio and go from there. So I used titan relocker (to replace my nue SPL 2.47) and tried to flash the stock rom. Now I am getting a ERROR 294 invalid vender id.
Does this mean that I can't use this phone on telus? I just shelled out dollars thinking it would be no biggie to switch it over. Am I missing something?
Thanks for any help....
Surprisingly I am not freaking out yet, just enjoy another programing puzzle lol
You need a telus prl. Also you can't relock a sprint phone and install a Telus rom. The phone has to be unlocked to install the telus rom.
i have had a situation that does not shine much hope on your situation. i used to work for telus and was provided a diamond for testing purposes when they came out. it had a problem and our htc rep sent me a new one straight from taiwan. now heres the kicker -----it could not be activated untill the esn was entered into the system on the back end by telus, this took well over a week. this is far from a standard esn exchange. never in two years of working with telus have i been able to get the data network assistance guys to enter a non telus branded phone. the super tight back end activation will not allow it.
i really hope im wrong, and i hope someone will respond to this and make me look foolish, but they would not even accept ne bell pda's which r essentially the same phone minus the existence in the telus master database.
oh man i cannot wait till the tech switch next year so this will no longer be a problem.
as a last resort, i do have a p4000 i nolonger use as the call and end buttons no longer work, but all the touchscreen options make it still quite usable. if u would consider some sort of swap, i do not intend to exchange any $$$ of ne kind, i am open for suggestions. i just see no point of my old p4000 sitting around when it could be used
Alas krazycanuck82 you are correct. The kicker is that next year they told it this would no longer be a problem. I am waiting to receive an email from Telus tonight about what options they can give me on a new phone based on a sorta promise from me that if they can't give me a deal I will just buy out the last year of my contract and shop around. So we shall see. As for the Sprint phone. I will still be using it for other apps for the time being so am not to concerned on that front. Just a lesson learned to never assume LOL.

Finally got my HD2 fixed, but they've changed the ROM

Hey guys,
So my phone developed a strange white mark on the screen. Took it to get it fixed and finally a month later Vodafone returned a different handset to me with the latest Vodafone ROM on it as I expected.
Bottom line is I don't want the Vodafone ROM on it. Can I simply install the official HTC ROM onto the handset from their website? Is it that simple or will it totally mess up my handset?
Thanks.
Richard.
Ha, just discovered now that it is locked to Vodafone. Can I make an issue out of this with the idiots at Vodafone? HTC website won't let me download their ROMs. What can I do about this?
do a hspl and flash away.......
BIG ISSUE
If the phone you send in to repair was originally an unbranded device and they returned you a branded device. I would make a BIG (oh no a HUGE) issue out of it, they just can't do that. They have to replace it with a similar device, a branded Vodafone device isn't worth half on the second hand market because of SIM-lock.
But you cannot just install a HTC ROM, you'll have to use HSPL2 (1.66HSPL preferable) but HSPL2 can void your warranty, all tough it is reversible. With HSPL2 the Vodafone branded device will still be SIM-locked.
webpatrick this is exactly as I thought...so yesterday before looking at the posts on here I sent a very heated email to Vodafone telling them exactly as it is. This handset is worthless to me. And you are right about the branding. I bought a phone last year that was branded (I didn't know this when I got it) and I had loads of trouble trying to sell it on. I can mess with the ROMs all I want but the bottom line is that any new HTC ROMs would never install unless I HSPL2 it, so how could I sell it on to someone without telling them that it is branded? I can't.
Words cannot convey how fuming I am with Vodafone right now. It took them a month to get a working device back into my hands...and then it wasn't even my device or indeed a similarly set up device. Absolutely pathetic. This means I have to make more journeys to the Vodafone store, waste my time and money etc.
Thanks for your posts guys. I will let you know what develops. I should be recieving a reply to my email at some point soon.
Richard
Ok so I got this email back from them today. How do you think I should proceed?
"Hello Richard,
To reinstall the HTC ROM on your phone you can visit the nearest Vodafone stores.
Alternatively, you need to contact the HTC manufacturer if they can help you to reinstall the HTC ROM on your phone.
I trust this helps."
What should I do? Should I persue the issue or do one of the above?
Thanks
Richard
So basically....THEY DIDN'T READ MY EMAIL.
So it was originally branded, you probable had a bit of discount back then.
But the employee that sold it to you probable didn't know it was branded neither. Vodafone used to brand devices with a visible vodafone logo on the outside, and they didn't do that with the HD2.
I also was mislead by it a year ago, but since an vodafone upgrade is available, i don't bother anymore, cause I can install any ROM I like with HSPL2 (except new 3.14 ROMs), and revert with the official vodafone upgrade if needed.
So if you want an original HTC ROM, you have to use HSLP2 or for the latest HTC ROM a GoldCard, cause there's no HSPL for the new 3.14 ROMs (with SPL 3.03.0000 bootloader) (see Artemis Thread).
Turns out I have just installed custom roms. I figured that I might as well void the warranty. I will just revert to the stock if worse comes to worse.

[Q] unlocking for all networks

Posting specifically in the MTATRIX4G forum (probably could have got away with the general forum)...
Looking to unlock my Motorola Atrix 4G to work on all networks. Couldn't find a guide....
There are guides everywhere. It seems you fail at basic searching.
Call AT&T and ask for code, or buy the code online.
Why would I call AT&T? Not everyone in the world lives in United States of....Something (to be blunt my carrier is Orange in UK, look it up on a map - unless AT&T are so generous that they would accept my IMEI, even though i'm not with AT&T?? That would be generous of them)
Let me rephrase - plenty of people selling unlock codes and plenty of dodgy software where you need to fill out some weird survery (never going to do that as it's always a con).
So point taken, let's rephrase again - Can someone help me find open source software to unlock the Motorola Atrix 4G?
Atrix 4G is only available on AT&T. Elsewhere in the world it is called Atrix, not Atrix 4G. Since you keep mentioning Atrix 4G, I naturally assumed you're on AT&T. No need to get rude, next time try being more precise instead.
In that case, you'll have to buy the code online. A way to unlock "at home" does not exist. I have no recommendations for a good unlocking site, wait for someone else to chime in.
Good point, will take it onboard. I had suspected buying an unlock code (which I don't mind per say as it's going on ebay anyway and adds to the value). Unless someone else has a plausable trusthworth site i'll bid thee farewell.

Get unlock multiple try
It also depend on the Radio.
I have the ATT unclock code for my phone but everytime I try it show unsuccessful. I have to flash my back to original ATT radio and try and now my network it unlocked. It depend your service provider, just fash the correct radio and get the code online should working fine.

What I meant was, i sold my old HTC Touch HD and got an additional 20% on the price as opposed to locked to Orange. People just prefer an unlocked device to buy. Simples really.

Yup, plenty of choices online, range from 8 quid to 20, i'll just use the one I used last time (althought this time I got greedy and looked for a free option )
Weird ATT provide it for free, Orange in the UK charge a flat rate of about 23 quid (and only if you're in contract with them)

Another thing to keep in mind is that some of us could not unlock with any AT&T radio at all. On my phone, I had to flash the Bell Canada radio before AT&T's unlock code would work. Of course, I flashed back to AT&T's radios and the phone remained unlocked. Just something to keep in mind.

[Q] Bounty - HSPL for TITAN II

I have read a lot of threads while searching for a way to fully unlock my Titan II as a lot of people are trying to use their unlocked phones on other carriers. I too am one of those people and would like to officially start a bounty thread for the Titan II.
I know that DFT was the one who created it for the legendary HD2 which I am a proud owner of.
I would like to post a $50 bounty via paypal to the one who cracks the Titan II and adds the database for the HTC Connection Setup. I don't know if it can be ported over from the HD2, but it doesn't seem like it wouldn't be possible. Either that or any other way to unlock the apn settings for mms provisioning.
Please join me in my quest to fully unlocking this AMAZING device and proving that we don't need to be tied down by the chains of tyranny due to oversights by manufacturers, providers and software manufactures because WE THE PEOPLE are capable of standing on our own,
Who's With ME????
Thanks for getting the ball rolling. Some reason I feel like there are a good amount of people out there with HTC titan 2's (myself included), but there's no dev support for it really.
Many have said that it should be quite easy since other than the camera and addition of LTE, it's essentially very similar. But who knows, I'm not a developer,

I understand your frustration; I really, really do but think about this; name me one Windows Phone that has followed the HTC Titan (Eternity) that has been successfully HSPL'd? Answer - None! There will never be another device manufactured like the HD2 and I fail to see the logic behind locking these devices down so tight there is no joy in owning a device which you're at the mercy of the WP Marketplace. All that said, development is dead for Windows Phone 7.x and like it or not while Windows Phone 8.x isn't perfect it is slowly grabbing traction with market share now at 5.6% and as of April has risen faster than Android. I have waffled back and forth as to try and sell my HSPL'd Titans while I can still get some value out of them or wait it out until Windows Phone 9 is released or abandon Windows Phone altogether. I bought my wife the HTC One (M7) and I guess I got lucky because it is one sweet piece of hardware and I bought the developer's edition and to help my wife learn the device I loaded Launcher 8 to give her the same start menu she was familiar with on the Titan. For the moment I'm eyeballing the Lumia 925 if it in fact pans out it's pentaband.

I'm not familiar with that app but there is an alternative now for AT&T compatible radios, but you will need Nokia's Network Setup to make the manual edits. We had a solution in the past but discovered using Consumer Cellular gave us MMS but did not give us the ability to use cellular data completely unrestricted. You can uninstall HTC Connection Setup if you opt this route. Carortruck, it is doubtful there will be any further development of the Windows Phone 7.x platform with the exception of an update to 7.9. It is unclear what this update will entail though many who have responded to Microsoft asking for Bluetooth and Skype to run in background. There are quite a number of 3rd party apps that will run APIs of branded apps, my personal favorites are MetroTalk and MetroRadio and of course, Skype.

I have tried to find a way to install nokia's connection setup but am unable to figure out how to spoof the marketplace to let me download it. On my hd2, I also used consumer cellular and know that trick, but the htc connection setup on the titan 2 only has at&t in the database. I was thinking of developer unlock to sideload a registry editor or load an xml file that would have the settings in it, but it seems like there is an easier way.
I have switched back to my gs2 even though I LOVE the way the windows phone feels. It's so stable and smooth, but I am at a crossroads here. I can live without tethering and want not.
As far as api's, I use graffiti radio for my Pandora. I really just want my mms unlocked.

I want you to open the APN settings inside your settings...and simply add "att.mvno" on the APN line....everything else is blank! Continue to use Consumer Cellular. The downside is these settings will disable mobile data to Bing and Map Search. Registry Editor won't help you here. Being that you have the Titan II it is not possible to install the Nokia Network Setup app which the HTC Connection Setup is not required but HTCCS will work as long as you configure your settings properly.

The HTC Titan I (Eternity - PI39100) was the last of any of the Windows Phone 7.x devices to be developer-interop unlocked and even during their development the bootloaders changed making near the end of production many of these devices unable to be unlocked other than subsidy (carrier) unlocked. I'm torn between staying with WP8 and buying the Lumia 1520 or going over to the dark side and buying the HTC One M7 or M8 so I remain with my devices for the time being realizing they're likely to become worthless before I once and for all sell them. I continue to own a HD2 that I stuck a 64 gig card in running NativeSD; we'll never see another device like that one, what a shame.
