Hey All:
I was on the pdaPhone Home forum
( http://pdaphonehome.com/forums ) and I found this reply to a post I had made about the SD slot. It sounds like a challenge to the XDA developers to me! If anyone can do anything, it is you guys!!!
Here it is:
[The SD slot is]
more than you think it is. [I am]
new to this board, but I can tell you two things I know for certain.
One, the SD slot is not SD/IO directly, however.....
Viewtake does offer a camera than plugs into the SD slot of these phones and works very well. Takes decent pictures, with several options of picture size and type, will take 8fps video, and comes with a nice software suite. I know because I have one. Anyone who would like pics of or from it just need to ask.
Two, I happen to be a security systems installer (actual Security systems, not software or computer based) and one of the places I installed a system, I happen to get the chance to speak with someone who is part of the top eschelon of the windows mobile solutions development team. This person seemed to enjoy chatting with me about the OS and the products. In talking about the PPC PE I was told that, although nothing could be confirmed (non-disclosure agreements), that I would be VERY surprised what the SD slot on the PPC PE was capable of. I do believe that more can be done with it than is thought. Has ANYONE actually tried the install of any SD/IO devices like a Bluetooth or 802.11b SD Card?
if i were you i'd try to do a search on the subject
and you'll get plenty of useful posts
also there are many posts about cams which works for xda in the Accessories forum
of cause it's possible to make many many things which today needs sdio using just a normal sd connector
a sd connector works for ram
if a sd card have some flash apart from the stuff which take care of it's function
and both the device and the sd's non mem part have access to that mem
they can communicate writing in some files in the mem part of the sdcard
but since pretty much all new devices today come with SD IO
i doubt there is a big market for those devices which is also more complex to make then a normal SDIO which is a descriped std
we have seen bluetooth headsets which works for xda
but it's a bit of a cheat since it goes into the headset connector
and just make the analog signal bluetooth to the headset
this mean you cant use anything else then the headset
pretty much everything is possible but when there is lots of work involved and not a pile of coins in the end people dont really line up to get involved
Easily done withour SD/IO
A camera for xda could easily be developed without requiring anything special from the SD slot.
If the camera were fully self contained with the ability to write to flash mem that is also addressible from the device as a standard SD card would be... all the camera is doing is saving to sd, and the xda is reading from sd the files that the camera saved.
Pretty simple... the tricks are on the camera, not the xda.
Josh
I´ve it !
Hello,
all the story´s about a Com for a XDA / MDA & Siemens SX56 are true !
I must know it, because i sell the Cam´s

In last weeks i worked to unlok my wallaby, when i wrote xda-developers cooked version i discovered that test menu (when tou make a warm and/or cold reset) didn't work anymore. I 've been reading in this and other forums looking for solution in my hard purpose to use again my xda wallaby.
I used SD card method unsuccesfully. I can´t initialize OS and only i got it's a T-Mobile logo and starting these numbers:
G324e4
R6.25.02
4.01.16
i got anymore else... people say to me that using a serial cable and mtty11a.exe i would get some results but i'm building a serial cable because here in mexico, support and to buy international is not a good and cheap option.
Somebody tell me that i need a byteblaster cable to fix but it is a little bit confuse (too much!!!) for me.
I hope anybody help me please. I 've been reading a lot but or a'm a real idiot or this problem is in XDA play off's.
I think a lot of people have or had this kind of trouble and i think would be great build a solid tutorial to fix these structural problems inthe way to make less difficult its fix.
Thanks a lot....
excuse my bad english it is not my native language.
I've been looking at getting a bluetooth GPS receiver for my Wizard for a while now, but I haven't been able to find anything that I really want to buy. I know there are several other topics on GPS in the forum, but all the solutions suggested seem to be American websites (or at least all priced in dollars) and being from the UK this isn't much help. I've stumbled across a receiver/software bundle on a site, and it's very cheap, but I'm not sure if it will be any good or even if I can use it with my wizard as the card provided is SD. Is it possible to copy the files to the miniSD in the Wizard and still work?
The link is here, and if someone could take a look and let me know if they think it is ok, or if someone's tried it, please let me know!
Thanks,
Myk
P.S. I don't want to know if this receiver/software is any good compared to £300 systems or even what the best GPS combo is, because I'm not interested in spending that kind of money yet. I just wanna know if this will work fairly reliably so I can get a cheap GPS set-up to test how useful I find it before I spend loads on one
I just bought my first GPS unit and it is and it was under a hundred dollars US.....and I feel that it is acurate as can be.....so from what i've read about that unit it seems it will be just fine for you t use for quite awhile....Plus you will be able to use it with any new phone you get...
Software activation...
Ok, so I bought the receiver I mentioned. Since the software comes on an SD card, and the wizard only takes miniSD cards, I copied everything across and the program installed fine. But then when I try to run it, it asks me to insert the original SD card to activate the software.
Does anyone know of a workaround for this? I can use some other software (possibly) with the receiver if I can't get it to work, but it's not as good as the Navman software seems to be.
With WM6, I had matched my bluetooth earphone with prophet, then I can see the BT headphone symbol on dialing menu. However, if I reboot Prophet, the connection will lost, when I making a call, it won't auto connect to my BT earphone(the WM5 rom did),I have to open setting->connect>BT rematch it to use my earphone.
The problem also happens if,
1.First build connection between phone and BT earphone.
2.Take away the phone only(far enough to let them unable to communicate)
3.Take back the phone and make a call. The BT connection won't re-connect untill you re-matching it.
It makes me very inconvience, thanks a lot if someone can help me to fix it.
Thank you!
I have the very same problem in all of PDAViet's roms. After soft reset the bluetooth partnership setting is gone (although the symbol of the paired device is still there..) I have asked for a fix several times but no one seems to care.. Very strange that only a few people seem to make regular use of their bluetooth headset....

Why do you complain so unsympatically? Remember that you flashed your device yourself. Nobody forced you, nobody let you pay for the software. You downloaded all by yourself a file that a smart person somewhere in Vietnam or Thailand or Russia or where ever, has put together becourse his hobby is to fool around with his PDA. That same person was so friendly to let the whole world join in on his party.
But don't complain when that person don't like to spend his time on your problems, for as far we know his doesn't have a BT headset at all and isn't interested in that functionality. It will become a whole different piece of meat when you had purchased the ROM, but you haven't....... did you....?
Cool...
rondol1 - I like your thinking, my sentiments exactly.
is there anyone can help?
Same sproblem with other bluetooth devices
I think it is not just a BT headset problem but a BT stack problem. I'm using a BT GPS and I had to re-pair GPS and Prophet each time I use (althoughit seems like it is already paired)
It is irrelevant maybe but similar problem exist on e-mails. I create an account for my email provider, download e-mails, but after a reset it looks like my e-mail setting are gone (have to re-configure it) But even when it seems settings are gone I can see it on my today plugin that I have such number of e-mails ( I can get to see them)

I did NOT "complain" about the problem not being fixed so far, but about the missing reaction of some of this community when I posted the question about the status of this problem on new ROMs several times (which this forum should be there for) and there was just no answer at all. Because I do not want to flash my device with every new "release" only to find out that the problem is still there. I am indeed aware of the fact that not everyone is using BT functionality and that a new OS manually adapted to an "older" device is something that cannot be free of issues from the beginning.
Any change on this behaviour with the new PDAViet ROM 4.0.0.0.6 Touch? Anyone tried?
Same problem
Thanks for All and for every thing they did to make prophet for WM6 but this bluetooth problem is really killing me also every time i am using my car bluetooth i have to pair
Same problem in all rom's
Have tried almost all rom's, same problem.
The problem seems not to be releated to the diffrent BT stacks. Have tried different. Also it is not related to the BT devices. Have used Handfree. Stereo headset. GPS unit. Serial ports on remote PC etc. All have the same problem. Works when paired. Then after a soft reset unit are still in the BT list. But they have all have to be re paired to work.
Surely have something to do, with the units loosing most, or some of the settings after reset. Its an anoying problem, which we all will have to look into.
All the new rom's are nice to have, and to play with. But if we wants the rom's to be good for regular and daily use. We sure needs to fix this problem.
I will start to do my own little investigation, trying to fix the problem.
The problem is the same in all rom's. So if its solved in one rom, I'm pretty sure its solved in all roms. (99% sure , I think)

I know why this is but so far I havn't figured out how to solve it.... the problem is that settings are stored in the ram and not the rom... the way we need to get it to work is have the regestry moved to the extrom and that way it can be writen to directly without having to keep the regestry in the ram..... this can be done but I havn't fully understood how this is don't because I've been trying so hard to figur uot the X button problem... but I'm reading up on how to do that

Thats correct. Seeting in RAM are lost, and there by Bluetooth pairing, email settings etc. Now knowing what causes the problem, some one clever, sure will some up with a solution. Will try to se if I can contribute with anything.

Strange thing is, I've tried a few WM6 ROM, but never had any problems with lost emailsettings. I use it a lot, and just as everybody, I have to do a soft reset, once in a while...
So, the RAM storage as you describe isn't lost in all cases but also written to ROM.
As for BT I only use my gps-receiver and even that one only now and then It seems t work fine, but to be honest most of the time I've flashed my Prophet between several times....
I've the same problem with BT : always working with BT GPS, always loosing my BT Headset (try with 3 differents Headsets ...).
Be with devellop's team for correct this probem, and not with guy who critic this post without an BT Headset .... This is a forum and the critic is here to help the building of a 'very good' and more stabe as possible WM6 Rom ...
All together for the future ....

try change your battery or just pull out your battery overnight, i'm sure you will experience this problem. Sometimes on my phone when battery goes below 50% if I reset will loose setting sometimes. Just annoying but i can live with it.
The only way to keep your bluetooth, wifi and email settings all the time without worries is to use WM5.
If someone wants to try the bug, just soft-reset the phone while connected to the PC via activesync.
I guess that you will lose your settings (i'm not 100% sure because I'm now using WM5).
okeee.....
That are things I didn't try indeed. But at the other hand, what hould I want to do all that?
Tried the battery-change right away. Everything is still in order, no settings missing, time and date still as it should, email working as it allways did.
I did shut down my device first though.

You might be one of the lucky ones then. I believe majority of us looses settings at various times. what model specs are your device do you have anyway? is it new when u purchased? the reason i asked cuz somewhere i read there is a "button cell battery" might be a wizard thing not prophet devices.

I did buy my S200 new, without any branded OS, that means straight from Qtek. It's a G4, other specs Im willing to tell when you can precise what you want to know.
But... I don't want to be arrogant... when I read the many bug-reports I get the feeling that a majority don't use their device as it is supposed to. If you imagine that it is a small device with very limited hardware specs, it's not hard to understand that it isn't as foolprove as your desktop computer...
But again, it's just a feeling I get by reading many post, I also know that some of you have serious issues that cannot be explained from maluse point of view.
Greetings all,
Just off of the success of fixing the frustration of the broken audio adapter after upgrading to a new ROM problem, I think that a new and even more valeuable project is at hand: UnBricking these that are really bricked.
Ok, here is my thought and experience in as short a summery as I can give. Almost ALL consumber products these days evolved from general purpose processors with outboard EPROM or EEPROM, RAM, and peripheral components. As the devices develope, custom chipsets come into play to reduce size, component count, weight, power consumption, cost, etc, while upping the reliability, battery life, features, speed, and just the joy factor of these things. Look at them as they get better and better, just the transition from 6th gen 6700 to the 7th gen 6800 how much better it works. This goes for everything from the PDA/Smartphones, to the refrigerator, to satellite receivers, everything. A problem was that as more stuff gets crammed onto a smaller number of chips, they needed a way to initially configure these things so they would not come out as dumb boxes. Enter the JTAG interface. For those who do not know the acronym, look it up, but basically it is a standard interface and protocol to communicate with dedicated microprocessors and program them, without having to exactly speak the language of each model and brand. When you get a device off the production line at the end it goes to a workstation that has a JTAG interface jig and a PC configured to load the initial stuff, like the bootloader and basic stuff needed to make it what it is. I have been working with stuff for many years now and have JTAGGed satellite receivers, cell phones, air cards, cars, yes even cars use it, and a standard set of software talks to it all. The only difference is the connector or jig that is used and the BIN file you load. This is usually createable from the bootloader file that we usually load up to the USB port with the RUU, but without a bootloader in it already we can not do anything with it, so we need to JTAG like OLIPRO2.40 straight to the memory address range it needs to go to. JTAG software will, thru the interface, establish communication with, communicate, identify, and program the flash directly, heck you can put the entire ROM on it if you want. I do this all the time with other devices, so I know it is possible.
If you have a 6800 that is bricked thru software error and NOT broken by any crazy stuff done to it afterwards, then JTAGging WILL fix it. I propose to start the JTAG project for the 6800 series HTC devices, as I see an ever increasing number of these getting bricked it needs to be done. The ONLY way one should be touched inside is if it is known to be bricked by software error that you can not get back out of and thats all that is wrong with it, and very important that there is no possibility of returning it to your carrier under warranty for repair. HTC would do exactly what I propose and send it back fixed but probably charge a bunch. I have not killed mine, and do not intend to do so just for this project, but if anyone has one that is just a paperweight and meets the above criteria and has nothing to loose and plenty of time (cause my paying job takes priority) I would be happy to take this on and find, probe, and JTAG your device, fix it and provide before, during, and afterwards logging of what is done. I would then prepare a package of instructions and software on how everyone else can do it as well.
Anyone got a really dead one that they would care to try ???????
I hope I'm not on the list. I haven't seen JTAG since I went to the DD-WRT forums.
Sounds like a great project for those in need.
Mmm, JTAG... DD-WRT and old CNC machines..
I'm curious about this, how do you interface with the phone for JTAG? I just skimmed the article [dont have my glasses] but would love to know.
JTAG fixed my Hermes
JTAG does work - it brought my bricked hermes back to life!

You have to find the 4 or 5 connection points needed and determine memory layout. The problem with his idea here is the cpu in the 6800 is SPECIAL. No public datasheets, and it's proprietary as heck. Good luck finding the jtag points for the kaiser or 6800 or any msm7000 series device using the msm as the cpu.

I was thinking the same thing, there's not much on this chip out there... I have JTAG stuff for old school EPROMs and such, even got a cable for Linksys routers... I would worry about digging into my phone though. I know with Sprint you can add insurance at anytime, but you must wait 30 days to make a first claim... I got some old Treo 600s for Sprint I could donate to someone needing a phone as a temp.

JTAG points are usually together in a pattern and not scattered, and JTAG prober software is wonderful for getting the pinout by analyzing the signals it sees, JKEYS is good as is QXDM (Qualcomm Extensible Diagnostic Monitor) is what I used for doing the same thing with a Sierra Wireless 580 card that uses the MSM5500. The card was corrupted during a flash update and I was able to JTAG and get it back and use it as a test card to this day. QXDM even can unlock the protected memory and change things you are not allowed to change (ESN), it is pretty much all powerfull as far as the Qualcomm chips go. By the way, before Nortel I worked for Qualcomm and still have access so I was reeeeeeeal happy to see HTC start useing this chipset ;-)
You go ahead and try then, let us know if you succeed.
Will do when,,,,,,

Thanks, I went there and asked him to come here and have a look. I am thinking that he does have a possible candidate, but just for grins I just pulled my battery and plugged in my wall pack and right away get the red light, but with my laptop I do get his 'data device' and red light so I am open to the possibility that there might be a fusible link bad in his if it is not a software problem. Either way, if it is useless to him I will be happy to look at it.

That would be a bummer as you could not drive to get the fix. I started by writing code for the TMS7000 processors in the old VC2, then my Acura in 1988, but then they stopped useing PROMS and went to JTAG, really got me going.
No takers so far, and mine still works
Well nobody has come forward with a victim,,,,,hmmmmm,,,,uuuuhhhhh,,,,,unit to try ;-) and mine works still so we wait.
madman34, one one unit we have so far that has died did not entirely die. It would appear if the spl gets wiped out on a msm7xxx series device using comm core as cpu it has a failsafe mode if the oemsbl/qcsbl are still present. The device goes into download mode on boot and sits there.
Since you stated you worked for qualcomm, can you shed any light on this and how we might possibly be able to write nand from download mode? Or get back to debug mode instead?
