funny activ sync issue - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

wanted to make my xda sync with my laptop which have an IR connector
i can beam files just file between them but
when i install and try out activesync it looks for the device
and dont seem to find any
read in the help that i need to go into settings in activesync and make the IR a com port but i cant get into the settings before it gotten a parternership with a pocket device
kinda odd really guess i have to creatve the parternership using usb before i can sync using IR
or is it just me who is soft in the head ?

Since you're transfering files, you're obviously doing the basics right, so it's not an IR port problem or OS settings on the PC.
Are you initiating the synch from the XDA? Unlike USB where things just start by themselves when you put the XDA in the cradle, you have to initiate the IR connection FROM the XDA. First, open Active Synch manually on the XDA by selecting it in the menu or from "Programs." (If you do IR synchs frequently, you'll definitely want to create a shortcut by using tdLaunch or putting ActiveSynch in the Start Menu). Then you put the XDA in range, just like transfering files. Once the laptop rcognizes the XDA, then, on the XDA's ActiveSynch screen, select Tools->Connect via IR.
If you're already doing this, then there's another problem and this is no help--sorry!

XDA ON A NON WIRELESS LAN

Can I configure the XDA to connect to my office LAN using the USB connection !?!!?!??!
or is the device only capable of connecting over a wireless connection
which adapter is appropriate???
once connected, can the LAN internet connection be used by the XDA?
cheers
Jon
Absolutely. You set up 'desktop passthrough' in activesync (on the desktop). This will give you access to the LAN and internet.
ok- I have done that - and selected the "work" settings (on the desktop) do I need to configure anything on the device... if so - what?!?!
cheers
appreciate your help
No, as soo as the device connects to active sync, all the configuration is done. You should then be able to use pocket IE etc.
I can't remember exactly, but you may need to configure it as 'Internet' if you want to browse with Pocket IE etc.
Regards
Martin
cool - seems to working a treat!!!!!
cheers
disks to exlpore
can you use the screen of the xda to explore the network drives?
I may be doing something wrong. So a quick 1,2,3 would be helpful..

Unfortunately not. You need to know the path of the share you want to connect to. (ie \\Servername\sharename). You can then connect to this from file explorer

Some questions for WM6/WMDC Techies....

First off, I have been having a plethora of problems with Windows Vista, and I might start out by asking if anyone else is having sync problems with Vista.... ever since I upgraded to SP1 RC1 I have been unable to sync.... and then I reverted back the non-sp1 and still can't sync... Everytime I try it installs as Microsoft USB Sync in Device Manager (when advanced network functionality is unchecked) and the Windows Mobile Remote Adapter #3 in Device Manager (when advanced network functionality is checked). No matter what I do, Windows Mobile Device Center will NOT open. I'll connect the phone, and it always just acts as a charger, never any data exchange of any sort. I have gone through all the troubleshooting I can find online, and still have no luck.
Assuming nobody can shed some light as to why Windows Vista sucks, I have another option. I made a backup of everything using SPB Backup of my previous ROM (Stock Sprint) and now I'm on DCD's newest release. It works great, I just want to know how I can get ONLY my contacts and calendar off the backup file. I am able to access the file tree when going into the advanced option. So, what is the file that contains all of the contacts (I assume some sort of xml file or something) and calendar files.
Anyone help would be HIGHLY appreciated.
Thanks!
pim in the main dir of the phone is the file with contacts and recent calls you will have to use total commander or another file manager as the reg file explorer won't overwrite it. and as far as the not connecting on the phone go into settings then connections and on usb to pc try disabling the advanced options that should do the trick.
I have already tried enabling / disabling the advanced functionality in USB to PC.... it still doesn't work....

I had the same issues as you until I was on the road and connected directly with my cable instead of my USB hub. From some reason Vista + USB hub (Belkin) + my 6800 didin't get along. Once I connect directly with the cable, all is well.
You my friend are a star! I've had a touch cruise for a year and no problems at all. Then yesterday I got a Touch HD and it would connect once, then refuse until either/or both HD and PC were rebooted. Took the hub out of the equation and bingo!!!

USB Port Broken: Options for Syncing

O2 XDA Atom
My USB Port is broken. It was soldered but has broken again, and this time I think for good. I bought a high capacity battery (2 days only) and charger that charges the battery separately and I am forced to swap out the battery whenever it is dead.
I was able to flash successfully via SD Card to the PDAViet WM6.1 20273 ROM (removed the header, renamed nb0 and the extended image file only - but this did not fix the camera that crashes every time it is launched, the led test in diagnostics also fails).
Is there a way to flash the camera module as well from SD Card?
Now I want to sync the phone.
I have triend syncing over Infra-red and Bluetooth with no success. All the tutorials speak of syncing first via USB then the bluetooth option will work, but I can not do that.
Is there a hack/registry edit to allow the phone to sync over bluetooth without syncing over USB first?
I am looking also for a combination of apps that I can install via CAB that will allow me to transfer contacts AND install applications without ActiveSync for programmes that require ActiveSync. I prefer to get ActivSync over BT working though.
Thank you in advance for your suggestions
BT Syncing without USB
I got the BT syncing without first syncing over USB (on Vista only so far)
I followed this http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/06/05/how-to-sync-via-bluetooth-with-wmdc-in-windows-vista/ with a couple restarts and it works!
Next to get the camera working...
syncing bt via activesync is a sinch, piece-a-piss!
Use MS bt stack
PC...go-to COM Ports (bluetooth ooptions) add incoming port and remember it, now open Activesync 'Connection Settings' and select the same Port from the drop down box.
PPC... open BT settings and pair with PC, upon hitting 'refresh' you will see Activesync animation on PC Taskbar, dont forget to add outgoing COM Port (6) in PPC.

I realised before that the registry edit was not neccessary because WMDC 6.1 in Vista had the option to choose the BT serial port of your BT device in a drop down list. Actually I did not have to create an outgoing COM Port on the PPC to get it to work.

Touch Pro/Mobile Device Center Connection Problems

I have an issue with my VZW Touch Pro not being recognized by MDC and have torn out what little hair I had left trying to solve it. I know there are numerous threads of this type and I've read every one I can find but my situation is a bit different (aren't they all ).
Basically, when I hook up the TP via USB to my Vista machine MDC doesn't come up. If I launch it manually it comes up, sometimes flashes the "Connecting" message very briefly then goes to "Not Connected" and sits. OK. So why am I baffled and what have I done? Well....
1. If I set the TP to connect as a "Disk Drive" (as opposed to ActiveSync) Vista recognizes it and asks me if I want to explore files and folders, I can see the storage card;
2. In PC to USB I've tried both WITH Advanced Device Configuration enabled and not enabled;
3. I've installed Activesync on another (XP) machine to see if the TP will connect to it and get the same behavior;
4. I've removed the Remote Adapter and USB Synch in Device manager (following the standard MS troubleshooting guide) so that Vista installs the USB driver, just to make sure;
5. I INITIALLY installed MDC on this machine when I was trying an HTC Fuze. At that time MDC worked fine, recognizing the Fuze and asking me what I want to sync, etc.;
6. Since that time I've uninstalled and reinstalled MDC (several times) JUST IN CASE, although it shows NO existing partnerships;
7. I've turned off and actually removed the firewall even though, as I said, MDC worked fine before.
8. On the TP I've set ActiveSync (I'm hooking to an Exchange Server) to sync "Manually" and Windows Live to sync "Manually", JUST IN CASE that was the problem.
The only reason I really even NEED MDC is that I want to use eWallet and need to sync between the PC and Touch Pro.
I've used the TP as a modem for my laptop via Modem Link successfully, but while ML is set to USB the service is Stopped. Would THAT have any affect on this: one thing I've noticed is that when I plug the TP in the PC (sometimes) displays a message to the effect that it's trying to connect to a wireless LAN?????
Sorry for the length of this message but I figure the more info the better and this really has me stumped.
Thanks for any ideas.
if this helps yo in any way here it is.
i tryed to hook up my TP via WMDC on a Toshiba Tecra Laptop, with USB or Bluetooth and in the best case i managed to send files via bluetooth ... and the WMDC does not recognize the device, it installs some drivers for the cable (i think) and does not find any for the device, so ... it does the same thing as for you, tryes to connect for a second and after that it goes on a endless brake ... never connecting
on the other hand, i had no problems with a dell inspiron, with wista, it installed the drivers instantly and got connected immediately. the same with a Win XP dektop PC using activesync ...
i`m beggining to believe that the software is sort of defective on the toshiba. now i just send file from it and us the dell to sync my TP. i gave up on connecting the toshiba.
Pretty sure you have already tried this...but different USB cord maybe?

Thank you!! Solved my problem.
This seems to happen a lot... I just replied to another post in regards to this (though they replaced their Touch Pro). Instead of disabled advanced network functionality (which does let you sync), you should try this to repair the error as it has worked on a friend's Pro, as well as mine (I just had to do it 40 minutes ago). And make sure you re-enable advanced network functionality BEFORE doing this:
1 - Hook up phone to computer
2 - On phone, start ICS (Internet Sharing in Start -> Programs)
3 - Select PC Connection "USB" and Network Connection of any type (if Sprint stock ROM, I recommend using "Sprint")
4 - Hit the "Connect" soft-key (bottom left)
If you've never used Internet Sharing on the phone, your computer should install some drivers... Once that is completed, click the Disconnect left soft-key on the phone. Now disconnect the cable from the computer.
Close out ICS or soft-reset the phone.
Once the phone is back up, plug it in - it should work.
I don't know what is getting reset in the phone, but unless I connect with ICS, then ActiveSync will not connect whether I soft-reset or not.

app to sync specific folders between android and pc via usb

I don't have time for wireless and my only wifi is my hotspot from my phone, so I suppose if there is a wifi phone to pc app that can use the phone as the wifi that could work, but I'd prefer the fastest usb method. I had it a little while back with the cheetah sync app but they stopped supporting it and I didn't get to install it on my new phone, so...
Anyone know what app if any can do this?? It's so far been proving not easy to find if at all. I guess no one is syncing via usb. Any ideas?
Not sure if synchronize ultimate can sync via usb but you could try.
Tasker should be able to do that as well, although this might be tricky to 'build'.
